Incredible read!!! Took me a bit to get into it, but once I started I couldn’t stop! The twists and turns kept me reading into the night! Loved this book! Well done!!!
Really enjoyed this. Loved the storyline and how it made me feel as though I was there. Good strong characters with a storyline that kept me engaged all the way through. Not as predicable as I though it would be! A very good thriller.
Highly recommended to all.
Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookoutoure for the advanced copy of this book.
Why it took me so long to read I will never know, but I am so glad I got to read this.
A very dark and twisty tale, which gripped me for the first page and kept me gripped. The characters were great and I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good twisty read.

I tried The First Wife a few times, and just couldn't become invested in it. I definitely want to try it again though, and will update this if I ever get through it.
A dark and twisty story, gripping from the very first page. I loved it and would recommend it very highly
Having read Invisible Girl by this author, I was keen to see if The First Wife was as good. Yes it was! Hooked me from the beginning and didn't let go until the very end! Recommended
I had no idea what this was about going in. Suspenseful, dark & twisty. I LOVED IT! I really enjoy the alternating viewpoints as well. Not the most likable characters, but that seems to work for me! Thanks so much for letting me read this, will definitely recommend! (and reread!)
I love stories told through multiple POV. You see the different perspectives as two sides of the story bind to make one that does not quite match either POV. Jill Childs has given us the story of two friends that were close when young but grew apart while living different lifestyles. The communications between the two give pictures of busy, successful women who are living the lives they dreamed of. The reality is not quite what each has painted for the other. That's the back story to the mystery surrounding Sophie's visit to her friend Caroline's family home where she will meet for the first time Caroline's moody husband and troubled toddler. Caroline's part of the story tells of her life journey and the tensions she is facing now. Sophie's part tells of how her friend is barely recognizable as the girl she knew and the adult she thought she knew. Both are drawn to help Caroline's daughter, a traumatized 3 yr old that has quit speaking. This story is a unique one and the clues Ms Childs provides kept me looking at the wrong guilty party. I'm very happy to have found another writer that will keep me guessing.
Thank you so much for this ARC!
I had such high hopes for this book! I tried multiple times to start reading but sadly it just did not capture my interest. The beginning of this book was too slow and I had no interest in learning what was happening next.
Maybe next time!
The First Wife by Jill Childs is a dark and suspenseful domestic thriller packed full of lies, secrets, and deception.
This book started off very slowly but seemed to pick up about the middle. I loved the twists in it and the ending was superb. It was narrated by two characters Sophie and Caroline.. Sophies story was in the present and Caroline was in the past. It had me guessing it had it all... suspense and emotional.
a brilliant domestic thriller that I raced through. Great characters, EXCELLENT setting, perfect pacing and a great mystery at the heart of it. I love books that suck you into their world and you feel like you’re right there with the characters and I was so drawn into this novel that I feel like I’ve lived through it! So brilliant.
This book was the right kind of addictive. I loved how the characters developed. It was a perfect book to read at the end of the day. Highly recommend!
The First Wife by Jill Childs was a brilliant read which is full of secrets, lies, deception and very creepy throughout, with a fantastic twist at the end of this brilliant book. Especially as I did not see that coming! I love a book that does that.
I highly recommend it.
Big Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed the idea of expats returning to their home country. The story line felt a bit contrived at times, but the plot twist was interesting. I'd recommend saving this for the fall rather than as a beach read. I'll look for more Jill Childs.
Really enjoyed this book, although I think the penny dropped for me a little earlier than the main character.
Well written, decent plot and characters to invest in (although not all of them), what more can you ask for from a read?
This is the first book that I’ve read by Jill Child’s and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was hooked from the first chapter. Sophie, who is struggling after the death of her father, receives an email from Caroline inviting her to visit and stay at her lovely remote beach house in Cornwall. Caroline and Sophie were childhood friends. They haven’t met up since then but have kept in touch over the years by letters and emails. On arrival Sophie finds that Caroline seems to have changed and is very distant. Dominic, Caroline’s husband, doesn’t welcome her and their three year old daughter Lucy has recently stopped speaking and is acting very strangely. Sophie begins to feel that all is not well. The chapters alternate between Caroline and Sophie points of view and we are taken back to events in their childhood. We realise that Caroline suffers with her mental health and her crumbling marriage and that Sophie’s concerns, especially for Caroline, have to be resolved. This book is full of secrets, lies and tension and is a highly recommended read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Wonderful! I found it a book that held my attention. Well written and developed. Such good descriptions. Had me on the edge of my seat..... Would definitely read other books by this author when available.
I loved this book right from the beginning. It flipped between Sophie and Caroline's stories, and every chapter kept you gripped. And although you thought you knew what had happened - you didn't.
