Recieved the book in exchange for a honest review. First off you need to read at least the first two books of this series to understand the background dialogue. It would be even better to have read all her shifter books then you can revisit some of the characters. This book had everything in it that makes you love Shelly Laurenston. Her writing is equal to no one. The way the characters interact with others is amazing. She doesn't just focus on the relationship of the two main characters she blends all of the characters in her book in. I would recommend this book even if you have never read any of her books. This book will hook you and then you won't be able to stop until you have read them all. Then you will be like us other fans waiting anxiously for the next book. Posted review on good reads.
Badger to the Bone is the third book in the Honey Badger Chronicles by Shelly Laurenston. A captivating paranormal fantasy romance that pulls you in from the beginning. Fall in love with the bold, take control sisters in this series. A story that shares the lives of these sisters that love living on the crazy train! While this can be read as a standalone novel, you will enjoy the series and understand the characters better if you read the books in order. A lovely read that is full of magic and is sure to stay with you long after reading.
This book is one I couldn’t stand the wait for!!!! Max. Oh my Max! I love these girls and I can’t see what happens next in the series. And, yes y’all, there is gonna be a next.
Max reminds me ofCella Malone a lot. She is the type of girl that is very, um, catlike. Don’t tell her though because of that whole hating the cat thing.
There’s a new team in town and they want the sisters something fierce- to work with them though, which is probably pretty normal.
A lot of new characters are introduced in this book and I know I’m going to love them! They are fantastic! So. Much. Fun.
The love story here almost feels like it wasn’t forefront, looking back. There’s a lot going on and you know they have the hots for each other, it’s just not shoved in your face. So, that’s different but I swear it didn’t take anything away! It’s still an amazing story!
Shelly’s latest book takes place in the crazy, funny shifter New York City that she’s brought to life throughout her Pride and Honey Badger series. This time we follow Max “Kill it again” MacKilligan who brings home a shifter who doesn’t know he’s a shifter. Who better to teach him than Max and the gang.
Max has been one of my favorite characters. I love how she manipulate people with her crazy talk while smiling away. And while learning about Max we get introduced to quite a few new faces. Hopefully there will be many more Honey Badgers Chronicles in our future.
Shelly creates characters that truly capture the traits of the animals they shift into, from the defiant cat that knocks over your stuff right in front of you to the honey badger that just don’t care! And no one surpasses Shelly’s ability to write graphic details of violent fighting done with a comedic twist. She continues to incorporate beloved favorite characters from her previous shifter series for that home and community feel.
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
What a fantastic way to wrap up the stories of the MacKilligan sisters! Whenever I pick up one of Shelly Laurenston's novels, I know I'm guaranteed two things: that I'll laugh hysterically and that I'll fall in love with the characters. Badger to the Bone was no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to see what will come next.
Badger to the Bone is another wild ride with the MacKilligan sisters.
This is the third instalment of the Honey Badger Chronicles Series.
I really liked the first two books, I love the world building of this series, the characters are well written, and I am very pleased that this one is more focused on Max because she is my favorite.
The book is funny and very engaging, I usually don't like when there are too many POVs in a book but this series has so many characters and so many side stories that converge in the main storyline and all the POVs work very well.
While this is a romance, the love story isn't the main part of the book, there is action, humor and family drama. This story is very equilibrate and its lenght gives you time to enjoy a full honey badger experience..
The third installment of Shelly Laurenston's Honey Badger Chronicles features middle sister Max. Laurenston's trademark humor, heavy on the snark, is in full flower here, causing me to giggle early and often.
We begin with Max MacKilligan bolting into the arms of kidnappers in an attempt to escape her crazy, homicidal cousin. She meets up with Ze, a panther shifter who doesn't realize he's a shifter, and we're off to the races. As usual, threats and shenaniganas come at Max, Ze, and the other MacKilligan sisters from all sides in this nonstop action adventure tale. So much so, there were times when I was hoping for a break in the action so I could take a breath, but Ms. Laurenston does not have a lot of mercy on her readers.
I must insert two caveats: 1) Please don't read this book as a stand alone. If you have not read the first two books (Hot and Badgered and In a Badger Way), you will be complete confused by all of the action whizzing past your head. And 2) This is marketed as a romance. In my mind, it is most assuredly not that. Paranormal, Action Adventure, Humor, yes, I would agree with any or all of those. But, like the first two books in the series, the romance plot is so incidental as to be nearly non-existent. The "romance" of Max and Ze certainly is not the central plot of this book, much less a driving force for the action.
All in all, an enjoyable, roller coaster of a read!
