once again am here to tell you all of my love and adoration for this author. Her stories, characters and her humor! All of it, top notch! No one makes me belly laugh like she does. No one does animal behavior like she does. I can’t sing her praises enough. And if there was a way, I’d want to be a Smith!
Shelly Laurenston is one of my favorite authors because of her humor and quickly paced stories. I love her characters and the absolutely crazy world they live in. Revisiting Charlie, Stevie and Max was a wonderful experience; however, if you haven't read or have forgotten the previous books, don't start here. While the action and the pacing is fun, the characteraziations had me laughing out loud, the sheer number of characters gets confusing. Some characters are introduced and then never seen again, characters from other books in the series are brought back for cameos, and new ones are introduced at a pace that makes you say "who was that again?" Aside from this, I enjoyed this addition to the honey badger series and look forward more in the future.
When Max throws herself into a van of kidnappers, she is happy to find Ze, who is undercover, and ends up helping her. Little does he know he is a shifter, but she can smell the cat on him. As a honey badger, she is known for being aggressive and a little crazy, so when her basketball team shows up and destroys the kidnappers it is little surprise. Another fun story by a great author. Plenty of characters from other books are here, and that is always fun. A little hard to follow Max's family though, and was confused a bit on who was who at times there, but otherwise a great story, and one that I highly recommend.
Badger to the Bone is the third book in Shelly Laurenston’s Honey Badger Chronicles Series. It is a paranormal shifter romance that is well written and humorous. Laurenston is a fantastic writer with the exceptional ability to create phenomenal storylines, with great characters, humour and interesting events. This story have a happily ever after and no cliff hangers, although the author is left wanting to learning more about the interesting shifter world that Laurenston has created.
Book three in this series focuses on Max “Kill It Again” MacKilligan and her love interest ZeZé Vargas who she meets during her kidnapping. Ze has no idea that he is a shifter and Max takes it upon herself to teach him the ins and outs of the shifter world. The chemistry between the two main characters is intense and entertaining as they learn to navigate the complicated world of the MacKilligan Sisters.
Awesome read! I couldn’t put it down. I hope there’s a book four in the works!
Thank you Netgalley and Kensington for an ARC of Badger to the bone for a review. I love the MacKilligan sisters especially Max "Kill it again" MacKilligan! Max discovers Ze while being kidnapped, a jaguar, who has no idea he is a shifter. When he gets injured trying to keep her safe, Max brings him home and opens a whole new world to Ze. This was another hilarious story which brought some new characters into play as well as some old ones.
As a lifelong reader of Laurenston's (/G.A. Aiken's) and the owner of everything she's ever written I have to say that I'm yet again disappointed by the turn her writing has taken in the last few years. The books used to be an exciting combination of amazing sex, exciting characters, blooming relationships, and intriguing side plots. Now it's like: here's a book full of confusing plots featuring every character ever mentioned in a previous book until your head is spinning and...no sex.
Okay. Not no sex. But Ze and Max had almost NO chemistry whatsoever. I mean, they were pleasant enough but where's the explosive chemistry of Dez and Mace or all the OG couples? Not there. Plus they didn't even kiss until around 60% and there was no sex until around 85% and even then it was just the one scene and then NOTHING. NOTHING ELSE. And it was boring sex, too. Just going through the motions because she was close to finishing the book and realized she hadn't put a sex scene in yet.
I just don't understand what's gone wrong here. The books have lost what made them so charming and instead are packed full of violence, blood and gore, and insane levels of plot that just aren't worth the pay off at the end. This book felt more like a filler episode which sucked because I was excited for Max. Honestly, this entire honey badger series (after Livvy's story) has just been one disappointing book after another, unfortunately.
I'm hoping that Laurenston can find her spark again and bring us some couples with some honest-to-god chemistry that flies off the page like the couples from her previous novels. If she can't I'm afraid I might be hanging up my hat with these new books and just committing myself to rereads for the remainder of my life.
I waited for a year and hounded the staff to add it to NetGalley so that I could read it. Read it I did within a day. Mrs. Laurenston has done it again! This book picks up a few weeks after Stevie is rescued. Max finds herself facing down her cousin and would be kidnappers. Then she meets Ze, a rare cat shifter that does not know he is a shifter. Max takes Ze under her wings and what ensues is an action, family drama filled adventure. You will laugh, get upset, nod your head, and want to cry as you near the end of the book. Some of the characters from the others series make appearances such as Blayne, Bo, Dee Ann and others. A good bit of new characters are introduced as well, There is a Huge surprise in the last chapter which ensures we will have at least one more badger book, be still my heart! You will not regret investing in this author nor the series.
