Told in alternating chapters of mother and daughter, this was a riveting thriller from start to finish and my new Wendy Walker favorite! Loved the characters, loved the twists, loved the creepiness. I read this book at lightening speed!
Don’t Look For Me by Wendy Walker was given to me thru St. Martins Press, thru NetGalley for an honest review. This is the first novel that I have read by Wendy Walker, and wow what a read. Don’t Look for Me had me hooked from the very beginning, and I love Wendy Walker’s writing style. She drew me in from the very beginning, kept me wanting more, and devoured this book quickly.
Molly Clarke after seemingly not being able to deal with what is going on in her household and within herself, decides to pack it up and leave it all behind. Or was it something else altogether. As Don’t Look For Me unfolds, she is not the first woman to “run away from it all”. However, Nic (Nicole, her daughter) does not believe for a moment that her mom would up and leave, despite finding a note stating the opposite. For some who power will use for their own sake despite what happens to the people who are dragged into his weave.
As Nicole looks for her mom, she meets a man who seemingly sweeps her off her feet and even tries to help look for mom. Nicole is used to taking guys for a night or two and then just tossing them aside, but could he be the one that keeps her grounded, or is he too good to be true?
Don’t Look For Me by Wendy Walker is wonderful, thrilling, emotional read. I truly could not put this book down. Thank you Wendy Walker , St. Martins Press and NetGalley for an ARC of novel.
Don’t Look For Me by Wendy Walker.
> Holy cow Batman!
Don’t Look For Me is about a woman named Molly Clarke, who lost her 9 year old daughter in a tragic accident brought on by herself, who is still grieving and trying her best to be a good mother to her other two children, who are not quite children anymore.
Molly goes missing and the police think she has walked away from her life from the pain and the guilt. Molly’s oldest daughter Nicole, thinks her mother would never leave them. Soon after the search party ends, she receives a mysterious phone call from a woman who has information about the night her mother disappeared.
What happens next is truly riveting, exciting, an on the edge of your seat suspense ride that left me dumbfounded. This novel is a page turner of epic proportions! I honestly couldn’t put it down! The audiobook is just as amazing and made this story really come to life!
The chapter transitions are flawless and I loved that they switched between past and present time. When I thought I knew what was going on, I was soon mistaken and taken on another wild ride. The whodunnit aspect is truly brilliant and kept me interested! In the last four or so chapters, I was literally on the edge of my seat, mind fully blown! 🤯
I’ve officially found my auto-buy thriller author! I can’t wait to checkout more from Wendy Walker. I highly recommend that you do too!
A HUGE Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin's Press and Wendy Walker for the wonderful opportunity to read and review this book!
Never a spoiler in my review - this is about the book, not a recap of the story. This book enveloped me from the beginning. I came upon it by sheer accident and am so glad I took the chance. This is a new to me author who knows how to drive the story home. The story is very well written, suspenseful with loads of drama - will keep you guessing until the end, with no shortage of twists and turns until you get there. A nail biter-edge-of-your-seat read that you'll be glad you picked up. Ended a little differently than I expected but the ending took nothing away from the book at all. If suspense, thrills, intrigue, drama, and action are what you look for in a book, this is one for you. Get it now, and based on this book, I'll certainly be looking for more reads by this author. I received a review copy from the publisher and Net Galley, and am sharing my honest, unsolicited opinion.
With heart pounding thrills and impressive twists, Wendy Walker’s newest thriller Don’t Look For Me is her best yet! A story told from two different viewpoints, on two separate, but interconnecting timelines, Walker keeps the tension level high from page one. For thriller lovers, this has everything: chills, dread, suspense, clever, and intricate plotting, and if you are like me, even the ever elusive out loud gasp!
Molly Clarke is a mother already dealing with grief from a family tragedy and recently has been seeing her family completely unravel. This is her state of mind as she is making the two hour trip coming home from her son’s football game during stormy weather, when her car dies by the side of the road. She’s driven through this town, going back and forth to her son’s school, but she doesn’t know much about it, and doesn’t know anyone who lives there.
The following day, her car is found abandoned, and soon a note is discovered in a local motel room which definitely makes it sound like Molly has decided to walk away from her family and the life that has grown so out of control. That note ends the search that her family had been conducting. After all, sometimes women under severe emotional stress do just walk away and start a new life. Is that what happened to Molly? Well, opinions differ.
As the reader, we find out exactly what happens to Molly, but through a separate timeline we see how her adult daughter Nicole responds when a new lead comes up in Molly’s case a couple of weeks later. The small town where Molly’s car was abandoned is full of unusual characters, with sometimes sketchy backgrounds. If everyone is a stranger, how do you know who you can trust? Nicole isn’t even sure if she will have the support of her father or her brother if she is going to continue to search for someone thy believe does not want to be found.
