WOW!!! So much happened in this Dragon King book, I could not put it down! Cain was humor, strength, fierce and loyal, all wrapped up into one package. He was determined to find out the truth and source of current events involving his fellow Dragon Kings. He was not expecting to find what he did. Noreen was an interesting character from the moment we met her. I couldn't wait to see how her story unfolded. I was swept up into this book until the very end and was left wanting more. I cannot wait for the next book in this series! Thank you, Ms Grant for another great book!
Noreen, a dark fae was in danger and needed a Dragon King to listen to her and hopefully help her before he killed her. She had been alive for thousands of years and had once believed the Others belief that The Dragon Kings should be killed, but she no longer felt that way and now wanted to help the Dragon Kings overthrow the Others so they were no longer a danger to the dragons.
Cain is picked to go to Noreen and make sure it isn't a trap and if it isn't offer to help keep her safe from the Others. But she thinks the Others are on to her and she's scared. It takes a little persuasion on Cain's part but she agree's to go with him.
They find the perfect place to hide but there's more to this realm than they first think and they might know who is behind the magical transformation. Rhi is powerful and I knew that from the last book but I didn't realize just how powerful she was. So while Cain and Noreen are talking, getting to know one another more and she tells him what she knows of the Others, Rhi is facing a truth of her own.
Once Cain finds out what he needs to, he heads back to tell his fellow Dragon Kings so they can prepare but not before getting a lot closer to Noreen than he would have thought possible. They make for an opposites attract kind of couple, but it works.
But then a horrible secret comes to light and I could have cried for the both of them. In fact a lot of secrets and betrayals are revealed which led this story in an entirely new way. This story ends up going in a new direction that I couldn't have seen coming and it ended masterfully. I was rooting for the Dragon Kinds and all of their mates. I am loving this series so much. Definitely looking forward to the next book.
Disclosure: I was given an eARC of this book via NetGalley but all opinions and thoughts are my own.
WOW!! This book is amazing and it really got me hooked into the story. So much is revealed in this book and I am so sad that the series is almost over but I know I will be reading the entire series again in the future.
This is book 17 in the Dark Kings series and I do recommend you start from the very beginning because you will understand the character more .
I very much recommend this book and this series.
I give this 5 out of 5.
Those finding love in this book are Cain and Noreen, but there is also more with the storyline that has been going on for multiple books and series. More about the group The Others, which includes psycho Fae, Usaeil. Ugh I hate that Usaeil is still alive; I will not be happy if she gets some redemption story, pretty please either imprison her or kill her. Also, there’s still the scenario of dancing around what’s wrong with Con and Rhi. There’s quite a few different POVs going on, which is fine, but why are we getting the POV of characters from the Reaper series when this is a Dragon Kings book? Should’ve just had all the connecting series be one, so there wouldn’t be any confusion. Con and Rhi’s story/ies don’t progress much in this book, and even The Others storyline doesn’t much either. We do get some more information about them though, but still a small step. Noreen is a dark Fae that is part of The Others, but has decided she wants out and to help the dragon kings. Cain, a dragon king, ends up connecting with her and trying to keep her safe from The Others. Despite being from different groups, they grow closer romantically. I liked their connection and how that story progresses; there’s a nice twist there. The whole story is entertaining and I really enjoy the world created in this author’s multiple series; love how all the series have connecting characters. I’d recommend reading some of the previous books before this one because there may be some uninteresting or confusing parts if you haven’t. Overall, I’ll be happy when we get closure on the Usaeil storyline, and a conclusion for Con and Rhi. I’m ready for the big battle between them all once and for all.
Noreen and Cain are amazing! This is my first book in this series and I feel like I jumped into a whole new world that's exciting, dangerous and passionate. Noreen goes against what she has always known to do what's right and that just sold me on her immediately. They can't fight their attraction and pull for long but they also have to decide what is best for themselves and everyone else. I will be picking up the other stories now.
Such an engaging read! For as many books as there are in this series, they truly do continue to hold attention and not get stale as a long series tends to do. There only one other author for me with such a huge series that has the same effect, which is truly an amazing feat.
These dragons continue to elicit emotions and feelings for fictional creatures that non readers just don’t understand and Donna is a mastermind with this. I don’t see myself getting tired of this series for a long time, of course that is with the hope this series continues for quite a while!

