A mother disappears after going to see her son's college football game eight hours away from home. She gets caught in a severe thunderstorm and trust a stranger and his daughter to get her to safety. Little does she know that she is going to be held captive and her family is led to believe that she just ran away because a note is left in a hotel room saying she does not want to be found.
But her daughter does not believe it, and comes back into the area she disappeared after a strong lead brings her back to investigate. It's a race against time as she attempts to find her mother and quickly learns the small town is full of secrets and hardly anybody can be trusted.
I read this book within a few days because it was packed full of suspense, especially when the kidnapper starts taking an interest in the daughter, becoming obsessed with her. As the plot thickens, all things fall into place but I was somewhat surprised at the climax of the story. This was a very good read and I thank NetGalley for allowing me to read this for an honest review.
Really enjoyed this book. I loved the suspense, I was on edge the entire time I was reading. What I enjoyed the most is that I wasn't exactly sure who the baddie was. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I would suspect someone else. I also enjoyed the two main characters points of view. I was completely invested in all of the characters. The story became a little convoluted towards the end and somewhat unbelievable but despite that it was engaging. If you are looking for a book with lots of twists and turns, then this is the book for you. Ultimately you will not be able to "Walk Away". Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This one was fantastic!
Molly Clarke lives with guilt after a tragic family accident. Her husband hardly acknowledges her, her daughter says hateful things and her son wants nothing to do with her. When she fails to return from a road trip after a storm, everyone assumes she's walked away from her life. Until her daughter receives a call leading her to believe otherwise bringing her back to the town of Hastings.
Don't Look for Me was unputdownable. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I don't want to say too much about it, because it's just one you must pick up to read for yourself. I was literally guessing until the end and even then did not see it coming. Not only was it thrilling, it's super creepy! There's one young character in particular that gave me chills time after time. Highly recommend. I'll for sure be picking up Ms Walker's backlist.
Molly Clarke's entire family is shattered when a terrible accident happens, and her youngest daughter is killed. Molly is unable to forgive herself, her husband walls himself away and stops loving Molly, the oldest daughter gets kicked out of school and is lashing out, and her son has turned cruel and punishing towards her. After a particularly demeaning day, when Molly runs out of gas just feet away from a gas station, she considers just walking away from it all. Who would even care? But after she hitches a ride with a stranger she has a change of heart. But it is too late. That stranger has plans for Molly....
This story is told in alternating parts between Molly while she is in captivity, and her daughter, who is convinced her mom didn't just walk away from them and is searching for her, It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat....one of those nail-biting, is-she-going-to-get-there-in-time-to-save-her kind of books. If you enjoy a good thriller, then this is perfect for you.
Molly Clarke doesn’t want to be found. At least that’s what investigators say when they find her car abandoned on the side of the road and a note found at a nearby hotel. They call it a “walk away” which is when someone simply walks away from their life and starts over. Her daughter, Nicole doesn’t believe that’s what happened to her mom and she’s determined to get to the bottom of her mom’s disappearance. ⠀

Another great thriller in the books 🙌🙌 It held my attention through out especially the parts from Molly’s point of view. Despite Nicole’s flaws she was super smart and I enjoyed playing detective right along with her. It was fun uncovering the town people’s secrets and trying to piece together who might be responsible for Molly’s disappearance ( I guessed wrong!!). My only complaint is that certain events that took place towards the end seemed really unbelievable. The story seemed really realistic for the most part so I was a bit disappointed in that part. This was a super creepy, suspenseful read though and it’s perfect for the fall season.
A tale of a disappearing mother where nothing is what it seems. There were a ton of twists and turns and I really couldn't predict the ending.
I was amazed by how quickly I got through this book. I simply couldn't put it down. The book was told from two perspectives - mother and daughter. I thought this was a great way to tell the tale as it allowed tension to build.
Highly recommend this one.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC. All opinions are my own.
Molly wants to escape from her life and even leaves a note. Most believe she vanished to start over, but her daughter, Nicole thinks something is wrong and tries desperately to find her mother. Molly really did leave but was picked up by a nice stranger in a rain storm and given shelter, clean clothes and food, and also promised to call her home. But soon, he does not let her leave. What is up with this guy??? Will Nicole find her mom before something terrible happens?
I thought this book was going to be predictable because there are many books about a mothers wanting to get away from their lives and start over and there is always some dramatic event and a reunion. This book has some of that but it is executed a lot better AND there are a few other surprises and twists yo will not see comin. PLUS, the ending, O-M-G!
