I loved this book! The author did a great job laying out the storyline of a young man, Dom, pining over "the one that got away." The twist was after seeing his x-fiance 10 years after the split, a "Groundhog Day" scenario began where he watched her die and couldn't save her. So many questions he kept asking himself-am I nuts? is this karma seeing her after so many years? why can I not save her? The ending did have a twist and a sense of peace for all of the characters. It made me question-what is really a happily ever after ending? This book won't disappoint!

This Groundhog Day - like story had me gripped! Each day I wondered if that would be the day Don would figure out how to save Mia. A beautiful and emotional romance built on feelings of regret and what-ifs.

The song from The Fray has been running through my head since I started reading this!

This felt like a romantic version of "Final Destination" and I am so here for it. I wish it had gotten off to a faster start but upon finishing, the start was a great way to begin the book even though it isn't my personal taste.

Thank you to Net Galley for the free digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Love this story! This is the second book by Liz and Lisa I’ve read and I am in love with their writing style. The book is an amazing love story. Surprisingly, even though the novel repeats the same day throughout most of it, the content never gets old. A true page turner with a fabulous ending! 5 stars!!

Recommend? If you're in the mood for heavy, yes. This is not the romcom that "Groundhog Day" was.

It took me awhile to get into this one, and I almost DNFed it at 40%, but I'm glad I stuck with it. This story follows a man named Dominic as he lives the same day over and over, Groundhogs Day-style. The kicker is that at the end of each day, the woman he's in love with dies in a different terrible, tragic way. Each morning, he wakes up to the same alarm and plans a way to try and save her. The book is heavy but fast-paced, and I only guessed part of the ending, which is a good balance IMO.

There are two reasons I almost put it down. First was that the main character was a little pathetic, but all his problems were brought on by his own acts, and I felt no sympathy for his situation. I could relate to him more by the end of the book, but I struggled to stay inside his brain for a good chunk of it. The second is that reading about death is never easy, and this book makes you do it over and over and over. I also realize that I read this book in the middle of a pandemic, which could have made those two things a little less tolerable. If you don't think those things will bother you, absolutely read this book. There are some great lessons hidden in the sadness.

Dominic made a mistake 10 years ago when he broke off his engagement to Mia. He has known it for years. So when he sees Mia walk into a coffee shop in town, he feels as though fate has intervened to bring them back together so that he can make things right between them. He manages to convince her to go on a date with him. What follows is a Groundhog Day scenario. Dominic relives June 11th nine different times, only Mia dies after each day!
Yes, this was a shocker at first. I hadn't read the synopsis before I began reading. I just dove right in. I was anxious to find out how things would change each day. When would June 12th finally arrive, and would Dominic be able to save his one true love on the final June 11th? The plot definitely keeps you involved and turning the pages. I loved the characters of Dominic and Mia. I never miss a book by these authors. You won't want to miss this one either.

I enjoyed this book for the most part. I liked the friendships that Dom and Mia had with other people. I felt it was mildly predictable with some turns here and there. I did like the growth the main character showed throughout his time loop. I hated his character at first, and grew to kind of like him by the end.
The timeline structure was a little off and unrealistic, but also I get it was for the purpose of the book.

I have read a couple of books in this format, and while I somewhat enjoy them, I feel like this one didn't hit the spot as much as I expected it to based on the synopsis. I expected there to be some sort of development across the days that Dom relives, but each one seems as reckless as he was the day before. The development he makes on the last day felt too sudden. At some points, it felt so irrational that I truly thought that at the end, it would be because he was in a psychiatric hospital reliving each moment because he couldn't move on. I was incredibly surprised that he woke up the next day when he did because I didn't feel like the story was going towards that direction. Even so, the book was well written and I did enjoy the book.

How to Save a Life is a heartbreaking, touching, emotional story about the power of love, second chances, and just how far you’ll go in order to save the life of the one you love.

This book will pull on your heart strings, and have you all up in your feels and emotions, much like the song by The Fray which this book shares the same name with. (because I know most, if not all of us, immediately thought of that song as soon as we saw the title of this book, and had the song playing on a loop non-stop in our heads while reading, am I right?)

This story is an emotional version of groundhog day, but it also brought another similar retake on the time loop storytelling to my mind as I was reading, a movie actually, one which always breaks my heart and gets the water works going for me and empties out a box of Kleenex. Does anyone remember the movie The Butterfly Effect aka one of my favorites movies ever? You know the one where Evan would repeatedly travel back in time in order to stop his childhood best friend/love of his life Kayleigh from dying, but by doing so would always just end up making things a hell of a lot worse? (I don’t care what the critics of Rotten Tomatoes or anyone else, for that matter says, about that movie, because its amazing and it’ll forever make me bawl my eyes out)

But anyways.

This book is an emotional roller coaster retake on the time loop scenario, this time revolving around two characters named Dominic and Mia who are the loves of each others’ lives, but fated to be continuously torn apart…by death.

Welcome to Dominic’s never ending nightmare, as he desperately tries to save Mia’s life, over and over again. How far would you go, and what would you do, to stop the person you love from dying? Is there anything you can do to control fate and what is meant to be? Even when it means losing the person that you love most in the world?

