I won a free copy of Alice Feeney’s “His & Hers” and I really enjoyed it. It was a fast paced thriller that dug into the past of the main character Anna to show how she is connected to the murder of a former friend. This book had lots of twists and turns and had you guessing until the end as to who the killer is. I enjoyed the back and forth between Anna’s views and Jack’s views and I felt this made the book move more quickly due to the different perspectives. I would recommend this book to people who like thrillers, especially ones that have twists and turns.

I am a steadfast fan of @alicewriterland’s thrillers. I’ve read them all! I can always depend on her books to have a captivating psychological component, exciting twists, and intriguing characters. She also has a way of sneaking in clever details and astute observations of the human condition. It’s always a wildly fantastic ride.

The story of HIS & HERS is told through three alternating narratives: HIS, HERS, and our killer. The HERS chapters are those of Anna Andrews, a BBC reporter who finally has her dream job as a news anchor. In her hometown of Blackdown, her childhood friend is brutally murdered, and she has been asked to cover it. There are old friends she doesn’t want to run into, so the last thing Anna wants to do is go back to Blackdown. Does she go anyway?...of course. The HIS chapters are those of DCI Jack Harper, head of the major crimes unit, and investigating the case. For his own reasons, Jack fled London to start anew and work in this small countryside town, but he can’t escape the fact that he knows the victim. Or that Anna is his ex-wife.

ADDICTIVE is the word of the day. Feeney is the master of psychological suspense, chilling characters, and creative plot twists. I loved every minute of it. Both Anna and Jack have interesting backstories, and like with any small town, everyone is too close to everyone else. The dueling viewpoints had me on the edge of my seat, desperately trying to figure out this obscure, puzzling battle of who’s lying.

HIS & HERS is nothing short of compulsive brain candy. Once again, Feeney delivers her signature style of short chapters, sharp pacing, and outright craziness that I’ve come to enjoy.

Side note: I read my physical copy provided by @flatiron_books about three months ago, and then recently, when @librofm provided me with the audiobook, I gave it a listen. Both formats are excellent! I breezed right through my copy, and then when I listened to the audiobook, I was obsessed. Stephanie Racine and Richard Armitage are fantastic. And kudos for the use of the voice changer for the killer’s voice.

I really enjoyed this book. The twists were creative and while I was able to predict a couple more caught me completely by surprise. I liked the style of this book as well - chapters alternating from Anna and Jack with the killers thoughts attached to both in italics. I loved that Anna’s history unfolded along with the current mystery. Anna and Jack had a child but she tragically died in her sleep with no one at fault. But Jack and Anna couldn’t stay together through their grief and both are barely coping. Jack is a police detective and Anna a journalist and both are Investigating a murder in their home town, which Anna left far behind long ago. The killer does not appear to be willing to stop at one murder and so it became a race to see if Jack and Anna can figure out who is truly to fault in time to save themselves.

“His and Hers” by Alice Feeney was a dark, twisty, thriller that kept me on my toes throughout the whole book. The store is told from two different perspectives. One is hers, Anna the the scorned reporter who says (“ people working in media have more power than politicians” )comes back to her hometown where her past friend was murder to report the story. The other is his, the ex husband and detective doing the investigation. Reminding us over and over again throughout that their are two sides to every story and that your past can come back to haunt you. Definitely a page turner with some unexpected twist and turns along the way.

Synopsis: “There are two sides to every story: yours & mine, ours & theirs, his & hers. Which means someone is always lying.”. Anna & Jack used to be married; tragedy ended their relationship. Now Anna is a newscaster for the BBC sent to cover a string of mysterious murders in her hometown; Jack just happens to be the lead detective on the case. Anna’s former classmates (and former friends) are the victims; clues left behind point to someone close to the case. Both Jack & Anna have secrets they’d like to keep hidden, but will uncovering these secrets help lead to the mysterious killer?

Review: I don’t even know where to begin with this book y’all. This psychological thriller is the wildest rollercoaster ride I’ve been on this year (and that says a lot cause 2020 is crazy!). Every single chapter left me questioning my sanity because I kept flip-flopping on who the killer was.

His & Hers is told from multiple points of view; Anna, Jack & the killer. This adds to the mystery & intrigue of the storyline: you get to see the story from all angles. Feeney did a superb job is leaving the reader wanting more after every single chapter; you’ll want to read the whole thing in one sitting. Every single aspect of this book, from character development to the dark & desolate setting of Blackdown & its infinite forest create an atmosphere of mind twisted goodness. I cannot recommend this book enough!

