This book was really something... it’s probably in the top 5 Of books I’ve read so far this year, maybe even the best. I t hit me hard emotionally, but in a good way. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.
When this book was hyped as Groundhogs Day with the same man reliving the same day over and over again I was skeptical but it turned into so much more than that! Loved this book and would definitely recommend!
Does fear hold you back in life? Do you frequently wonder if you did things differently would there be a better outcome? What if you could have another chance to live the day over differently? Dominic ran into Mia, a woman he was engaged to ten years ago, by chance in a coffee shop. He broke it off with her so many years ago and never got over it. He thought fate had intervened. He spoke to Mia and they promised to get together to talk. They got together and tragedy struck. Dominic was crushed but woke up the next day and realized it was not the next day, he was reliving yesterday! He realized the tragedy never happened yet and he could try to change the outcome. He learns a lot about life learning along the way who he really is. Does he like who he is or does he need to make a change? Could the life he learned to save be his own? Amazing book that really made me think about my life and what I would like to change. Seriously the book had the best opening line of any book I ever read! I laughed out loud and couldn't wait to read more.
First book by this duo and I am all in. I read this book in basically one sitting, only stopped to sleep. This book was so moving and had me emotional throughout the entire thing. Wonderfully written and I am so happy I read this.
What do you get when you combine romance, suspense, and a retelling of Groundhog's Day? How to Save a Life! This was refreshingly unique and surprisingly not repetitive, given that the protagonist is reliving the same day over and over again. Lisa and Liz are one of my favorite duo writers and their latest release will make you feel all the emotions!
Thanks to publisher and NetGalley for advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely devoured this! What a fresh and fantastic idea for a book... every page had me hanging out waiting on what would happen next Thursday. I don’t want to give too much away but you need to read to see for yourself!
I really wanted to like this book- the premise sounded good but.......... The whole Groundhog Day theme has been done. I saw the movie a few years ago with Zoey Deutsch. It was called Before I Fall and it was wonderful! This book was a baaaad copy. Childishly written and perhaps it was me and I’m too old for it. If the main character had cried any more I’d have put him out of his misery. Plus, however many chapters there were, it was way too long and repetitive. Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read his arc in exchange for my honest opinion. Sorry the book and my opinion wasn’t better,
I am not typically into novels with magical realism, but this story grabbed my attention from the first chapter and kept me intrigued until the surprising ending. You will go on an emotional roller coaster as Dom tries to rewrite fate and end the tragic day that he is living over and over. While it may seem that the story would be repetitive, the authors continually move the plot forward with unexpected twists and thought provoking questions about past life choices. Since we are currently living somewhat of a global Groundhog Day, this story seems especially relevant right now. This book will be published in July and is the perfect summer read! Thank you to NetGalley for the advance e-copy!
When you have so many regrets of the past, can you ever really live to have a future? What starts as a benign and fateful encounter between Dominic and his ex-fiance Mia in a coffee shop seems to be bursting with potential. This might be the delicious beginnings of a second-chance romance with the woman who got away. Just when he thought he'd have a chance to rekindle what was lost and regain his future, their date at a carnival fair ends in Mia's horrific death. In a twist of the Groundhog Day premise, Dominic is caught reliving the same day over and over. Is he doomed to repeat this day forever, watching his heart get torn apart watching Mia die repeatedly? Dom is determined to break out of it by saving a life—her life.
I'm definitely not accustomed to a solely male narrator, and his internal monologue was at first difficult to connect to. However, as the day repeated, I eventually began rooting wholeheartedly for this man. Each repetition of the day was not a boring rehash of events but a revelation, where new events and changed decisions branched into new understanding of the people in Dom's life and of his own past and current selves. In the span of just a day, albeit repeated, it's incredible just how much he transforms. Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke have triumphantly crafted a multi-layered personality for Dom, peeling away his fears and insecurities to reveal the ocean of the vulnerability and humanity underneath.
