How the middle schoolers talked (saying hashtag) felt like what an adult thinks middle schoolers sound like. I worked in a middle school and never heard anyone talk like these kids. I did like the ending, I felt that it was fitting for a horror-type story.

I was decently impressed by this book. It could have been just another retelling of the same story. And while some of that did exist, it was more of bringing the story to a modern audience. Shelly wants to be popular, and when she is given a chance by Ursula she jumps at it. However, like anything with Ursula, there is a catch. Shelly has to defeat the catch and realize that life will get easier with time and attention. I thought this book was interesting and can see kids enjoying it.

This was a fun twist on a favorite Disney villain. I loved the interaction between the main characters. The ending was not what I expected. Read this one to find out.

This was a well-written middle grade read. Not so scary that kids would have nightmares, but not so babyish they wouldn't feel sucked in. Not an easy feat with this age group! The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite tales, and this twist and retelling was a good aspect. There were some parts I felt could've been more developed, but overall it didn't ruin the story. For someone looking for a good villian story I would definitely recommend this one!

A nice addition to the middle grade / tween horror genre, even more so if you're a big Disney fan (and who isn't?).

Shelly Anderson is willing to do anything to be popular -- even make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula. But rather than solidifying Shelly's spot with the most popular girls in school, her deal with Ursula turns belly-up. Shelly realizes she needs to find a way out of the deal and a way to return to her normal life, but she knows it won't be easy.

I am a big Disney fan and a big horror fan so this new series seemed like a slam-dunk for me, but it was a little too cringe for me to get fully behind. Shelly's voice is a little too juvenile and the text relies a lot on puns and obvious parallels to other Disney stories. Still, this is an appealing title with a compelling cover and might be a good recommendation for a reluctant reader looking for a new series.

As a mom I love this book and as a reader I love this book. There are so many fun elements tied into it. Swim team, nautilus shell and our favorite Sea Witch. This book kept both me and my pre teens engaged. Well done :)

It's so fun to hear another story about one of Disney's most well known (and dare I say beloved?!) villains.

honestly, this was so freaking good. i honestly really liked it and the plot. but, i do feel like it was kind short, which i guess was expected because it is a middle grade. needless to say, i really liked it. one stupid little issue i have with it is how whenever something happened the twins would say something along the lines of hashtag something. which, was kind of annoying, even though it was kind of expected since they are like 12 year olds or something. but, i mean this characters were annoying, but yet again they are 12 years old. i did honestly really liked the whole Ursula though. like she was kind of in a little bit, but not an overwhelming amount. i honestly really liked the whole parts where she would quote movie lyrics, and just her in general.

This was an interesting read to me. I had a hard time following it at times, and I felt like the writing could be better. For the most part however I enjoyed it and I can't wait to read more.

Goosebumps meets Disney! Vera Strange makes a splash in this incredible debut! I will definitely be reading the other books in the series! Excellent storytelling!

What if a Disney villain was real and what if they could grant you your darkest desires. In this first book in the Disney Chill's series Shelly wants to fit in, to be apart of the other kids world. A wish that causes her to make a deal with none other then Ursula. This book captivates and is perfect for the middle reader.

Thank you NetGalley and Disney-Hyperion for sharing this eARC with me in exchange for an honest review. This book was such a great read. My sixth grade students love horror and scary stories and this one will be a hit. I absolutely loved the tie in with Little Mermaid, but that it wasn't a retelling. I liked the plugs for taking care of our oceans and our world as well. My favorite part though? The ending! Oh my goodness, I did NOT see it coming! The ending made this book and I look forward to reading more Disney Chills.

I absolutely LOVED the concept for this!
The execution was very superficial, but the ending redeemed the book a bit.
I wish the characters/story had been more fleshed out.
Shout out to NetGalley & Disney Publishing Worldwide for my DRC.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Netgalley, the author, and Disney Book Group in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book! It was good to see Ursula back to her mischievous ways of trying to gain King Triton's trident. This book was such a fun read and shows that some choices made sometimes comes with a price. Definitely recommend this book to fans of The Little Mermaid and to readers who enjoy a scary stories. I can't wait to read the next one!

Let's be frank: I found this a failure across the board. It fails to create complex characters, a frightening atmosphere, or a compelling plot. Shelly is a middle grade trope: a girl trying to be popular and willing to abandon all of her interests and beliefs to achieve that end. This might work if she were at all conflicted with her decisions. But she's not. She throws it all away without a thought. And the secondary and tertiary characters are no better. They have no depth, no complexity, no reality. There is no real tension in the progression of the plot, no threat that puts us on edge, no shivers or eeriness. The plot follows a predictable pattern up until the final chapters, each element telegraphed well in advance. This makes the ending that much harder to accept. It doesn't really resolve the plot. It just ends. If you're looking for a kid friendly scare, I'd look elsewhere.

It took a while for this book to kick off for me but then I'm an adult. It was a very good book though!

This Netgalley copy was gifted to me by the publisher and Ursula did not come to disappoint! This book is excellent for a young reader who may be feeling the pressure of feeling like an outsider like Shelly did in this book. I would red more books like this. Once the action kicked up, I found myself disappointed that there wasn't more to the story lol.

I read half of this and couldn’t read the rest. It was dull and uninspired. A girl is a ghost and recently appears in the haunted mansion. But, there are other ghosts with much more seniority than her.

This book is a great villain story that would be great for middle grade readers. Definitely got some Goosebumps vibes with the storyline and the kid-appropriate spooky tale. I will absolutely be recommending it to readers who enjoy Disney villains, Goosebumps, or spooky stories in general. I am excited to see where the next book in this series goes with the next villain. Thank you to Disney and NetGalley for the chance to review an ARC of this book.

I really enjoyed this book! I especially enjoyed the fact that the ending was not the happy fairytale ending typically associated with Disney.
