Really great recipes that will work for any family's busy weekday! I love a One Pan Dinner as they are generally well balanced and easy to prepare and clean up after and these are no different.
My family is trying to incorporate more healthy dishes into our meal rotation. This is hard because besides my husband and myself we have five children ages 5-15 with a very picky eater in the mix. I am a cheese-carb-meat-butter lover so our meals have to be recognizable, easy, and not to frou-frou (meaning, no one in my family is here to eat a tofu, kale, and sprouts bowl).
This cookbook is just fantastic! It has a great variety of recipes, ingredients that the average home cook would likely be familiar with, and the one pan aspect is music to my ears!
I never review a cookbook without trying a recipe or two and I made the Pesto Turkey Meatballs with Orzo. Every single family member loved it but one. And let me tell you 6/7 is a win! I mean, you can't please everybody. The only qualm I had was that the meatballs themselves we a bit bland, even with pesto in the mixture. When I make this recipe again (and I definitely will make it again), I will add a for more herbs and spices to the meatballs. That, of course, is a personal preference and doesn't mean you won't love this dish the way it is.
Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest feedback.
Sheet pan, skillet, dutch over, baking dish, slow cooker, instant pot, OH MY!
In this new release White really explores all the cooking vessel options to create easy and healthy one pan dinners. I have to say I was impressed by this even though it didn't include nearly enough photography of the recipes, maybe about 1/3 of the recipes had an accompanying photo. But what it lacked visually, it made up for in fresh and creative recipes even including nutritional information, tips and helpful ideas for variations.
Health One Pan Dinners is a great cookbook if you're looking for a set of recipes that you can make on a sheet pan, in a multi cooker or slow cooker, baking dish or in a skillet. There are a variety of delicious sounding recipes and they all have calorie counts below 500. Many of the recipes also include all parts of the dinner (protein, starch, vegetable), so they are done all at once! This would be an excellent cookbook to gift newlyweds or anyone trying to eat better!
Healthy One Pan Dinners by Dana Angelo White is a book I look forward to purchasing once its published. Why? I found her healthy recipes simple and appealing and a boon for people who want to cook even if their schedule is super busy.
At the start of her cookbook the author offers a pantry list featuring "10 Must-have ingredients," recommended cookware and a list of "20 Kitchen staples."
Some of the recipes you'll find include:
Sheet Pan Barbecue
Spatchcok Herbed Chicken with Parsnips
Sheet Pan Pancakes
Weeknight Chicken Pot Pie
Egg Roll Bowls
Lightened-Up New England Clam Chowder
Root Veggie Pasta
Grilled Cheese Sandwich Casserole
Mediterranean Hasselback Sweet Potatoes
Beef Stew
Simple Rice + Beans
Her recipes include the use of either a sheet pan, skillet, Dutch oven, baking dish or Multicooker plus slow cooker. You will also find "tags" showing whether a recipe is gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, under 30 minutes or freezer friendly.
All-around Healthy One Pan Dinners is a terrific cookbook.
Recommend.
Review written after downloading a temporary PDF from NetGalley.
I love how this book is set up! This cook book has a lot going for it. It has all the nutritional information at the bottom of the recipe, no more typing the ingredients into a nutrition calculator. It has symbols for dairy free, gluten free, vegan, under 30 minutes and freezer friendly. No more guessing if something will freeze okay. It also has a slow cooker and instant pot section to add some more low stress meal options. The other thing I loved about this book is that most recipes are under 6 steps! My only complaint is I wish there was a picture with every recipe (this is always my complaint). I am really excited to continue to try recipes from this cookbook!
All kinds of one pan dinners, ranging from vegetarian to meat lovers and all kinds of pans, sheet pan, instant pot, etc. Nutrition is provided for each recipe. Enjoyed the roasted chicken thighs with butternut squash. Wish there was a photo for each recipe.
The recipes in this book look good and the instructions are easy to follow. I really liked how it was divided into groups based on what pan, skillet etc you would use to cook it in. I just wish that there was a picture for every recipe.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I hate nothing more than prepping food for the week and using a million dishes to do so. Finding a book like this with easy to use recipes and easy to find ingredients is a blessing for sure. I will be purchasing this one.
This is a nice book with easy to follow recipes. It is not complicated, and is targeted to weeknight meals and meals for busy families. I do like that there is nutritional information for all of the recipes. I would recommend this book to many. It is not a book of gourmet recipes, which all have a place, but does make some impressive sounding dishes.
