There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.
I initially chose this book for my son because he had an interest, but I ended up enjoying it more myself! I love reading and learning more about our ocean just like the scientists who work diligently to protect our oceans. Would definitely recommend to anyone who has an interest in oceanology-oceanography(?) :)
this was a really intersting read, I liked that the book and felt it kept the information fun and interesting.
Into the Deep by Christry Peterson is a lovely book about the importance of our oceans. The author gives a comprehensive overview about the "big picture", the marine ecosystem, exploration techniques and climate change issues. I would recommend this book especially for older kids/teens but also as an introduction for adults interested in oceanography.
As someone who studies Marine Biology, I loved this book! It was clear and concise and told a great "story" about how important the oceans are for our environment and why we should protect them. The pictures are a wonderful addition to an already great text. This would be a perfect book for younger people who want to learn more about the oceans and environment.
This book gives a great overview of many aspects of the ocean which relate to Earth's ecosystems and the future of the planet. It starts with the big picture (properties of the ocean itself) and eventually works its way to microscopic phytoplankton, coral, jellyfish, fisheries, apex predators, and technology that helps study these.
The information provided is a great introduction to ocean science for kids and teens, or even adults who want an overview of the ocean's vital role. I sometimes got hung up on the layout of the book, but the ebook version may be to blame for this. There are profiles on different scientists and projects, dark boxes of text with side information, and regular text, but the organization of them is a bit jarring at times. Some of the dark text boxes offer summaries of information from the chapter, but some give supplementary info. Having a summary box at the end of each chapter in addition to all the other dark boxes of text may have been helpful to keep the layout more consistent. Many direct quotations are also unnecessary and choppy and could have easily been paraphrased.
Overall this is a very informative, introductory read on the ocean's importance and the many efforts to protect it.
Into the Deep was a short, well-crafted piece of non-fiction literature on how important it really is to protect our oceans. Overall, the narrative was very well done and also written in an engaging and interesting way. This book really told a compelling 'story'.
I feel that this really should be required reading in schools -with it's discussion of important and real topics- and to way everything was said was in an understandable and pleasant manner.
I think that the author of Into the Deep: Christy Peterson really hit the right tone with the message on the importance of protecting the oceans (especially at this time).
This really is a well-written book, looking into oceanography and is as intriguing as hard-hitting and eye-opening.
I liked this book!! It was pretty interesting!! I liked the photos in the book!! Kids would find the the book interesting!! Received this book from Lerner publishing from netgally!!
I have always been curious about the depths of the ocean ever since I was a kid, so I was intrigued to take a deep dive into this book! This is a dive into everything ocean-related, providing a wealth of information on the oceans. It tells us so much about why we should care about the ocean.
It's well illustrated with color photos and drawings, and features many profiles of scientists doing all different kinds of work that is related to the oceans. It's incredibly thorough, well written, and sure to leave the reader with an impressive amount of knowledge about oceans and ocean life. I would say this is best suited for older kids, teens and adults looking to learn more about the ocean. I would say it's a little too information heavy for younger kids.
It's nice for kids learning and had very nice pictures in the books..I enjoyed reading it..
I got the book from netgalley and I am very glad I got to read it.
This book is a very detailed and informative book about why we should care about the ocean and teach us more thoroughly about ocean-detailed-stuff that we might not know, besides that it's illustrated with many different pictures and presents profiles of different scientists that have done something related with the ocean.
I would recommend this book to teenagers and adults (I think that for kids, this book it's too heavy on the information and they would get bored). It's really enlightening to get to know more about part of our planet (part that is very unknown even to the current days) and actions that we should take or not to improve the environment.
This is a very detailed book, complete with lots of illustrations which I want expecting. More suited to older kids and teens I would say, but a fascinating read
This is a deep dive (sorry, couldn't resist) into everything ocean-related for kids, providing a wealth of information on the oceans. It's incredibly thorough, well written, and sure to leave kids with an impressive amount of knowledge about oceans and ocean life. Best suited for older kids and teens.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