The writing style was simple, but the story still touched me deeply. It is a fast yet introspective read, if not a little too sentimental for my tastes. This book doesn't focus on the semantics or the technicalities of a time loop, focusing rather on his big and small relationships with his friend, colleagues, family, passerbys on the street, and ultimately, Mia. I truly came to care deeply for this man, who was once too afraid to live in the moment but gradually embraced the courageous and loving self he really was all along. A raw and emotional read.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was afraid this would be repetitive as some reviews suggested because of the time loop concept but I didn’t find that at all. Dom discovers new information each day and I loved following along to all the reveals. I loved this one! Make sure you have some tissues ready as well.
I am not typically a fan of these style of books but since I love Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke's books, I gave it a try. I was pleasantly suprised with how much I enjoyed it. I will admit that I had a hard time connecting to the characters and honestly didn't really care what happened to them. However, I did enjoy the book and found it an easy escape from reality.
These two authors used to write the best books. I would devour them in hours. But recently something has changed. Perhaps they be better off writing solo. How to Save a Life was almost unreadable. The writing was bad, the storyline was not only stupid, but I just didn’t care. I want their old writing back!
Dom is having a really bad day, one he literally can’t escape. When he bumps into Mia, he’s ex-fiance, he beleives they’ve been given a second chance and ask her out. When she dies in her date he makes a wish, a second chance to save her life. He wakes up the next day to find that she’s alive. But day after day no matter what she still meets a terrible fate.
This story was an emotional ride, it was heartbreaking, surprising and original.
I read the book in one sitting, I couldn’t wait to read what would happen the next day. I loved this book and all the feels throughout.
After reading the description and other reviews for How to Save a Life, I was hoping this book was going to move me, but unfortunately it did not. Having read two other books by these authors and being on the fence about them made me realize that I'm just not a fit for their books. By the halfway point of How to Save a Life, I was reading it just to finish and I did something I never do, I jumped ahead to see how it ended. I think I’m definitely in the minority with my thoughts on the book, but I found it very slow and I was not invested in Dom and Mia’s story and his attempts to change their fate.

For 10 years Dom has regretted letting go of Mia. One day, in an out of the way coffee shop, Dom spots her and it sets in motion a chain of events, that is unbelievable. He keeps reliving the same day over and over with the same result, only to wake up and start the day over again. Is he crazy? Is this his chance to finally tell her how much he regrets and that she's the love of his life? Can he save Mia? Is it Mia who he is suppose save? And how does he get out of this time loop he is stuck in? Everyday he learns something new about the people in his life, people he encounters and himself. I think the moral of the story is you can others but the only person you can save is yourself.
While I enjoyed some of this story, it was hard to believe. I kept expecting him to wake up out of a coma or have a some kind of psychotic breakdrown. I gave this 3 stars.
Holy wow was this book amazing!
It was a gut punch to your emotions at every turn, over and over again, but at the same time was uplifting and heartwarming in a way that made you feel good. Even though I started to see where it was going as I got to the end, I couldn't wait to get there. Liz and Lisa did a great job of telling a story of the same day played over again in a way that was different enough to keep your attention and want more.
I absolutely devoured this book and wanted more. I loved the setting and the characters and such a unique premise. Highly recommend!
Dominic thinks that he’s getting a second chance at love when he bumps into his ex fiancé, Mia, after a decade and he’s determined to make the most of it. But when she dies tragically on their first date, Dom finds himself reliving the same day over and over again, desperate to save her life.
I really Enjoyed this book. It was Such a creative storyline and I found that I was routing for Dom to find his happily ever after. With strong character development and turns that you won’t expect, the authors weave a story that keeps you guessing how it will turn out and it is quite a ride!
Meh. I thought the premise was interesting but found myself speed reading to see if anything exciting would happen. I didn’t really care for Dom, thought he talked a lot about wanting to be with Mia but also hating the impulsive way she acts.
Just like groundhog day.. This one pulls you in and gets better as the book goes on. What a great ending.
What a great duo to be writing together!
Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for an early release of this one.
When the love of Doms life comes back he does everything he can to keep her this time. From admitting his mistakes, to forcing Mia to be more vulnerable. The fair setting in the story is appropriate for the emotional roller coaster this story takes you on. An inspiring story about love, grief, and loving again. Learning to live life on a different way. Well written, beautifully told story. Liz & Lisa knock it out of the park again