One story,
Two sides; Yours and mine, ours and theirs, his and hers,
Someone is lying...
Anna, a BBC news reporter/presenter and DCI Jack Harper both narrate this unsettling and creepy story of murder, secrets, lies and betrayal.
Everyone is telling their own version of the story, but who is telling the truth?

So fair warning this was a bit slow to start off but once it picked up i literally COULD NOT put it down until i had read the whole book and was up until 3 am. i loved the different Povs

also there are SOOO many good quotes in this book for instance:
"Sometimes I think I am the unreliable narrator of my own life.
Sometimes I think we all are" the accuracy is uncanny.
This could quite possibly be the murder mystery of the year!!
Alice Feeny rocked on this one!

I dont want to give too much away but this is definitely a MUST READ!

His & Hers by Alice Feeney⁣

Happy pub day to His & Hers! Thank you so much to Flatiron Books for the gifted e-book and fun bracelets!⁣

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣

SYNOPSIS: Anna Andrews, a BBC anchor, is reluctant to return to her hometown to cover an murder. The story gets a bit more complicated as the lead detective on the case is Jack, Anna’s ex husband. Someone isn’t telling the truth..⁣

THOUGHTS: This is by far one of the best books I have read this year. This thriller was unlike any I have read in a long time. I kept thinking I knew who was guilty only to have the plot twist even darker. The story kept me on my toes! I loved the dual narrative of Anna and Jack’s perspective, as well as the narrative of the murderer. Good luck guessing the ending of this crazy psychological thriller! If you are a fan of gone girl, verity, or literally any and all thriller I highly recommend reading this one!

Applause for Alice Feeney on her newest novel "His & Hers" A big Thank you to Flatiron Books and NetGalley for the advanced digital copy! She’s back...Alice Feeney has written another fantastic psychological thriller! I’m a huge fan of the author and enjoyed her previous novels. So I was super excited to receive and read an early copy of her latest work. Once I opened His & Hers I did not want to put it down. With a dark, twisty, captivating storyline I was completely hooked. A true tale of enthralling suspense that would not let me go until the very last turn of the page. I loved every part of this intensely addictive thriller. If you are a fan of psychological thrillers then highly recommend adding His & Hers to your reading list.

There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, His & Hers. Which means someone is always lying.

Happy Publication Day, @alicewriterland !!!

Book Review

Synopsis:
When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation.

Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.

My (Mini) Take:
Trigger Warnings: Descriptive Animal Cruelty, Rape and Graphic Violence.

Written in a confusing POV manner - flipping from one character to another - made it difficult for me to invest in any of them. A dark, twisty, fast paced read, that just didn't pan out for me.

⭐⭐ Pick it up and try it for yourself, be warned - it's confusing and dark; and that narrator? Creepy As Hell.

Thanks to @flatiron_books @netgalley
And Ms. @alicewriterland for my e-reader ARC of this book.

I love thrillers, and love to be left guessing. This one definitely had me guessing until the very end. The pace is fast, and the little tidbits of information within each scene will make you think you have everything figured out. Trust me, you do not! Feeney's use of alternating perspectives is brilliant and provides dual insight into the events of the book. As I said, I was left guessing and was shocked by the ending, which I of course will not give away here. All I can say is read it and enjoy the ride.

This book had so many twists and turns, Ever time I think I had it figured out, boom, nope. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. I thought it was well developed. I felt it did go on a bit longer than it had to a couple of times, but I definitely recommend it if you like a book that keeps your guessing.

"His & Hers" by Alice Feeney is everything a twisty thriller should be! This may be one of my top favorite books this year. I loved this original story and enjoyed all of the many twists and turns in the plot. Just when you think you have it figured out, you don't! The less you know going in, the better. 5 stars and this book is one I highly recommend!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am giving this amazing book ten stars. Make sure you have plenty of time to dedicate to this twisty and dark roller coaster of a ride because it's an edge of your seat read. A must read. One of 2020's best books yet. Must have top spot on your TBR stack. You'll never guess who it is. Happy reading!

