This is a very depressing book. What a sad girl. She is chased by her demons. Both inside of her and from the outside world

Psychological thriller. Biographical portrayal of the life of a recovering alcoholic. A story of human passions. In the eye of the reader it can be many things to many people. All action and moves quickly. Carefully crafted it has a well developed plot and believable characters. Well worth reading.

The one thing that bothered me the most about this book is the title: "Who Did You Tell?" It should be "WHOM Did You Tell?", and I had to read the bad grammar every time I turned the page, causing me to shudder each time!
This book seemed to have two main themes. First, Astrid was carrying secrets that the reader wasn't supposed to learn for awhile. Second, she always sensed that she was being followed. Maybe she was! She's an alcoholic whose mother has agreed to let her move home on the condition that she attend AA meetings. Besides a male friend and his father, her only associates are the fellow AA members. I guessed the ending early on but still enjoyed everything that led up to it.

This book was a rather slow read. As such, it was not a page turner. As I read the book there was nothing that I was looking forward to discovering. In addition, I found the abrupt ending too fairy tale like.

This book hooked me from the very start! Astrid is a going woman battling alcoholism and her demons. That’s hard enough but then someone starts tormenting her and wreaking havoc on her mind and life. Excellent story that will definitely keep you entertained!

I totally enjoyed this book! I was hooked from the very beginning to the crazy twisty ending. A great tale of life love and everything in between. A great lesson in just who we should trust, and just how much. Hard to put down. Highly recommend!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

While this book has a good premise, I didn't really feel like it was complex enough- especially with the abundance of thrillers out there. I just really needed more going on, more tension, more drama, more character development. Overall, it's a fine, straightforward book, but a little too blah for me.

Almost every family has an addict in its corner. "Who Did You Tell" has an alcoholic as the main character.
Astrid, a recovering addict, reluctantly moves back in with her mother. There's no other place to go. She has some demons in her past, which continue to plague her in this beach town. Her mother constantly watches her to make sure she stays rehabilitated.
A great portion of this book tells about the life and desires of an alcoholic. Once an alcoholic, an alcoholic for life. Drinks are described in a sensual way -- oh, so very sensual! The bad aspects of drinking too much is also described vividly. And the AA meetings with bad-tasting coffee!
There wasn't much of a mystery or suspense in the book; yes, some stalking. The real focus was on what wine does.
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House for the priviledge of reading this book.

I received this book "Who Did You Tell?" from NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own. I was unable to get into this book. I could not wait to finish it. I didn't connect with the characters at all. Slow, slow, slow. I don't know why I finished this book.

I really like this novel, which at its core is about alcoholism and the devastation it can create in any number of lives. The book centers on an alcoholic just out of rehab who is struggling to stay sober, but who is haunted by ghosts of her past and things she did while drinking.

At first I wished the book would move a bit faster on the suspense angle, but later on (about halfway through) I realized the earlier part of the book was necessary to show us Astrid’s progress in beating the disease. This makes the last half of the book all the more devastating and suspenseful. I really liked the ending of the book - though you might see it coming, the reveal was done so well, and there’s one final very rewarding twist.

If you have any personal experience with alcoholics in your life, so much of this book will ring true. Stick with it through the slow build in the beginning - it’s worth it.

Thanks to NetGalley, Lesley Kara and Ballantine for ARC of this deeper-than-usual suspense novel.

Astrid is a recovering alcoholic, who has had more than one setback, and is now staying with her mom while she attends AA meetings and tries to get her life back together. Only her past and her deceased ex Simon, also a former alcoholic, still haunt her.

Astrid is not a very like-able character to me. She loathes a little too much on herself and is somewhat repetitive, but it was still interesting to read about her most of the time. We’re taken into her story through 3 ways: her past mistakes, her current AA relationships and her new blooming relationship with a man she has just met. There are also creepy background chapters thrown in from someone who is out to get her for her past, and I LOVE creepy background chapters from a stalkers POV! No one that she has met in her new town is reliable or trustworthy and the twists in this one were good!

Thanks to NetGalley, Lesley Kara and Ballantine Books for this ARC!

The true value of the book was in describing the life of an alcoholic – not just her own demons and her own struggles, but the way her poor choices affect everyone who loves her. This aspect of the story was very real and very painful.

This darkness coupled with the early sexual frivolity with a new acquaintance made me close the book. I was not able to read beyond the first 25%.

I appreciate this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, Ballantine Books, in exchange for an honest review. I’m sorry I couldn’t finish.

