The Heart of a Hero is the second book in Susan May Warren’s Global Search and Rescue series and takes readers to the calm and inviting waters of the beautiful Key West, for what should have been a relaxing retreat and much needed chance revive her exhausted soul. But as a hurricane bears down on this normally tranquil oasis, Dr Aria Sinclair realises she should have stayed at home.
Readers met Jake Silver in book one, The Way of the Brave, and while this story continues Jake’s story, only now as the primary character, it can be read as a standalone. Personally, I highly recommend reading both novels for maximum enjoyment, as there are many characters who make frequent appearances in both books and will likely have their own stories down the track.
Jake and Aria’s story is a second chance romance, as these two professionally driven individuals put past hurts and regrets aside to fight together for survival under extraordinary circumstances. Jake is a character you can’t help but love with his deeply loyal and charismatic personality and his emotional baggage he refuses to let go. Action and danger, sassy banter that will make you laugh out loud, and some deeply heart wrenching moments that will bring you to tears; this story has it all.
The Way of the Brave is a fabulous, edge of your seat read that I’m sure readers will devour in one sitting. Susan May Warren is definitely at her best and this story is recommended for readers of action-packed, adrenaline-fueled contemporary romance.
A Heart of a Hero is one of Susan May Warren’s best books so far. I loved the action and the interaction between the two main characters. I enjoyed the book from the beginning to the end and miss reading it. An added bonus was the humor in their sassy comebacks to each other.
The story is about Aria, a surgeon and Jake, best described as a hero. They met when he rescued her on a mountain but that wasn’t the last of the danger. There are hurricanes, evil people, and rescues again and again. You met some wonderful characters in the process.
I would recommend this book for a good read. I was given a copy by Baker Publishing but the honest opinion is my own.
This is the second book in the Global Search and Rescue series and even though I didn't read the first book I have since purchased it because I enjoyed this one so much This is a action packed romantic suspense that draws you in and keeps you engaged until the last page The characters in the story are so normal with their damage and fears that you can't help but love them. I sincerely hope there will be more books in this fun series
Jake and Aria have history together I believe they met in the first book "The Way of the Brave" but they went their separate ways but now they are both in the same place at the same time and danger in the shape of a hurricane will test them Jake is the quintessential fun gut always ready for a laugh or to tell a joke but he uses that to hide the insecurities buried deep inside him. Meanwhile Aria has her own battles to fight she feels guilt over the death of her twin and that her twins heart gave her life maybe this is why she became a pediatric heart surgeon With both of them having to fight for their lives as a hurricane bares down will they realise just what they mean to one another
I have never been in a hurricane nor what to, but Susan May Warren in her newest release The Heart of a Hero definitely captures the danger and thrills associated with being in one. The action starts in the first chapter with readers starting to empathize with Aria, a familiar character, from The Way of the Brave. Just like the story heightens its tension, Warren captures the heighten emotions and feelings of Jake and Aria. I really enjoyed the fast paced novel. The story kept moving forward, and when I thought the story was about to have a break in the tension, Warren wrapped the characters in deeper trouble. Definitely a book for the keeper shelf. Can't wait to get my hands on the final book in this series The Price of Valor.
I received a complimentary copy of The Heart of the Hero by Susan May Warren from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.

This is a new author for us at our library. Our younger ladies were constantly asking for Susan May Warren books and we now have many of them on our shelf.
This was a great read and I know I will recommend it often.
Thanks to NetGalley and Revell for the ARC.

The Heart of a Hero continues on the Global Search and Rescue series and Susan May Warren did a fabulous job of getting me roped in and not letting me go. The action was non-stop and I really, really enjoyed Jake and his growth through the story. Aria’s character was ok but at times I found her frustrating to read through her POV sections. Overall though it was a great read and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
I was provided with an electronic ARC through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Susan May Warren is truly a master at creating stories that keep the reader glued to the page, and The Heart of a Hero may just be one of her best to date.
I hadn't personally been a huge fan of the first novel in the Global Search and Rescue series (The Way of the Brave), but I'd really enjoyed Jake, Aria and Ham as characters, and I was looking forward to reading on in the series to hear more about them. This particular title gives the reader Aria and Jake's story, and I could barely bring myself to put it down once I started it.
