The blurb and cover got me going.
But the story and characters were a bit bland and boring.
The smutty scenes weren`t as good as i had hoped.
Not much chemistry either.
This was a pretty good book. The story was well paced. The main characters were really exciting to follow on their journey. I hadn’t read this author before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was not disappointed!
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
I really enjoyed this book and the characters throughout this whole series. Although Fiona's character did fustrate me a little through the book i am really happy with how the book ended. This book is number 5 in the series and i honestly loved them all! This was my first time reading this author and i am a big fan of her now, i will most likely read all her other books. Her writing with the stories and characters was all something that i feel like not only me but other people can relate to on a personal level. I cant wait to see what the author does with the next book in the series.
Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC. I love this author and all she writes. She writes effortlessly and the story is always so easy to follow. Thank you for allowing me into your world
This book was okay. The writing is good, but I really didn't like Fiona and it made it really hard for me to get into and enjoy the book.
This is the first book of Ms. Leigh that I have read, and I cannot wait to read more! I absolutely fell in love with Fiona and Eddie. Fiona is an up and coming musician who's one night (weekend) stand with Eddie leaves her pregnant. While going on 2 international tours, Fiona will have to decide between her career and motherhood. The sassiness and no holds bar from Fiona as well as her vulnerabilities and insecurities made her relatable. Eddie's stubbornness and ethics made him irresistible. Fiona is Ying to Eddie's Yang. I did not realize that this was a series, but I anxiously look forward to reading all of te previous books. Thank you Netgalley for introducing me to a new author.
Wow-what a story, this book had me from the start to the end. I liked both of the main characters, Eddie Valenzuela and Fiona Frank. Fiona an up and coming singer in the business is finally starting to make it and is getting ready for her first big tour when the two of them meet. Eddie who has been around the music industry and books bands for clubs he works for knows she is a star when he hears hear sing the night they meet. Instantly attracted to each other they leave and spend the weekend together.
Fiona is known as the “Sin Girl” is good for hookups but not a relationship, though everything feels different from Eddie she has a tour she needs to get to the airport for. Eddie sees her running around his apartment Monday morning knowing something has changed with her but she won’t talk to him. Wanting to make breakfast for her she tells him she has to run. He is wanting her cell number and she says she will write it down. She leaves and he feels like something is wrong. Looking around there is no number later he sees her at the airport with some actor hanging on her saying that they are a couple.
Eddie works through his pain of losing her when she arrives back from her tour. She also as an extra special gift and the two of them must work together. Yes, she is still fighting Eddie on that as well, especially when he mentions the word family and wanting to be together. When everything comes crashing down around with her record label and others, she taught her friends she finds out who really are her true friends. She also finds therapy the only thing she needs to do now finds her love, Eddie. The end of the book and epilogue I would call it are really good. I found this to be a very good book and I liked all of the characters.
I voluntarily read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
This is part of a series but I don't feel I am missing anything and read this as a standalone
This is the first time I have read this author but wont be rhe last
Really enjoyed this - loved the story and character development - found this a great, quick read
Eddie works in the live music industry scouting talent. Fiona, aka the Sin Girl, has a goal to make it big playing music and her hard work is paying off. During one wild night out, Eddie collides with Fiona and he knows she's better than good. The two spend one sizzling week together and Eddie believes he's found Mrs. Right. Until she disappears leaving zero contact information behind. A surprise pregnancy brings her back to Eddie and he is ready to step up for her, but she's not sure what she wants.
I loved this book. I especially loved what a good guy Eddie was. Fiona has issues stemming from her past, but once she begins to recognize that and take steps to deal with it, I really enjoyed her. The two were able to form a great relationship. This was my first book from Ember Leigh and I intend to read the rest!
Thanks to NetGalley ad the publisher for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I guess I'm not sure what I expected from this story, but there were some impressive elements
1. Though this is part of a series, I didn't feel as if I was missing much by not being familiar with the other characters' stories in books #1-4. Plenty of times, books call themselves standalones, but the reader may feel as if they should've read the previous books to understand what's happening. It kind of ruins the reading experience when you jump midway into a book. I'm glad Ember Leigh figured out how to have another story exist in the universe she created without me feeling off-balance because of the lack of previous familiarity.
2. Even if the story is sort of formulaic, there were clear moments where you can see the author can write intelligently. There were some good turns of phrases that showed Ember Leigh has a poet's soul: "Fiona's voice weaved in and out of the music as though she was sewing the melody together."
Lastly, I wish I understood Spanish so I can comprehend the swoon-worthy murmurings from Eddie.
Breaking the Fall is possibly the final book in Ember Leigh’s Breaking series and readers finally get Eddie’s story. While I like the overall premise of this book, I did struggle a little with Fiona’s character. In fairness, she had many issues that needed professional intervention, but I also felt that Fiona made much more of some of these issues than was necessary. Overall, a decent story and a good wrap up with many of the original characters making an appearance.
Received ARC in exchange for an honest review
'Breaking the Fall' quickly became an unexpected favorite for me. I requested this Arc thinking it would be your run of the mill erotica; a short book that lacks any substance. However 'Breaking the Fall' was anything but. I was excited to find that it actually developed the characters and plot throughout the story, it was way more than just sex.
I loved watching the relationship between Eddie and Fiona evolve. From the first few chapters, you can practically feel the heat between the characters, and not just a sexual heat. We feel the emotional turmoil of Eddie after Fiona ditches him, we can feel for Fiona in regards to her past. We knew more about these characters than just what their favorite sex position was, and in my opinion, that makes any intimate scenes within the novel that much more powerful.
I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone, especially those who may not prefer this genre usually. 'Breaking the Fall' shattered the boundaries of traditional erotica and I will definitely be picking up more of this series.
