So, so, so good. There was so much packed into this book about Noreen and Cain. Sometimes that’s a bad thing, but at this moment, when we’re so close to the end of the series, I personally need the action and the moving of the overarching plot along.
I won’t give anything away, but it was great to also get more about Henry and Melisse (wasn’t expecting that), Rhi and Con (can August get here sooner!) and a surprise new reaper who’s scene brought tears to my eyes.
Thank you to SMP for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
Donna Grant has done it again!! Noreen is one of the others and has decided to change sides. That’s when she meets Cain, a drop dead gorgeous Dragon King. He has sworn to protect her, the Others know they will look for her at Dreagon, so they must find an alternative hiding place. She shares her secrets, and much more. This book is action packed, and don’t forget the spicy love scenes!! For the series lovers watch out- lots of reveals! This book is is not a stand alone, if you have not been reading the a Dragon Series you will be lost. For those following, it is a must read, there are so many questions revealed in this book! Awesome job Donna!

WOW!
I thoroughly enjoyed Flame, what an action packed book it was so hard to put down! Cain and Noreen are from opposing factions and overcome difficulties to be together.
There were some interesting surprises which added to the enjoyment of this book.
Donna Grant is an exceptional writer, if you have not read any of her books, you need to!
Flame is a great start to the end of the series, a lot of spoilers in this book so only read if you are up to this point in the series.
I highly recommend this series, I look forward to reading the next book in the Dark Kings series.
Our favorite Dragon Kings are back at it. I love paranormal romances, I love dragons, and I love this mystical world where we delve deep into Irish/Scottish folklore and DRAGONS!
In Flame, we get the yummy enemies to lovers story of Dark Faye and Other's member, Noreen, and Dragon King of the Navies, Cain. The book opens with Noreen hedging about sending an email of warning to the Dragon Kings versus the extreme danger to herself if she does so. And from there we get pulled into the intricate weavings of the Dragon Kings from the beginning to now and the Others side of things.
We get sooo many blanks filled in on this one. Where the humans actually came from the complete back story to Ulrik, the story behind Usaeil and who she really is, what happened to her body, Rhi shows up. Con's a mess. We see what has happened on the Faye plane. Ohhh and even a little snippet into the interactions between Melisse and Henry.
Flame has double/triple crosses, mystery, intrigue, magic and a dark faye who stays dark and is accepted for who she is!
Love!
I cannot wait for the last and final story in this series. We have long awaited Con's story... gah!
*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.*
Loved reading the mesmerizing and captivating Dark King's story. Even though Noreen is taking a chance and turning her back on the Others, she sends an email to the Dragons. Cain, a Dragon King, is sent to meet with Noreen to discover what she knows about the others and whether or not it is a trap. Cain can't help falling for the lovely dark fae, Noreen. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, full of romance and mystery, and a must read love story.
I reviewed a copy of the book through NetGalley.
This is the next book in the Dark King's series. It can be read as a standalone although it is addicting and you will find yourself looking to read the others!
The Dragon Kings are in search for "the Other", a group of Druids consisting of Human, Fey and others. Their goal is to kill the Dragon Kings and take over the Earth as their own. Noreen is part of "the others", kind of like an apprentice. She has been there since she was a child and is realizing she all along. She decides to go to the Dragon Kings.
It is very tricky trying to get a message to the Dragon Kings because she has to protect herself from all involved. Our Dragon King Cain is the one who intercepts her message and is curious so he arranges to meet with her. This is where their story begins...
I felt for Noreen, she thought long and hard on her choice and didn't know if she would come out of it with her life. Her words are doubted by all because of her involvement with "The Others" and the fact that she was a Dark Fey.
Neither she nor Cain really believed in love or a happily ever after, they have both been around for too long. They had such an attraction toward one another though, which surprised them both. I think Noreen really thought this would be the end of her life.
Moreann, who is the self-appointed Queen of 'the Others" is such a evil woman. There is only one other character in this series who comes close. As they uncover more information they realize how devious she really is.
Will Noreen survive? Will she and Cain find happiness? Will the Kings stop "The Others"?
While I truly loved Cain and Noreen's story there was some confusion in my head. Moreann manipulated Noreen's memories so much that no one was sure if she told the truth or not.
I would still recommend this book though. Ms Grant is an awesome writer and I have enjoyed any story of hers I have read.
I recieved this book via NetGalley and have agreed to leave an honest review.