Jake and Aria's relationship had a bit of a troublesome start. They met when he came to rescue you her on a mountain in Alaska, back in the first book, and their dire circumstances led to some feelings beginning to develop. They both acted on those feelings without thinking first, and it's now led to an awkward situation between the two of them. When Aria is forced to take some time off of her job as a pediatric cardiologist, and ends up attending a conference in the Florida Keys, she's expecting to be able to relax and rejuvenate. However, she wasn't prepared for the massive hurricane that's fast approaching the area, or the fact that she's been left in charge of a woman and her grandmother who needs immediate medical attention. When Jake hears about the hurricane heading quickly towards where Aria is, he doesn't even hesitate to head out and find her. Soon the two of them find themselves in a dangerous situation that they never could have been prepared for, and their relationship with God and with each other will be needed more than ever to help them both pull through.
I always appreciate the fact that the faith element plays a prominent role in every Susan May Warren title, and I honestly think the way it's portrayed in The Heart of a Hero was truly beautiful and masterful. I loved the underlying theme that God is always present, no matter what storm you are currently battling. There is also a big focus on God's forgiveness, and the importance of accepting that forgiveness and offering it others, but also to yourself. In particular, I really enjoyed the conversation that happens where Mimi talks about the fact that God is both good and sovereign, we can't go on with life believing He is one without believing He is the other. Likewise, while Jake is a "hero" in a sense many times throughout the story, the true emphasis is on the fact that no matter what, Jesus is always the ultimate hero. A beautiful passage in the story has Mimi talking about when Jesus healed the man with leprosy, and it was a heartwarming reminder that all things are possible through Him.
Aria and Jake's story was truly everything I was hoping for and more, and I loved how there's a new plot twist or turn around every single corner. It's action packed right from the start, and the action never ends and keeps the reader intrigued through each and every chapter. Aria and Jake's relationship is turbulent, but it also brings about the need to heal and grieve, and accept God's forgiveness, and how moving on requires forgiveness, and not closing yourself off from accepting love. I personally consider myself grateful to have never experienced a hurricane, but I truly felt in this story that I was right there experiencing it with all the characters. Susan May Warren has a way of writing these type of situations in an extremely realistic fashion, and the story truly seems to leap off the pages right in front of the reader.
Lastly, I have to state that I always appreciate the way that Susan is able to seamlessly weave a secondary story line in around the main plot that sets up the next book in the series. I very much enjoyed following Ham on his journey to discover more about his wife's death, and the humongous cliffhanger has me looking forward to the next book even more.
Definitely go ahead and pick this one up if you're a fan of Christian romantic suspense!
Final Rating: 4/5.
Thanks so much to Revell and NetGalley for allowing me to advance read this!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Revell) via NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a great book. Lots of suspense and a tiny bit of mystery. The main hero is Jake and he has quite the story to tell. He’s still riddled with guilt for letting his sister disappear all those years ago. But more recently the guilt of killing a young boy who he thought was a terrorist. He’s beginning to think he might be the devil others say he is.
Aria comes with her own baggage. She’s a heart transplant survivor after her twin dies and gives her her heart. Her guilt comes from surviving and she’s still trying to figure out whether she should follow her heart or follow the heart of the sister who’s heart is in her. As a pediatric surgeon, she sees death but the most recent one has her reeling.
This is a wonderful book with several different plots and subplots to go with it. And the ending! Man, I’m so ready for the next book! I read this series out of order though because this is the one I started with and it’s the second book in the series. I really think I need to go back and read the first one. With reading them out of order I can say there were a few holes that I had to fill in but mostly this is a stand-alone that combines with the other books in the series. I would recommend you read them in order though.
This book in one that I can highly recommend. You’ll definitely want to read this one! I think Aggie is one of my favorite characters though and I can’t wait to find out more about her and her father’s story in the next book.
Jake is strong and brave. He and Aria had some kind of a relationship in book one which I missed not reading that book. But you can tell something happened and both are trying to avoid it though they secretly love each other. Aria goes to Florida to have a vacation only to be caught in a hurricane. She mistakenly texts Jake instead of her friend Jenny that she’s sick and wishes he were there. So what does he do? Of course, he hops a flight and gets there ASAP. Lucky for them all he does.
A great book that read really fast. I didn’t want to put it down. Now I’m off to get the first book and preorder the third so I can read it as soon as it comes out!

“I know. You can’t help but be a hero.”
Buckle up, Buttercup…Susan May Warren could coin the term adventure. Whew! From the first to the last page she wrings out every moment into a roller coaster ride of action, adventure, and romantic suspense. She is my go to for a good book, and this one seriously was so full of action I had to stop and take multiple breaks! In The Heart of A Hero, she takes us around the world, but the main story is into a hurricane on the Florida Keys. Thankfully, our hero shows up in the nick of time…
“Because the man just stood there like some kind of mythical hero, a knight fighting fire-breathing dragons and the hounds of the underworld. His chest rose and fell, his blue eyes fierce in hers, pinning her to the spot.”
