Lily Baker has woken up in a car wreck with no idea who she is. She only has a few clues to help her figure out her true identity. In town, a woman is murdered and her body is thrown in a dumpster. Kylie Milliard is the only detective in Hagen, North Dakota, and she’s hoping to make a name for herself. Investigating both the accident and the murder, Kylie finds that both cases are linked by horrible incidents in the past.

This is a great procedural thriller. The book is told in three perspectives, so you get more than the usual procedural. The three perspectives had me flying through this story; a detective, a victim, and an accused man. I did guess some of the twists, but over all this was an impressively plotted thriller.

My only complaint would be that we didn’t get a lot of information on Lily’s past. Being the dark and twisted person that I am, I wanted to know more. It would have helped connect some dots, like why Lily has bible versus memorized. However, this is going to be a series 🎉🎉. So maybe we’ll get more? 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you’re looking for a page-turner staring a badass lady detective, you’ll like this one! Thank you to Danielle Girard and Netgalley for my copy.

I received a complimentary digital galley of WHITE OUT by Danielle Girard for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley, Thomas & Mercer and Danielle Girard for the chance to read and review!

WHITE OUT begins with a woman waking up in the wake of a car accident. She awakens next to a man she doesn’t recognize and she comes to realize she doesn’t even recognize herself. She has vague recollections of bible verses, other phrases and images, but she doesn’t even know her own name until she finds the name Lily on her ID.

Elsewhere a woman’s body is found in a dumpster behind a bar and she too is initially unknown. The bar’s owner Iver is suspected and due to migraines and drinking he isn’t entirely sure where he was when the murder occurred. Kylie is the detective on the case, though as the only woman she seems to have her work cut out for her among her male colleagues.

I really enjoyed this book and I flew through it even though I was reading this is the height of the COVID-19 distraction. We get the story from three different perspectives, Lily, Kylie and Iver and I enjoyed the different POVs. These characters have a lot of challenges against them and darkness in their past which is well portrayed as it colors their present.

The mystery at the core of WHITE OUT kept me hooked and the author managed to surprise me with several of the twists. Unreliable narrators can be a bit hit or miss for me, but I thought that the way these characters dealt with physical and mental trauma worked well with the story to keep me guessing.

I definitely recommend this one to the thriller fans and those looking to read something with some chills in the midst of summer! This was my first book by Danielle Girard, but I will be reading more! WHITE OUT is out on August 1, 2020!

Note: Blog and Bookstagram reviews will be posted closer to publication and links will be updated.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me a copy of White Out for a review. I did enjoy this one quite a bit and I love how much mystery there was to this story to try figuring out who killed these girls. It was a bit long in my opinion and dragged on forever to finally get to who the killer was which was almost towards the end but overall the story was good. There was a lot of suspense and mystery in this book and pretty fast paced.
One thing I didnt like though was all the characters. I dont like a book that has too many of them which this one had at least 3-4 for their chapters.
I definitely think though this book will be a big hit once it comes out in August.

After surviving a car accident on an icy road in Hagen, North Dakota, Lily Baker regains consciousness with no idea where or who she is. Scattered Bible verses and the image of a man lying in a pool of blood haunt her memory.

The same night of the accident, a young woman is murdered and tossed in a dumpster. Kylie Milliard, Hagen’s only detective, doesn’t immediately recognize the victim, but Kylie soon discovers that Lily and the dead woman share a dark past…if only Lily could remember what it was.

Lily and Kylie both want answers. But Kylie has to play by the book. Lily has to play it safe. And the more Lily learns about her identity, the more she fears the truth.

This was the first book written by Danielle Girard that I read, and I loved it. In this book, we are introduced to Detective Kylie Milliard an incredible character, this story is told from different POV and while each one of the characters tells their story Ms. Girard finds a way to perfectly blend all together to create this amazing thriller. It is filled with unexpected twists and turns. I really recommend this book.

Thanks to Danielle Girard for sending me this ARC and hope to read more of your work. Congratulations.

Incredibly creepy and gripping, from page one; Girard writes with the kind of cadence one desires in a story that gets up and goes in all the right places.

Fans of edge of your seat thrillers will love this.

