Killer Take All is a great addition to the MacCallister: The Eagles Legacy. I enjoyed this western and giving it four and a half stars.
Reading a Johnstone western is a reward for getting my chores done! While each book is an excellent read, each central character has their own series. You'll also find your favorites from some of their other series offering help and support to the current story. Told in a realistic tone and filled with lots of action as these men and women bring the law, or what passes as the law, to some of the wildest territories you'll ever see. The Johnstone characters, whether mountain men or wild west settlers, will quickly become old friends.
Duff MacCallister travelled from Scotland to build a better life in western America, one of many who believe that a man's destiny is his own to make. The town of Chugwater looks to become a boomtown as a railhead is proposed for their small settlement. Lots of hard working folks will benefit from this sign of prosperity. But Duff soon suspects that the men behind the proposal may not have the town's best interests in mind. As any Johnstone reader knows, our hero will not stand back and watch harm come to his family or neighbors.
If you love good westerns, you'll love any or all of the Johnstone books. If you've never been a fan of westerns, try some of the Johnstone ones, you'll change your mind!
Duff MacCAllister is an unlikely Scotsman-turned rancher and star of the the Johnstone's MacCallister series. In Killer Take All (Pinnacle Books 2020), Book 10 of the series, Duff has happily settled into the Western town of Chugwater herding cows and trying to talk the girl of his dreams into marrying him. When the railroad decides to come to their town, he along with everyone else is excited at the business, the population growth, and what it means for their connectivity to the rest of the world. Then the railroad starts to take advantage of their goodness with legal terms like 'eminent domain' (which may or may not apply) and by driving ranchers off the land they've lived on their entire lives. That's when Duff gets involved. He's not a rabble-rouser but he has a moral compass that spikes when injustice appears. What he finds out is nothing that he expected.
The Johnstone's write excellent stories about the life and times of the Old West. This isn't a series I've read before but I'm pretty excited that this book is #10 because it means I have 9 more great books to read. If you like westerns, you'll like this.

This one is going on auto. I find that the stories about Duff is more and more the same almost. I like a good western but it can be to trivial sometimes. Still it has what it needs regarding good guys and bad guys and some gunslinging. I have to thank Netgalley and Kensington for letting me read this.
