You’re always in for a treat when you read a Mandy Baggot novel, and this is no exception.
Fed up with her sister and her job Becky decides she needs a holiday, however on a shoestring budget the only way this is possible is doing a spot of house sitting in Corfu.
Excited about her new adventures she meets Petra and Elias at the airport and together they explore Greece forging friendships, and love along the way.
Becky Rose is a sandwich maker. She works with her sister Meghan is their company. Becky decides she needs a break and so goes to housesit a villa in Corfu. On the airplane she meets Elias, a greek lawyer living in London. They miss their connecting flight, end up in Athens and then Kefalonia before going their separate ways to Corfu, or did they. Seems Becky and Elias are more linked than they think
Good story, really enjoyed it. Would love a follow up to see what happens to Petra and Meghan.
I love a good Many Baggot book. They are always so much fun to read, so romantic and so entertaining! And "My Greek Island Summer" is no exception! I enjoyed this book so much! And I loved that we travelled a greek island! I need travelling so bad right now but I can't so this book came at the perfect time! Also I loved the characters and I loved the story in itself. It's fun (i laughed out loud a few times), it's packed with events and adventures and this book makes you understand that you should always look twice before judging someone or a situation. Many times it's not out it looks! Also this book is all about following your dreams and stand out for yourself! Loved it! it's a stars out of for me.
Found this a delightful story that took me away to beautiful places in Greece as if I were there. The family drama and the romantic dynamics in there also kept me enthralled, wanting to turn the page on and on. Also loved Ms. Baggot's voice, funny and biting with a dry humor and some pop culture references that had me chuckling or giggling throughout. Really loved this author's work here and will definitely look for more from her!
This book was a delight to read. I have never read a book from this author so this is my first one. After reading this book, I can't wait to read more books from this author.
The enticing Greek setting was well described in my opinion. It gave me a visual of what the place looks like. The characters are enjoyable to read and it is like you're going on a journey with them to Greece.
This book was provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
The perfect slice of summer whilst on lockdown and holidays to Greece seem like a distant dream. This book is the perfect lounger read with colourful, charismatic characters and mouthwatering food. Highly enjoyable. Thanks netgalley!
First and foremost, let me get my swooning out of the way. Elias, and his Greek God self is just a spoonful of yumminess in an intelligent and super sexy package. Ok swooning is done now. I just loved this book. It was a fun, slow burn, romp through the gorgeous Greek islands. I enjoyed the banter between Elias and Becky, it was witty and flirty.
Becky works with/for her sister's catering company making sandwiches, day in and day out. Her sister definitely takes advantage of Becky and doesn't really think she has any helpful advice when it comes to running the company. When the two sisters have a disagreement, Becky decides that a holiday is in order. On the plane she sits next to super hottie Elias, who happens to be travelling back home to Corfu, which is also where Becky is going to he house-sitting for 2 weeks. Along the way the two get stuck on several other Greek Islands along the way and become closer the more time they spend together.
What I enjoyed most was not only was this just a fun romance, but it was a story of forgiveness, friendship, sisterly love, helping others reconnect and then a little romance. I just loved it. I really got vacation jealous, and food jealous, and location jealous. 4.5 stars from me, I really enjoyed this novel and would recommend it for anyone who enjoys cute romances.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers, and the author for a chance to read and review.
although I had heard rave after rave about Mandy Baggot’s books online, it was only at Christmas that I had the pleasure of experiencing the vibrancy of a Mandy Baggot book when I reviewed One Christmas Star a book that had me chortling, grinning and nodding along and I knew I had found an author that was right up my street.
Fast forward to now, and as I met Becky I knew I was in for another treat! A lovely character, who we meet in crisis talks with colleagues as they discuss their food business, I felt for Becky as she struggled to put herself forward for a job and willed her.
I then cheered as she decided to take a break and head to Corfu, almost jumping about as we not only experienced her plane journey (I think airports and planes are so rom com, don’t you?!), but also met a stranger … and then we got to meet him too!!