This book and I didn't get along. It was a real struggle for me to get to the end - mainly because I had a real, serious dislike for Fiona. I didn't mind her career focus, I had no issue with her sexuality or prior level of promiscuity (your body, your choice). I had real, serious issues with how she treated Eddie.
At the start of the book she and Eddie have a 54 hour-night-stand. Even though his friends warned him about Fiona, Eddie obviously got all the feels immediately for Fiona. Fiona, also, seemingly returned those feels. But, she didn't talk to Eddie at all about how this wasn't going to be more than a brief fling. She should have set the expectations with him from the start. When she ghosted him - she was callous and carelessly cruel She knew he was expecting her to call - and even said she'd message him. He background of being mistreated and programmed to not trust men - didn't give her the basis to pre-emptively mistreat people in return. It is one thing to go into a one-nighter with both parties having no expectations - but a whole other thing when no expectations are set.
This unfortunately sets the tone for the rest of the book. Eddie is clearly a good guy with strong family ties and a desire for a relationship. If Fiona and Eddie had talked - I think both of them would have seen they were on widely different ends of the spectrum - despite their serious chemistry.
Overall - I was pretty sure the only reason Fiona felt Riley was the only one in her corner, who believed in her, was that Riley was the only one Fiona trusted at all and didn't pretty seriously mistreat.
Fiona isn't a bad person - and she does come around by the end of the book (or at least we are told she does - with the help of some quality therapy) - but I'm not sure she really redeems herself.
I probably should have skipped this one - because a surprise baby is my LEAST favorite trope in all of romance. I also find it interesting, always, that the heros in surprise baby books are usually really clueless as to their legal rights - as are the mom's of those babies. Fiona has this idea that Eddie is going to be a distant coparent - which is not a rational thought based on what he is telling her. I am guessing, had push come to shove and Fiona hadn't realized how she felt about Eddie - Eddie could have easily taken her to court for split custody. Given her label created image - the conservative courts might have even been inclined to have Eddie be the custodial parent. Not fair - but a true reality.
Overall - this book just wasn't for me.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all (obviously) my own. I'm sorry I don't have more positive things to say!
It's a long journey from Sin Girl to Loyal Girl:
Fiona and Eddie have an instant attraction and connection but there is a problem. Fiona not only doesn't believe in relationships, but she is also contractually obligated to avoid them. She has portrayed herself as The Sin Girl but also personally has a lot of insecurities and is terrified of being rejected and hurt, so closes herself off. Thankfully Eddie is patient and persistent in his pursuit of Fiona.
There was a lot of angst and drama and for the vast majority of the book the main characters were apart or unhappy. There were a few steamy moments but overall the tone of the book felt a bit too melancholic to me. I could empathize with Fiona having hurts that made trusting in love difficult, but I would have preferred a few more lighthearted and tender moments to break up all the angst.
This is book 5 in the Breaking series but can definitely be read as a standalone. I had not read the prior books but was able to follow along without any difficulty.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
Unfortunately, I had a really hard time getting into this book. I’m not sure if it was the writing style or what, but it just didnt seem to flow for me. The base story was good, but it just couldn’t seem to keep my attention
4 1/2 Sin Girl Stars!
I’ve been waiting for Eddie’s story since the first book. I wanted to see how this over protective older brother would handle falling in love. And I wasn’t disappointed!
Fiona ghosts Eddie after their one-night stand and goes out on tour as the rock chick “Sin Girl”. Three months later when the tour is over, Fiona fears are realized ... she’s pregnant with Eddie’s baby. Eddie is ecstatic that Fiona is back in his life and he couldn’t be happier that she’s carrying his baby. He is a born protector and now he’ll have his own family to look after. But it’s been drilled into Fiona since she was little that you can‘t rely on a man because once they get what they want from you, they leave. Will Fiona give Eddie a chance or will her instinct to run win?
I loved Eddie and Fiona’s story ... a little flip from the usual rock star story with Fiona being the rock star. And Eddie ... what a dream ... who wouldn’t want a strong, protector in their life? I love that Ms Leigh brings in the characters from previous books quite a bit ... it’s like their stories continue. A great addition to the series!
I received an copy courtesy of Backlit PR through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
ARC received for review
Back to the original peeps for this book. Eddie is Amara's brother and due for his HEA. Loved Eddie, but Fiona sure did get on my nerves. She needed a therapist a whole lot sooner than she got one. The past did a number on her, but I didn't see it as being as bad as she did. Loved seeing all the old peeps again.
A charming rock romance book about Eddie and Fiona. Smoking hot love scenes and relatable groupie love . I was happy this book didn't end with a cliff hanger.
3.5 stars
I did actual finish this book. I read it fully until about 40%, then I started skipping around to the end. I thought it started off good. I did. It just didn’t keep my interest.
Overall it was a decent story with likable characters.
I was provided with a copy of Breaking the Fall by Ember Leigh in exchange for my thoughts on the book.
Breaking the Fall is book 5 in the Breaking Series. I have not read any of the other books in the series and found that this book could be read as a stand-alone. If you need some additional background information from the previous books it was provided to you. This book follows Eddie and Fiona. Eddie seeks out artists to book entertainment for the clubs he works at. At the recommendation of his friends, he goes to see Fiona play.
Instead of approaching her for her talent, it turns to instalove, which I don't mind too much but this just seemed too much too fast. They spend a number of days locked away together, and poof Fiona is gone without a word. The book goes on to tell us how they find their way back to each other.
I found that they were both overly forgiving. They both act like jerks at times and I didn't find either of them very likable. We never get any kind of explanation as to what exactly they need to overcome as far as past baggage goes. We're just told one of them has been through things and we must accept that as an explanation of the actions of the main character.
