It was a nice collection of essays that highlight the importance of AOC to the individuals. That said, it felt repetitive at times and very disjointed.
This book was not quite what I was expecting. It’s a collection of essays about AOC, rather than a narrative.
‘AOC: The Fearless Rise and Powerful Resonance of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ is partially an examination of Representative Ocasio-Cortez herself, and partially an examination of what it means to be a Latinx woman of color in today’s political landscape. Composed of essays from 17 writers, ‘AOC’ becomes biographical in places, in others, it’s more of a reflection on the essayists’ lives, and how the symbol of AOC has affected them individually.
In all, I think this is an important study in how impactful the rise of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and other like-minded individuals has been, not only to the Latinx population, but to us all. And how her tenacity in the face of bigotry, sexism, and racism (even from the President of the United States himself) is inspiring, and creates a sense of hope for the future direction of the United States of America.
If you find the intricacies of a changing political system fascinating, and/or are looking for inspirational female leaders to emulate, this book is definitely for you.
Thank you, NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is a great book with a variety of essays on AOC. As a Canadian, I found this book a little confusing as you really needed a basis of politic knowledge of the USA. I would highly recommend this book to ALL Americans, and many of the essays could be used for high school students.
Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. AOC is someone I did not know much about before reading this book other than her "headlines", but was someone I was interested enough in to read more about. However, that being said, I did not know it was going to be written by other people's perspective of AOC. I knew it was a bio, but having so many other people's thoughts/opinions made it hard to follow.
This book is a series of essays by prominent writers about how much they admire AOC. There is not new information offered about her. There is plenty offered by each writer about their own lives, stories, and how they connected to her vision. It is a good intro to Ocasio-Cortez if you don't know much about her and how/why she became a prominent Congresswoman. But to those who have followed her story and career, there is nothing much new or enlightening.