Excellent, vivid settings, great drama, characters that just hit the mark, as well as various mix ups along the way had me happy out with this feel good rom com that cemented Ms. Baggot as an author I’ll be checking out again and again (and with this being her 20th book, I’ll have no shortage of choice!) Really enjoyable and very much recommended. Thanks so much to for the book in return for an honest review and for letting me be part of the blog tour.
Rating:4.5/5
Because of issues with my reading device I was unable to read this, and because of the current state of things in unable to replace it. I'm sorry I was unable to get to it but i do plan on purchasing this title in three future.
Megan Rose owned It’s A Wrap a little sandwich business. Her sister Becky worked for her and enjoyed personalising the foods for their loyal gang of customers. Megan was in the dark to the tweaks and additions that Becky made on a daily basis. Megan had just pitched for a contract with the Army and was seriously excited as she’d just secured it. Becky was getting excited about pitching for an afternoon tea gig at the local nursing home. The two were at loggerheads with each other and Becky had had enough of not being respected in her role.
She decided she needed a holiday but was cash strapped so she looked into house sitting, it was a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in another country’s culture for free. All she had to do was find the price of the flight, she worried that there had to be a catch, it almost sounded too easy.
Megan had just announced she was going on holiday in August after the busy wedding season and just before the Army contract started in September. She announced she was going to hire someone to hold the fort while she was away. Becky was furious that one of the employees wasn’t going to be promoted instead.
Becky had managed to avoid her sister for long enough, she tapped on the screen of her phone and awaited the results. The advert spoke to her “Corfu, Greece, Owner seeks house sitter, large villa with private infinity pool, steps away from the sea. Sitter required ASAP.”
Could she do this? Really? She did and a week later was telling her sister that she was off on a fortnights holiday. Would the sisters relationship survive.
I really enjoyed discovering the adventures that Becky had on her first holiday in a long time. You won’t be disappointed.
Becky has had enough and wants a break from her bossy sister and so heads off to house sit in Greece as part of a holiday getaway.
On the way, she meets Elias a lawyer helping his clients settle their divorce which is complicated with houses and finances to split.
Having to navigate her life helping out house sitting and dealing with her new travel buddy as she and Elias t to know each other properly despite their beginning getting to know each other the story made me laugh and kept me hooked it was a super sweet summer romance!
I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure as the holiday/house sitting gets off to become an adventure with the many stops along the way the story was similar to Hallmark film, A Cinderella Story only without the Christmas setting but two sisters running a sandwich/catering business and one bossy, one less so etc and a cute guy etc all were reminiscent of the film but worked so well in this summer book so if you enjoy this you'll enjoy that film too especially now during isolation!
A fantastic storyline. I stayed up late to finish the book. I enjoyed the main characters and the beautiful Greek setting. I love hearing about places I may never see.
My Greek Island Summer by Mandy Baggot is a romantic comedy that made me laugh out loud, and I loved it. This is my first book by Ms. Baggot but it won't be my last. I found this book to be utterly delightful in every sense of the word. This book easily swept me up into the character's and story. I highly recommend this book who enjoy both a sweet and funny romance, as well at a trip to the Greek Islands.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
At this time of year many of us would be planning or going on holiday but because of the coronavirus that isn't possible right now. Believe me when I say this book will transport you to beautiful Corfu beaches via Athens and Kefalonia. The author has described these places so vividly that you can almost remember drinking beer while sitting on steps in the Athens moonlight and bathing in beautiful deserted coves.
I always think the best romance novels are those that don't only focus on the lead characters, often the smaller roles have the biggest impact. Mandy Baggott excels at this. Some of the best lines in this book come from crazy backpacker Petra or fearsome Greek cafe owner Eleni. The people you meet in this book will stay with the reader for a very long time.
