What a fun book! Shane and Sheila McShane make for quite the unusual sleuths, and I enjoyed reading about their antics as much as I enjoyed reading about the settings they visited. The novel is a light, enjoyable romp and was a nice respite from the darker fiction I usually read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy.

Wow, I have never read a book like this before. It follows an octogenarian couple on a mission to discover what happened to their missing daughter, last seen on a cruise ship sailing around Europe. The two heroes of our tale are unconventional but entertaining.

I really hope that this book was written by an older person as every single page documents an ache and pain that the couple have, and emphasises their feebleness and frailty. Luckily Sheila and Shane McShane have a very particular set of skills, and they're not afraid to use them! Sheila can see people's auras and Shane is a detail nut, obsessed with the minutiae and making notes of everything. Between the two of them, they begin to find out what happened to their missing girl.

I found some of the depictions of different nationalities a little bit...eeehhhh but overall, I enjoyed the story and the descriptions of all the different places they visited. I think this would fit very well into anyone's cosy murder mystery bookshelf. I'll keep an eye on Morgan Mayer and see what she does next!

I absolutely enjoyed this crazy romp of a cozy mystery. The blurb intrigued me with octogenarians setting off on a cruise to find their daughter, but originally I was a little skeptical of the author being able to portray the old couple well - as it turns out, they are the best part of the book. Sheila is feisty, and free with her opinions and emotions, Shane is engineer nerd always lost in some calculation or another, a little bit clichey but very believable. I particularly enjoyed how the author portrayed the ups and downs of the investigation and the methods the couple uses to outsmart the staff who treat them as senile and the villains who are trying to scare them off. I enjoyed all the details of the cruise itself as well as the places they went to, enough to give colour to the journey while being true to the experience of the couple who are preoccupied with finding their daughter. I laughed out loud, gasped and read really fast to find out what happened and how these two managed to overcome all odds. There are a few moments where things got too cliche and some repetitive dialogue, but it did not detract from the overall experience.
