Just as I expected—Susan May Warren does not disappoint with The Heart of a Hero. I still haven’t read The Way of the Brave, and though I know the series is likely more enjoyable when read in order, I still enjoyed this second Global Search and Rescue book immensely.
Disaster finds former sniper and Navy SEAL Jake Silver and pediatric heart surgeon Aria Sinclair once again. Aria heads to Florida for vacation—just in time for a dangerous hurricane to bear down on the area. Of course, Jake cannot let her face it alone.
As the pair faces the challenges of the disaster, their story proves to be action-packed and exciting—with sweet threads of romance and faith. There is a lot to love about The Heart of a Hero, and I cannot wait to read more of the series.
Susan May Warren's second book in the Global Search and Rescue series. Fantastic author!
Jake Silver is an ex-Navy Seal who now works for Jones Inc. Jake is a hero-type who jumps into danger impulsively. He would gladly risk his own life to save another. He has a past. He blames himself for the loss of his younger sister-something that happened when they were kids. Maybe this is his need to rescue others now. He helped rescue Aria Sinclair on Denali. They got quite close there, but things ended rather abruptly.
Aria is a top-notch pediatric heart surgeon. Her career choice, also, stems from her past. Being born with a defective heart, and sitting alone watching the other children play was tough. She lives with the fact that she now lives a very productive, although very lonely, life because inside her chest beats the heart of someone near and dear to her. With that comes guilt.
Aria has barely just arrived in the Florida Keys when a hurricane strikes. Who, but Jake shows up to rescue her!
Loved this story! Action packed story with a happy ending.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Revell and NetGalley. I was under no obligation to write a positive review.
Jake met Aria in Alaska while saving her and her friends off a mountain. He wants more than just friendship but Aria is not ready for that. When he gets a text message from Aria while she is on vacation telling him she needs him and wishes he was their he jumps on a plane. What Jake doesn’t know is that she sent the text on mistake and know hw must save her again but this time from a hurricane and herself. Thanks to the author , publisher and Netgalley for the ARC copy.
Best-selling author Susan May Warren continues her action-packed romantic suspense series with this second book in her latest series.
In The Heart of a Hero, ruggedly handsome and equally dangerous Jake Silver uses his miltary skills as a part of Jones Inc. Rescue Team. He can’t forget He also can’t forget his memories as a Navy SEAL, or pediatric heart surgeon Dr. Aria Sinclair, whose life he saved on Denali (see The Way of the Brave). When he discovers Aria is in the path of a hurricane headed towards Key West, he can’t resist trying to rescue her, even if she thinks she doesn’t need him.
Aria dedicates herself to helping children with defective hearts, especially since she had a heart transplant. Aria drives herself to succeed professionally, and pushes herself to live the life her donor would have lived by engaging in challenging physical activities like mountain climbing. Both Jake and Aria are drawn to one another, but also to saving others. What happens when they are stranded on the Keys with no way off, and a Cat-4 hurricane is headed for them?
Reading The Heart of a Hero is like riding a roller coaster – one can barely catch one’s breath when the next sharp turn or big drop happens! Like Warren’s other books, this one has faith journeys, adventure, suspense, romance, AND realistic & flawed characters whose stories captivate the reader from the first page. Readers will be engaged until the very end, which includes a tease for the next book in this series, The Price of Valor, coming later.
Wonderful love story and who doesn't love alpha males? I have a huge group of Susan May Warren fans and they have been waited for this title to come in. It has been checked out continuously since it arrived and I'm glad it's being received so well.
Jake is great at what is he does a part of the rescue team Jones Inc including rescuing Aria. When he finds a chance to do at again as a hurricane is heading to Key West he does not hesitate. Aria though is not as convinced. As the hurricane comes close I liked seeing how they began to relate better to each each other and learned to overcome the barriers that brought them together, but yet apart the first time the met. I liked feeling like I was there as a part of the excitement and uncertainty that they had to go through as the story evolved.
