This is a graphic short story on Beauty and The Beast, a REALLY short read! Only 34 pages. I loved the illustrations! Thais Damiaõ did a wonderful job on the graphics. I loved Belle. But it was too short. I realize that it's a children's book and hence she cut out a lot of harsher detailings but I do feel that it needed more depth in it. Don't get me wrong, it has great potential and the author's written is easy breezy. But I felt she didn't necessarily put that in it. If only she had added more detailing and depth, I would have rated full 5 stars.
Thank you, NetGalley and Capstone, for a complimentary copy of this graphic novel!
I give this one 3.5/5 stars rounded up to 4.
What do I like about the book?
The illustrations are lovely, the text is easy to understand, the discussion questions at the end of the story, and the arts and crafts idea in the back of the book.
If I had to recommend this book to someone, it would be someone who reads aloud to kids and discusses the meaning of the books. Why is that? Because this graphic novel is very simplified. It would be great for beginning assisted readers with the person reading to the kids adding to the story and explaining the message. This book makes a great quick book to read before bedtime.
This graphic novel shows story of beast and beauty in a cute manner.
Each character including beast is cute.
They are united in unexpected circumstances and beast helps beauty to do her most daily works.
She returns home but can't forget the beast.
It is simple retelling for kids.
Illustrations are excellent and cute.
Vocabulary is simple and illustrations are large and perfect for reading by kids.
Thanks netgalley and publisher for review copy.
Typical beauty and the beast story. Wasn't unique enough to make me want to buy it. The illustrations were ok, but I felt the whole book could have been better.
Thank you to net galley and the publisher for gifting me a copy of this book to review.
I read this as soon as I downloaded it because I was in a fairytale mood. It was a quick and short read with wonderful artwork. The artwork is truly beautiful and I think it can be appreciated by anyone.
I think that children will enjoy this book more than I did but I'm not the target audience for this book. I enjoy Beauty and the Beast as a story and I liked how this one added in a Cinderella element. I did like the tale but I think they could have focussed on the relationship more and made it a little longer. The relationship is very insta-love which isn't realistic but again it's a children's fairy tale so I can understand why it was written the way it was. The characters weren't developed much and overall it felt like the story was rushed.
Overall I did like the simplicity of the story and that it was fairytale. I think children will enjoy this one.
Short and cute retelling of the famous fairy tale. Children friendly, but for my taste a bit too short. The illustrations are amazing, but it could have taken one or two more pages to invest into the relationship of Beaty and Beast. Common interests could have been pointed out more obviously. Though it's a great book for children and the colors and characters are pretty awesome!
This was a letdown. I’d assumed the book would be longer than it actually was, and maybe that’s on me. But the characters had no personalities, the mc was an absolute Mary Sue, and even for a kids book this was too insta-lovey. The art style was actually pretty nice, though.

Although I am aware that this is a children's book, I still believe it could have used more character development and a more thought-out plot. Everything happens very quickly. Beauty is sent to the castle because her father tries to steal something, she is afraid of the beast, then she is friends with the beast, she goes home, realizes she loves the beast and goes back to his castle where he has turned human. There is no other development. The only saving grace is that Beauty and her family are depicted as people of color which I thoroughly appreciated.
Fairy tales: beauty and the beast by Jessica Gunderson.
A classic telling of beauty and the beast in glorious colours. Beautifully written. Lovely illustrations. Very well done. 5*.
This was absolutely adorable! I would definitely give this to a child to read or even read it to them.
I loved the illustrations and it was quick and simple.
I wish I could have loved this one, especially due to the diverse characters. I felt the dialogue and story was rushed as well as there was little to no character development due to the fact that the book was so short.
This re-imagining of the classic tale Beauty and the Beast actually saddles our poor Beauty with a pair of mean and narcissistic sisters more fitting for Cinderella. Jealous of Beauty for her sweet nature and innocent beauty, these mean-spirited hussies are more than happy, when Beauty's father is captured by a great beast while trying to get a rose as a gift for her, to have their naive sister trade places with their father and be trapped forever in the Beast's castle. From there the story is a fairly straight up retelling of sorts, but the book's prose is too clipped, reading more like a Reader's Digest condensed version of the classic tale as the book leap-frog's past details and hitting only the main points of the story, before you suddenly find yourself at The End. Thais Damiso's illustrations are nice, breathing some life into both characters and setting, but ultimately the books feels as rushed as the story itself is depicted here, leaving this reader wishing for a more complete (satisfying) reading experience. (Available September 1) 2.5/5 stars
NOTE: I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
This was shorter and les to the story then I imagined. I think the idea was cool and the pictures were beautiful, but I thought it was too short.
This is Beauty and the Beast in a graphic novel form with beautiful illustrations that accompany the story. It is simply written as it is aimed to younger children.
I also liked the DIY at the back of the book.
I really liked what the author did here, the diversity is always welcomed. And how cute was that DIY at the end?!
For those who disliked the book because of its length, you must remember that you're not the target audience for this comic. When we read something made for kids, we have to keep in mind that there will be narrative shortcuts, after all their little kids brain can't exactly capture the nuances in the story, right?! Not to mention that their time span is much smaller than ours.

This isn’t what I was expecting. It’s obviously for children but I still think it’s very over simplified and short. The story only takes place in 22pgs. The art is very cute. Overall I just think the story was rushed and to simple.
The art is very cute and simple to understand for the children this book is attended for or aimed for.. In my opinion this book is a very good way to introduce smaller children to our beloved fairytales.. I give it a 3 star because the book does notgive anything new to the beloved story of beauty and the beast . no new twist and turns. But i would still recommend it for reading aloud for smaller children
This book was a little too fast paced for my liking, but I can definitely see how children will enjoy it. I liked the writing prompts, discussions and how to make a rose at the end. I thought it was a great way to get children into talking more about books and using their creativity in writing and creating. I also liked the fact that the characters were not the classical ones. I liked the idea of a Belle that is African American and that the prince feels more like a troll in its Beast form.
Very short, which made it feel very rushed. But it was a cute, fun read. I very. Ugh enjoyed seeing Belle as an African American.
I loved the illustrations in this Beauty & the Beast graphic novel. The dialog was comprised of very basic, short choppy sentences and transitions were abrupt This would be a good read for an early reader, who benefits from short and simple sentence structures. The deviation from the original tale with the added sisters felt a bit too much like a Cinderella mash up. The rest of the plot was identical to elements of the original. I didn't love this story as much as I wanted to. I think young readers can enjoy deeper quality plots while still keeping the reading level low enough for early readers. A so-so read, but I don't see many adults or younger elementary kids loving this graphic novel as much. Beautiful illustrations though!