Seriously Donna Grant - how can this be the second to last book??? I am dying inside....I actually had a hard time starting this book because I just didn't want it to be the beginning of the end. As much as I've waited for some of the things revealed here to happen, still.....
I won't reveal much about the plot here, because saying to much would really be a spoiler. I'll just say - SO MUCH HAPPENS and is REVEALED. If you are a long-time series follower (like me) this book gives you so much.
Although you could read this as a standalone - I wouldn't really recommend it. You definitely don't need to read all of the books that came before, but you need context.
I loved everything about this story. It did have a bit of a slow start - but ended on a roar. How am I going to wait until august???
I received this as an ARC, but I would have paid hard earned cash for it at just about any cost. These opinions are all mine!
I simply cannot get enough of Donna Grant's Dark Kings series. Fantastic story with superb writing. Loved the romance and paranormal aspects..
As I read the blurb for this book I was excited to start to read something new from this new to me author. Except after the first page I was just confused. The more I read the more confused I got, I just didn’t really get what was going on in this book and there were so many characters introduced in the first few chapters I had no clue who was who. I have stopped and started this book several times just hoping for things to come together and start to make sense to me, but no luck, Blurb is good, book is confusing.
Wow! Just like her other books in the series it was well written and the story was great. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend the book.
Flame by is a paranormal romance Donna Grant. Ms. Grant has delivered a well-written book. The characters are fantastic but plentiful, you may want to read previous books to understand this book better. Noreen is a Dark Fae and firmly under the thumb of Moreann, Empress of the Druids, but she is determined to warn the Dragon Kings of Moreann's plans. Cain is one of the Dragon Kings and it's his job to find out what Noreen knows after she sent the Dragon Kings an email of warning. Noreen and Cain's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. I enjoyed reading Flame but now I need to go back and read the previous book to better appreciate this one. Flame is book 17 of the Dark Kings Series and can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An E-Arc was received through NetGalley for an honest review.
Donna Grant does it again and never disappoints! I absolutely loved this book. This was my second book I read from her and I got to say her books keep getting better and better. Donna definitely as a new fan and I can't wait to dive into more of her books!
The world Donna Grant has created in her novels is amazing. I cannot get enough. Flame is the penultimate novel in the Dark King series and tells the story of Noreen, a Dark Fae and member of 'The Others' and Cain, our Dragon King hero. We see many of our beloved characters in this book as they all work to destroy the evil 'Others'. I won't go into details that could spoil the excitement for other readers, just know you will love this story! Some questions will be answered, and new ones generated. No disappointment here, just satisfaction and anticipation for the final showdown! I received an ARC from NetGalley to enjoy and review.
Noreen wants to be good, will do anything to live and help for good . To go against the others
*Cain keeps Noreen settled and think of the positive, to not think of what bad could happen , dont let doubt lead you
*hate that light queen is alive and now set free
*love the hunger and passion these two have for eachother
*So much activity in one book, different directions with so many characters but very easy for the reader to follow
*it's amazing how Donna Grant writes her books and how she combines more then 1 series all together..we get to see all our favorite characters again
*noreen wants to change, be the better side of herself who loves and felt love, who wants to help others.. she doesn't like the person she used to be(old noreen) how she hated everyone and everything
*feel anger and frustration knowing certain people have not reached their end... but look forward and hope they do in the next book
*absolutely loved this book
Donna Grant has created a world of magic, with dragons, fae, druids, and more. Great world building, fascinating characters, and complicated romantic relationships keep her books worth going back to again and again.
I loved seeing so many characters come together in Flame; the Dragon Kings, the a few of the fae, Death and her Reapers, and The Order all play a part in this book. Plus, a character who was introduced in the last book reappears with hints of her purpose. I was also happy to see more of Rhi, a Light Fae with untold power and a strained relationship with Con, the King of the Dragon Kings. There is a feeling that many questions may be answered in the next book, while also being very satisfying with the progress in this book.
l received a copy of this book from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
I just don't think Donna can write a bad book! Flame isnt any different!!!!! The Dragon Kings know who they're up against but can they with stand the battle that is yet to come?

I was given an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review, so I sincerely hope some of the criticism will be taken to heart and changes made to this book before it publishes in June. When I first saw the cover of this book, it grabbed my attention. The characters have a special magic to them, drawing you to them. I was intrigued with them and delved into the story from the start.
