A great installment in the Kelly Porter series and brave to centre it around gang violence. It's a gripping read and full of tension.

A great, thrilling read, which will keep you entertained throughout. A good one sitting read, get the nibbles ready, close the door, and read!

The book is well written and plotted and while the reader learns early who did the killings, it was interesting to read about their background and just why they felt they were obliged to commit the murders.

"Ella Watson filled the drum of the washing machine to bursting." - LITTLE DOUBT BY RACHEL LYNCH

A woman is out jogging in the park when she is brutally stabbed and killed, before long a second murder takes place and DI Kelly Porter is responsible for trying to find justice for both the victims. However, there are many more things at play and it’s not just the criminals that Kelly is working against.

Like the rest of the DI Kelly Porter series this book was absolutely fantastic, and I was hooked by the time I was about 1/3 of the way through. I did find this book was quite hard to read at points, I think when I first starting reading this in June there were parts of the storyline that just felt a little bit too close to home, a little bit too real for right now and some of the things that featured in the book made me quite angry. I think the injustice that Rachel portrays in the story is very real and I think that is what got me so angry, especially recently with the Black Lives Matter movement the idea that the rich ‘proper’ woman’s death was worth more time more resources and is somehow more important to solve than that of the young girl from the dodgy estate just fills me with rage quite honestly, and disappointment in the human race I would go as far as saying it hurts me to think that there are people in positions of power whojudge which life is worth the manpower, the resource and the expense of investigating what happened to them versus another person. That someone is somehow more worthy of justice than another based on the colour of their skin or their background.

That said as always Rachel’s writing is gripping to read as always. The plot grabbed me with both hands and wasn’t prepared to let it go definitely as I reached probably the final third of the book the tension Definitely racked up a few levels I think that one of the few things that kept me relatively relaxed about everything was the fact that I’m reading this book little later than I’ve read most of Rachel’s Kelly Porter books in terms of their release and I already knew that an eighth book was written and on its way.

One of the things I love most about Kelly character is that she is always very determined to do the right thing even when she has superior officers threatening her into prioritising Ella’s case she is still determined to find justice for Kira even when she’s not entirely sure what that determination will mean for her career. One of the other things I loved most about this book was seeing more development of the private side of her life her interaction with her father with her half-sisters and especially with Johnny and Josie. I really love how far her and Josie have come in their relationship so it was really nice to see that familial bond between all of them shown in the book it was a nice counterpoint to her a lot of the tragedy and the injustice that surrounded the main case in the story.

I don’t want to talk too much about some of the other characters within the story to avoid giving away any potential spoilers what I will say is that Superintendent Ormond is the main focus of all of my anger within this book, I know from finishing the book he had has particular reasons for wanting the focus to be on Ella’s murder but the way he treats fellow human beings and Kelly just frustrated me. Newsflash guys he’s not a very nice person.

Final Thoughts…
Once again Rachel Lynch has produced an absolutely wonderful instalment in the DI Kelly Porter series I think her writing goes from strength to strength and I really love not only the individual cases that are portrayed in each book but also the character and team growth that I’ve seen as the series has progressed. There is a fairly major development at the end of Little Doubt, and I am very excited to pick up the follow up Lost Causes and discover how that is dealt with.

Another great Kelly Porter book, full of intrigue and dark secrets. A gritty police procedural dealing with the world of gangs on estates and the power they wield. There is also corruption among the ranks but Kelly has no idea how powerful her adversary is. An enjoyable read.

The characters are realistic, although the story is far fetched in places spoiling the story slightly.
Yet another good read from the author Rachel Lynch.

When Ella Watson, a wealthy lady is stabbed in a random attack in broad daylight whilst jogging in the park DI Kate Porter is assigned to finding out who and why carried out the attack. A second victim, Keira Bradley is stabbed the next day but she is from the gang run Beacon Estate, and Porter has to establish if they are linked and run them both as equally important.
Her boss has a different view and almost appears to want to ignore Keiras death completely and starts disrupting the investigation to just focus on the Watson case.
Porter knows something isn't right and has to work out who on her team she can trust.

This is book 7 in the Kate Porter series and whilst there are some references to previous cases, it can be read as a standalone story. Its not fast paced for a police/crime novel and does plod quite slowly at times. The story allows you to feel for the families but you don't get to connect with them too easily.

A great read though and look forward to reading the next instalment.