As in all of her books, Walker brings us very real, three dimensional characters throughout this tale of psychological suspense. No one is all good, no one is all bad, they are all human with flaws and motivations that we may not always agree with, but can always recognise. The pacing of this story is also just right, with twists and turns that you won’t always expect. Don’t Look For Me will keep you glued to the pages, and it is just the right length for a weekend read.
OMG one of the best thrilers I have read thus far this year! I can't even put into words the awesomeness of this story! It deals with alot of family grief and turmoil over the loss of a family member and partial blame is placed on our main character who winds up missing.
With not a moment of boredness, Don't look for Me, takes you on a ride very fast and very hard and had my skin crawling at points. It has all the feels from the pain and anguish to the creepy and frightful. I can't fathom giving this story under 5 stars. It's just that GOOD!
Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy for an honest review.
Yowza!!! I loved this book!!! The writing was tight, the characters were great, and the plot had plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing! So many people who seemed suspicious - - people who could have been responsible for Molly's disappearance. There were plenty of 'NOOOOOOOO!!' moments in the book that make the reader wonder what on earth is going to happen next!!
This book is a winner for sure!!
This wasn’t a favorite for me. I felt the pacing was fine, but the characters just fell flat. I found myself not liking anyone in the book, not even the little girl, Alice. I would give this one 2.5 to3 stars. I’m sure there are people out there who would enjoy this book. I just like more punch and surprise in my mystery/thrillers.
The Clarke family has been under severe strain for the past 5 years so it's not terribly surprising when Molly doesn't come home after visiting their son, Evan, at college. Molly and John are estranged and can't seem to bridge the gap to repair their marriage. Their daughter, Nicole, has basically kicked off her own future after being expelled from high school and the only words that come out of her mouth lately are mean ones. Although there's a search effort when Molly's car is found abandoned near a gas station, police and others soon decide that she's done a walk away. But has she? NO SPOILERS.
I have mixed emotions regarding this book as it didn't go in the direction I'd anticipated and ended up being something much different than expected. Although I read it in a single sitting today, it wasn't particularly fast-paced and there was a lot of emotion and "thinking" going on. Told from the alternating perspectives of both Molly and her daughter, Nic, there was some repetition and overlap. All told, I enjoyed it well enough but it didn't strike me as a thriller, more a psychological or domestic drama.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this E-book ARC to read and review.
Thanks to St Martins and Netgalley for the copy in exchange for a review.
Molly is a mother who is not the same after a devastating loss which has divided her family. She’s traveling alone one night during a storm when she disappears. No one knows what happened but they find a note urging them not to look for her.
Told in alternating storylines between Molly and her daughter, this is a taut thriller that I had a hard time putting down. I read it in a day and really enjoyed the story.
Don't Look for Me is a creepy mystery thriller that is sure to keep you up questioning every bump in the night. A fast-paced suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you turning the pages, never knowing what will happen next.
If you have been wishing for a dark and twisty read, this is it! I have to be in the right mood for a thriller but right now I am needing books that are totally compulsive and captivating so it was great timing. Wendy Walker shines at creating compelling narratives that will keep you guessing until the end.
I went into this book without knowing much about it and it was the perfect tension-filled reading ride. The storyline is multifaceted and has a great balance of family drama along with a completely disturbing crime story. The alternating narrators and viewpoints presented a layered look at the unfolding events.
I often wish for more layered characters in this genre but Walker completely nailed it. The creepiness factor increased by every turn of the page and the captivating plotlines left me putting on my detective hat trying to put it all together until the very last paragraph.
This isn’t an easy read and many of the topics are quite disturbing…but it was completely engrossing and totally unique. If you are looking for a suspenseful thriller that will leave you feeling unsettled long after you finish it, I highly recommend this!
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the gifted copy. As always, all opinions are my own.
After a family tragedy, Molly Clarke disappears. Although things seem to indicate that her disappearance is voluntary, her daughter Nicole is not convinced and sets out on her own determined to find out what actually happened. This exciting mystery moves along at a brisk pace. Other than Molly and Nicole, both of whom are extremely strong capable resourceful women, the book is mostly populated with a gaggle of possibly shady characters full of secrets that keep you guessing as to what is really going on. Even when you think you've got it all figured out, the conclusion will most likely still shock you. Although you may not find everything about the ending completely satisfactory especially depending on your sense of justice, all in all it's a gripping and engaging read.
