I have a thing for books where the main characters win the lottery. I love exploring how winning the lottery changes their life. This book met and exceeded my expectations. I really loved this book. I will interview Julie for the podcast. i will also feature this book in a book recommendations podcast episode.
Everyone fantasizes about winning the lottery. Pennell tells a story of three sisters, all struggling financially, who actually do win. Hanna, Callie, and Lexie are all barely getting by and when they win big, Hanna enrolls her kids in private school and buys a new house, Callie gets a makeover and a new job, and Lexie plans an over-the-top wedding.
But, things don't work entirely as hoped for. Hanna isn't welcomed by the private school moms, Callie misses her old job, and Lexie's fiancee isn't thrilled with the wedding plans. Read the book to learn how they cope with their winnings...and fantasize a bit about what you would do if you won! A fun escapist read!
I really enjoyed the author's first book, and this one held up just as well. I've been struggling to get pulled into stories lately, and this one definitely broke that cycle. This is a cute story about friendship, and romance, with the all important lesson that money isn't everything. But honestly, who hasn't dreamed about being able to go into a store or salon and saying "Ill take one of everything?"
This is a perfect summer read! This was such a heartwarming story about 3 sisters who win the lottery. Great story about loving who you are and what you have in life. Thank you for my advanced copy I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I received an ARC of this book. It was a great summer read. I read it in 24 hours. I think we have all dreamed about what we would do with lottery winning. This book covers it from three vantage different points. The Breaux sisters could be anyone else. They are easy to love..and you have to root for each one of them. This book was realistic as well. However, it contained the right amount of romance as well! If you are looking for something fun and upbeat this book is for you.....it is fun reading about dreams that come true!
While I don’t believe that “money is the root of all evil,” I also know that money can be a problem. Everyone thinks they could be happy with more money…but it’s not true. It’s better to find your happiness with without relying on money because relationships, love, family, and friendships are priceless. In Louisiana Lucky we get three sisters who win the lottery and go from busted broke (as in can’t fill their gas tanks up) to so loaded with cash they couldn’t spend it all in one lifetime. But, as many people find…money can corrupt and money can disappoint, and money can ruin perfectly good relationships. This was a sweet story about rich, poor, or in-between…there is something good that can come out of something lucky. Cute story and perfect for those of us who enjoy an uplifting tale. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ @juliepennell #juliepennell @netgalley @simonandschuster #rich #poor #lotterywinner #priceless .

When 3 Louisiana sisters win the lottery - they don’t think their millions will change them one bit.
Lexi, Callie and Hanna just need a little bit of money to get ahead...right?
Lexi wants the wedding of her dreams. Hanna wants her children in a good school and Callie goes after a dream job as a TV reporter.
When the dust settles will the sisters still be just as lucky?
Winning the lottery and having your dreams come true is such a cute premise. With the relationships between the sisters, it was entertaining and enjoyable for a weekend read. It’s not something I would recommend as a must read but a nice choice as a quiet summer read.
First off, I love a good Southern tale and this novel totally delivers. While there is some romance, that's definitely not the focus and that's what makes it special. The focus is on the strong sisterly bond because that's the heart of this story. Each sister has a strong and intriguing point of view yet very different, and equally interesting to read. It's a quick read that you won't want to put down with language so descriptive it feels like a movie is playing out in your head. It's the story of three optimistic girls thrust into a new world that's never as it seems. The majority of the book though, I feel like I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Everything just felt too perfect and then boom, at the end, and rather abruptly, there's a gutwrenching twist that blows up everything they thought they needed. I honestly didn't think it was possible to wrap up the story and hot mess that erupted in just about forty pages but it was, and it was even better than what I could have imagined. It was a lovely HEA because it was earned and authentic, not some sugarcoated fantasy. Very cute.
Although formulaic and predictable, the book was still an enjoyable quick read. Three sisters, Callie, Hanna and Lexie, win the multi million dollar lottery, imagining that all of their dreams would now come true. Hanna wants a dream home and private school for the kids, Lexi wants a big, lavish wedding and Callie wants to fall in love and move on from her small town journalism career. Of course it all backfires, but the sisters have some fun, and you will too. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
A charming and heartwarming story of three sisters, with beautiful writing that takes you right to the streets of Louisiana. While the book may have had it's share of cliches and I saw the endings for all 3 girls coming from a mile away, it was a very satisfying read that I read quickly in two sittings. The storyline of this book with "the family that wins the lottery and all the problems it causes in there life" may be a little overdone in pop culture, but the writing itself was really really good, in particular the theme of sisterhood and the bond the three women shared, very familiar to the writing of Kristy Woodson Harvey. I enjoyed it. I very much look forward to reading whatever Julie Pennell publishes next.