Flame🔥
I’m going to start this review off by saying I’ve never read anything by Donna before and when I applied for this book, I had no idea it was a part of a series - let alone the 17th book in that particular series😱 I really just liked the cover...I know I judged the book by its cover😂
Suffice to say I plodded along and I really enjoyed the story, the characters and even the hint the Dragon Kings had of an accent. I’m thinking it’s going to be in my best interest to start at the beginning so I have a better grasp of the story and how this unravels but I really enjoyed the story otherwise and I look forward to starting at the beginning❣️
I received an advanced copy via Netgalley and thank the author and publisher for a chance to review😁
Wowzers!! This book was so good. And intriguing. And captivating. And..and..and...I loved it so hard!!! (If you couldn't tell...LOL). Seriously, it was great. The characters, the story, everything. Yes, it's part of a long-running series (this is book 17) but I think you could read this book ok as a stand-alone....but you're going to want to go back and read the other 16 books.
I recommend this book and the whole Dark Kings series.
Thank you to the publisher, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
This book was amazing! Betrayal, mates, steam, dragons, and trying to stop evil...this book kept me on the edge and I enjoyed it! Dragon King and a Dark Fae/Other isn’t supposed to be together but their chemistry can’t be denied. Cain and Noreen’s story is interesting with plenty of steam! I definitely recommend reading this!
This is book 17 in the Dark Kings series and I would absolutely read the previous books before reading this one as there is a much bigger story ARC that goes through all the books, each story pushes that story ARC further on it's path. In this one we get Cain and Noreen's story. Cain seriously distrusts not only mortals but fae as well. He was born a warrior and with everything in him he needs to keep his people safe. When a warning comes from a dark fae, can he trust her? Or the attraction he feels for her? Noreen has decided to warn the Dragon Kings when she finds out exactly what those of her kind and the Others have planned for them. She has her own code that she lives by and she refuses to cross certain lines, even if it means her life. But when she meets Cain, she never realizes exactly how much she has truly risked in order to do the right thing.
I absolutely loved this one!! Noreen may be a dark fae but she is still this woman who is willing to do what she must for what she believes in. Even when it will probably cost her everything. She is strong, kick butt, but also this lovable woman. Cain has trust issues and I couldn't blame him. But once he gives his heart, he doesn't hesitate to do the things that he needs to do. He not only is willing to protect her but he is willing to find her a place where she can be safe. And then you get the bigger story ARC and how this story just helped push it even more forward. On the one hand, I am so ready for the next book so that I have all the answers that I need! But on the other hand, I know that I will be crying and heartbroken over the things that I know are coming for this next book. Especially after that epilogue...I just know I will be crying and need my tissues!!!
Donna Grant is definitely a master at her craft!! Once again she has brought her readers to the edge of their seats with with an enemies to lover tale that thankfully or should I say finally answered some of our questions from other books in the series. While this was a wonderful read my only complaint is that it is a touch to short for my liking. I was given this book to review from Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own and given volutarily.
War between the Fae both light and dark, the others and the dragon kings seems inevitable. Do the Kings question their decision to protect the humans and banish their dragons? Read this pivotal book in the series to find out what's what. Of course the fact that Noreen and Cain find love along the way is the cherry on top.
Noreen is a part of the Others. She's become increasingly uncomfortable about what her group is planning so she reaches out anonymously to warn the kings. Cain is dispatched to determine Noreen's motives and find out what she wants to tell them. In order to protect Noreen he takes her to the devastated and abandoned fae realm to hide her away from the reach of the others. Imagine their surprise when they find that a large part of the realm has been healing. Who or what is responsible?
The power of healing in the fae realm is having a strange effect on Noreen. Her bound and altered memories are released to devastating effect. Between the Kings, the reapers and all the other usual suspects from the series the story weaves through a myriad of twists and turns and blind corners making it one of the more exciting books in the series for a while.
So many questions from the past are answered and of course new threads offering tantalizing glimpses offer up intriguing possibilities for future books. Con has always had a strong supporting role in this series but this one really takes the time to look beneath his smooth urbane interior into the tortured pained man underneath. I know the author is setting the stage for his book and I for one absolutely can't wait to see how it all works out for the King of the Dragons.
While the author continues the reaper series as it's own series the characters have become so strongly meshed with the dragons, it's hard to separate where one ends and the other begins particularly with the role they play in this book. Anyhow, can't wait to see how the author will evolve this series and where she'll take it next.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ All the stars!!!!
Oh my god!!! Just when I think things can’t get crazier in this world - they do! This book was amazing and I’m going to be raving about it for awhile here, hopefully spoiler free 😀
Donna Grant is still pulling strings left and right - tying up one storyline and starting new ones that blow your mind. I may have yelled more than once reading this book.
Cain has been in the background of previous books, we don’t know much about him and his Navies. He gets an email sent from Noreen - a dark fae working for the Others, but she wants to give information. Cain isn’t sure she can be trusted.
This book answered some questions, I was shocked at a few things, I have some new questions and I’m honestly thrilled I only have to wait until August for Con’s book!!!