As the one who washes the dishes I definitely like the idea of one pan dinners lol. I like the way the meals are divided up into sheet pan, skillet, slowercooker, etc. There's tons of recipes to choose from and lots of variety. I did really like the few pictures that were included. They looked so yummy and made me want to try recipes I may have otherwise overlooked. With that said I wish there could have been even more photos to entice.
I wasn't terribly impressed with this one. First of all, I didn't consider many of them particularly healthy, and second of all, many of them are not really "one pan."
As an example, one recipe calls for making BBQ beans in a dish and then putting that dish on a great big pan with corn on the cob on one side and making BBQ ribs and putting them on the other side of your giant pan. Okay, technically it all fit on a big sheet pan, but come on.
I also didn't find all of the recipes very healthy, and I'm disappointed to see that a nutritionist supposedly wrote them. One recipe calls for taking a pan of ready-to-bake white bread rolls, cutting them in half, covering them with cheese slices, and then putting on optional toppings and then the bun tops, to make baked grilled cheese sandwiches. I'll grant that that one is a one-pan recipe, but processed white rolls with cheese and optional toppings do not make for a healthy supper. Some recipes certainly are healthier, but plenty of others are for things like cheeseburger sliders or fried rice. She claims her pasta primavera is a "healthy vegetarian dish" and it's white pasta, heavy cream, low-fat mozarella and some spinach and cherry tomatoes. She and I just have different definitions of healthy. I suppose it doesn't help that I am reading Dr. Mark Hyman's "Food Fix" at the same time and he rails against most of the foods that are the main ingredients in these recipes, like processed grains and unhealthy fats.
The book seems to be trying to please everybody with a scattering of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free recipes and then junk food pleasing ones and lots of meat-heavy ones to make others happy, and the end result is a hodgepodge of recipes that clash with each other. One minute we've got squash and turmeric and then we've got fried white rice.
Nutritional information is provided. Photos are provided for about 1/4 of the recipes.
This will be a nice cookbook for some, but was a miss for me.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
Great cookbook for busy lifestyles! This would be a great gift for newlyweds, busy parents or anyone that doesn't like to do dishes. The book does a good job organizing recipes by the type of dish (one pan, dutch oven, casserole dish etc.) I was a little disappointed that there's not a photo for every recipe, especially when it comes to attracting the attention of Instagram-obsessed millennials.
A great way to survive dinner time rush when you are trying to keep your family happy and the clean up to a minimum. The recipes are easy to follow and use everyday pantry ingredients. There are recipes that fit any diet restrictions along with many that are kid friendly too. We've tried 50% of the recipes so far and I've received no complaints. That alone speaks volumes from my picky eaters.
Healthy One Pan Dinners by Dana Angelo White is a book that has it all! This book has easy to follow recipes that you can make in a sheet pan, skillet, dutch oven, baking dish, multi-cooker, and slow cooker. Each recipe is laid out in step by step fashion and tells servings, prep time, cook time and the nutritional facts. This book would be great for anyone who is pressed for time and looking for easy, healthy Dinners that don't make a huge mess. I love that the recipes were not only healthy but delicious as well! I recommend this book.
This was a great cookbook. The recipes are divided by sheet pans, crockpots, skillet’s etc. most of them truly are one pan meals. They are simple and use whole ingredients. I would highly recommend this book for any busy family that doesn’t want a lot of dishes wishes to have a high-quality dinner. My only complaint is that there weren’t pictures with every recipe.
This cookbook is full of easy to follow recipes. I enjoyed all the information about the different types of dishes and the way the recipes are paired to the dish. This is perfect for busy families, singles, and couples. The photography is great and really highlights the dishes.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Very simple recipe book with a few tasty recipes. I liked that the author stuck to very specific ingredients throughout and used a variety of common pots and baking dishes.
The only thing I felt was missing was more pictures of the finished product to use as reference. Some recipes had ingredients I wasn't familiar with so it would have been nice to use the pictures as a guide.
I loved this cookbook! So many easy to follow recipes. Personally my husband was interested in the deep dish pizza and I was super interested in the chili with corn bread topping. The recipes are easy to follow, easy cleanup and lots of mouth-watering photos. Highly recommend for anyone who’s looking to get quick cleanup with delicious recipes.
This book is perfect for busy families while also being healthy. The variety and choices are unlike any I’ve seen in other cookbooks, and I love reading cookbooks! There are plenty of photos of each dish which is a godsend especially when making a new dish. Personally look forward to trying the Taco Salad. Never made it with zucchini, carrots, or radishes. Will be trying my hand at something new: making no-cook chicken tabbouleh. My only criticism is that it is difficult to find a recipe unless you know the exact name, e.g. tabbouleh. Took me awhile to find it.
