I had a bit of a struggle getting through reading Fearless. That’s not saying I disliked it. There was just too much inconsistencies going on within the story.
The stalker storyline was ok.
The ending? Just seemed “off” and “rushed.”

I love Fern Michaels and her writing style. Unfortunately, this book was predictable from the beginning with some plot gaps. If this is your first Michaels book, you would probably enjoy the mystery aspect. Thank you to Netgalley for providing me a copy to review!

Fearless

by Fern Michaels

Anna Campbell, who pieced her life together after the unexpected death of her husband, is a busy and successful blogger able to support herself and her teenage daughter. Rich, famous, and kindheartedly generous, she is also a target for stalkers and scammers. Her business manager and best friend Mandy convinces her to go on a singles cruise. What should have been a fun adventure rapidly leads her down paths she will regret.

The main characters in Fern Michaels’ Fearless are well-developed, and the plot is interesting. I liked the Lubbock, Texas, setting and touring Anna’s large suite on the cruise ship and her expansive gated home with vlogging studio.I enjoyed the mix of romance with mystery. When I had to put the book away, I was always eager to return. Fearless includes criminal activities that require the characters and the reader to puzzle out events, identities, and motivations. The resolution of this story is disappointing. It is too rushed without enough explanation of the characters’ motivations many of which reach way back in time and others that are current. For example, there are two instances of the use of a date-rape drug. The usage is clear, but the motivation of the second attempt is unclear. This hurried ending resulted in less enjoyment for me. I will try another book by this prolific author in the future for comparative analysis.

I would like to extend my thanks to Netgalley and to Kensington Books for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: 4/5

Category: Women’s Fiction

Notes: 1. Includes a recipe for Anna’s Rib Rub.
2. Has a sprinkling of mild swearing

Publication: March 31, 2020—Kensington Books

Memorable Lines:

She looked out through the gates at the sweeping fields of bluebonnets that surrounded her house. Nothing made her feel more at home than those bluish purple flowers stretching out for miles. A uniquely Texan sight.

As she was standing eye to eye with him, she saw someone else. A man who was quick to anger, quick to judge. Not the man she thought she knew. Ryan had a temper, she realized. He’d shown it on multiple occasions, so why she was just now realizing it was beyond her comprehension…

“…he seemed cold to me, like his eyes were empty. Does that sound crazy or what?”

Fearless is a good suspense novel that you wont want to put down. As a reader it is easy to see that Ryan Robertson was not a man to be trusted and yet with everything that happened on the cruise ship Anna Campbell still invites him and his family into her and her daughters life. The book had a lot of twists that kept me reading but the ending seemed abrupt. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers of this book for a copy for my honest review. 4 out of 5 stars!

I love how this author writes. She has suspense, mystery, love, and tragedy all in one book and makes it flow like butter. Don't miss out on this great read.

I have read Fern Michels for years and loved her books, although lately, I am not enjoying them as much. Fearless is one such example. The main character, Anna Campbell, is single and goes on a cruise. She meets a man, Ryan Robertson, whom she has a one night stand with and then abruptly leaves the cruise. Back home in Texas, Anna and Ryan continue their romance, and Anna decides it’s time for their families to meet. There are troubled signs with Ryan and his children all through the book and Anna finally realizes the relationship has to end after her daughter is injured. The book is very disjointed and there is mention of a stalker that Anna has as well. The end of the book was much better organized than the beginning. I was disappointed in this latest Fern Michels' book.

After the tragic death of her husband when their daughter was a child, now single mother Anna Campbell has made a name for herself with vlog that covers routine but important daily activities such as cooking, celebrating holidays, decorating, etc. After much success, years later, as a treat, Anna agrees to go on a singles cruise, while her friend and co-worker takes her 13-year old daughter on a whirlwind trip to Disney. During the cruise, Anna meets Ryan. With Ryan, things move quickly—almost too quickly for her, and she abruptly leaves the cruise not long after it began, headed for home. As time passes, she and Ryan become frequent socializing partners. However, though she cannot pinpoint it, Anna (and her best friend) feel something is off with Ryan. Things come to a head during a disastrous Labor Day BBQ , involving Ryan and his two teenage children, Anna, her daughter Christina, her best friend and the elderly couple who help Anna around her house, when an ugly accident intrudes into their blissful lives. After this, thing spread quickly out of control, as Anna and her daughter and friends learn that what they see in Ryan and his children is not what is really there, with layers of secrets lying just below the surface.