I have absolutely loved the MacKilligan sisters' books! Romance, action, family drama, and comedy all rolled into a fun, fast paced shapeshifter story? Yes! I've always enjoyed Max in the previous books but wasn't sure how she'd do as the main character but Laurenston did not disappoint. There were a few historical things that seemed to have changed without explanation since Charlie's book but they didn't detract from the story in any way. Overall, if you enjoyed the previous books, you'll love this one. And if you haven't read about the MacKilligan honey badger sisters, you are definitely missing out.
Well the honey badgers are back and if it's chaos, violence, snark and romance you are looking for than this book certainly delivers. It begins with middle sister Max allowing herself to get kidnapped because she's determined to get back at her mother's ex ( yep sneaky honey badger ! ). Max doesn't need outside help because she's got her own back up but it seems an undercover agent has other ideas. Ze hasn't a clue what is going on and is almost convinced he's hallucinating but his life is about to get much more complicated as surprises galore turn his world upside down.
Expect mayhem and utter madness but most of all expect to really enjoy this return to the MacKilligan family. We discover hidden depths to Max as she brings Ze somewhat reluctantly into the world of Shifters. Ze was I'm afraid for me a bit of a slow starter but then again I don't think many can compete with these crazy siblings. I really appreciated how their relatives helped make this story almost comical at times and as honey badgers are truly difficult to kill this book just kept hammering ( pun intended ) that fact home. As usual there's meddlesome parents, fearsome shifters and even basketball ! Yes this story has all the usual shenanigans that I associate with this author. I will say though that its not just about the romance because that is just a tiny part of this fabulous book . This story is quite rightly about these absolutely amazing sisters who are all totally unbelievable and yet I find that I really do want to believe they are real because they are incredible, zany and impossible not to love !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley.
If you've followed this series so far, you'll know this book is bound to be a wild ride. This is the third of the hybrid sisters, and their screw up of a father tends to be the central issue to each of the plots. But, the nice thing is that as they are such close family, we visit with ALL of them. In the last book, the Scottish badgers survived a plane bombing, and Mairi was unleashed on the world. In this one, Mairi's still trying to kill Max, and an old partner of her mom's is trying to get his money back. So as usual, everything is a bit crazy, and everyone we know, have heard of or even wondered about is involved.
But honestly, I enjoyed the hell out of this. We learned her backstory and more of their collective childhood, and understand them better. But, the romance is fun, funky, and so very like how the characters read to me. Now I want the stories for the new Malone and Betsey.....
Max cares for very few people but when one of her kidnappers attempts to save her, that number grows by one. But now that she has him, what next?
Badger to the Bone is third in Shelly Laurenston's The Honey Badger Chronicles series. I love that Ms. Laurenston decided it was Max's time. Max is stone cold with few emotions, especially when it comes to protecting the precious few she cares about. Seeing her Ze is interesting to say the least. I love that she would drop little bombs and then expect Ze to be okay with the knowledge she is giving him. I love that Ms. Laurenston allowed Ze a moment and then showed the strength of the man. Strength that is necessary to hand Max and her brand of crazy. I loved seeing Max find someone else to care for even as she is surprised by what Ze is beginning to mean to her.
I thoroughly enjoyed returning to this crazy world created by Ms. Laurenston. I enjoyed the sense of family, the hi-jinks and the love. Max and Ze fit even if it was a bit surprising. I loved seeing Ze embrace his new normal and Max's brand of crazy. And I cannot wait to see where Ms. Laurenston will take us next in the crazy world she has created.
I can't possibly express enough how much I am loving this series. I don't think I have laughed so hard as I have at these sisters. They are totally kick ass woman and living on the crazy train!
This one focuses on Max, but where Max is, so are Charlie and Stevie. I love that. These sisters have each others back and really show what family is meant to be. They seem to hate everyone and everyone seems to hate them, and yet they are constantly surrounded by other shifters.
Even though each book focuses more on one of the sisters, I would recommend reading this series in order. You learn so much about all these characters, it will just increase your enjoyment of each book.
I will also warn that the romance is not a priority in the story. It's still there and I do love who Max is paired up with. Ze brought just as much entertainment to this book as the sisters did.
I have no idea if there are plans for more books in the series, but I sure do hope so. I don't think I could get enough of all these characters. If you love silly humor and love to laugh, read this series!
I can’t say it enough how much the honey badger stories are fun, laugh out loud and all around enjoyable to read. Everyone has been hard to, put down. The newest book is about Max and Ze and the way these two meet is absolutely fun! Without giving too much Ze finds himself in the care of Max who is the most unlikely caregiver you could ever imagine. The trouble or danger Max can get into is huge and the way she gets out of it is some of the best parts of the story.. Cant wait to see what’s up next in this series.
