DNF - did not finish. Will give another try in the future but could not get into the story at this time or the writing styl.e
**3.5 stars**
The Silence was an excellent listen on my long commute to work. Good mystery that I only partially figured out. Plus the characters are my age so the part at the beginning where Matt describes their favorite songs and groups from the 90s I completely identified with the characters at that point. This book definitely makes you wonder what you’d do in the same situation. And I loved the ending.
Recommend if you like tense thrillers with twisty endings. This was my first book by Luca Veste but I’d definitely read another.
Thanks to the author and publisher for the e-arc I received via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.sorry it took so long!
I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
I read this book quickly even thought it scared me a lot. It is so cleverly written and creepy. I would recommend this to people.
Another great read by a talented author. I was kept entertained until the end and hope the next one is even better.
The plot was kind of Stephen Kingish to me. I enjoyed The Bone Keeper a little better but still enjoyed the story. A little slow for me in the middle.
Reads a lot like a horror movie. Young friends go on a last fling camping trip but things are wrong from the very start and only get worse. They end up killing a serial killer but make the mistake of trying to cover it up. A year later the killing begin again. The book focuses on the burden of secrets and failing relationships.
This was more of a psychological thriller about friends keeping a secret and how they unravel. I didn’t really engage with any of the characters so I didn’t have any feelings about them. The writing style was good and I liked the plot.
Many thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Decent premise, but, once everything is set up, it just devolves into cardboard characters talking about their painfully shallow feelings for an insufferable amount of time. Oh, then the main character suddenly remembers that he knew what was going on all along. Mkay.
First fourth and last fourth of this book were well done. The middle half really dragged with all the drama. I was also expecting this to be as scary as The Bone Keeper was, but I was let down in that regard. Still, the writing was intelligent, the story complex, and I never guessed the ending. 3 solid stars.

Friendships. One last chance to party all together before marriage and families separate them for good. Witnesses of a murder. One of their own. Secrets that need to be kept.
A year later and those friendships have been tested. One of the six is dead and they all see each other for the first time at the funeral. Somebody outside the group knows what they did. Somebody told. Now their lives are in danger, who will be next?
Thanks to #netgalley for an ARC of this book. I loved the mystery surrounding all of it. Killing someone and then having the quick thinking to cover it up. I think we all do crazy things at times. Not sure I'd be able to go along with their decisions. Which you realize is why they all have issues from that night. A great mystery read. Makes you think about who you can truly trust. Fear puts a whole different perspective on reality.
Fans of mystery and childhood friendships will enjoy this book.
I'll be honest, I had a really hard time getting into this one. I wasn't really interested until almost 200 pages in. I considered DNF-ing a few times. I liked Bone Keeper quite a bit better.
I felt like there was a lot of redundant story in here. I did enjoy the ending though. I felt like the last 100 pages were such a whirlwind. Not at all what I expected! It still wasn't enough to redeem the whole story for me though.
I found this an enjoyable thriller. The book had good suspense with enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested. This is a book which I would recommend to others.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview The Silence by Luca Veste.
This novel takes the reader on a journey - six friends trying to capture their youth before they get into "adulthood". They go for a weekend trip to a festival that is supposed to be fun and a chance to reconnect. But an event changes their weekend getaway and they realize that things won't be the same - ever.
Quick read - Great beach book.

When I saw that Luca Veste had another book out I had to read it because I enjoyed The Bone Keeper.
We meet six friends that are trying to catch a little bit of their youth by going to a weekend music festival. On the last night of the festival, a terrifying series of events have them leaving with secrets they vow never to divulge to anyone. The actions of the night fracture the group and their relationships will never be the same.
The rest of the book is told in back and forth storylines of the time before the night in question and life after that night.
This story started out really good, lost my interest through the middle before picking up towards the end. The middle of the story was too much about the retrospections of one of the characters which, for me, made the storyline drag. The history of the friends does give us a look into their individual characters and the relationships they have experienced with each other and as a group. The pace does pick up towards the end and the conclusion of the story was not what I thought it was going to be, so kudos on keeping me in the dark!
"In the dark, anything is everything. A shadow becomes a monster. A whisper becomes a scream. Silence becomes fear. Yet there was always excitement lying in the darkness too. A sense of facing something and staring it down."
Six friends go camping while attending a concert. It was supposed to be a great time. It turned into a nightmare. In the night someone died. They agreed to keep the body they buried a secret. But now almost a year later, someone else is dead. Is the past coming back to haunt them? Did someone see what they did in the woods? Will their secret be too much from some to bear?
"You don't know what's coming. You can't do anything about it."
Although this was an enjoyable book, there was something missing here for me. I really liked the idea of the "candle man" and that six friends had to keep a secret. This almost had the feel of "I Know What you did last summer" for me to a small degree. For me, this book just wasn't creepy or scary. There is a killer here, but it felt a little predictable and was not a shocker at all. What I did enjoy was the exploration of the psychological effect of keeping such a secret and how it affected individual characters. Having said that, I didn't really feel connected to any of the characters so when one went missing, it really didn't pull on my heartstrings or have me worrying about the character.
If you aren't a fan of gory or blood and guts, you will be happy. This does not have that. This is more of a psychological book that has a serial killer. Again, I enjoyed the psychological effects of keeping the secret the most in this book. How the characters began to unravel as fear began to sink in.
Others are enjoying this book slightly more than I did so I encourage looking at those reviews as well.
I received a copy of this book from Sourcebooks Landmark and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
If only the whole book was as good and intense as the last 15%...
Three couples in their thirties, head out to a music festival to kick up their heels and relive their youth. As their trip draws to an end, a tragedy ensues and they end up killing a man, a man that looks to be a serial killer. They make an error in judgement and choose to cover it up. A year later, things are much different in their friendship, living with their guilt is tearing them apart. Someone else was in the woods with them, someone else knows what they did .... but who? Someone who wants them dead! The book starts out strong, but then fast forwards a year, little is said about that year. From that point the story tends to bog down until it hits the 85% mark, from there it because a fast paced thriller with a great ending, it could have been great!!
Where are my murderino's at? The Silence was an incredible read. It had suspense, a thrilling twist, and mystery all rolled into one book. Five life long friends who travel to a music festival together and stumble onto a murder in progress. The friends work together to evade the threat of the murderer and start on an adventure that will span a year. The synopsis immediately drew me in and I LOVED this book. I loved the friend relationships, I loved the writing style, I loved the ending. I highly recommend this read if you are looking for a creepy, serial killer thriller. Thank you to Sourcebook and Netgalley for my advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
Dark, twisty and creepy. I stayed up way too late because I couldn't stop reading. It drew me and the riveting action didn't let up until the last page. If you enjoy unraveling puzzles pick this one up. Happy reading!
Six friends moving on to the next stage of their lives - real adulthood - spend a weekend together at a music festival in the woods to close out their younger days. However, before the end of the weekend, they become entangled in a terrible incident and realize that their future is not quite what they expected it to be. A fast-paced thriller with a reliable plot line -- good for readers looking for a summer thrill.