This book has a plot that is definitely different. Kudos to the author for that. However, I am not so sure it is all that believable, though it makes for pretty- good reading. I found it interesting that Anna, portrayed as the careful, thoughtful, intelligent woman at the start of the book, acts so rashly with Ryan at the outset of the cruise. She also never does anything about what, to me, reads like a date rape evening, but just leaves the ship and later, when the questions about what really happened to her keep haunting her, goes to the ER to see if she has contracted a norovirus on the ship. Why she never did anything about that night with Ryan is beyond me—and, more so, why she lets herself be sucked into a relationship with him afterward. I agreed with the characters that there was something off about Ryan and his family, the seed of which the author succeeded in planting. The author did a good job with most of the characters, and the ending, which had a bit of a surprise to it, was interesting. This is, as I said, an unusual book in that the plot is not what you ordinarily find in a romance. The author did manage to pull it off. However, I have read most of her books and have decided this one will not rank among my favorites. It may just have been too different, and things may just not have gone all that well. In addition, the entire plot did sort of boggle my mind, as things happened that were a bit bizarre and beyond the norm. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

Fern Michaels is definitely a master story teller! This book was exciting, engrossing, mysterious and oh so delicious! Written in a very easy style, the reader is grabbed from the first word and the interest is held until the very last word!
I absolutely loved this read, and it did not disappoint.

I love Fern Michaels' books! Even though this isn't a sisterhood book, I loved it too. I think Anna was a bit too trusting, but don't we all know someone like that?! I love the author's characters, settings, and storylines. She really gets into people's heads. More please Fern!

Fern Michaels' Fearless is a mysterious and suspicious work of fiction. Anna is a successful widow and she is talked into taking a singles cruise by her assistant. She meets a man on the cruise that is also from her area of Texas and a relationship ensues. Anna overlooks several warning signs and images of a blended family with this man are taking shape. Things aren't what they seem and before it's too late Anna must save her family and the life that she had. Good mystery. Would recommend.

I have always loved reading stories by Fern Michaels. For All of their Lives, is my favorite book ever! I had a hard time getting into this story. Anna was not very likeable, weak, sickly, and for a big internet star with lots of money etc. she seems pretty spineless. Stalker storyline was interesting but I felt it pretty much fizzled out and then disappeared. I can't figure out how Anna was so gullible to let her daughter be in such danger from a new love interest-reg flags everywhere! Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Anna is a widowed mother, and also a YouTube star. Her friend and assistant gifts her a trip on a singles cruise, where she meets a Ryan. She leaves the cruise early, because she feels sick. Soon after returning home, she decided to contact Ryan. And the two begin a relationship. She meets Ryan’s two kids, a daughter the same age as hers, and an 18 year old son, soon off to college.
But after witnessing a few troubling things from Ryan, she begins questioning if their relationship is a perfect as it seems. Then and accident happens to her daughter and more troubling things come to like about Ryan and his kids.
I thought that this was an interesting book. And I enjoyed it. It did take me a bit to get into it, I did enjoy the story. I feel the characters were well written, and the story was told well. I did feel that there were some times it seems that there were too much explanations of things, that really didn’t seem to be important to the story. But overall it was a good read.

Fern Michaels books are always great reads, very intriguing. Anna Campbell, recently widowed, is going on a single's cruise. On this cruise she meets Ryan, and they both hit it off. When Anna goes home to Texas after the cruise, she finds Ryan on Facebook and they continue talking and want to make their relationship to the next level: meeting each other's children. As the relationship progresses, there are many warning bells going off and Anna really doesn't know Ryan as she might think.

I thought the writing was beautiful and very descriptive. I felt like I was in the story and enjoyed the character development for the most part, but I felt the story was just hard to get into and didn't like the whole cruise ship meet up then go straight into whatever type or relationship.

I liked this story and the characters but found Ann to trusting. Why would you give someone another chance and another when he acts like he does. To put your child in danger and to be with someone who’s children are so out there, as a mother it made me angry. I did read the whole book and I’m glad I finished it because I never would have guessed the ending. Fern Michaels has always been one to read.