Once a SEAL and always a rescuer at heart, we meet Jake’s family and see a deeper level as to who he is. Then he goes to rescue Aria in the midst of a storm, whether she wants his help or not. I love how real Warren is about human behavior in the midst of danger with this couple. Their relationship runs hot and cold. However, this couple has sparks that fly off the page.
Another thing I enjoyed is how Warren gives us a glimpse of characters from prior series. It just makes me want to go back and start her books all over again. Ham is also on the search for the truth regarding his wife’s death and the daughter left in his care. This adds another level of mystery I can’t wait to see unfold in the future.
Seriously, this book blew me away in more ways than one. The action, the adventure, the multilayered storyline, and the romance is well, just intense. Don’t miss it! All the feels with laugh out loud one liners and the banter between Jake and Aria had me cracking up. The spiritual aspect is beautiful as well with a deeper level of meaning in the midst of hurricane weather…
“Lord, your Word says that when we pass through the waters, you will be with us. That they will not sweep over us. And it’s true.”
As this couple survives one calamity after another, they must overcome their weaknesses and fears. They learn to depend on each other more as they see a deeper message behind it all...that we are forgiven, loved, and how God wants us to live our lives to the fullest. This series is for anyone who loves mystery, adventure, romance and a deeper meaning behind it all.
I received a copy of the book through NetGalley by the publisher. All opinions have been given honestly.
The Heart of a Hero was written by Susan May Warren and is a book two in the Global Search and Rescue series. I would recommend reading the first book in the series before this one-just because so much happens in the first book.
Summary: Dr. Aria Spencer is spent. Still not recovered from her disastrous Denali climb, and reeling from the loss of a patient, she retreats to a medical conference in Florida-with a little vacation on the side.
But, this trip turns into anything but a vacation when a category four hurricane strikes the very spot she is staying.
Jake Silver still can’t get Denali out of his head-especially the parts that included Aria Spencer. Worried for her safety amidst the oncoming storm, he leaps into action-determined to help.
Will Jake get there in time, or will the storm destroy any chance he has of becoming a part of Aria’s life?
My Thoughts: I liked this book. It is packed with action and drama, is very fast-paced, and kept me on my toes. I liked the characters, the intricate plot line, and overall-it was just a great book.
I am also enjoying the secondary plot line that began in the first book including Hamilton Jones and his family. I am really looking forward to seeing how all that turns out in book three.
If you enjoy contemporary action/romance, this book (and series) is a good one-check it out!
I would like to thank Revell for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!
The Heart Of A Hero by Susan May Warren is a fabulous contemporary Christian adventure suspense. It is the second book in the Global Search And Rescue series which promises to be thrilling.
Once again Susan May Warren has created a marvellous set of characters who will lodge in your heart and soul. The novel can be read as a stand-alone, however if you have read some of Susan May Warren’s other series, familiar faces do pop up.
The novel’s main themes are those of search and rescue (hence the series) – literally as characters are facing a hurricane, and also spiritually. God searches for us and rescues us from a life of disconnection from Him. “God always shows up in a storm.” No matter where we go, no matter what we’ve done, God longs for each and every one of us to know Him. Susan May Warren uses the literary device of pathetic fallacy. As the storm rages around characters threatening to disrupt lives, a spiritual battle rages within.
God says we are loved but we do not always listen to His voice. “Start blessing yourself instead of cursing yourself. Tell yourself the truth… I am loved.” We need to silence the lies from the enemy and see ourselves as God sees us.
We cannot work our way into God’s good books because our name is already there. Only by His grace are we in His book of life. We do not earn our place, it is a gift freely given.
We cannot stop life happening to us but we can always choose how to respond. There is always the choice to do the right thing but we do not always choose it.
Forgiveness is a major theme. God forgives. Others forgive. Why do we find it so hard to forgive ourselves? “You need to forgive yourself.”
God heals hearts. There is both spiritual and physical healing within the story.
As the novel closes, Susan May Warren has left it perfectly poised for book three – and I cannot wait to read that.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Jake Silver, former SEAL, rescued Dr. Aria Sinclair and he hasn’t been able to forget their time together. Aria is a well-known pediatric surgeon and when she loses a patient she is devastated. Her boss sends her to a conference and vacation in Key West which unknowingly puts her in the path of a category four hurricane. When Aria texts Jake by mistake instead of his sister, Jake heads for Key West knowing that she might be in trouble. As they are holed up with several others escaping the hurricane’s rage, they will battle the elements to stay alive. A pulse pounding and non-stop adventure as Jake’s SEAL training may be the only thing that will help them survive. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Aria and Jake both have rough a rough past that help shape the way they live in the present time. After being rescued on mount Denali and an almost incident after that, Aria and Jake go their separate ways until a text message changes everything. When Jake sees a tropical storm heading to Florida, where Aria is, he can’t stay away and leaves to make sure she is safe. As they wait out the storm, the truth about both of their pasts come to light. Will they find true freedom that can only come from God? Will they have the courage to risk everything and be together? You’ll have to read to find out.
