From her very first book to this book Danielle has been a master at story telling.
She brings her readers in and has them feeling her story, feeling the love, hate, pain, happiness.
She has been on my favorite shelf from day one and will always remain there.
This a solid mystery and thriller with a wonderfully complex cast of characters; an amnesic woman, a female detective surrounded by small minded men in a small town and a seriously sketch tavern owner who's more likely drunk than not. A series of seemingly random events unfolds but there's more to the story than those involved are willing to admit and it seems everyone has a secret ... or five. It's up to Detective Kylie Hilliard to put the pieces together, not an easy task but her investigation will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning pages. Fast paced and action packed, convoluted and baffling in the best possible way and, I'm happy to say, the first book in the Badlands Thriller series. I can’t wait to see where the author takes this series/characters.
I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
I loved this book! Thank you for the ARC. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that I wasn’t leaving reviews on netgalley and was solely sharing on Instagram. My apologies. Huge fan of this author! I actually received the tangible copy. Trying to clean up my netgally account.
so suspensful & i love how we just jumped right into the action. This was my first by Danielle Girard, but I'm looking forward to picking up more from her.
I felt cold reading this book. This was a great atmospheric procedural if you ignore all the rules that police are allowed.
I don't know what it is about 2020, but this the second thriller I pick up where I wonder who the author (or editor) consulted regarding police procedures. Both novels also left me with many unanswered questions. Very disappointing.
There was a lot going on in this book, but I was able to roll with it, despite a lot of it being very far fetched. It was twisty and mysterious, but not my favorite.
This was a really atmospheric thriller. I could feel the surroundings that were described to me throughout the book. However, it fell short of my expectations because it just seemed a bit unrealistic to me. Also, amnesia tropes are so overdone lately, and I have read too many to enjoy that trope anymore. Girard is a talented writer, and I will check out more by her, but this one was only a 3 star for me.

From the very first word, readers are caught up in the story. It engages the reader, drawing them in with the words creating a picture.
After surviving a car accident Lily Baker regains consciousness with no idea where or who she is. Scattered Bible verses and the image of a man lying in a pool of blood haunt her memory.
Detective Kylie Milliard investigates, unrevealing Lily’s dark past…if only Lily could remember what it was.
The storylines twist and turn and combine, revealing loss, fear, and love.

I like that the book has multiple points of view and it helped me follow the plot. It took me a while to get into but I did kind of get there about a quarter of the way in (maybe because I don't know anything about Dakota)? I liked Lily, but didn't really form much attachment to any character. I think the plot needed more work and less description in the writing sometimes. But overall, a good read, perfect for a rainy day!
I started reading this book and found that it was not for me. It didn't seem fair for me to review a book that I didn't finish.
Suspenseful and surprising this book throws you in every direction before the final page is turned. Girard is quite a writer.
This was an okay thriller, not sure I completely liked the plot and the twist was pretty predictable but I might give the author’s future books a chance if they sound good enough!
Definitely read if you love police procedurals! I love reading books where you are learning the past along with the character. Lily awakes from a car wreck and has momentarily amnesia. Almost every person Lily comes into contact with is some sort of reliable narrator. All of them being addicted to drugs and/or alcohol you can never tell which version is accurate. I did enjoy the different POV's but I was thrown off with the direction the book was going. I loved how it ended and how Girard chose to wrap it up. Some parts were really far fetched and just wouldn't fly in real life with detectives and police departments (well I hope not). Because of that, there were a few eye rolls. Highly recommend, but I won't be moving on with the series.
You can never go wrong with a Girard novel. This was a smasher for me. I was on edge the whole time. Thank you to NetGalley and the author and publisher for letting me read and review this book.
This was such a thrill to read! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I am so interested to check out more books by this author, She really knows how to weave a good story and an interesting plot and characters.
Great book. Highly recommend and will most defiantly read more by this author and suggest to others!
This book starts out like you just woke from a crash landing and takes off running! Lily wakes and she is in a crashed car and has no memory. There is a man lying in a pool of blood and bible verses scattered for her only memories at the moment. She makes her way to the hospital to find out they know who she is because she works there and that she also has a past having escaped from a serial killer years ago… plot twist! This is told from multiple POV with twists, fast-paced suspense, and intrigue! So many subplots dealing with murder, amnesia, and small-town secrets to name a few that a lot was happening in this fast-paced read! Thank you Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the copy to review and read!
This author was new to me and I absolutely loved this book. If you need an action-packed thriller/mystery, look no further. You will not be disappointed.