Wow! This book was so good. I wasn’t sure what to expect since it’s the second to last book in the series and the previous novella I didn’t really care for or see a point to. But this one is clearly setting up for one heck of a finally. Both Cain and Noreen were well thought and interesting characters who grew throughout the book and added great detail to the larger overarching storyline. Everything with the Others is heating up and very important things are learned so you do not want to miss this book!!
The end is near for the big battle with Moreann. Noreen is forsaking the others and is bringing some much needed intel to the Kings in the hopes of helping the defeat the others. Never did she expect to find Cain is her mate. It is a roller coaster ride from there.
Lots going on in this story leading to Con’s story And what I believe i heard was the final Dragon King book. Perhaps there will be spin-off since Vaughn doesn’t have a mate and then there is Henry and Melisse. It is possible that those loose ends will be tied up in the next book.
There were a few emotional moments in this story.
I enjoyed this well-written, sexy book. Noreen is taking a risk and warning the Dragon Kings about something the Dark Fae are planning but is surprised to find her heart at risk too. Cain's experience has been that he can't trust Fae, but when Noreen brings a warning to the Dragon Kings, he is attracted to her and starts to wonder if if she is an exception. The book was full of action and it was hard to put it down. This was an entertaining book and I would read other books by this author as well as recommend the author to others.
The war is on their doorstep but who will stand with the Dragon Kings? Noreen knows that she has to do something to help the Dragon Kings but it means going against the person that saved her after her parents death. But she knows if she doesn't to anything the Others will take down the Kings for good. Cain knows that she is telling the truth and he knows that he has to do something to save her as she might be dark but she isn't a bad person. But little does the King of the Navies realise that she is his mate and that she will try to destroy everything that he holds dear. Can Cain forgive her before it is too late? Will Noreen make the right choice?
Rhi is back but she has changed and the darkness is winning the battle. Will see be lost forever? Con is losing his grip he has survived so much since letting his mate go and he just can't carry on going anymore. What does the future hold for them both? When will Henry come into his powers and what will he do when he finds out what the weapon really is?
Will all sides stand together against the war that is coming to destroy their world?
Another great read in the series. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.
This is Cain’s story…and I would give his story 4 stars. Cain is so nice compared to most of the other Dragon Kings. He is calm, kind, sweet, and until about halfway through the book, tolerant. He doesn’t get anxious or angry at what is happening. The story for him turns at that point, and he finally shows the dragon side of himself, letting us see his life before the dragons were sent away. Noreen starts out as a frightened woman, who runs into Cain. She stays that way until she meets Rhi. For Cain and Noreen, the story runs along much as you’d expect it to. Then, about midway through the book, things begin to change, and happen, to both of them and to several others. From this point to the end of the book, it’s a 5-star read. Donna Grant weaves together some of the ongoing plot points, and gives us clues to the next couple of books in this series. As always, this book is well written, and you’ll be halfway in before you know it. I can’t wait to see how she’ll deal with all the loose ends that are still in play. I’ve read the book twice already, and still am finding parts that I didn’t catch on my first read. Read her books-enjoy the ride! *I received and ARC of this book to read, and this is my honest opinion.
Book 17 of the Dark Kings series features Cain and Noreen in an enemies to lovers story with developments in the other storylines in this series, e.g. Rhi, Erith, and Con's HEA. The main story revolves around Cain and Noreen. Noreen, a Dark Fae affiliated with the Others, the big bads of the story. Noreen tips off the Dragon Kings about possible danger and gets caught by the Dragon Kings. Did you really think you can fool the tech-savvy dragon? Noreen agrees to help the Dragon Kings and Cain is suspicious of her, but it doesn't stop him from lusting after her. Things do get a little confusing with some timey-wimey flashbacks and hints about who Rhi's Dragon King was. The ending scene leaves readers on such a cliffhanger about Con and his HEA. I thought Flame was along the same vein as the previous Dragon Kings books. MCs meet, there's attraction, conflict, danger, and banging/mate talks. Y'know, standard stuff in a rushed manner. This time around, it seemed a little different with the time skipping and memory manipulation. Ahhhhh!
Flame is Cain’s and Noreen’s story. From the beginning it is realized that this will be an “enemies to lovers” story. Donna Grant does a marvelous job of making them both likable and have you rooting for them to completely trust one another. Not an easy task for the rest of the Dragon Kings to do though. In each story including this one the romance is complete and the overall story is moved along. However like the other stories in the series the revelations lead to more reader questions and predictions. Still it shouldn’t be long now before all is resolved. Every book gets the Dragon Kings closer and closer to the big show down.
Flame is book seventeen in the Dark Kings series so this is not the book to start reading first in the series. The overarching theme is very complex and complicated with many characters on both sides, even switching sides at times. However, for the fans this is a welcome addition leaving you with wanting more.
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
