Unfortunately, I wasn't very interested in the characters or the plot.

Something felt off about the characters, but I can't quite put my fingers on what it is about them. Maybe it's that they felt overly fake and superficial, or that they're bordering on manic pixie dream girls. I did appreciate the strong female friendships though, and enjoyed that the popular girls weren't automatically made the villains.

The plot felt a bit confusing to me... maybe I wasn't in the right place of mind to follow what was going on or something. Whatever it was, it wasn't for me. I did like the feminist undertones... or maybe they were overt overtones? Whatever they were, I liked it.

I don't think that this is an objectively bad book, I just don't think it's for me.

Am I weird in saying I didn't like it as much as everyone else?
As soon as I put it down, I completely forgot about it until I had to force myself to remember I had read it for this review. That's how forgetful it was for me.

I moved between liking and disliking the book throughout. I had an okay time reading it but I wouldn’t reread the book. I thought of maybe carrying on but I’ll let go. There’s so many other books and series I need to get to.

I liked the friendship group and how they interacted with each other, but I didn’t like the main character. I did like the casual touching amongst the friendship group. There wasn’t much of a solid plot and I think that’s what annoyed me the most. I also wasn’t following along really because it just wasn’t holding enough of my attention but it felt like there wasn’t a good amount of plot anyway.

I didn't think I would enjoy this at the beginning, but I really ended up loving it. I think this story is fantastically done and is such a great journey throughout. I couldn't put it down.

I was very interested in this read. It seemed like it would be a spooky great read. Overall I enjoyed my time.

This book and it's sequel are great additions to the recent "Teen Witches" phenomena in YA literature. The plot is engaging, the relationship between the female characters is heartwarming, and I can't wait for the next installment.

I gave this a two out of five stars. It was an okay read its wasn't keeping me totally hooked. This book was a pretty forgettable book. I didn't care about any of the characters.

The Scapegracers is a fun read about high school witchcraft. It reminded me a little of The Craft. I love the dynamics/friendship between the girls in the coven. The cover is beautiful. I see there is a second book and I'm super excited for it. I love all things witchy and this book did not disappoint.

I wanted to like this one a lot but unfortunately, I just struggle with witches these days!
i was happy that the LGBTQ community are getting a spotlight here because other than not liking the witches, I think the narrative was really well written but lacking in plot.

4 stars

I won't lie, I started this book with the thought that I probably wouldn't like this at all.
And it did start of a little weird and confusing. I was seriously thinking of DNF'ing this book in the first chapter. I know that isn't fair, so I kept on reading.

As I kept in reading I actually started to like this book, I really enjoyed how the characters actually felt like real teenage girls.
Sideways insecurities felt so real, and its something that I could easily relate to, which in it self is quite sad to think about actually.
I really liked the aspect of finding friendship where you least expect it.
I honestly loved these girls friendship, and I really liked the characters too.
I just really love their friendship and everything about it. The protectivenes, the rawness and the weirdness. It was amazing.

I didn't feel like the magic system was explained that well. Or you know I'm just dense lol. I also disliked the name Sideways, eventhough it grew on me as I kept on reading.

Anyways I definitely recommend this book.

This book is a lively young adult story with queer representation and a little spooky plot filled with witches. Loved the way the characters were written and how the locations in the story were described, I think it gives the story life. I wanted to keep reading this book as long as possible, it was a real page turner. I’m excited that this is the first of a trilogy, I think this author is there a fantastic writer and I can’t wait to read the next.

It had parts where it was very interesting. But it was so wierd when she was named Sideways...like...wtf? I know it is a nickname but still awkward. But i enjoyed it overall, though some parts were boring where it happend basically nothing.

Queer, magical, amazing. I adore The Scapegracers and am so looking forward to this sequel that is forthcoming. This story shows the complexity of characters as if they were real people.

I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book had an amazing plot, but I felt the characters were a bit hard to connect to.

Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.

This book was interesting. I really enjoyed the story overall but it could have been better. I would definitely read something from this author in the future though.

I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!

DNF at 43% / chapter 10

This was, in theory, everything I would enjoy: a cool and kickass girl gang, lesbians, witches and rituals and magic, but alas I kept waiting for the direction of the story to make sense and the ball to be rolling, but it kept including unnecessarily long chapters with a lot of stuff not relevant to the plot. Although I love the gang and the magic system, I am still not enjoying the pace of the story or the writing style, and feel like there is way too much going on.

This title was not for me. Although the writing and story are great, I just couldn't seem to stay interested in it. It was easy for me to put down and forget about.

This book singlehandedly made me search out all existing sapphic witch books because!! Wow!! This was such an underrated book, and I’m glad I got to read it because it was fun and twisty, and I loved every moment! I can’t wait to read more from this author because I was eating up every page of this.

This is the kind of book I wished for as a teenager! Subversive and a little feral - this quartet of magical teenage girls are a far cry from Sabrina the Teenage Witch of late 1990s fame. We get all the particulars of high school life - parties, dating, friends - but the spin is magical and often queer, and the story is richer for it. Come for the sorcery, stay for the friendships and shenanigans.

The scapegracers was a really fun new take on witches and magic. I loved the way it was just a part of normal life, and that the problems came from “normal” teenage drama, not the existence of magic.
