Mildly entertaining, but more of a library-brow book, that a worthy purchase. At your local bookseller.
Found it a little hard to connect with this one. The cover, title, and blurb seemed like a fun read, so I got this without knowing who the author is and/or having any idea how she is in real life. Did have to force myself to read past all the shagging of the college years (OMG! These chapters just seemed to be about sex, LOL), and by this point, the read kinda dwindled along for me. But since it wasn't a long book, didn't find it a slug to read through and actually finished it despite not connecting that much with the writing and the voice
I was not familiar with the author prior to reading this book and have been married for almost 18 years, so was worried that I wouldn't enjoy this as much as others did. However, the author's writing style makes you feel like you are one of her close girlfriends discussing things. The casualness of her writing and the open nature when detailing the less stellar parts of her journey to dating again made this a fast and enjoyable read!
What a great short little book to dip in and out of over a weekend.
Lauren Cribb did the typical dating thing and got married and quickly into the marriage realized that this was not how the rest of her life was supposed to go. Enter divorce at a young age and reentering the dating world. It was really interesting reading about someone else's life experiences (i.e. divorce and Hollywood life) that are so drastically different from mine and getting to know someone else who lives in a different place from me.
I could hear the author's voice clearly and as we are close to the same age, I could relate so much to the experiences she was having in the context of growing up with the amount of technology that I did and the pop culture references.
I would have loved to have listened to this on audio as it probably would have felt as though my friend was sitting here telling me all her stories!
Although Cribb's marriage was far more disastrous than mine, we share the experience of having been married and divorced while still young - and having to venture into the dating world, feeling incredibly inexperienced and unsure. While I could recognize myself in some of the struggles she faced, her ability to hide away for a year and a half, and take a solo 5-week trip to Europe while seemingly not working made it difficult to connect.
She touched on family issues a bit in this story, but they didn't seem to be the focus or relevant to what she was discussing in those moments, so it seemed unnecessary. Overall, it was a light read I was able to finish quickly, and it was entertaining.
Thank you to Girl Friday Productions/LC Entertainment and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
While I enjoyed the author's self-deprecating humor and willingness to share not only the "pretty and nice" side of her life, the book as a whole was underwhelming. It painted a portrait of a spoiled and entitled young woman, who gives little thought to anyone but herself. Nice to read that she did end up finding love and stability, but the story on the way to getting there was very one-dimensional.