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for providing the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Julie Pennell’s book, Louisiana Lucky, was a cute read. It was about 3 sisters, more on the poorer side of life, who won the Louisiana Lottery. The money drastically changes their lives, as you would suspect. Out of the 3 sisters, Lexi’s storyline was the easiest to believe. She used her money for an over-the-tip wedding. Callie’s storyline was the most unbelievable. She’s an investigative reporter, who doesn’t seem to question why a hot guy suddenly likes her, after she wins the money. I was indifferent to Hallie’s storyline. She splurges on a lifestyle she’s always been envious of. Overall, it was a cute read. But it’s not a book I would highly recommend.
Well, I had been hearing a lot of fuss over this book for ages, so it seems. When a book gets a lot of "hype" I actually, typically, stay away. However, something made me click the 'request' button on Netgalley, and I'm so glad I did!
I love stories of friendship. This story finds Lexie, Callie, and Hanna all hoping to cash in big with the lottery. They have been playing for years. Winning the lottery for each of them would mean very different things.
The character development of the three friends was fantastic. I felt like I really knew and was close to these women. I also felt the pacing in this book was perfect. I understand now why there is so much hype for this book. Deservedly so. Quite so.
This story was cute — the idea of winning the the lottery and all your dreams come true. I enjoyed reading the relationship between the three sisters. I personally didn’t think the story was one I’d tell my friends it is a must-read, but again, it was a cute story to pick up and read.
It is everyone's fantasy to win the lottery, so it is easy to relate to these three somewhat down on their luck sisters who win big time. As we suspect, money doesn't always bring happiness or solve every problem, and that turns out to be true here. Lots of complications, lots of romance, a fast-paced plot and appealing characters make this a great read!
This book had a very interesting premise: 3 sisters win the lottery together and it changes their lives, although not necessarily in the ways they'd hoped for. It was a quick and easy read, the characters were well described and likeable, but something about this book fell flat for me. I did finish it, but was disengaged and rushing toward the end.
Maybe it just didn't work for me, but I'm sure there are many others who would enjoy this happy ending book.

Who says don't judge a book by its cover? Julie Pennell's latest effort, Louisiana Lucky, is just as adorable in its content as its cupcake-covered cover.
Three sisters win the Louisiana lottery, each winding up with 22 million dollars-- life changing money for anyone. What I loved about this book is that, as fun as the book is itself, it has the added fun of putting yourself in that space. It stirred up thoughts of 'what would I do with that money', as I'm sure is the intention. In that way, it's more of a collaborative, experiential book than most. All three storylines are sort of ridiculously predictable, as all three protagonists move along what is essentially the same arc, from barely getting by financially and emotionally, to the initial highs afforded by their new, spendy lifestyles. Not surprisingly, they're all brought back down to face the old cliche, 'money can't buy you happiness', or else some milder version of the curse of lottery winners. In the end, after they've learned their lessons, so to speak, all is well. Each emerges better for having experienced hardship (wiping their tears with money, I would imagine), but we as readers are left satisfied that the grass isn't always greener.
While the book isn't groundbreaking, it's well-written and delivers exactly what it promises: a cute story, likable characters, romance, and sisterhood. It offers a wonderful bout of escapism, which is particularly welcome at this time, given the current state of the world. I'd definitely like to read The Young Wives Club.
Rating: 3.5/5, rounded up for NG.
Follow the three Breaux sister’s through their ups and downs after winning the lottery. This is a fast read with some fun twists. As a Louisiana native,I was happy to see that there were not the usual Louisiana stereotypes. Highly recommend.
You know how sometimes the right book comes along at the right time? This one is exactly that. It's predictable and fluffy, just exactly what I needed right now to have a break from the craziness that is the real world right now. In fact, I liked this one so much that I went and ordered a copy of Ms. Pennell's first novel. If you like your books sweet and fluffy, you'll love this book,.
The premise is interesting but the characters too blind to their flaws with none of the friends trying to help each other steer the new world they've become a part of
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc
