As an avid reader with a love of book stores, The Lost and Found Bookshop was very appealing. The main character, Natalie, has grown up in a bookshop with her eclectic mother. She 'escapes' the bookshop, but ends up responsible for it following a tragedy. The bookshop is very much a part of Natalie's life and the different paths she has taken because of it. Reading this made me wish the shop really existed.
Definitely calls for the suspension of disbelief with all the treasures found in the decrepit building where the bookstore is housed.
Also, was this necessary: "Then they smoked some weed from her small supply in the drawer of the nightstand..."?

I read this thinking I may be a tiny bit bored with the story since it was not my usual thriller that I enjoy, but I wanted to change it up. However, I was wrong! This book is about books, family, choices, and love; and with the love of books that we all have, the bookshop was a great character in this book.! The grandfather was such a great character also, All the feels. I will be reading more from this author, I loved the style of writing, which was full of heart. Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to find more authors to love!
This was a nice quick read. I could feel for the characters. A good escape read into a lighter place. I enjoy a story about someone building something up from scratch. This had a bit of that. I found it uplifting and inspiring.
This is listed as the third book in the Bella Vista Chronicles. I haven't read the other two but I did get the impression when introduced to other characters that they must have made a previous appearance in other books. Natalie moves back home to live with her ailing grandfather and run the family bookshop that her mother left behind. She hires a guy named Peach to do some much needed repairs and starts dating a children's book author. There's a treasure hunt and some historical fiction in the form of letters because the bookshop is old. I was put off by Natalie's ability not to find anything about the people surrounding her yet she's an open book. How hard is it to stop assuming and just out right ask if he's married? I liked the setting of the bookshop.
There are not enough words to say how wonderful this is! Enjoyed immensely.
I received a free copy from the the publisher and Netgalley.
I loved everything about this book. I was sad and happy while reading it and couldn't put it down. When I did have to put it down, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Wonderful characters, beautiful love stories from many generations, appreciation of history and place and OF COURSE a love of books. Delightful!
What a joy! This book gives you all the feels! Natalie suffers a terrible tragedy that leads her back to the bookshop she grew up resenting, taking all of her mother’s time. She slowly uncovers how special a life her mother gave her and what they shared! Highly recommend this one!
I love books and someone suggested this to me. I tried it.. It was released by the time I got to it. I tried the audio AND the book and it was just boring for me. This will be a hit though. Susan Wiggs has a following. Just wasn't for me.
This is a formulaic sweet-and-sad book about a woman, Natalie, who loses her mother and her boyfriend in the same plane accident and "starts over" by taking on her mother and grandfather's bookshop. It's a charming little book, but Wiggs tries to pack far too much detail in here for my taste (especially about the side characters).
Excellent!
I love books about books, whether it takes place in a library, bookstore, or is merely about books. There is something so special about a book that has novels at its center.
After a tremendous shock and a heartwrenching tragedy, Natalie finds herself plus one bookshop and minus one grandfather. With the grief ever mounting, she trudges forward and to her surprise forges a path to self-discovery.
There is something so unique and cozy about Wigg's writing. I really, really like this book and I would definitely recommend it.
A very fun feel good book that is just perfect for these times. When you think you have your life planned and you are on a path to a successful though boring life. How do you cope when life is suddenly unknown and problems around every corner? Love makes all thing right.
I have to say, I love a good romance and this was adorable. I love the relationships involving the grandfather, just knowing people are looking after him and that he has such a rapport with customers. Oh, set in a bookstore, yeah, gotta love that!
The Lost and Found Bookshop has all the requirements for a great read (though the cover is Awful!) but it was missing feeling-- don't get me wrong, there were plenty of feelings in the novel but they felt flat and worse, were told instead of letting the reader "watch the show/plot." I love Susan Wiggs' writing so much but aside from a fantastically done setting, this never quite gelled for me. I hope the pb edition gets a much better cover, as I think that will pick up traffic for the book.
I hope her nex one is stronger because her novels can and have been marvelous!
This authors books are usually beautiful and captivating. This book didn’t disappoint. Love, loss, work drama, childhood memories, and love again. This book had me captivated from beginning to end and I feel so blessed to be given the opportunity to read it. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Natalie's mother and boyfriend are killed in a plane crash. Now Natalie must pick up the pieces of her life in order to care for her grandfather and herself while trying to save her mother's bookstore from financial ruin. This is a wonderful story of family, friendship, romance, small business, and books. It is quite sad, as Natalie deals with her grief throughout the entire book, but there is also hope.
Natalie Harper is the pjcture of a successful survivor. Her life changes completely after two tragedies rocks her world. She decides to take over the care and management of her mother's bookstore. A lovely grandparent, a love interest, and a young girl come i to her life and show her what is truly special. A gem.
Despite a somewhat harrowing beginning, The Lost and Found Bookshop is a fun, light read that’s perfect for book lovers who love reading about everything books.
This book is # 3 in the Bella Vista Chronicles series, but I didn’t read the first two and didn’t feel like I was trying to play catchup.
The story is about a young professional, Natalie, who is left to care for her fragile Grandfather, Grandy, and her mother’s beloved bookshop after her mother’s sudden death. The store has a ton going for it - it's charming, has great community support, and is located in a desirable neighborhood. But, it also has some major flaws. The building is falling apart, and the business does not generate enough revenue to sustain itself. Despite her grief and a stable career in wine country, Natalie has to make it all work while also juggling romantic attention from two polar-opposite suitors.
The story moves along nicely, albeit somewhat predictably. The main characters are all well-developed. Grandy is one of my favorite characters, as I am a sucker for the young girl/skip-a-generation men genre (ala A Man Called Ove, and The Story of Arthur Truluv). He has a fascinating backstory which explains the sentimental value of the Bookshop’s building, and the apartment they reside in above the shop. He also has a strong, and admirable, moral compass. My only disappointment was in some of the supporting characters, like Natalie’s best friend. They seemed more like props there to guide Natalie or move the plot along, rather than true characters.
Three out of five stars for The Lost and Found Book Shop. Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Lost and Found Bookshop is a beautiful story of coming home again, grief, and starting over. Of remembering the past and using it to build a future. Of discovering where you came from and how you got to where you are now. Of family, friends, books, hope, and love. It is funny and bittersweet and might make you cry, but it's very much worth it.
What a delightful story! Great characters! It is a sweet and heartfelt novel - full of good people and life lessons! Love the title - so spot on - The Lost and Found Bookshop! There are wonderful things lost as well as found among the bookshop shelves. Always support your local independent bookstore! This is an entertaining, enchanting read! A little whimsy and a little romance and a whole lot of a love of books!