His & Hers is a dark and twisty story told by Jack Harper(his) and his ex-wife, Anna Andrews (hers). Full of suspense and surprises, the story unfolds slowly and methodically in a way that lulls you into a false sense of security until another person is found dead. Then the rug is pulled out from under you.

What I Loved
The narration is spot-on. It can be confusing if you must leave off in the middle of a chapter because the voices are not distinct, but the two narrators are imperative for the telling of this story, so that is easily forgiven. Anna is the main character, as the back story is mostly hers to tell; however, Jack plays a critical support role and can fill in the gaps. Anna is a very intricately developed character that is full of flaws and missteps. And though the support characters are not as well developed, they are as fleshed out as the plot allows without giving away the truths behind the secrets too soon.

I loved that this is a story about secrets, lies, and the systematic and planned unfolding of the truth. Truths, once revealed, twist and turn your thoughts until you cry "uncle," but then the story keeps going to take the dark deliciousness to unspeakable heights. As much as I love this, it also makes a review of substance exceedingly tricky, since I always strive to avoid all spoilers. And there are so many potential spoilers, which is useful in a sense because it speaks to the amount of fun you will have reading this story.

I loved the short chapters as it keeps the story at a fast pace that is matched by what is going on. The novel took me to the past and back to the present at a wickedly enticing speed, and both stories are thoroughly engrossing. At no point did I note a lull in the story, and I love it when a book keeps me on my toes from start to finish.

To Read or Not to Read
If you love dark and twisty stories that take you on a fast-paced thrill ride, this is the story you won't want to miss this summer.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of Queen of the Unwanted in exchange for an honest review.

Hello Gemmies! I have an exciting book review to share with you today. Please note: I received a digital ARC of this book (via NetGalley) from its publisher in exchange for an honest and fair review.

His & Hers is a new mystery thriller by Alice Feeney. I was very excited to receive this one to review. This story is full of twists, turns, and misdirection. Events unfold by being told from three point of views...Anna Andrews a news correspondent, her ex husband/detective Jack Harper, and the killer. His & Hers is a bit of a slow burn at times but a very entertaining read. Let's start with the story. The world building is descriptive and solid. We get two distinct timelines and stories that provide clues to who the murderer is. The dual timelines and slow unfolding of facts aid in telling one cohesive story. Trigger warning: there are some scenes with sexual assault and animal abuse.

His & Hers is also a well written character driven story with a diverse cast of characters that I found to be dynamic and complex. I have to say though, I found both Anna and Jack to be insufferably naive.....or are they? There are so many twists you honestly don't know and will be kept guessing until the very end. I may be blood thirsty, but I never rooted for a killer to win more. LOL The world building is vivid enough that you find yourself immersed in the story in each point in time. There are themes of revenge, grief, and betrayal.

This gem published by Flatiron Books is set to release today July 28, 2020 and is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give His & Hers 4 out of 5 gems. I cannot wait for this story to be out in the world for all to read and enjoy. Happy Reading!

n 2018 Alice Feeney burst onto the psychological thriller scene with her debut novel, Sometimes I Lie. Sometimes I Lie became a New York Times best seller and has been optioned as a TV series. Feeney’s next book I Know Who You Are, was just as entertaining and compelling as Sometimes I Lie, making Feeney an auto read author for me. With His & Hers, Feeney has more than proven her staying power in the crowded arena of psychological thrillers.

Anna Andrews, a news reporter for BBC, left Blackdown village and never looked back. Now a woman has been murdered, in her hometown and the story has been assigned to her to report. On the investigative side, DI Jack Harper is assigned to the same case. Anna and Jack are not happy to see each other at the murder scene. They are both linked to the murder victim, and they both have something to hide.

His & Hers is told from both Anna’s and Jack’s perspective as well as the killer. Within all three points of view, the past is recounted. Rather than specific chapters being dedicated to the past, Feeney flashes back while the character is still in the present. The past is recalled by the character naturally, which is how most of us remember the past. A smell, a picture, something someone says in passing can awaken memories we’ve long forgotten. This easy reminiscence gives the story an effortless flow.

Anna will be a complicated character for most readers. She has her issues and some of her decisions are questionable. Not that Jack is perfect (He is not) but this murder is affecting Anna far more than Jack. Causing her to relive trauma and guilt for her past actions or lack of actions. Readers will want to cheer for Anna but will also be disappointed by the way she handles situations. I love a character who makes me feel more than one emotion. It makes the character more real. In life no person is all one thing; people are multifaceted. Literary characters should be multifaceted as well.