Overall, this is a cute story, yet the author gives a lot of unnecessary details and an extended back story that doesn't add to the plot early on in the book. However, with all of the unnecessary information, I found the main character a bit flat. The only really interesting thing about her was the way she puts ingredients together in unexpected ways. Also, the story line between the sisters is not entirely believable and has next to no conflict resolution. The sister starts dating her ex boyfriend four weeks after they end an 18 month relationship and it's fine?? I doubt that. Plus, the sister clearly is taking advantage of the main character and treats her terribly, yet in the end the main character feels guilty for keeping a secret from her sister about ingredients. And they just make up instantly even though the sister was so angry (though in the wrong) that she flew half way across the world to confront her?? A lot of this could have been left out and we'd still have a lovely contemporary romance.

After her sister makes it clear that the work she's doing for her catering company isn't appreciated, Becky decides to do something for herself. She takes a house sitting gig in Corfu, Greece to take sometime on her own and enjoy a laid back vacation. My Greek Island Summer is filled with romance and plot twists.
This is a British romance novel, and a lot of the references were very British. As an American, that went over my head and made it a little hard to read. I loved getting to know Becky and found myself rooting for her. This will make a great beach read this summer.
I was sent a digital ARC via Netgalley from the Publisher. All thoughts are my own.
This book was such a fun get away to take my mind off things and I loved the concept of deciding to take a vacation to such a beautiful area with the idea of house sitting and things not going quite according to plan but in the best sense.
Becky has always been known as the very reliable one. The first person to always arrive on time at the That’s A Wrap sandwich business she’s helped run with her sister and usually the last one to leave. She’s dependable, has lots of imagination and loves helping her customers discover new ways to enjoy sandwiches. Recently her sister Megan seems to just want to boss people around, spend time getting clients but not to help with making the sandwiches and hasn’t taken some of Becky’s ideas into consideration.
When Becky finds out that Megan is going to be taking a vacation in August with her boyfriend and wants to hire a stranger to help run things in her absence instead of asking someone who is already a part of the business to take over temporarily, Becky has had enough.
Taking a much needed break, she decides to take a vacation to Corfu, Greece which she found online where someone is in need of a house sitter for a couple of weeks. Becky has never done anything so drastic but what better time to take a vacation than one that’s much needed and spur of the moment?
Excited for this new adventure while also being nervous at the thought of going to a place she’s never been to, Becky is about to be on the adventure of a life time with quite the interesting people and experiences to be had, some of them quite unexpected.
When she finds herself unexpectedly detoured once due to plane boarding delays and a second time due to weather, Becky finds herself making friends Petra who is traveling the world and Elias who is a divorce lawyer and who have their own reasons for traveling and become friends over the course of a couple of days. Together they will explore areas of Greece, enjoy delicious food and form a bond that probably wouldn’t have happened if such unexpected delays hadn’t happened.
This was such a fun book and I’m so glad to have gotten a chance to read an early copy. I recommend checking it out particularly if you’d love to go on a vacation like me to such a beautiful area!
This book was full of adventure, laughter, the power of friendship, unexpected twists, a healthy dash of romance and so much more. I am looking forward to reading more by Mandy in the future.
What a great read this book turned out to be, though I really shouldn’t have been surprised as I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve read by Mandy Baggot. I’ve also discovered this is her twentieth published novel so I’ve got some more of her books to look out for and read in future!
The heroine of this story is Becky Rose. She’s a highly talented sandwich and wrap creator, with a superb sense of taste that enables her to mix unlikely fillings that work brilliantly together. However, she does this in her sister’s shop and her sister comes across as someone who really doesn’t appreciate the work of Becky. When Becky, fuming from her sister’s attitude, discovers she can have a fortnight in Corfu house sitting, she jumps at the chance. However, nothing is going to go smoothly for her as the journey involves delays, missed connections, stop overs and making two new friends! That’s all before she gets to Corfu which is when all the fun really starts . . .
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, such a fun read to escape into! It is a skilful mix of romance, family dramas, friendship and secrets intertwined to make a delightful page turner and a heartwarming story. I have no hesitation in highly recommending it!
I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.
Really enjoyed this book. Laugh out loud funny in places with fun and likeable characters.
Fabulous read and an author to keep an eye on
I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t get into it. I read through chapter 12 and then gave up. Very slow moving. Elias seems like he may be interesting, but not enough to keep reading.