I received a copy of the book to read, the review is mine;
Aria lived her life in order to repay her twin sister's gift to her - her heart. She always felt that Kia was the brave one, the one who lived big while she was the practical one who merely watched others live their lives. Whenever Aria showed bravery, she attributed it to Kia's heart. . .
Jake had the heart of a hero - he couldn't help but step in and rescue those in trouble. Yet he was certainly a wounded hero, suffering from guilt and nightmares for the things he saw and did in Afghanistan. He felt that he needed to atone for his mistakes.
Both Jake and Aria needed to understand grace. To realize that there is no way to earn it - by its very definition a gift is undeserved. Forgiveness freely given at the cost of sacrifice.
As these two weathered the hurricane called Lucy surrounded by those they had rescued, they fought multiple storms as Aria worked to save the lives of the people left on Key West medically while Jake attempted to keep everyone safe from those seeking to harm them. Susan May Warren described the hurricane vividly and realistically, making me feel as if I was there.
Other stories intertwined with Jake and Aria's story as presented here. Characters and mysteries from not only the first book in the Global Search and Rescue series but also from The Montana Marshalls are woven throughout. There was one part in the story where a character was referenced and it seemed like I should have known his backstory. But I couldn't remember who he was. It didn't necessarily affect my understanding of what was happening but I was a little frustrated, feeling like there should have been at least a hint of who he was and how he tied in.
If you enjoy high adventure and suspense, Heart of a Hero is a book you won't want to miss. The events in this story take place concurrently with those in The Montana Marshalls and I recommend reading those stories before these so you can better understand what is going on with the investigation Ham is doing here. And be ready for the conclusion to this series October, 2020!
Wow! I was captivated once again by the men on this highly trained, elite rescue team and how they have each other’s backs. At the same time, they struggle at having and maintaining personal relationships as they fight for balance with work, and haunting memories (of what if’s) and fears that threaten to take them out.
The author keeps readers on the edge of their seats with action and drama as Jake tries to help Aria once again battle with the forces of nature. I liked how the author gave readers a peek into these like-able, flawed and wounded souls. Both trained to run toward danger to help while others ran from it. I could feel for and understand the depth of emotions, and insight into their situation.
I also appreciated the natural spiritual thread running through out the story. I like when Jake’s father tells him, “Forgiveness is a moving target. You have to find it and tell yourself the truth every day, as declared in God’s Word. You are forgiven. Nothing can separate you from God’s Love.”…”Look at me Jake, “I forgive you. I love you. You are my son, and I would choose none other.”
Jake repeats it to himself, willing it to sink into his heart and mind, “You are forgiven. You are clean. You are loved.”
There are a few twists and turns that surprised me but nothing like the one that left me dangling at the end. Buckle up and hold on for a fun, electrifying, heart-felt wild ride. It will leave you desperately wanting more. Good news to readers it won’t be a long wait for the ride to end. Book 3 in this Global Search and Rescue series, titled The Price of Valor will be out in October 2020.
I highly recommend you read these books in order so that you’ll get the full impact of what this team has been through, goes through that bonds them together in each book. This would make a wonderful series for your book club. Each book in this series is packed with so much information to talk about.

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the second installment of Warren’s Global Search and Rescue series, and she did not disappoint. I was on pins and needles waiting to dive into Aria and Jake’s story back in book one. Aria just can’t keep herself out of trouble, and Jake just can’t help but rescue her. I highly recommend starting with The Way of the Brave before you tackle this book. I think you will appreciate it all the more!
Jake is the heartthrob hero you want in every good romance book. I was so happy to hear that this book followed his story because he is an easy character to love, and I was hooked from the first book. A former SEAL, Jake just can’t help but be the hero in all situations, but is he doing it because it’s who he is or because he feels he has to make up for his past?
Aria is a smart, gorgeous, and daring heroine that doesn’t need a man, but you’re so glad she starts falling for the one you’re rooting for! She’s all logic and practicality, but seems to keep finding herself in precarious situations. Will she follow her or the one her twin sister gave her?