She’s done it again! I was beyond thrilled to have been allowed to review this book—and Shelly Laurenston’s 3rd Honey Badger book has surpassed all expectations! I can barely put it down—there’s so many different side plots, I know I’m going to re-read it over again to find out what I missed. And I love Max’s team! I can’t wait to read their stories! Thank you, Shelly Laurenston & Netgalley!
* MAJOR SPOILERS*
This is yet another quirky, violent and fun addition to the series. The dialogue was humorous, the characters were interesting and the writing was engaging. There were a few hiccups in my opinion, but overall, it was an enjoyable read.
I wasn't sure I would like Max reading the previous book, but this installment surprised me. Max was shown violent, psychopathic, friendless and well, dumb before. Here, though, she still comes as violent and psychopathic, these qualities are glossed over. While this did make me like Max more, I have to admit, her character is subtly different from previous books.
When I started reading this series, I expected it to be a trilogy - each one having a plot central to each sister. I was expecting a proper conclusion to the entire debacle in this book. Disappointingly, this not only ends with an unsatisfactory ending, but also has many lose endings. Take for example, Max and the feral cat. I assume the author was building it as a background for Max and Ze, but midway, everyone simply forgets about the cat. Another example is Dutch - a central character in previous book, and who I expected to play a larger role since he was Max's friend; barely appears as a guest character. Hell, Imani is given more screen time than Dutch!
Max having no friends is greatly emphasized in previous books. But in this book, she suddenly gains a lot of them, and she is a team player! This image of her is contrary to her from previous books. I was hoping for a lot more consistency with the characters and plot!
Another disappointment was the romance. First one-third of the book, they are strangers, next they are friends who are attracted (mentioned once, I think) and then almost to the end, there is suddenly a chapter on their having sex. No build-up, no getting to know each other, no romance and no feeling of this being a life time commitment between them!
In conclusion, was the book phenomenal? - No; would I read the next one in the series? - Definitely yes!
Badger to the Bone by Shelly Laurenston
I absolutely love this book and this series. I look forward to the next honey badger book and can't wait to read it. The logic and humor that Shelly Laurenston uses in her books always makes sense to me and I love the results. If you enjoy paranormal literature then you will love this series.
These books are crazy fun, so outrageous they are irresistible and a complete escape into fantasy. Charlie, Max, and Stevie are half-sister Honey Badgers; they are tough, mean, and an extremely tight family. This is Max’s book, but is filled with all my favorite characters, not just Honey Badgers, but the canines, felines, and bears. And a bunch of her crazy Honey Badger relatives.
Max lets herself be kidnapped to finally track down the man who has been after her, and to protect her sisters. She accidently outs an agent, who is undercover with the kidnappers. When Zé risks his life to save her (as if she needed any help), she feels responsible for helping him. And then she realizes that Zé is a shifter and doesn’t know it! And he is a cat! Max doesn’t really like cats, but there is something about Zé.
I love the way the sisters bicker and fight but stand together when one is threatened, the way everyone fears Charlie who bakes to relieve stress and seems like the calm one, and then there is the mangy cat that hangs around the house and gets in fights with Max. A little housecat who seems to get the best of Max “Kill It Again” MacKilligan. Too cute.
I received an ARC of Badger to the Bone from NetGalley and this is my honest review.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shifter world. I love the humor, the violence and the family loyalty. SL took a turn from her books being heavy in the romance department and they read more like shifter chic lit with a side of romance now....especially in the HBC series. These books are about Stevie, Max and Charlie and the ties that bind them together and the people lucky enough to become part of their family. This book is technically Max’s story and her tentative involvement with Ze who just found out he was a shifter, This was a fun ride. Lots of violence and laughs, but my one “complaint” is that there is an underlying subplot that involves a lot of old characters from her other books....it’s been years since I read most of those books and I have a VERY hard time remembering the ties that bind them together and their necessity to what is happening with that subplot now. I have chosen to mostly ignore that plot-line.... it makes me feel bad since I know that it has taken a lot of work to keep track of all the players and slowly build on it book by book...but it’s mostly lost on me.
I absolutely love this series by Shelly Laurenston. I enjoy the humor amd romance that she brings to all of her stories. Max finally has found her other half and that has made me happy. The MacKilligan sisters, their friends and family have me literally laughing out loud. What a wonderful read.
I have been waiting for Max’s story and building it up in my mind on just how great it would be. Shelly Laurenston did not disappoint at all. I already loved Max going into this book but now I love her more! And Ze... oh Ze, he is oh so interesting and I instantly liked him.
I did not see all the twists and turns coming in this book. Shelly knows how to keep me entertained and surprised!