Some places make their own laws…

When Ella Watson, a woman of wealth and status, is brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight it sends a shockwave through the Lake District community. Later that day, Keira Bradley meets the same fate. But whereas Ella’s murder is a tragedy, Keira’s death on the notorious Beacon Estate is just another statistic in a dangerous place.

DI Kelly Porter has the unenviable job of running simultaneous investigations. Her efforts aren’t helped by a boss driven by protecting his reputation and a housing estate where fear rules and no one dare speak out. Kelly knows the answers can only be found by winning the trust of the residents at Beacon Estate. A task so hard it may be impossible.

Kelly puts everything she has into finding justice for both victims. The only thing she hadn’t anticipated was a traitor in the ranks. When the evidence points to someone in her team, Kelly has to put feelings aside and work the case – no matter where it leads. By the time it is over, nothing in her world will ever be the same…

A dark and gripping police procedural for fans of Patricia Gibney and D. S. Hood.

I have previously enjoyed the other books in the Kelly Porter series and this one didn’t disappoint either. Great plot, great characters, another great instalment. I would definitely recommend

Wow, there is no other word I can use to describe this book, or even this series. I read a lot, and it is seldom that I get a series, or an author that I grab first in my never-ending To Be Read pile. And without any doubt Ms Lynch is that author.
I love the way Kelly is portrayed as this awesome, competent and kickarse detective, but also with so much human compassion and trying to balance a personal life with a very demanding work life.
There is a character in the story that I'm personally happy to be rid of, but another one leaving that I will miss in future.
The book was well written, and the very very last line was the best! (no spoilers I promise!!)
Highly, and I mean it, highly recommended.

The latest episode of Rachel Lynch's excellent "DI Kelly Porter" series did not disappoint. Although it's part of a series (and a thread or two is resolved here), there's enough background on the main characters to make it work as a standalone.

The series is set in the beautiful (if at times forbidding) Lake District - this time most of the action takes place in an unpleasant-sounding estate. Many of the characters are either criminals or dancing around the edges of that world, which makes for a gritty plot. In some ways it's dispiriting to think that the behaviour of some of the residents is reflected in similar settings around the UK, but there are rays of hope when the wider community comes together to try to change things in response to the grief of two bereaved families.

An excellent and gripping read. Already looking forward to more by Rachel Lynch.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. Opinions my own.

Quite enjoyable ...... good start to the book to draw one in..... familiar characters from previous books in the series adds to story. Bit too long and drawn out and I aspect of the story dies not seem feasible.... nevertheless wanted to finish and get to the bottom of it!

A fascinating book that keeps you interested and involved from start to finish. Aspects of the story concerning people’s behaviour and their reasons are concerning and at the same time believable. Recommended to those who enjoy reading this type of detective story.

The latest DI Kelly Porter book delves into the dark world of gangs, knife crime and drugs. When a well to do lady is stabbed to death in broad daylight in a park, everyone reacts in suitable horror. Immediately afterwards a girl from a rough estate nearby is also murdered. Is her life worth the same? Could the murders even be connected? As Kelly and her team investigate both they find themselves in an evil world that even shocks them as more crime than they could have imagined is uncovered. In a difficult setting where silence is expected, uncovering the truth is no easy task. Another fast paced story from Rachel Lynch that shocks and gives hope in equal measure. Kelly is a likeable character, as too are her extended family and some colleagues. These relationships enhance the storyline and I certainly can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Skilful but strangely distanced crime story - a wealthy woman, who we unaccountably get close to in first section - more than the cop after her, in a newish position, whose superintendent is deeply involved - she’s killed before out eyes, and the hunt is on - especially when another woman is killed in an estate ... in an impossible position Porter begins to discover that there is more to this right in her precinct than she’d thought - violence erupts and things get too conflicted ... despite some over-explication and a coolness, this is intelligent police procedural. Never really took off for me though.

I love this series by Rachel so was really looking forward to this book. These characters are so good together as is the setting. Two stabbings keep the detectives looking for the culprit but all is not as it seems, why would an upstanding civilian be stabbed, there is no reason. This keeps Kelly on her toes to keep looking deeper but what she finds is a shock. Brilliant story and can't wait for the next one. My review will go out on the 24 April I am sorry for the delay due to Coronavirus.

Another good read in the DI Kelly Porter series. At least the third one I'm reading.

Well written and engaging from the start. Interesting storyline with suspense, good characters, good pace, well developed.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