This is my first Danielle Girard book and I can tell you that it won't be my last. White Out is the first of a new series following Detective Kylie Milliard in Hagen, North Dakota. I am all in for a strong female lead! The book opens with immediate suspense as Lily Baker has just survived a car accident and cannot remember the details leading up to that moment. Detective Milliard begins investigating the murder of a young woman found in a dumpster and the car accident that Lily Baker was involved in. The two events are linked and it's up to Lily to slowly piece together her memories and Kylie to solve the case. The novel is continually gripping and keeps you turning the pages with each chapter alternating perspectives. I highly recommend this one for readers who love the mystery/thriller genre as well as police procedural novels. Look for White Out August 1. Thank you to Danielle Girard for providing me with an advance copy via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I have a great thriller for you! I was lucky to receive an advanced copy of White Out by the best-selling author, Danielle Girard, and I am so happy that I did. I have just discovered a new author to love!
She has a backlist of titles that I am ready to dive into! This one won’t be published until August 1, but put it on your tbr, pre-purchase it, and get ready for a great new thriller I think you will love!

The book begins when a young woman, Lily, regains consciousness after a car accident on an icy road. With no idea who she is or what she is doing in the car, Lily just know she needs to get out of there.

That same night another young woman is murdered and thrown in a dumpster. No one in this small town seems to know her or what she was doing in a town that never has a crime like this.

A local bar owner, Iver, is deep in this mess and has no idea why. His past is haunting him; his past with Lily, his past with his ex-wife, and a darker past that has him questioning his actions the night this all went down.

A new detective in this small town of Hagen, North Dakota, Kylie Milliard, tries to make sense of it all, solve the murder and get out of town and away from the misogynistic men working against her.

Lots of great questions, secrets, twists and turns throughout the book kept me up most the night finishing it. I really couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters and the struggles they all went through just to get to the truth.

This is the first book in a new series for the author and I am excited that I will get to see Kylie and other characters again in
future books!

Thank you, @danillegirardbooks and Netgalley for letting me have an advanced read and trusting me to give an honest review. I know people will love this book as much as I did.

You will be hearing a lot about this one! I will be reminding you of it myself this summer!

This was my first book by Danielle Girard, and I was hooked from the very first chapter. The suspense only intensified after that. The seemingly random storylines worked together to build the mystery. I thought I had it all figured out...several times...only to have another piece of the puzzle revealed.

White Out is a fast-paced mystery/thriller that will keep you guessing right up until the very end! ❄️

This small town murder mystery book is impossible to put down, fast-paced, and keeps you on the edge. Just when you think you had it figured out another plot twist comes. This is my first book by Danielle Girard and will not be my last. I cannot recommend this enough, especially to those of you who love thrillers and murder mysteries. Thank you so much Danielle for reaching out to me and provided me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

#whiteout is definitely a contender for top 5 of 2020! Wow. What a brilliantly written book! And a great plot/storyline. The characters were like able and believable. This was my first book by Danielle Girard but it won’t be my last. This is definitely a 4.5-5 star book and it should be added to everyone’s TBR list.

*3.5 stars!
I want to take a moment to thank the author for reaching out to me to read and review this title. I must say that slow-burn thrillers aren’t my favorite in this genre and the multiple POVs were hard at times to follow, so I struggled with this one in the beginning. However, things soon picked up pace and storylines gained clarity. Last, but not least, let’s talk about those twists that the author revealed as this story winded down: they were mind-blowing! I did not see those coming AT ALL! You’ll definitely want to add this one to your TBR!!

White Out by Daniell Girard was perfect in its execution. The author did a great job of everything you’re supposed to do when writing a book and I was really into it!

First, the book starts with a heart-pounding scene. Imagine a car teetering on the very edge of a mountain. You are trapped in the car and one move can send it over the edge, killing you. As you try carefully to move, you fight your memories to determine what happened but your mind is blank. Your pants and shoes are wet. The man next to you is a stranger. You have clearly been in an accident. Are you hurt? Can you move? As you inch your way out of the car, it begins to dangle precariously…

And that’s just the first pages. Whew! This is quite a suspenseful novel and if you enjoy a true mystery/suspense with some police work, you should get this as soon as you can.

Lily has very little memory after being in a car accident with a mysterious man. She’s not sure about anything but she might be in some kind of trouble. Across town, Iver is waking up from a terrible hangover which was more like an epic blackout. He too is missing parts of his memory from the past several hours. When a dead woman is discovered in the dumpster outside of the bar he owns, he’s a prime suspect.

Kylie is new to town and is the only detective in the small police department full of men. She needs to prove herself and this case is her first. She must get to the bottom of who the dead woman was, what role did Iver play and how is Lily involved?

Synopsis:

The book alternates between Lily, Kylie, and Iver and let me tell you, there are twists and turns and dead ends and left turns the whole way through the book! I was glued to the book for hours as I read it. I know it’s going to be a huge hit with my fellow book lovers.