*cue the heartbreaking music*

After breaking up and reconciling, Dom and Mia finally have the chance to forget the wrongs of the past, mend their relationship, and start over fresh. But fate has other things in mind. Every morning on the morning of June 11th, Dom wakes up to the same day, the day that he gets to start over fresh and anew with Mia, going on their first date together in 10 years, only for her to end up dying. Each day starts over again, with a clean slate, as he desperately tries to figure out a way to say her life and get himself out of the time loop. But can he? Will their love story end tragically or will the two lovers get their second chance romance happily ever after?

Although (and without spoiling anything, at least I hope not) the ending was a bit predictable, and the book itself was a bit tedious (obviously), it still tugged at my heartstrings and left me an emotional wreck by the end, because I mean, how could it not? (And here I am, hearing The Fray song in my head again, which always makes me emotional.)

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a beautifully written story that made me laugh, cry, and everything in between.

If you’re looking for a tearjerker of a story, this one is definitely a good choice. I can see why this book is so popular, and its certain to be a hit when it hits bookstores this summer! I would definitely recommend it as a good beach/poolside read because if you happen to start crying, you can hide your tears behind a pair of big sunglasses!

What does it take to save someone’s life? Or rather how many tries?
Dom finds himself in exactly this predicament in How To Save A Life, having just recently ran into Mia, the-one-who-got-away ten years ago.
When Dom decides to take Mia on a date and she dies a tragic death, all seems lost.
But the he awakens to the same day, a chance for a do over. And again, and again, and again...

At first, I wasn’t too sure how many times you could get away with reliving the same day from the characters perspective, but I was pleasantly surprised with how the story was told. I found myself racing through the chapters, needing to find out if Dom finally found a way to save Mia for good.

A great read with a sucker punch of an ending.

A standing ovation for the newest collaboration by some of my favorite authors, Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke. When Dominic has a chance meeting with his former fiancé, he is given an opportunity to make amends for the past. However, he finds himself stuck in a time loop which forces him to relieve one day until he comes to terms with his past, present and future. This book takes the reader on an emotional ride as Dominic strives to become a better person who is worthy of redemption and forgiveness.
Just like all of the Fenton and Steinke books, How to Save a Life does not disappoint!!!

Dom is thrilled to run into his ex-fiancee, Mia, almost 10 years after he broke off their engagement. They have both grown up a lot while they were apart, but the spark is still there and Mia agrees to go on a date with him. Sounds like they will finally get their happily ever after!

Dom & Mia have an amazing date before it turns tragic - Mia dies in a freak accident. Dom will give anything to save her life. He wakes up the next morning to find Mia still alive and has the chance to live the same day over and over again but still each time she dies. Will he finally be able to save her? Will he have to sacrifice himself or someone else? I won't spoil the book for you - you'll want to read it yourself!

I tore through this book in record time. I could not wait to see if Dom would be successful in saving Mia. Plenty of surprises along the way!

I have read several other books by these authors and always enjoy them. I was surprised to see this one was a little different than they normal write. While I enjoyed it very much it was a bit more emotional and sad then I usually read. It was a surprising tear jerker. Love their writing style and story was good. Highly recommended. Thanks to publishers and Netgalley for the early release copy.

WOW! I loved this book and wish I could have just spent the entire day reading it. The story is reminiscent of Groundhog Day but keeps you guessing until the end. The characters are like able but not perfect. I would have liked to hear a bit more from the mother - definitely was a character! If you’re looking for a page turner that is well written - this is for you! Thank you so much for allowing me to read the e-galley!!

It was my first time reading a novel by these writers and I was pleasantly surprised. Dom's college sweetheart was the one that got away. After a broken engagement, no one else ever filled the void Mia left in his heart. Years later, they run into each other and plan a date. When tragedy strikes on that date, Dom finds himself reliving the day in order to try to beat fate. Will he succeed. Why has Mia come back into his life again? And why does he keep living the same day over and over? You'll be drawn in to find out just what the fates have in store for Mia and Dom.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up How to Save A Life, having never read anything by Lisa and Liz before. This book was so charming, and exactly what I wanted to read at the time.

Stuck in a time loop, Dominic runs across his ex-fiance, Mia ten years later and is trying to reconcile with the mistakes he's made and the things he is still holding onto from this relationship. At the end of every date, Mia dies no matter with Dom is able to do.

This was so incredibly sweet, and touched a lot of life, loss and regret, as well as a few social issues. I think this is an excellent summer read

This was my first book by Liz and Lisa and I am hooked. What a fun, fast and hard to put down book! A romantic spin that kept me turning the pages and before I knew it I was finished with this read. I definitely recommend checking this one out.

This was an amazing book! Focusing on a man caught in a time loop, this novel made for an interesting read. This is the type of book that would make a fantastic film.

Thanks so much to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley.

How To Save a Life, what a wonderfully fun but sad book. I love the way that this pair write and bring their characters to life. I do, and still do, have How To Save A Life by The Fray constantly stuck in my head when I think about this book. It is a story of love and friendship and discovering who you really are.

After 10 years Dom runs into his ex-fiancé Mia in a coffee shop. She was the one that got away and he never stopped thinking about her. He takes the chance and asks her out and she agrees. But on that date Mia dies. Dom is devastated and wishes that he could have saved her. When he wakes the next morning he realises that he is reliving the same day again but the same thing happens despite his attempts to change the outcome. He gets stuck in a Groundhog Day situation, trying to save Mia.

I love this book and high recommend. It made me laugh and it made me cry. Thanks to Lake Union Publishing and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read.