Feeney is an author who knows what buttons to push, she knows how to hook a reader as well as how to keep them hooked. His & Hers is an engaging and tangled story of two damaged people who seem unable to move on from their pasts. Teeming with suspense and an ending I did not see coming at all. Readers looking for a fast paced, relatable, and gripping read should add His & Hers to their list of must reads.

Murder and Moore Rating:
4 out of 5 Stars

From my blog: Always With a Book:

I have been a fan of Alice Feeney since the beginning and I just fall in love with her writing more and more with each new book. This time around, I decided to go the audio route and all I can say is WOW! Whether you read or listen to this book, just know it is amazing!

I loved everything about this story! From the short chapters, to the twists and turns that this story takes, to the unreliable narrators - this book kept me guessing what was going on all the way through. It is fast paced and one of those stories that it's almost better going in blind because you want to experience it for all it's worth.

I listened to this book in one day because I could not put it down. I was completely captivated by the story. It is dark and twisted and I was all in. It's the type of story where everyone is a suspect and you don't know who you can trust - the type of story that I love! It's told from alternating POV's of Anna and Jack and a mysterious, creepy third person, who is not revealed until the very end. And let me just tell you, I was floored when this person was revealed! I had many guesses as to who this person may be and I never once guessed right.

I cannot recommend this book enough. I think this might be Alice's best book yet and I've loved them all! If you like dark, twisted, addictive reads, definitely pick this one up. And if you enjoy audio books, I highly recommend listening to this one - it's definitely done very well.

Audio thoughts: This was one of the best audio books I've listened to in quite a while. I was so excited to see it as a ALC pick from @Libro.fm and I jumped on it. Both Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine did such a great job with their parts, especially Richard with the mysterious third person, having that distorted voice sound effect - that was such an amazing way to do the voice so that we never knew who that person was until the reveal. Both narrators were spot on with their pacing and intonation and really did a great job bringing this audio book to life.

7/28/20 ,it’s my birthday and it’s also the release day for His & Hers by Alice Feeney. Imagine my delight when I was informed I won an early copy of the book from Flatiron Books and the author.
Then I was granted an audiobook copy of the book to review by NetGalley. At that point I was about half way through the kindle book . So I listened to the book as often as possible it catch up and in the evenings I would read on my kindle and continue the next day.
I have to admit even though most of my reading the last few years have been audiobooks I did prefer the kindle book over the audiobook. Sometimes I prefer the voices I imagine over the narrators of the audiobook and this was the case. I didn’t care for the male characters voice.
This book was fast paced with the 3 unreliable narrators . I love flawed , outrageous, often unlikeable characters. They do things we wish we dared to do.
Here’s some the many highlights of the book.

“Sometimes I think I am the unreliable narrator of my own life. Sometimes I think we all are.”

“Memories are shapeshifters. Some bend, some twist, and some shrivel and die over time. But our worst ones never leave us.”

“The lies we tell ourselves are always the most dangerous. I think it’s instinct; self-preservation is a fundamental part of our DNA. We are a species of liars, and sometimes we deliberately connect the dots in the wrong order, and pretend to make sense of what we see. We stretch the stories of our lives to fit our own desired narratives, presenting a prettier picture for those around us. Honesty loses every time to a lie less ordinary, and truth is overrated. Far better to make it up than to make do. The world of make-believe isn’t just for children. Like shoes, the stories we tell about ourselves get bigger with age. When we grow out of one, we make up another. I did what I had to do.”

So if you love books the mess with your head give His & Hers a try. You won’t regret it.

Thank you FlatIron Books and Alice Feeney and NetGalley for the books to review .

I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

I thought this was a pretty good book. The story wasn't unique and the characters themselves weren't particularly likeable but it all came together. It was pretty predictable, until it wasn't! I really didn't see that twist coming at the end! Well done 'Ms. Feeney!

I would definitely recommend.

This was a great thriller! All of the essential elements are present: a serial killer, unreliable narrators, creepy woods, flashbacks from the devious activities that take place in teenagerhood… and of course, suspicion cast on EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER throughout the course of the story. The plot reveals were wonderfully twisted and the writing was strangely beautiful. Alice Feeney has a knack for deep characterization and weaving together suspenseful actions that somehow seem believable. Overall, 4/5 stars!
