Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite princess stories, especially of the OG titles, but this...I'm not sure why I read this. I get the feeling it's meant to be stripped of anything "bad" (the beasts temper, the fighting, etc)/extra "E for everyone-ified" but it was stripped *too much*. This had no feeling whatsoever and the story was choppy

This comic have beautiful artwork, but the story was cut short even though it’s meant for a younger audience.

Beautiful artwork, but the story was cut down too much, even for little kids. Some parts were very rushed over and didn't make much sense. But I loved that Beauty and her family were POC, and again, the art was just gorgeous.

This is one of several comics I requested early on my time here at NetGalley, and because of that, I picked several books that were really not for me. This is one of those books, hence my waiting so long to read and review it. The story just didn't impress me. I love a good retelling, but this felt shallow. Even the art, while Disneyesk, felt subpar. There was just not much to love it. It feels like a book made to be an easy sale with its well known premise. All that said though, I'm not really the target audience. Even for kids though, I don't see what's so special here. To paraphrase Carl Sagan, lifes short and we can only read so many books. If I was buying a kid a book, it wouldn't be this one.

The ending felt very rushed. There was a conflict introduced that got resolved within two pages. I do love the aspect of the rose and what it means to the Beast. I would’ve liked to see their relationship blossom a bit more.

This graphic novel was a great adaptation to the original Beauty and the Beast story and I really enjoyed it. The colors were vibrant and the illustrations were really well done.

The art of this graphic novel was fabulous and beautiful. I loved the details, the expression, the feeling. The story, however, was too short and stilted to bring much of anything new to the book as a whole.

This was a fun version of the story Beauty and Beast. A perfect introduction to the story for younger readers and a perfect introduction to graphic novels for those who haven't really read them before. The layout was easy to follow and pictures engaging.

This was one of my favorite fairy tales growing up, so I was very excited to read this adaptation. I was not disappointed when I was able to read it. The art style is gorgeous and it breathed new life into a story that has stood the test of time.

4 stars
a fun quick read. Great art style and fun play on the classic story.

It was a really fun read and very quick to get through. Love the idea of retelling classics in this format for kids.

This was okay, I know that the targeted audience are children but still, the story line felt really rushed for no apparent reason. Nothing to say about the artwork because it was really pretty and cute, but the way the story was handled wasn't really good. I was expecting a little bit more since the main idea is to introduce little kids to the story of Beauty and the Beast.

I really like this new take on Beauty and the Beast. It's a great middle-grade novel to add some diversity to the children's repertoire.

I can’t accurately rate this book because it is for 5-7 year olds. It is a simplified version of the classic fairy tail that is perfect for young children. The illustrations are gorgeous and I love the colors used to depict the characters and the world. I only wish it had been longer.

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney tale and I loved that this middle grade graphic novel took elements of Cinderella and combined it with the main tale of Beauty and the Beast. The graphics were stunning and the Beast was my favorite, as he always is. By this time, I think we all know the story of Beauty and the Beast. Beauty travels to Beast's castle to free her father and falls in love with the beast breaking the spell. The Cinderella portion was that Beauty was one of 3 sisters, Beauty being the nicest. That part made up such a small portion of the overall book, there was some room to expand. I was a little surprised at how short this graph novel was, it cause the pacing to be off and some of the character interactions were a bit awkward. Beauty spent a glorious day with the Beast, returned home, then went back to the Beast and got married. It just all happened really quick.

I just really did not like this one. Overall it was boring and the art style wasn't my favorite either. There are other graphic novels that feature the Beauty and the Beast story that are done better.

This book is a very simple and straightforward retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I don't think it's meant to be an amazing and captivating read, but more so a book that teaches children how to read a story and think more critically and creatively about it. There's a small summary of how to read a comic, which makes this a great graphic novel for beginners. At first I didn't love the story, but then I read the writing prompts and discussion questions at the end and they made me see that the story is simple for a reason. It provides a great baseline to teach children how to learn from a story and be imaginative.

Beauty and the Beast is a retelling of the classic fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast with an added element of a Cinderella feel to it. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this graphic novel. The storyline was incredibly fast, and probably a bit too fast paced as it felt like the story of Beauty and the Beast was summed up as fast as possible, and was missing large chunks of the story out as well. I did enjoy that Beauty was a person of colour, which I think is incredibly important to have this representation in children's books. It is suitable to the target audience, but the story line and text was lacking.

However, the art and illustrations were absolutely phenomenal. I couldn't get over how colourful and beautiful they were. I think I'll definitely be trying to find more illustrations by Thais Damiao in the future.

I did enjoy the fact that the novel had a list of characters, introducing them to the young reader. I also liked the fact that it had an introduction in how to read a graphic novel, if you were new to this style of book.

Thank you very much to Capstone and Picture Window Books for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This is just another version of Beauty and the beast with a colored beauty, otherwise nothing new or interesting. It's short and cute for a younger audience. Nothing to write home about though.