If you thought it was all mush, think again! From natural disasters, close calls, shipwrecks, abductions, and a CIA hit list, this book is so fast paced it will be over before you’re ready! We also meet Ham’s daughter and begin to find out more about his past with Signe. The end is a real cliffhanger that will leave you itching for The Price of Valor, which comes out in early October.
Warren did a great job of diving into Aria’s pain and internal struggle to fall in love with Jake, as well as Jake’s burdens from continually making mistakes. While this is definitely a Christian fiction book, Susan weaves the inspirational components in so seamlessly that they never detract from the story. It all comes full circle in a beautiful tale of second chances, grace, and ultimately faith. This book contains some of Warren’s best writing. I definitely recommend it!
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley, but enjoyed it so much that I purchased it from Baker Book House!
Heart Of A Hero is a page turner of epic proportions and this story is quite possibly one of the most exciting reads of 2020 for me. Between the situation Aria and Jake find themselves in, in Florida, to the fireworks between them, this book was impossible for me to put down. I HAD to know how it was going to end and it had multiple surprises in store along the way. I really enjoyed this book, although there were a couple plot points I could have done without. I know why they were written that way but they weren't my favorite, I am really looking forward to the final book in this set and I really hope I am right about a particular theory I have from Heart Of A Hero. Time will tell.
The Heart of a Hero, Global Search and Rescue book 2, by Susan May Warren features former Navy SEAL Jake Silver and Dr. Aria Sinclair, a lady he had rescued before and for whom he would do whatever necessary to rescue and protect. When Jake learns that Aria is in the path of a category 4 hurricane, he knows he must do whatever possible to save her.
Jake arrives in the lower Florida Keys just as the storm is moving onshore. It is only by chance and his need to rescue a young and very pregnant woman that he discovers at the resort where Aria should have been, that he finds Aria. Aria and the women she has sought to rescue were also at the local, and deserted, hospital. Aria is working to save Mimi, the elderly owner of the resort where Aria had been staying. Her COPD and the stress of the storm were not helping as her breathing became more difficult by the minute. Mimi needed oxygen and Aria would see to it that she got what she needed.
As the group of 5 spent a scary night in the empty hospital as the water was rising, filling the first floor, and the winds howled, Jake and Aria opened up to one another, telling things only said in the dark. Through the next few days, they work together for survival and to defeat outside forces seeking to defeat them.
This is a story of survival. Both Aria and Jake are survivors and work diligently to save those in their care. This is an exciting story and I did find it hard to put down. I did enjoy it and do recommend it.
The Heart of a Hero by Susan May Warren is book 2 in the Global Search and Rescue series. Book 1 was a literal cliffhanger in Alaska. In this book, danger is around every corner in a hurricane in Florida. This book picks up right where the first book left off, and I really think it reads much better if you’ve read the first book already. I love all of these characters. Ms Warren created such deep, emotionally broken characters. The realities of war and PTSD really come through in her books along with the hope we have in Jesus, no matter what we’ve faced in the past. I highly recommend this book, and the series as a while. I can’t wait for book 3! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
I only got about 1/4 of the way through this one before deciding to look it up. Turns out this is book #2. That's not in the title so I didn't even think to check. While the story was good and I was interested, this is a series you should read in order in my opinion!
Number two in the Global Search and Rescue Series...I think I liked this one even better than the first!
Jake Silver and his hero bros are off Denali and back home for some R&R. When their mutual friend (and object of Jake's not so secret affection) Dr. Aria Sinclair is at a family BBQ, he mentions she should snorkel while speaking at a conference in Key West and gives her his number so he can make recommendations. What neither of them know is that a) she will text him a message meant for someone else which causes him to hop a flight to help, and b) that a serious storm is coming...literally and figuratively. The danger level is high, from both people and the hurricane. The conversational banter, the camaraderie, and supporting characters/secondary stories are excellent. This is also a great set up for the next book. I can't wait!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishers and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I’ve been impatiently waiting for book 2 in this series, and it was worth the wait. Book 1 was soooo good, and I was a bit nervous to see if the author could sustain the thrills in the next book. She did. Ms Warren is now on my must read list! I want to go back and read her catalog of books.