I really enjoyed Walker's book, ALL IS NOT FORGOTTEN, even with the disturbing and upsetting subject matter, so I was eager read this and it did not disappoint. I love how it starts out slow then goes to like Mac 10 quickly and does not let up. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Thanks to Netgalley, Wedny Walker, and St Martin's Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My advice for while reading this is to forget what you think you know. Throw it out the window. Light it on fire. You’re probably wrong. This book is so scandalous and layered. I was completely absorbed in it from start to finish.
Preorder this thriller if you like:
•Multiple suspects
•Dual narratives
•Guilt ridden + flawed characters
•Parent/child dynamics
•Stalker/hostage situations
•Mystery and suspense
Damn! I loved how things got so spooky so quickly and the suspense level was top notch with this one. It’s a heavier read with some tragic circumstances and multiple characters overwhelmed with immense guilt and grief. There were deeper messages incorporated into this twisty book.
The story really pulled at my heart strings as a Mother. Most women will do just about anything for their children and to be there for their babies. This book explores motherhood in a way I’ve never seen before. Parts were heartbreaking, and I could feel the trauma radiating from the pages. However, the author excelled in demonstrating the enduring bonds between Mother and child.
Thriller lovers, GET THIS BOOK when it hits shelves September 15th! Thank you @netgalley for this ARC to review.
Trigger Warning: Accidental death of child, abduction, stalker shit 😳
Wendy Walker doesn't disappoint does she?
I was able to read this book through Netgalley, it was a READ NOW so of course I snagged it. - Thank you!
It took me a while to get through it, summers are so busy but I really enjoyed it.
When Molly Clarke's car was found abandoned miles from home a search was started to find her. A note they found during their search has led everyone to believe that Molly simply left her life behind. It was a tough life... 2 unappreciative teenagers, a husband that's never home and the weight of guilt that will forever haunt her for accidentally killing their 3rd child. But her daughter, Nicole, had to know if her mother was safe so when the search ended but then a new lead came forward, Nicole went back to search again. And that's only the tip of the iceberg.
Wendy Walker knows how to do suspense! This was a 24-hour read for me - I just could not put it down.
Molly Clarke is driving home from her son's football game, life seemingly falling apart, when her car runs out of gas just outside of a small town. The nearest gas station is closed and a storm is closing in when she decides she'll just walk into town for the night. Thankfully a kind stranger with a little girl pick her up....
What an amazing book! Molly is missing after a storm. Her family tries to find her but then a note is found in a hotel room leading them to believe she ran away. She has a lot to run away from. Her 9 year old daughter was killed and her older two children want nothing to do with her, or so she thinks. He oldest daughter Nicole, won’t give up the search.
The story alternates from the present to 14 days in the past when Molly disappeared. I enjoyed the ongoing mystery. Something new was uncovered through the book.
My favorite character was Molly. She has a terrible past to deal with and she can’t get past it. At the same time, she is so incredibly strong in her current situation. I can’t reveal to much without giving away the story but Molly is a fighter and never gives up.
This one was really tightly paced and had realistic characters that you were interested in getting to know. I think we all have had an impulse to just walk away from our lives and this book explores what happens when maybe a woman did exactly that. You are left wondering if she really did walk away from it all or did she die in a hurricane. It's a rare book where I am kept guessing but I was with this one.
This was my first book by Wendy Walker and I don't know what I've been waiting for! Don't Look for Me is not a book to sleep on; it's easily in the top 10 of 2020 for me. Walker crafted a brilliant novel that had me fully emerged in the family dynamics and imaging how everything changed in an instant only to have another instant change everything again. I read the last quarter of the book as fast as I could as new pieces of information would come out and have me thinking "THIS character" has to be involved only to completely change my mind a few pages later. As things really start to unravel and pieces start coming together, the ending will leave you realing in all the best ways.
