I absolutely love the Daniel Pitt series and this new addition doesn't disappoint! As always, the plot is complex and very well developed. Love all the characters and learning more about the development of forensic science. There is a lot going on in this story but it all fit together in the end and I am looking forward to the next in the series. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.
I haven't read Anne Perry's mysteries in quite some time and was grateful for the opportunity to read this novel which is not the first in this series but what I enjoy by Ms. Perry. This is a story of Daniel Pitt and has three cases in one plot which deal with frensica matters. The main character, Miriam Croft, is a major part of the plot but exudes the misnoma about women of that time...which are viewed as inferior and unintelligible. She proves the wrong and I enjoyed her character. .The other character is Sir Barnabas Saltram who is also instrumental with helping Daniel to win his case. There are twists, turns more mystery and you got to read this book in summary. A well-written story by Anne Perry and I enjoyed reading her works again. A well-developed story and recommended read.
I would like to thank the Publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4-Stars
I'm always excited when a new Anne Perry mystery is released. In the third installment of the Daniel Pitt series, Daniel has three cases in one--all of which deal with the forensic science behind arson-related murders. One of the main characters in the series, Miriam fford Croft, plays a major role in the plot. Miriam is considered eccentric because she's a female scientist at a time when women are still viewed as intellectually inferior to men. Reluctantly, she engages with a former teacher, Sir Barnabas Saltram, to serve as an expert witness to the case that Daniel's firm is handling. Saltram is a leading forensic scientist, and his testimony helps Daniel to win his case. But then another crime occurs, identical to the first one. Once more, Daniel must go to court to defend the accused of a crime--only this time he thinks his client is guilty. He quickly makes enemies of Saltram, but it's hard to go into details without giving away spoilers. As is often the case with Anne Perry, the story is full of social commentary, and the moral lessons can be a bit heavy-handed at times. But overall, the plot was a strong one, and I enjoyed watching the story develop.
My favorite part of the book was getting to spend more time with Daniel's mother, Charlotte Pitt, whom I always loved in the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt mysteries. I hope that future installments will allow Charlotte, and her sister Emily, to take a larger role in the plot. I'm also interested to see how the romance between Miriam and Daniel evolves.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
Anne Perry's Daniel Pitt series is fresh, invigorating, and a first class read. Daniel, who is the son of Sir Thomas and Lady Pitt, is a newly minted lawyer with a place in a prestigious London chambers. He is drawn into an arson and murder case by Jessica Beale, and agrees to represent her young man, Rob Ardwell. Pitt is introduced to forensic specialist Sir Barnabus Saltram by his friend, the scientist, Miriam fford Cross, who was once one of Sir Barnabus's students. The case is won on Saltram's testimony that the heat of the fire caused the death and Ardwell is found not guilty.
Soon, though, Ardwell, himself, is killed in remarkably similar circumstances, and Jessica Beale is charged with his murder. Should Pitt again use Saltram to clear his client? Or are there reasons why both Pitt and Miriam might want to discredit him? The consequences of crossing Saltram may be dire. Can Pitt and Miriam outwit him? One Fatal Flaw is a cracking good yarn by the best writer of historical mysteries in the world. Highly recoommended. Thanks to Ballentine Books and NetGalley for the ARC provided for this honest review.
Three cases are tied into this plot for Daniel to figure out in the time era of 1910. Was the person guilty or could a witness be found. Good Victorian type crimes that keep one interested to figure out.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Random House and Net Galley.
I enjoyed re-visiting the Daniel Pitt series. This was a well-written mystery with a lot of red herrings. There was also interesting character development. I look forward to reading more in this series.
Daniel Pitt along with his parents, his office mates and Miriam are back with another case. Actually three cases are covered in this book. Jessie Beal asks Daniel for help on an impossible case. Miriam comes up with a star witness that has ties to her past, who helps Daniel. However, there is more to this star witness and his past as well as Jessie Beal and the case.
As always the story line continues with all the main characters and we become more involved with their lives. The mystery and forensics that were new at the time are interesting and help the story to flow well. I truly enjoy Anne Perry's writing. Thank you #NetGalley for the chance to read #OneFatalFlaw and give my honest opinion.

Anne Perry is one of our most popular authors at our library. Thrilled that she's keeping continuing the "family" business of detecting with Daniel Pitt. Anyone who enjoys historical mysteries will adore her series.