The Heart Of a Hero will keep you on your toes, and leave you wanting more.
I received an advance e-copy from netgalley for review. All opinions are my own.
The Heart of a Hero is the second book in Susan May Warren's Global Search and Rescue series. This book picks back up on Jake and Aria's relationship as well as adding in some new characters and plot twists. Every page is action packed as Jake and Aria find themselves trapped in the path of a Category 5 hurricane. They both have to use their life-saving skills in order to save themselves as well as a handful of troubled strangers.
I am loving this series! It's the perfect mix of romance and suspense. This is a great vacation read and just a great way to experience a little excitement in your life. This book played like a movie in my mind and once I started it, I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next book in the series! Heart of a Hero picks up right where book one leaves us. Back from a frightening trip to Denali, Aria and Jake are now back in Minnesota. Determined to get on with life, they both know they should put all that happened in Alaska behind them, but how can they when so much of their hearts were shared with the other?
Aria jumps back into her job a little too quickly and her colleagues can see that. To offer help, she is sent to Key West to attend a medical conference and Simultaneously get some much needed rest. Little does she know a storm is headed her way - or rather, two storms: both a hurricane and again, Jake Silver! After seeing Aria briefly at a Fourth of July picnic, Jake knows he is a goner. He fell hard for Aria in Alaska and nothing has changed now that they are home. After seeing the news of a hurricane heading directly for the Keys, Jake's instincts to act first and explain later kick in to high gear. Will Aria be happy to see him or will she push him away?
This story is full of intense adventure, emotion, great chemistry, and faith. Aria and Jake both have trauma in their past and have areas they need to grow in as they learn to trust in God's plans, not their own. We love these characters and were eager to jump into Aria and Jake's story. Thank you Susan for delivering another gripping story that kept us up too late at night!
Note: We were given this book in exchange for our honest review.
When Jay first showed up , he made an impact on my as a reader. You wanted to know more about him and his story. Susan May Warren has a way of creating complex characters that are flawed by redeemable. Jay and Aria's story continues from The Way of the Brave. As you read you find out more about how these characters view themselves and each other. I love this story because it reminds me that God reveals himself and how he feels about us through his words and people. There story is about two people who are still very much affected by the mistakes and trauma of their past. They are locked into a prison of their own making. Ms. Warren's side characters make such an impact on these two stubborn people who love each other but must overcome their own fears and thinking to see what God had in store for them.
I received this book from NetGalley and the opinions expressed are entirely my own. When a book touches my heart I must share my opinion.
I always enjoy Susan May Warren's books and this one was no exception. It is a fast-paced, action-packed tale that had me not wanting to put it down. This book picks up right where the first in the series left off with Aria and Jake having returned from Alaska. They are soon plunged into many dangerous situations that they must get through together. This is a story of accepting God's forgiveness and grace and it pushes the fact that all are worthy of others love. It ends in a way to set up the next book in the series and I can't wait to read it as well. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Susan May Warren does it again! I absolutely love her writing style and her ability to make me feel like I am right in the story.
I have been looking forward to Jake and Aria's story since the last book. They both have so much baggage and potential; It was awesome to read. The only issue I had is that it ended too quickly. Now I'm looking forward to the next one!!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action romance. It's a perfect combination!
Wow, what a pager turner!
Jake and Aria's story began in book 1 of the Global Search and Rescue series, The Way of the Brave,
Jake rescued Aria on Mt. Denali, got her safely back home then the two parted ways, but that is was not the end of their journey.
The author, Susan May Warren, puts these two through the wringer. This time around Aria is in Key West, Florida for a medical conference. The plot thickens as a cat 5 hurricane aims for the Florida coast. Jake rushes to find Aria and the two are seek shelter with an interesting cast of characters.
I loved the supporting cast of characters in this book. The Lord had lessons he wanted each of them to learn. He put the perfect people in place to help both Aria and Jake face the hard truths He wanted them to face and draw each of them closer to Him.
This was quite an adventure packed book as well as an emotional read.
If "inspirational romantic suspense" is what you are looking for, this one will be to your liking.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.. I am not expected to write a favorable review, only give my honest opinion of the book.