In book 2, we get the type of characters that I’d like to know if real life, mixed with the terror and excitement of a category five hurricane, and the skillfully written biblical references. I raced through each page, unable to set my device aside. Yes, this book is that good. Five stars!
Now, for book 3...I need it!!
This book was amazing. Warren has done it again.
I loved all the action and adventure in this book. Reading about category 5 hurricanes and tropical storms was quite the wild ride.
I really love the biblical truths Warren included in this book. She used one of my favorite verses: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you." and it was perfect for this book. I also loved the wise words from Mimi and also Jake's dad. The theme of unmerited forgiveness is strong in this book.
But don't worry, there is great romance too. It was great to see Aria and Jake reunited. I can't wait to see how book 3 turns out!
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
Oh my goodness, I could not put down this book once I started reading! Susan May Warren has done it again - she has written a book jam-packed with heart-pounding adventure, and romance and characters that you cannot help but love! "The Heart of a Hero" is the second book in the Global Search and Rescue Series, and you definitely want to read the first book before this since the story continues on and references what has happened before, plus it is another great book! Also, characters and the story line from Susan's Montana Marshalls series is referenced as well and tied in nicely, so I highly recommend you read that series first (it's 5 books but you will fly through them, they are so good!).
What really stood out to me with "The Heart of a Hero" is how deep the reader gets to know the characters. I felt like this one really dives into the characters' hearts (just like the title says!) and we really get to know who they are and what has happened in their past to make them who they are today. I loved that not only did we spend more time with Aria, Jenny, and the boys, but also we got to meet Jake's family, and spend time at his family's home. This really helped to see who Jake really is and the hero shoes he feels like he needs to fill, and in all honestly, that is a role that he fills so nicely! The intense situation of being caught in a tropical storm and having to deal with the destruction, but also the medical issues added so much tension to the story and I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. Also, the situation with Aggie really intrigued me and I love how that played out and wow - what a cliffhanger this book ends on! I am so looking forward to book #3 coming out this fall!
Another Susan May Warren hit! After meeting Jake and Aria in book one of this series I was intrigued to see how their story would play out!
I loved the way the author had most of the story take place in one location while constantly having things happening that had me on the edge of my seat! Just when you thought things might be getting under control, a new wrench would get thrown into everything!
I enjoyed seeing Jake and Aria’s relationship grow from where they had left things in Alaska, though Aria’s constant hot then cold way of handling things got a tad frustrating at times! In the end though it was good to see them work things out and find their way back to each other.
I liked the little bits of Ham’s story that we got-I love his character-and after that ending I am chomping at the bit for his book! It was also super fun to see Chet Stryker pop up, as well as the mention of Luke Dekker-finally bringing in the Missions of Mercy series! Also the brief mention of Will Masterson from my favorite Team Hope book made me smile! Love having all these series connect!
Susan May Warren's latest high-paced tale is entitled, Heart of a Hero. You will yet again encounter Jack Silver and Dr. Aria Sinclair on the pages of this book. The last time they meet they were attempting to climb Mt. Denali in Alaska; however, now you will find them fighting against a category 4 hurricane along the shores of Key West!
You will meet a group of new characters in this tale, as they are all attempting to stay alive while trapped in a hospital being pummelled by wind and rain. Yet again, Aria and Jake will struggle with pain from their past as they try to forge a future!
Hold on to see if this future will have Aria and Jake doing life side by side!
The Heart of a Hero is the second book in the Global Search and Rescue series by Susan May Warren. I'm a huge fan of books that come in series - especially from authors I enjoy. Although you don't need to read the first one in order to follow this story line, I would recommend it. It will give you insight into the bits of backstory that are sprinkled throughout the pages.
You can expect a lot of action and adventure with the main characters being a retired Navy SEAL and a pediatric heart surgeon. Then mix in a category 5 hurricane in Key West and you get a page turner. This read will keep you on your toes with the adventure and action around every bend. Susan May Warren always does a great job of blending faith, suspense and romance. You will find all of those within The Heart of a Hero. The books ending sets up the next book in the series The Price of Valor.