The twists and turns will keep you hooked until the very end of this psychological thriller about a recovering alcoholic and the secrets that haunt her.

This was an ok read, I especially enjoyed the recovering alcoholic perspective. The thriller/mystery part was fairly obvious though. Nice final twist though.

I received an Arc from NetGalley in exchange for my review.

Astrid, a recovering alcoholic, has moved home to live with her mom while she tries to get her life together. She hasn’t had a drink in 6 months but somebody is doing there best to sabotage that. While Astrid is trying to move on from the past somebody is intent on making sure she doesn’t forget.

I liked this book although I wouldn’t consider it a “thriller”. It gives a little insight into the struggles an addict faces once sober. I thought the storyline was great as well as the writing.

Dealing with a horrendous past is one thing, having that nasty past com back to haunt you is another. Although the location is lovely, some of the inhabitants of the town are not so much.
In attempting to put her life back on track, she attends the appropriate meetings but things are just not right, but not sure how or why.
The ending is a little disjointed, but this is a good read; I would not necessarily say its fun, there are some painful parts here, but an absorbing read.

In Lesley Kara's latest release, Astrid is a recovering alcoholic determined to start over. She moves to a small town outside of London and commits to a new path of sobriety. Soon she finds her AA group, a new job, and even a boyfriend. But someone is determined to not let her start over.

Astrid has a secret--and one she is not anxious to share with even her AA group. Their secrets may be horrible, but hers may have been deadly. And her secret may just be stalking her...

I loved this tale of new beginnings, and coming to terms with your past (or in this case, the past coming to terms with you!). The story had enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. As soon as think you know how it'll end, you're gifted with an ending you didn't expect. I couldn't put this book down. I haven't read her first published book, The Rumour, yet, and plan to put it high on my TBR list.

To me, because I had alcoholism in my family, this was a difficult book to read. Nevertheless, since I enjoyed THE RUMOR, I persisted and I’m glad that I did since I’m such a big fan of psychological thrillers. This one, because of the theme of recovering from alcohol addiction, is a very dark thriller that follows the main character Astrid in her quest to stay sober. Astrid is doing all that she can to be successful, but she has secrets that someone obviously wants to disclose in some kind of desire for revenge against her. The plot is well-developed, gradually pulling back a curtain on all of the secrets and twists. These plot twists definitely kept me guessing and absorbed in the story. I thought that the story had a slow start, sped up in the middle and slid satisfyingly to the conclusion. Fans of psychological suspense and Lesley Kara will enjoy this new book. I gave it three stars because of the dark theme and the slow start with a slow build-up to a faster pace.

I love finding a book whose story takes place in the United Kingdom. This one is even better- it’s in a coastal town on the North Sea. The homes, foods, habits, and phrases are all so endearing; I would love to visit an area like this one day.
Astrid has returned to her childhood home to live with her mother while she continues her recovery for alcoholism. This was an interesting facet of the story; Astrid’s demons and struggles are laid out bare, the horrible broken memories, the filthy mattresses, the sweats, shakes, and the unending desire for another drink. The author, Lesley Kara did a splendidly candid yet heartfelt description of Astrid’s daily struggles.
Astrid meets a nice young guy and begins doing a commissioned art project at his father’s home. She really likes this family but hesitates to be honest about her illness and why she’s back home with her mother. In her AA meetings, she’s met some interesting people, in particular Helen and Rosie. All along we know there’s something fishy about these two women but we just can’t put our finger on it. Then the threats begin showing up in the mail. Astrid lost her old boyfriend, Simon to suicide, something she feels she had an influence in. She also has a vague memory of a crime she and Simon committed. With the guilt of these memories bearing down on her, she knows somebody who knows the truth has gotten especially close, maybe even visiting her mother under false pretenses.
As the tension, guilt, and stress become too much for Astrid to handle, it becomes harder and harder for her to stay away from the numbing comfort of alcohol. And here’s where the story begins to lose me.
We have a beautiful setting, a believable and compassionate recovering alcoholic, a light mixture of a very few other people in her life, then the web gets slung a bit sloppily for me to enjoy. The ending is interesting but a bit chaotic. It felt rushed, cut to the chase, too many key players set on the tiny stage of this whimsical fishing village. I stuck with it but was a bit let down that the last 10% wasn’t as captivating as the first 90%. I will gladly read another book by Lesley Kara though. Her writing style is beautiful and most of her characters are relatable.
