This is a high adventure slow burn romance. Anna and Gabe are two DEA agents tasked with gathering intel from a suspected drug running family, the Elsons. I liked that both characters were strong and accomplished people. No one needed bailing out of an unsavory situation. There was a lot of detailed information describing their actions as they set up and completed their undercover work and the equipment they used. I found the romantic part of the story very stilted. Their interactions as a romantic couple seemed strained and artificial. I understand the need to ask permission before invading another person’s personal space, especially in this environment post MeToo, but I found the constant questioning and checking in interrupted the flow both to the story line and my emotional connection to the characters.
It was great to read another book from the Wind Valley series by Lindsay McKenna. A plus that it was for Gabe, a sibling from Wind Valley Protector.
Gabe and Anna are both used to working solo undercover opps, but each bring unique talents to a new undercover assignment in his home town. There's no way he's letting Guatemalan Drug operations to infiltrate his hometown.
There's romance, suspense, and intrigue in the latest addition to this series. I enjoyed it and encourage you to read it too, even if you haven't read others in the series, as it can be read as a standalone story,
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
I found the story of Anna and Gabe very slow moving. It did pick up with the undercover story line farther in the book. This wasn't the first one in the series I have read and they all moved a little to slow to keep my interest.

Wind River Undercover is the ninth book in Lindsay McKenna’s Wind River Valley Series. This book is a romantic suspense novel with fantastic characters and a great storyline which adds to the Wind River Valley World that McKenna has created.
Anna Navaro and Gabe Whitcomb have been partnered up and sent to Wind River Valley to pose as new ranch-owners in order to get close to the Elson family and uncover their ties to the ruthless Gonzalez drug cartel. The connection and chemistry between Anna and Gabe was instant and intense but the couple vow to work on growing their friendship and trust while working undercover. But the heat between them grows stronger, and when danger surrounds them, Gabe and Anna quickly realize that the life they’ve built together is worth risking everything.
I discovered Lindsay McKenna and this series while searching netgallery. The cover drew my attention and once I read the synopsis I was hooked. I hate starting a series at the end, so prior to reading Wind River Undercover I read all the books in the Wind River Valley Series. I enjoyed them all and I thought that Gabe and Anna’s story was a great ninth book for the series.
I love the premise for this series. It’s about veterans from various branches of the armed forces and the struggles they faces once they leave the service. Both the heroes and heroines in McKenna’s books are good, strong characters with strong morals and personalities. I loved the details given to their backgrounds and storylines. My only complaint is that the conversations between the couples are overly sweet and repetitive throughout each book, while the intimate details between the couples where anticlimactic.
All the books in the Wind River Valley series contain a happily ever after and can be read as a standalone, however, reading it in order will give you a better appreciation for the characters and the overall series itself. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. Hopefully it will be Skye’s or Luke’s story.

Another wonderful story in this long running series We are now at the point where we are starting to get the stories of the children of the characters of the original books and that is who Gabe Whitcomb is he is Marge and Steve Whitcomb and a undercover DEA agent He is teemed with a sniper who is seconded from Guatemala Anna Navaro is a sniper but she also is the daughter of a man killed by the cartel she is investigating They move together into an abandoned ranch posing as the new owners close to the family they think is working with the Gonzalez cartel but even more worrying close to the home of his adoptive parents. To make matters worse she is also attracted to his new partner and the problem is she is also looking for something more than just her career Can these two find a new reason to live in one another You will have to read to see
An engaging and entertaining romantic suspense. Appreciated the slow get-to-know one another phase of the story. The action scenes were riveting. Running on foot, horseback, and in a truck, oh my. Nice family details. Actual communication between main characters. What a concept. I get frustrated when a little conversation would settle things in other books.
This merges action and romance in a lovely setting which is being despoiled by drug traffickers. Ana, a Guatemalan born sniper, has been detailed to assist Gabe, a DEA agent. The Gonzalez cartel has moved into Wind River and these two have been assigned to root them out and up. The cartel was responsible for the death of Ana's father so she's even more determined than ever to see the bad guys stopped. Of course, this is really a romance so you know that there's going to be some heat. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Fans of the slow burn colleagues to lovers story might try this one.
A Little Different: This time we have two DEA agents who take one last assignment. They are undercover and not undercover. Of course there is a big attraction as they work tighter. Again Lindsay has a theme running through the book and again she hits it with a sledge hammer. It is different this time. A good story and nice ending for the two main characters.
Wind River Undercover by Lindsay McKenna. This is the ninth book in the Wind River Valley series. The story takes place in a valley called Wind River in Wyoming. The harsh conditions of the land and the strength of the characters really go well together. I like how for the first few novels many of the characters were wounded veterans who came back and had to start all over again many with PTSD. In this particular novel we meet one of the children of Marge and Steve Whitcomb.