This book immediately will suck you in. Molly Clarke is living with the regrets of a dead child. It is affecting her living children, her marriage and her mentality. So her disappearance wouldn’t seem so far fetched. But the story that comes to unfold about her disappearance is what makes this book a fast paced thriller. There are twist and turns around every corner. Just when you have a character nailed down. Boom. A new twist. I felt like I was chasing Molly along with all of the characters in the book. I felt their sorrow, their pain, their fear and determination. A five star read from Wendy Walker. Thank you Netgalley.
this one was pretty disappointing as it started out SO promising. Molly's chapters seemed so creepy and dark and I felt so anxious throughout them! I was so interested to see what was actually going on. unfortunately, I found that out a little too quickly. as the author starts to give "little" clues, I started guessing what was going and who was involved. it sucked to see I was right on almost everything. I also was so unbelievably bored with Nicole's chapters and found myself skimming through them a lot of the time. in the end, what is actually happening just isn't as scary or creepy as it seemed in the beginning (I think I've been reading too much horror lately so "standard" thrillers have been disappointing). I was pretty underwhelmed but also was still left with questions about those involved and their motives.. it didn't really make sense to me. this focused a lot on familial drama and relationships and how grief can effect these things and I just didn't really care about those aspects.
I think those that enjoyed Emma in the Night will still like this one but it just didn't work for me!
I hope you have a large chunk of time to read when you open this thriller since you won’t want to put it down.
Molly Clarke is guilt-ridden over an accident that took her youngest daughter’s life. Feeling alienated from her older children and husband, she deals with the guilt in the only way she knows how. She pulls more into herself, even wondering if she should disappear. Wouldn’t they all be happier without her?
This fast-moving novel finds Molly out of gas in Hastings, Conn. as she is returning home from visiting her son. It just happens to be the same day that her daughter Annie died, five years earlier. So, naturally, it’s a difficult day for the whole family.
Though it is storming, she abandons her car in search of help. Soon a truck approaches and she is offered a ride to Hastings. Knowing that there’s always a risk when accepting a ride from a stranger, Molly considers her options. Then seeing a very young girl in the truck with the man, she accepts his ride.
But what seems to be the answer to her problem, turns out to be a nightmare. One that feels impossible to escape.
This is a thriller that should jump to the top of your TBR list! It captures interest quickly. Shifts into drive and continues to shift as it travels faster and faster. There is no idling of the engine or sitting in neutral waiting for the story to resume.
Curiosity and suspense were present. Characters and excellent plot intertwined beautifully. The pages flew by, and my curiosity never stalled.
While I thought myself clever for paying attention and solving part of the mystery, in retrospect, I’m pretty sure what I’d solved wasn’t meant to be a deep dark secret. And there were still twists after turns coming. Things that I would never have guessed.
What Concerned Me
My only concern is that I’ve just now discovered author, Wendy Walker!
What I Liked
This story thrilled me from the start. Any spare moments were spent with my face plastered to my Kindle. I needed to know “just a little bit more.”
A must-read for those who love suspense and mysteries.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book and the ability to post my opinion.
I purposely went into this one blind and I highly recommend doing that! Told from the perspectives of Molly and her daughter Nic, this novel may have a slow start but you will get sucked in quickly. After Molly's car is found abandoned on the side of the road and a note is found a few days later the police say that she simply walked away from her life. However, Nic does not believe this and launches her own search. I will leave it to that but I really enjoyed this one! Some of the plot twists I saw coming yet was very surprised by the end! Perfect fall read to curl up and read all in one day.
Don't look for me by Wendy Walker is one of those books that you think you have read before...but it's not. Another new author for me, I picked it up and couldn't put it down. It was a fast paced, page turning, I have to know what is going on book that you think you have the answers, but then leaves you thinking what? It's also a quick read, so it doesn't give you much time before switching gears!
One night, Molly walked away from her life. After a family tragedy, she can't seem to find herself; her husband appears to be having an affair, her son is at school, and ignores her, and her daughter hates her. So she disappears; she doesn't want to be found. Her car is abandoned, and a note is found at a nearby hotel.
They called it a “walk away.” Or at least, that's the story. But is that what really happened to Molly? The book is told from two different view points: Molly's and Nicole's, her daughter, who can't believe her mother would just walk away. This just isn't an excellent mystery/thriller, it's also about family relationships; what happens when tragedy strikes and how the family can either pull together, or pull apart...if you have kids....hug them and tell them you love them.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy for a honest review.
This was my first book by Wendy Walker and definitely won’t be my last! I loved it! I figured it out about 30% in but that’s ok it was still a good read! The only reason this isn’t a 5 star is due to a few unrealistic things at the end but that’s also ok! I highly recommend this book to everyone!
I had high hopes for Don't Look for Me, unfortunately, this book fell flat. Molly Clarke goes missing after attending her son's football game. Did she walk away on her own or did something happen?
The story is told from both her and her oldest daughter's viewpoints but just seemed to drag on and on. There wasn't enough suspense or action for me.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the chance to read this book.
