This is a light-hearted version of Beauty and the Beast. I would recommend it for readers age 7 and up. It is a fast read, the illustrations are attractive, and the writing is easy to follow. It's a perfect introduction to graphic novels.
I loved it so much, I would buy it for a child, the drawings are delicate, with Disney style features.
I loved the break in Beauty's physical characteristics.
And in the end I found out that the illustrator is Brazilian, I was super happy for that fact, in addition to being a great inspiration.
I highly recommend it, the reading was fast, fun, and charming.
Received an arc via Netgalley.
This was definitely tailored to beginning and young readers. I feel like it was a very cutesy version of Beauty and the Beast and didn't really hit on the overarching themes that make the story so powerful and what makes it resonate with its readers. This strikes me as a book that a parent could read to a toddler. The art was beautiful.
I'm on the fence about this graphic novel. It's clearly targeted towards children which isn't a problem. Though the dialogue/the writing, in general, is stilted and awkward. Everything is very fast-paced for no apparent reason. The art is well done and cute. For me, this was way too short even for a children's book.
this was very cute and simple. We're all familiar with the Beauty and the Beast storyline so this was pretty good and the pace was nice. The art was good and im sure my daughter will enjoy reading it too.
Thank you to the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This diverse retelling of Beauty and the Beast is perfect for young readers who are just becoming interested in the world of princesses and princes. The is full of a fun cast of characters and shows a high level overview of the story we all know so well. I highly recommend to parents who are looking for princess books to give their children but want to introduce them to a version other than Disney.
I do wish there was a little more to this story, it went by so quickly. I loved the diversity and the art of this book. It also has some great discussion questions and vocabulary. I found it interesting it mixed in aspects of Cinderella, it was a little odd at first but I like the original story it created. Overall a great early reader graphic novel.

A story that we all know, beauty and the beast, this time in graphic novel style, in which we can enjoy the already known story (Disney version), in itself, the story is very simplified, it shows you the high moments of the story, and shows you his illustration, I liked the illustrations, they help the story.
It is short, beautiful, and a boy or girl would certainly like it.
This very short retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale is very simplistic, with very little character development. While it hits many of the story beats of the Disney adaptation, much of the humor is lost. The illustrations are lovely with Beauty's family presenting as Black as a nice change. This book will work well for newly independent readers who want a graphic novel.
First, I want to thank the publisher and author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I've read a good number of middle grade graphic novels and unfortunately this wasn't one of the best. I really enjoyed the illustration style and the vibrant colors in the artwork. But, the story itself was very simplistic and the dialogue was lacking. I was hoping for more of a twist on the classic tale.
This would be a good starting point for kids just starting to read graphic novels. I like how the beginning of the book explained how to properly read graphic novels and emphasized that the picture and dialogue together create the story. Also, the discussion questions at the end make for good talking points with the child.
Overall, good book for beginners but if you have an avid reader, especially one who is familiar with graphic novels, this might be a little boring.
This was cute and a fun little retelling of beauty and the beast. I did wish it was longer.
And maybe a bad guy. :( but it was enjoyable
Thank you to the publisher for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really didn't like this one. I gave it a 2 star because the art is very pretty. However this one adds nothing to the new story other than the fact that they made Beauty black which I liked. However!
For some reason halfway through the book she nearly is as light as a white person. The consistence in skin colour is so bad and honestly in my opinion disrespectful. The tints literally are never the same and it's not just because of the "Lighting". That's a stupid excuse a black person doesn't turn white in the sun that is bullshit, same way the other way around!!! I really hope they edit it before it's being published because I want a consistent black coloured character and not some half assed "We wanted to include everyone" stuff.
I would not recommend this book. Not only does it add nothing to the original story. It's just simply overdone and also rushes through the story in a span of around 34 pages. Highly disappointing and sad.
Do not recommend
Beauty and the Beast is a charming and adorable retelling through graphic novel of the original tale. Boasting beautiful artwork this would be perfect for children as it moves in a rushed manner through the story. Enjoyable for all, but probably more fun for children or parents with small children.
This was an adorable graphic novel retelling of the story of Beauty and the Beast. The artwork was beautiful. The story felt a bit rushed, but it is perfect for children.
Thank you to NetGalley and Picture Window Books for sending me an advanced copy of Beauty and the Beast!
Beauty and the Beast has been colorfully retold in this fun and engaging new book!
After her father unwittingly steals a rose from a monster’s castle, Beauty is sent to live with the monster as payment. Beauty is terrified of being doomed to spend the rest of her days trapped in a lonely castle. Before too long, she begins to realize that perhaps the man living in the castle isn’t a monster after all!
This book does a great job of capturing and condensing the highlights from the classic story, Beauty and the Beast! Some of the original story matter is removed to make the book a very quick read, which could easily be enjoyed before bedtime! I was absolutely enchanted by the bold art style of Thais Damião; his use of color was simply delightful! This story deals with the themes of seeing past appearances to understand someone on a deeper level. It would be a great pick for a younger child or any Beauty and the Beast fan!
My Recommendation-
This book would be perfect for kids wanting to start reading graphic novels on their own for the first time! The story is quick and easy to follow, so even the most reluctant readers can enjoy it! If you have been searching for a fun read to share with your child (or if you’ve been needing a short and easy read yourself) Beauty and the Beast would be a good choice!
I really liked the "mash-up" of the Cinderella story (two "wicked" sisters) and the Beauty & the Beast story (beautiful nice girl who loved to read). The illustrations were awesome and the story was really nice. Great story for young children.
This was a good retelling of Beauty and the Beast for young readers due to the simplified storyline. I thought that the art was gorgeous and I appreciated the fact that we were given diverse characters. I'm not sure why the choice was made to bring in two "evil" sisters and essentially make it a Cinderella/Beauty and the Beast mash-up. Additionally, it is not made clear why the Beast is sick/dying at the end, which was confusing. However, I think that this is an accessible way to get reluctant readers started into graphic novels, as most people are at least somewhat familiar with the Beauty and the Beast story.
Very simple and beautifully drawn Beauty and the Beast Retelling. This would be a good story book for a very young audience. I just wish that the story was not as heavy handed with making the sisters out to be villains.
Finally able to download this and give it a read! God, it was adorable. I loved the artwork and how the beast was drawn! Obviously the story was adorable, but the artwork just really made me love this so much.
This had a little twist to the Disney Beauty an the Beast which was a nice change. It gave enough of a plot so that it would be easier to read by younger children.