I laughed pretty much all the way through this story, though if you have not read any of the other books in the series you ill not understand this book. You wil be 100 percent confused. Becasue you will not understand the whys and hows of the sister, the family. You could read the first two but even then i still would so it is much better if you knew the overall arc of the world the author has. But if you are not wanting to do that, and want to read the honey badger books, start with book 1. dont flex and be like I have book 3 as an are YAY, and then get shitty because you are lost and confused. I loved this book, even though i have given it a four star rating personally i would have much preferred more romance, but it was so jamed packed with multiple POV that i feel like the relationaship needed more. I loved the charaters, always. The sister are a hoot, and to see some of my favs from previous books int he other series was fantastic. Even Miki who is in the Mangus seres. The Bears, they steal the show all the time but then so do the Cats, and Kylie. I cant wait to see if we get more from this series or another spin off. The ending in this was let open for another one, but i can not tell you why. Fans of Shelly will really love this.
Max and ZeZe's story. This 3rd book in the series is full of action and multiple characters. Max is the central figure, but there is a lot going on that isn't about Max. Ze is her HEA. Tough mercenary that meets her during her kidnapping. I love these girls, and Charlie gets a huge fight scene. The only way this would have been better is if we got to see Stevie shift. *sigh*
I was extremely excited to get an advanced copy of this book. This is the third book of the Mackilligan honey badger sisters and by far my favorite. Max is a big instigator loving to annoy people and at times seems like the sociopath her sister Stevie thinks she is, but deep inside (deep, deep inside) she just loves her sisters. Due to annoying family drama the three girls have not had an easy life however their sister bond pulled them through. The book starts off with a bang as Max flees from her family trying to kill her right into the dangerous arms of kidnappers. Little do they know Max is no ordinary girl, nor an ordinary shifter. That’s where she meets Ze an undercover agent who has no idea that he’s a shifter too. After being saved they start a hilarious journey together as Ze struggles with his new identity, but his catness comes out quick. Like other shifter stories by this author there’s a lot of humor and fighting in the book with many familiar faces (please, please can we get a book about Hannah?). There’s also a lot is side stories going on with many new characters but Max and Ze just seem to click and their relationship just seems to flow really well. Another great story . 5 stars. I received an arc copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
Happy valentines day to me! Woohoo early advanced copy of this book.
We went on another crazy ride with this one. Freaking awsome crazy characters. I was interested how shelly was going to deal with Maxs love life and she did a good job. We learn all about Max in this book and many questions and storylines from the previous 3 books are wrapped up. But don't stress there is not a cliff hanger, but the storyline is left open for more books in this series.
These stories don't get old. Put aside a day to read this one in, its long but gripping. You'll want to read it in one sitting.
Badger to the Bone by Shelly Laurenston. (Honey Badgers #3). 5 stars
This is the follow up to last years “In A Badger Way”. I thought it couldn’t get any better than Stevie and Shen, but Max and ZeZe are just as fun. While the story did not have a laser focus on Max and Ze, I found the side stories setting up future books and plus rather than a distraction. I really like Ze and his cat like behavior traits and look to him annoying Max for a long time. I loved seeing past favorite characters, even if it was just a cameo. I hope Natalie will be the focus of the next book and we find out the backstory of a certain branch of the Malone family. I dropped everything to read this and it did not disappoint. I can’t wait to listen to the audiobook version narrated by Charlotte Kane, it will a 5 star effort.
Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for this ARC.
Love the Mackilligan sisters! Charlie is as bada**as ever! Love how Max can smile so sweetly while describing how she will mutilate and kill you. Meds might have mellowed Stevie out too much though.Ze picks up being a cat pretty quick one he accepts.
Lots of laughs! Looks like there will be more books.
I received an ARC of the book in exchange for a honest review.
The book was well written. I liked both MCs. However the plot didn't really focus on them. It focused on other characters 70 percent of the time. This book honestly felt like a filler for the series; it set up more characters for future books. Which is fine I guess. But it kinda ruined Max's book for me. I have looking forward to Max's book since Charlie's book. And Zé feels like he's a good match for Max. I'm not saying about the book wasn't good because it was. The book just didn't feel up to par with the rest of the author's work. I'm honestly disappointed.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another disappointing novel by this author. Her earlier novels were funny and action packed so I'm not sure what's happening with her latest ones. They are full of violence, cheesy lines and crazy unreliable characters. The plot is told in this confusing, underwhelming structure that shoots out characters like a automatic weapon. I couldn't follow what was going on and Max kept calling ZE her kitty cat which is not amusing or sexy. Just one big waste of time.
Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken consistently produces paranormal romance that manages to be both heart-warming and totally bonkers. Zeze Vargas doesn't know he's a cat until he kidnaps Max, but after seeing her shred a team of henchmen he knows that the world he once knew was only a facade. In fact, Max and her family are honey badgers. Aggressively loyal and nearly unkillable, the MacKilligan sisters are some of my favorite characters of all time. This may or may not be the final honey badger book in the series, but I hope that we return to the MacKilligan sisters again soon. Don't start the series here, go back to the beginning and read all three at once for maximum enjoyment.
