Daddy's Girls by Danielle Steel Likeable fast read about three sisters and how their lives change after the death of their domineering father. A classic family tale with a fanciful ending. A treat for Danielle Steel fans.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
Danielle Steel and I go way back. I’ve been reading her books religiously for more than 25 years, so I knew I would love her latest offering, and I was not disappointed. Her books are comfort food for my soul, and this one gave me everything I’ve come to expect from her, and maybe even more.
It’s the story of three sisters: Kate, the devoted daughter who has dedicated her life to helping their father on his ranch; Caroline, the sophisticated wife and mother who has distanced herself from her rural roots; and Gemma, the successful actress and Daddy’s favorite. When their father suddenly dies, the three women must come together to take care of business and to learn to appreciate each other and the man who had raised them. But did they really know their father? They soon realize that he had secrets, secrets that threaten everything they thought they knew about their lives.
This is a quintessential Danielle Steel novel, and in it, I found the familiar components that I had savored in some of my favorite older books of hers. With its focus on the relationship of sisters persevering through tragedy, it is reminiscent of Kaleidoscope and Sisters, and it has the Western atmosphere of The Ranch and Palomino. Of course, at its heart, it is a tale of three strong women discovering themselves and their purposes in the world, while learning to forgive the past, to bask in the present, and to joyfully anticipate the future, and Danielle Steel is the queen of penning those types of stories.
All of Ms. Steel’s strengths resurface in Daddy’s Girls. She has created well-developed characters that you can root for in this chronicle of a family’s resilience. While she explores the way in which these women navigate the choppy waters of life, she presents a sentimental, yet realistic, account of love in all its forms.
Daddy’s Girls checks all the blocks on the list of things I look for in a story of this kind, generally, and in a Danielle Steel novel, specifically. It’s a perfect choice for her loyal fans of many years and for those looking to stick their toes in the water and trying her for the first time. I hope you enjoy it. I certainly did.
I thoroughly loved reading the sensational novel by the phenomenal author, Danielle Steel. When Kate, Gemma, and Caroline's father dies, he leaves each of them one-third of the sprawling ranch. Kate, who worked alongside her father on the ranch with the foreman, Thad; Gemma, her dad's favorite, an actress on a TV series; and Caroline, an author, married and with children. Read the highly recommended and wonderfully written story about three sisters and how each of their lives changed after the death of their father.
I reviewed a copy of the book through NetGalley.
I thought this book was great! Can’t wait for the next one. Daniele Steel is a great author. I’m a Daddy’s girl so I could connect with this book easily.
I don’t normally give books half star ratings, but this book was a solid 4.5 stars! I wanted to rate it with five stars, but I felt like something small was missing for that, although I honestly don’t know what that thing was. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Tucker sisters as they navigate life following a tragedy. Three very different personalities, these three sisters had to learn to deal with things they never expected. I loved the dynamic between all three of them, and was sad that this book ended when it did!
I find myself enjoying Danielle Steel books now as much as I had years ago. I admit they might not be great literature but they are charming and lovely to spend time with.
Daddy’s Girls are 3 sisters, raised by a super macho, domineering father. His untimely death becomes the catalyst for tremendous changes in the lives of the 3 women.
Despite the fact that I generally don’t like books set on ranches, this deals with broad themes which made it very interesting. Of course, one must suspend disbelief, but well worth it to enjoy the closure and happiness of the 3 very likable sisters.
Thank you Netgalley for this opportunity.
"It was his way or the highway, and some of us took the highway."
Danielle Steel has been one of my favorite authors since being a teenager. She writes stories and I often would feel like I was in the middle of it! And she doesn't disappoint with this one either.
"Change is in the air."
Texas ranch hand, JT Tucker loads his three young babies up and heads for Santa Ynez Valley, California. After much hard work, he becomes one of the most successful ranches around. Kate stays at the ranch, desperate for the approval of JT, and Gemma, the favorite and the apple of her father's eye, goes off to Hollywood and stardom and Caroline, the youngest and ignored by her father runs away and becomes a successful writer, wife and mother.
Tragedy strikes and they are all together again and left with a secret their father never revealed.
"We were all Daddy's Girls, and if he were standing here today, he would say the that himself."
Don't miss picking up this fantastic novel when it comes out in June.
Thank you to author, publisher, and Netgalley for this eARK
Danielle Steel is one of my favorite, if not favorite authors and this book did not disappoint, I loved the premise of the sisters lives and it kept my interest throughout. I'd recommend it highly.
It seems like I saw a television movie with this story. This is a character driven novel with a predictable story line. The language-just a few places-I can do without. I often wonder why authors maintain that they have to put curse words somewhere in their books. Don’t! The sisters remain close-despite hints going wrong in their lives-his is almost a fairy tale-unbelievable how things always seems turn out. This is a light, fast read and if one likes to rit as about ranches, that subject is in this book. Enjoy.
Family dynamics create a descent of expectations for the Tucker siblings. Katie is a born horsewoman and craves her father's respect. Gemma, is the star of her father's eye and Hollywood while Caroline locks herself away in the pages of books.
Gemma and Caroline write their own chapters while Katie stays behind in her father's shadow running the ranch. When a tragedy hits the Tuckers, it cracks open a safe of secrets. As the sisters seek shelter from the storm, a bright future awaits JT's Daddy's Girls.
This book is the story of three sisters who come together to deal with the effects of an domineering father and the problems each sister has. It was fun to watch each of the sisters deal with their problems , become close again and get their happy ever after. If you love Danielle Steele's books you will enjoy this one. (less)
The theme of this book is love and although the three sisters, Kate, Gemma and Caroline, differed in looks, personality and perceptions of their father, they became stronger together than apart. Each gained their voice and as a result, got what they wanted and deserved. I always enjoy books that tell the story from multiple perspectives and this was no exception. Even though they may have started from simple beginnings, the rich tapestry of the Santa Ynez valley lenses a depth for them to realize how hard work and perseverance can lead to the richness of life all three deserved. The story of the introduction of their mother and the joy she brought was well woven into the book.
This book would be half as long if the author did not repeat everything more than once. I almost gave up but did follow through and finished the story. It started with Kate the pushover do everything Daddy said and ended with a happy ending for all three girls. Not sure I would have had the youngest daughter story end as it did but the middle daughter was pretty predicable. The story of their Mom I did not see coming. And as far as the Father I thought he was a jerk.
