Gone with the Rogue by Amelia Grey
I received this as an arc in return for a honest review. From page one I knew I would love the heroine Julia. She is full of spirit. Julia is a widow with a young son and an overbearing father in law who is trying to control both her sons and her life. She unexpectedly meets Garrett. And feels an instant attraction to him. Meeting Garrett helps her realize that she doesn’t want to be controlled by her father in law. She is a young woman and wants to find love. Garrett is just the person to help. Together they find a way to help each other and build a life together. I highly recommend this book!!
Gone with the Rogue by Amelia Grey is a daring read. A young widowed mother is seeking ways to prove her father-in-law inst the righteous man he has everyone believing. But to do that, she needs to find the proof. A rogue but also a gentleman, Garrett gives her some ideas where to look. He's also attracted to the adventure seeking Lady who climbs trees to release a butterfly. Lady Julia isn't a boring lady like society would expect her to be. She ends up breaking all of their rules and disappoints her father-in-law all the time. Julia is worried about losing her son. Garrett is set on seeing Julia as much as possible.
Danger, high risks, and a giant emotional pull made this novel a wonderful read. I enjoyed following each of the protagonists as they delved deeper in their journeys. Romance sizzled between them. I felt the desire lace the pages as I dug further into the book. Their dialogue was also entertaining. Overall, Gone with the Rogue is a must read for all who love romance, adventure, and bold characters.
The title was perfect...althought I was skeptical at first. But it didn't disappoint. Enjoyed this story, immensely. Looking forward to Amelia Grey's next one.
I had a hard time connecting with this book. I’m not entirely sure why, because I loved how much Garrett wanted to help and protect and I loved how Julia would do anything to protect her son. I felt as if some parts were drug out too much while others felt a bit rushed. I really enjoyed the interactions between Garrett and Julia. I do wish there had been more times with Garrett and Chatwyn, I would have really liked to have seen their relationship grow.
This was an enjoyable read and a fun escape. It was charming and I enjoyed the characters.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Julia finds herself stuck in a tree when she tries to rescue a kite. When Garrett comes to her rescue, she finds her life turned upside down. As a widow, she wants to get back into the world, but her father in low, the duke, has said that he will take her son away from her if she doesn't live a virtuous life. So as much as she is attracted to Garrett, she is not about to jeopardize having her son in her life. If only she could find a way to get the duke to back off...
Garrett has had one mistress for most of his life, the open sea. But he has come to the point in his life when he starts to want more. When he mets Julia, he realizes that she is what he needs in his life. But she has reservations about getting involved with him. Can he get her to open up enough to help them both get what they want?
I really enjoyed Julia and Garrett's story. I loved the bantering between these two and how they were able to get the duke to back away from his threat of taking Julia's son away from her. This was a great addition to the First Comes Love series.
I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me through NetGalley. This book was just absolutely wonderful. It was just so easy to get lost in and I just couldn’t put it down. I just lost myself within this amazing story. I most definitely will read more by this author.
Gone With the Rogue is the second novel in author Amelia Grey's First Comes Love series. Julia Fairbright's husband was lost at sea, leaving her pregnant and under the thumb of her father-in-law, a preacher with very strict morals who refused to let her and her young son live on their own once she had given birth. She chafed at his Puritan ethics and wanted nothing more than her freedom. Fortunately, she overhears a conversation and when he takes ill, she takes her son to London to keep him from getting sick and with an ace up her sleeve, embarks on a quest to prove he is not the man everyone thinks he is.
Upon arriving in London, she meets Garrett Stockton, owner of a shipping company and known rake who it is rumored has a woman in every port and several in London. She is immediately smitten, as is he, but can he help her in her quest?
This novel was very entertaining, but with the love interest being introduced immediately and the rest of the novel being will they/won't they when you know they eventually will, it was somewhat anticlimactic. Still a nice read though. Thank you to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
This was a fun historical romance, but it wasn't particularly riveting! the main characters had decent chemistry, and the secondary characters added some great texture to the plot.
4.5 Stars
This was the second book in the series but the first I have read as well as the author being new to me. It can be read as a standalone book although I am planning to go back and read the first. I will let y’all know after I do if it makes a difference in reading this one.
Julia is attempting to blackmail her father-in-law so she and her son can get out of his house and out from under his control. As a widow her options are limited but she needs a little help with the blackmail first.