This book comes out on August 1! Pre-order here.

White Out is one of those books that hooks you from the first chapter and makes you wish you could stay in bed all day reading. ⁣

I really enjoyed the excellent character development- a factor that is often lacking in thrillers. I loved the backstories of Lily and Iver- especially the way Girard uses memories overlapping with present experience. ⁣The twists and turns were really well executed. I always hate when a thriller leaves facts or events left unexplained - but Girard ties White Out up in a neat reveal. So satisfying. ⁣
Overall, White Out is a fast-paced, razor sharp thriller that kept me guessing until the very end.

This was my first book by Danielle Girard and it was such a good one!

This book was so well written. The author set up each character perfectly, to where you couldn’t help but want to know more about each person and their past. The way this story unfolds is truly remarkable. There were several times throughout this book where I realized that my heart was racing, and there were even a couple of times that my jaw actually dropped. What more could you ask for in a book?! ⁣

I’m so glad that White Out is the first of a new series because I am anxious to know what happens next.⁣

White Out releases on August 1st, so make sure you mark your calendar now!⁣

Thank you so much @DanielleGirardBooks and @NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.⁣

A huge thank you to Danielle Girard for reaching out to me via Instagram and asking that I review "White Out." This is one of my favorite things about the Bookstagram community. This was my first book by this author and I loved it!!!
Told from three different characters’ perspectives, every chapter leaves you wanting more! The book starts with Lily who wakes up from a car crash only to find that she doesn’t know who she is, the driver in the car, or anything about her past. As the story unfolds, bits of her memory come back only to display her horrific past. ⁣
⁣Kylie is a new detective in a small city where everyone knows everyone. When a murder occurs in this dead city, she is desperate to solve the case to gain her chance to leave for bigger and better places. ⁣
⁣Iver is a war Vet who struggles with alcohol addiction and memories filled with regret. My heart soared for Iver as my husband is a war Vet who struggles with PTSD so I loved him. Lily could be his chance at redemption.
⁣This was a great book and I enjoyed every page of it.
Thanks again to the author and Netgalley for my advanced ebook copy. Put this on your August TBR pile!!!

March
The White Out
An attention-catching true crime story told from multiple points of view.

Detective Kylie Millard is on the case of a dead girl showing up in a dumpster outside of a bar. Bar owner Iver drank enough that doesn’t remember the night before, and Lily has amnesia and didn’t even remember her own name. As more details emerge, more questions emerge. There’s a lot of unknown- who killed the girl and what is her connection to Lily?

The element of memory loss created a different aspect of this crime. Not only are the police trying to figure out what happened, but so is the main character. Twists and ties of small town history are woven in throughout the book. Lots of characters, so it was a little confusing to follow at times. I feel like the ending scene needed a little more attention- it was the climax to everything and seemed to end so quickly. Possibly I just figured out the ending too late.

Overall, it was fast paced murder mystery / thriller that I enjoyed reading.

Thank you to Danielle Girard for sharing and allowing me to review it!

White Out is fast-paced, full of suspense and sprinkled with just a dash of romance. With a couple of seemingly separate mysterious story lines that slowly start finding their way toward each other, every chapter of this book keeps you constantly guessing. White Out is the first book the new Badlands series by Danielle Girard where we are introduced to Detective Kylie Milliard. This is the perfect series starting book that will make you anxiously anticipate Book #2. Every time I was sure I had figured out where things were going GIrard dropped something new in my lap that took the story in a totally different direction. This was my first time reading one of Girard's books and certainly won't be my last.

Thanks to Danielle Girard and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Lily finds herself in a car that has just been in an accident without any memories of who the man that was driving is, where they are or even who she is. Hearing echos of someone telling her not to trust the police she runs from the scene.
The body of a murdered woman is found in a dumpster behind a local bar.
Iver is the owner of the bar suffering from PTSD after his time in Afghanistan and suffering a bit of memory loss himself.
Kylie is the only detective in the small town with her sights set on moving on to a bigger city. First she has to solve the mystery of who the murder victim is, who killed her and what was Lily and Iver's connection to it all.
Fast paced and well written this one kept me guessing throughout. The characters are believable and fleshed out but with room for more development as the series progresses. I love strong female protagonists and Kylie fits the bill. Told from the alternating POV's of Lily and Kylie very effectively, the story builds with suspense and excitement that kept me reading way past my bedtime. I really enjoyed this one and recommend it to those of you who like a good whodunit.