I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley for review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Molly Clarke, mother of three disappeared from her abandoned vehicle on a desolate road. Has she walked away from her grief? Abandoned the two children she has left? Her distant and unresponsive husband? Or is there a much darker, insidious work behind it? In this engrossing thriller, explore the meaning of motherhood, grief and self loathing. This was a rollercoaster ride of emotions for me as a reader! The end will have you twisting!!
This is a craftily executed psychological thriller by one of my favorite authors, Wendy Walker.
One rainy night, Molly is driving on a dark road and runs out of gas, she gets out of the car to get help and does not return home that night. There are many questions left unanswered after her disappearance, is she ok? did she walk away on purpose or did something else happened to her.
The story is narrated in alternating points of view, one is from Molly, and the other one is from her daughter Nic. I found the story captivating and interesting. Wendy Walker is a great author and does an amazing job at creating and maintaining suspense. If you enjoyed this book I recommend you also read her other titles, my other favorites are EMMA IN THE NIGHT and ALL IS NOT FORGOTTEN.
Highly recommend it.

I've read and enjoyed several of Walker's previous novels, so I always keep an eye out for her latest! This one alternates perspectives between mother and daughter, with a backstory weighed down by grief. It's engaging from the very start, making this quite a compelling and fast-paced read! The plot takes some quite shocking turns, but the mounting tension grips the reader into being suspicious of every character introduced.
I really love a good mystery/thriller that thrusts "every day" people (AKA no cops, PIs, lawyers or journalists) into their own investigation. This one thoroughly succeeds at that! It was practically a one-sitting read for me that hooked me from start to finish! The small CT town, the characters all quickly sprang to life and it's so easy to just keep turning the pages! There are a few things that I wish had been more thoroughly addressed, but I really appreciate Walker's skill in building tension and literally making almost every character seem so nefarious! I genuinely enjoyed reading this one and I definitely can't wait to see what Walker will write next!
🎉HAPPY PUB DAY!🎉

Wendy Walker has DONE IT AGAIN. She is one of my go-to authors whose books I automatically add to my TBR/pre-order list. This book was no exception.
⠀
Don’t Look for Me centers around a family reeling from a traumatic event when the wife/mom walks out without a trace… or so the note says. The chapters are in alternating POVs from missing mom to her oldest daughter. I became hooked on this story immediately. I wanted - scratch that - NEEDED to know how things worked out for this family and WHO some of the characters really were (let’s just say fake names are used and you meet people differently under the two POVs). This book comes out tomorrow so I recommend that you clear your plans for several hours to read it all at once. 😜

THANK YOU so much to @netgalley and St. Martins for this. Receiving any ARC is exciting, but receiving an ARC of a favorite author is EXTRA fun. All opinions are my own.
Buzzwords/Keywords: disappearance, abandoned car & small town.
I was very excited for Wendy's new book! While it did start off interesting & quick paced it fell very flat for me very fast. It ended up becoming very predictable. Unfortunately nothing "wowed" me.
I did like getting two perspectives. One from the mother and the other from her daughter. I found myself liking the daughters chapters more. However I can say this was fast paced and stayed fast paced throughout the end.
While this was a 3 star, I think it would work out great for someone who is just starting to get into thrillers!
I did buy a copy to support Wendy & St.Martins Press! I still would read any thriller Wendy writes as they are entertaining!
Sorry this is late life got in the way, no excuses of course! Thanks so much for approving me!
Who honestly hasn’t thought of walking away, just leaving it all and not looking back? I know I certainly have (admittedly more than once), but then I remember all the good things in my life and stay, but Molly Clarke isn’t in that position. Her life is completely in shambles, and so she decides that no one would miss her and to leave, or does she?
Don’t Look for Me is a first-class thriller. Wendy is a master of the plot twist, and she does again in her latest novel. I tore through it in one sitting, putting off other commitments, which to me is the sign of a truly great book, one that you just can’t put down.
This is one that you need in your life, but, when you pick it up, make sure you tell your friends and family don’t look for me until I’m done.
Wendy Walker was on my radar after reading and enjoying Emma in the Night last year. Molly Clarke has never been the same after an unfortunate accident. Her family can’t forgive her, so she walks away from her life. But is that all that really happened? Her daughter, Nicole, begins to search for answers, and what she finds is chilling.
I devoured this one. There were so many background characters that left me wondering who I could trust. I was able to figure out some of the reveals, but there were still plenty of twists that left me shocked. The reviews of Don’t Look for Me have been amazing so far. If you’re looking for a suspenseful psychological thriller, go grab this one!