Yet, though the characters were captivating, I found that I was skipping over so many details of the plot. When I grabbed this book, I had no idea this was book 17 of 18, so maybe that’s part of the issue, but there are so many characters, relationships, mates, allies and betrayals, etc. to keep track of that I gave up and plowed through it just to see what would end up happening. Part of me is absolutely flabbergasted that there are 17 books prior to this, and that the storytelling is so all over the place. Yet the other part wonders if I had started from the beginning, I might not have been so lost. In the end, this seems to be more of a bridge between stories in the series. There really is a lot of talk and very little action. There is seriously so much talk that it distracted from any plot development though I can tell the author was trying to do just that through conversion. At one point, Grant even mentioned a plot point why one character turned from light to dark, yet a chapter or two later, a mate makes the same point and the recipient says they never even thought of that until the mate mentioned it. Wait what? You literally JUST said that!
I really hope some changes are made before the final publication, because there is a lot of potential. The characters and world are great; it just needs a good deal of improvement on the storytelling.
3.75 stars
The review can be found on Goodreads as well.
An E-Arc was received through NetGalley for an honest review.
This book was so amazingly enjoyable.
Plot:
A male and female of rival races (dragon v. fae) must work together in an almost witness protection type thing that I am all for.
Pros
1. The relationship between the two main characters was smartly executed, but I have not been disappointed by Grant yet. Even though they have sex pretty soon there actual emotional relationship was gradual.
2. The book is a supernatural romance but the main plot implements the conflict of the tension between all races and even more the political divide of the leaders of the races.
3. The first time we meet Cain in this book he is trying to get his friend to let him have the last doughnut. It ends with him needing to bribe the friend as an incentive. Very relatable and humorous. So many great aspects of this book. Humor, a hate-to-love relationship, talks of rape, etc.
If a fan of supernatural romance highly recommends this series.
Cons
1. My biggest critic is the way contractions were written so the reader would know how to enunciate them for a Scottish/Irish accent. The swearing was fine and accurate but I just cringed every time I read donna (do not) or cana' (cannot) etc. I understand why it was done and the effect it was going to but as a person with imidate Irish family, the translation did not seem to translate accurately for me. Probably would not have been addressed if I waited for release and listened to as an audiobook.
2. The ending is an ending to be content with but I do have some mixed emotions as I do not want this series to be over but I really want justice or death for the enemies!
Gah!! You have got to kidding me! My heart has been stripped bare and shredded by this incredibly monumentous story. This was not an easy story or a soft story or even a quiet story. This is a story overflowing with passionate emotions, soul deep revelations, and life alternating love. If you aren't careful this story just may break you into tiny enough pieces that you won't be able to put your heart back together again.
Noreen had one goal. Nothing could make her waver from that goal. Nothing except a little thing called love. She never saw it coming, never heard it's impening footprints, and never imagined that it would ever touch her. What a surprise Fate had in store for her! Cain knows the weight of his past, and he carries it with him each and every day. He never even hoped for something to lighten his burden of that it was even possible. All he wanted to fight for his survival and the existence of his entire race. Could love be cruel enough to dangle when you never thought you ever wanted in front of you only to snatch it away once you recognize it for what it is? Can anyone survive a loss that devastating and still keep breathing and hoping?
I never imagined meeting a fascinating Far like Noreen. She is a marvelous character with such depth and creativity that I enjoyed getting to know her. Cain made things so much sweeter after these two met. While trust may come easily to some for others it can only exist after being tried and tested thoroughly. That is the painful journey these two amazing characters must face and battle through. They must stand strong and walk the dangerous path that Les before them.
I simply love the intensity and complexity that are a trademark Donna Grant masterpiece. I can never get enough, and I hunger for the next one as soon as I finish one. I am literally addicted to her masterful creativity and immense talent! I know you will be as well once you give her a chance to rock your world.
Oh wow! What a ride this book was! Not only did it answer questions from the series hints but it added more questions. A couple things I nailed but a few things I had not expected but make sense now that I think back on the previous books. A couple hints beg the rereading of the entire series between now and Con's book release. The weapon? WHY is it that this weapon can do what only another king should be able to do? WHO is this mysterious woman and how does she play into the story? Where is Rhi's (blank blank)?? And (blank blank) didn't BLANK?!
Ok, I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't caught up to this point. All I can say is Donna has done it again!