Gabe, one of their sons, works for the DEA. He has been undercover for the last 2 years. Anna is from Guatemala and has been trained as a sniper. She is on loan to the United States. Gabe and Anna are paired together to work on a case that is in Wind River Valley. Their job is to try to find out where the drugs are coming from and if the Elson are the local connection (drug dealers) they are looking for. This is particularly trying for Anna because this is the same group run by the same drug lord who killed her father. As always there is a lot of back-and-forth between Anna and Gabe. Eventually you understand that they have feelings for each other and those feelings are growing stronger and stronger. However they are trying to focus and do their job before they move forward.
Wind River Undercover is an excellent book to add to the series Wind River Valley. This book can be read as a stand-alone or can be read as part of the set. I enjoyed this book because of the thoughtful yet HOT relationship between Gabe and Anna. I also really like the setting of Wind River Valley and the different characters we have met along the way. Wind River Undercover by Lindsay McKenna is an excellent read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Net Galley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I haven’t read any of the Wind River series, this didn’t seem to matter since the story was of Anne and Gabe. The story is about two DEA agents working together as partners in Gabe’s hometown of Wind River. The story line is good, lots of action at the end. The characters themselves seemed to “corny”. I found to a little unbelievable that Anne and Gabe really would have acted as portrayed in the story. On the job they were great, but their personal life ..... not so believable.
I will read another in the series, maybe it’s just this story. If you read the other books, then do read Wind River Undercover. I for one find that if there are several books in a series, one may be lacking. This seems to be the one.
I am in love with this series by Lindsay McKenna and I’m always excited to get a new installment in the story. Great characters and awesome plot lines. I like books that have strong men and women with military backgrounds and respect and equality for each other. If you enjoy suspense and romance this one is for you! Thanks to NetGalley and the author and her publisher for letting me read an advanced copy of Wind River Undercover.
Wind River Undercover was an exciting book about two DEA agents Anna and Gabe come together to spy on suspected drug dealers in Gabe's hometown. One of them his old school friend when he was a child. It builds into an exciting circumstance that finds them hiding from shooting guns, and drug lords in the woods. Although the story is exciting, there is one scene in it that involves very detailed lovemaking that could have been done without, but the rest of the story was fairly clean.
Anna and Gabe work together with the DEA to fight against a drug lord who has plans to infiltrate the Wind River Valley. This book is part of a series of excellent stories about veterans getting their lives back together. This book was more about explanations of relationships, lives, and drug operations. Anna and Gabe’s relationship seemed forced, stilted and artificial. Unfortunately, this was not up to par with the other books in the series.
I enjoyed the book, but it was not my favorite of Lindsay McKenna's works. It had a good theme, but it felt a little like she was following a formula and then didn't go back and fully flesh out the story. So for me it was a little average, especially having read some of her other books.
I did find it odd that so much was made of the facts that Gabe had one ‘white’ parent and Anna was Castilian, as if trying to make them more palatable to readers. The emphasis throughout the book made it feel more off. The love story seemed wooden to me; it was without much emotion and came on with no warning, no buildup. What did feel real was the relationship between Gabe and his mother as well as the friendship and offer of care for the mother next door who was going blind. The thriller aspect was spot on. It kept me on the edge of my seat for pages toward the end.
In the end, while I find the book flawed, Lindsay McKenna has a huge and loyal following and I will be happy to present them with the newest addition.
Another hit in a great series. This one has Anna and Gabe being undercover to watch the neighbor's and their drug dealings. Things heat up and the fight is on. I did like this one, but at times it felt a little rushed and could have used more details and buildup. I was pleased to see at least one of the brothers was worth saving, and added a nice touch to the story. Would recommend this book and author.
Wind River Undercover, has a few of favorite types of romance novels together in one book. Cowboy's, military and law enforcement. I enjoyed reading it very much.
This book details the story of two DEA agents attempting to stop the movement of drugs into Wind River. Gabe is the brother of the characters introduced in the previous book. He has been assigned to work undercover with Anna. There is danger and romance, combined with a strong family unit. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was just an ok read for me. It had plenty of action and suspense! It was a little low on the steam factor to me also! It kind of bothered me in as it was a little to literal? Like one instance, she said " she wiped her mouth with the paper towel that was used instead of a napkin" that's not so bad but! That type of very meaningless descriptive nonsense was used a lot!! I felt myself saying "why would you tell me that?! I don't care about stupid stuff like that lol definitely more than once !! But besides that it wasn't a bad read! I would read more from this series it just bothered me some! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