That is where Garrett comes in. After spend most of his time at sea he is on land for his friend’s wedding. When in meets Julia he convinces her to let him help gets the evidence she needs to take control of her life.
I must say I enjoyed this story so much. Julia and Garrett are booth great characters. Julia’s father-in-law makes me want to throttle him. That man was the perfect villain for this book.
I enjoyed the first one (4 stars) and was looking forward to the rest of the series, but this book fell flat compared to the first book. While the plot line was pretty standard, but there was nothing new added to the story. Which is okay, sometimes I want just a decent historical romance.
I like the characters, but this book in the series spent a lot of time with other characters than with the main ones who made the story lag even more.
Compared to an excellent first in the series to the second, I am not sure if I want to continue. I think I am more disappointed with how different this book is to the first.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin's for an honest review.
This was just not my cup of tea, I think I was spoilt by reading a brilliant HR just before I started this, but I found this difficult to finish.
It was a regular pot, which is completely fine. It does need to be done well though. Lady Julia Kitson-Fairbright has been widowed, and her husband was lost at sea. As a young woman she eloped with the third son of a duke to avoid being married off to an older man, the duke has never forgiven her for thwarting his ambitions for his son, and now she is widowed with a son, he is using the threat of taking her son away to force her to live with him and follow his orders including how to raise her son, what to wear, and not to socialise with any men.
She has managed to get to London with her son, as the duke has fallen ill, and on a trip to the park she is rescued by Garrett Stockton, a shipping magnate and son of a gentleman who has been slightly shunned from society for engaging in trade.
Julia is determined to find evidence of the outwardly moral and uptight Duke of Sprogsfield’s shady business deals and lack of concern for people injured by an explosion at one of his buildings. She wants to use the threat of exposing him to free herself and Chatwyn, her son.
Garrett and a Julia are immediately mutually attracted to each other, can Julia trust Garrett to help her, can she find the evidence she needs, and will she be able to trust in an HEA with Garrett after being controlled by a man for so long.
The problem with this is there was so much filler, the dialogue was stilted and dull, the author kept telling us how much they desired each other, and how much they wanted to kiss each other, over and over, rather than showing us. I found the whole thing a bit contrived and too childish.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and all opinions are my own.

Delightful, romantic historical fiction. I enjoyed Gone with the Rogue very much and think anyone that loves a good historical romance novel will too.
This book was really boring to me. Neither of the main characters were compelling in any way. It was all very lackluster, even the more "steamy" scenes were a bore, if only because this book is practically a closed-door romance.
This is the second book in a series, but it can be read as a standalone (I hadn't read the first book and was fine/didn't feel lost or anything). The story was a good one, but the h was challenging for me to like. The H was definitely swoon-worthy, though! Overall, and okay read,
This is the second book in this series and follows Julia, Lady Kitson. She is the widowed daughter in law of a pious, overbearing Duke who threatens to keep her son from her if she does not follow the rigid lifestyle he has set out for her. By a stroke of luck, the Duke becomes very ill and Julia takes her son to London so that they will not catch the illness. There she meets Garrett Stockton and they are instantly attracted to one another. He is determined to help her get out from beneath the Dukes thumb.
I actually quite liked this book! I know many have given poor reviews. It took me a couple chapters to really get into it, but I finished the last half of this book in a little over a day. Sure it was a bit predictable and cutesy, but I found I really liked all the characters and was really invested in seeing them all get their HEA. I thought Garrett was lovely, and the side story with Brina was great and made me very interested to read her story. This book was easy to read and it was perfect for me at this time when things can so easily be anxiety inducing. Happy ending, romantic, satisfying.
I really enjoyed the plot and the characters in this book and I hope to read more books from the author in the future.
It didn't grab my attention like I thought it would or wanted it to. I liked the characters and the plot was okay, but it all felt flat. Like there was no depth there. I would be willing to read more by her in the future though.
This was a wonderful story with interesting and likeable characters, from the first page i was hooked
I received a copy and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion
Love the Beautiful cover!!!
Loved Hero Garrett Stockton, Julia was just an OK character in the 2nd in the series .
This one never really took off for me. I really enjoyed the first novel. Had hoped to enjoy this one as well.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!
