In today's political climate, books like this are more important than ever. A wonderful resource and inspirational guide for young (and old) girls wanting to get into the political sphere.

We are living in an election year (in the U.S.) and a time when there is much talk about politics.  The author of this title hopes to inspire young women to aspire to political life  In order to do this, she gives readers biographies to read of women who are achieving good things; for example, the PM of New Zealand and Kyrsten Sinema closer to home.  There is also information on topics including what it is like to campaign.

The author is passionate about her subject and that passion comes through in this excellent resource.  As Joe Biden gets ready to name a female running mate, it feels like the time is now.  I recommend this book as a way to engage a generation in the political process.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest read.

IN GOOD HANDS by Stephanie MacKendrick has an extremely attractive, appealing and colorful cover. It also has an important message about "Remarkable Female Politicians from Around the World Who Showed Up, Spoke Out and Made Change." MacKendrick has split this book into parts and the first deals with The Journey, profiling roughly twenty women from around the world. Some names (e.g., New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, New York's Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Seattle's Mayor Jenny Durkan) will be familiar from national nightly news whereas other interviewees aptly illustrate the idea that all politics is local and would themselves be equally at home in front of the cameras in Canada, Israel, and so forth. The next part, called The Playbook, has a section on getting yourself prepared (making a personal support plan, developing resiliency, etc.) and another section called getting started with 12 points for developing a campaign plan, and the final section is devoted to a "deep dive" with links to additional resources on fundraising and policy positions. The tone is non-partisan and factual, definitely inspirational throughout. Given the recent New York Times article on how women leaders are tending to do a much better job of managing to combat COVID-19, IN GOOD HANDS should be of interest to everyone, but will likely appeal most to young women contemplating having a louder voice in the many issues society faces today.

Wow, really wow! This book was inspiring and powerful.
The book includes stories of women politicians from around the globe. Showing and proving that you can become successful, through struggles, cultural differences. This book is a must-read for young girls (and as well boys) who are interested in politics or want to get into politics.
You can become whoever you want to when you truly believe in yourself and do not listen to those who put you down or don't believe in your strengths.

In Good Hands we hear the stories of 19 women from across the world who are part of the political system in some way, and the stories of how they got there. It an aspiring read filled with stories of hope, courage and determination, with insight from across the political spectrum.

In Part 2 of In Good Hands we are provided we lots of useful resources and tools, which can be referred to time and time again.

While this book is aimed at young women interested in running for office, it is not limited to this audience. There are things of relevance for those young and old, no matter their career path and interests.

I feel this would have been further enriched if we had heard these stories firsthand. I’d be interested in reading something similar in the future, aimed at an older audience, where we hear the journeys in their own words.

In good hands is a non-fiction book about female leaders. It is filled with stories of women from all over the world who made a difference. I found it extremely inspiring. It does a great job of showing that you can succeed, even when everyone seems to believe otherwise. Even through struggles with sexism, poverty or religion these women did not give up.

As you can see the cover looks awesome, but the layout on the inside is very nice as well. I couldn't open it on my phone (probably a netgally issue more than of the book itself) but I read it on my laptop and it looked nice there. I really liked the pretty pages with quotes on them. The only thing I wish they would have added is pictures or drawings of the women themselves.

Another thing this story does really well is the writing style. It is written in a way that is very easy to understand for anyone. While at the same time it never feels simplified or childish.

So overall this was great. A book I’d like to look back at and reread parts of for sure. I highly recommend it.

This is a great resource for any young woman that wants to get into politics. The author gave overviews of well-known women that have been successful in politics, but also provided insight on how to become involved.
