This is a great book. It’s a gangland crime thriller which is something that I enjoy.
This is so fast paced and you never know what’s coming next
Can’t wait for the next book from her
Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
Another great read by Jacqui. Never disappointed with these books. Gripped from the start. Strong characters as always. Some new characters introduced well right from the beginning.
Another wonderful book in an equally wonderful series. However, you can easily read this book as a standalone novel.
The characters in these books are interesting and unique, some of which you will really like, and others you will hate, but despite all of that they are all believable and bring the story to life.
A brilliantly written book with a perfectly paced storyline full of suspense, this book is undoubtedly a page turner.
I'm sorry but Jacqui Rose, you can't just leave a book there, and expect us to wait for the next one - I want more and I want it now!
Can you possibly tell that I loved this book?
If you have been reading my reviews for a while you will know that this isn't' typically the sort of crime book I'd go for, but yet I'm actually hooked on the author and the series.
I needed my latest fix of Vaughan, Frankie and Aflie, and to see just what mess they would get themselves into this time.
Running alongside that there are a multitude of other storylines, including one that made me really feel for all the young girls involved in it, including Ellie, who is a bit of a prick, but at the same time doesn't deserve to be in the situations she finds herself in.
This is fast paced, keeps you on your toes, you never know who may double cross who as its a world where loyalty rarely exists and on the whole everyone is out for themselves.
I would love to see Jacqui Rose's books made into a TV series, as they really do have a bit of everything.
Now bring on the next book already, I need more!
Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I didn’t realise when I started this book that it was part of a series and having not read any it was quite hard to understand the characters. I found the storyline to be a little slow and it wasn’t until near the end of the book that it got gripping. I think I would’ve probably enjoyed this book a lot more if I had read the other books in the series.
Another fabulous book the same serious by this author although you could happily read as a stand alone without knowing about the others as the references to the past are enough to explain anything that is necessary. Love these characters and you will love some and hate some but they are totally believable. One that you won't want to put down. Rose has fast become one of my favourite storytellers.
I love this author to date I have never read a book and not enjoyed it thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to read this really cant wait to read more
Franny Doyle is back along with Vaughn Sadler who was last seen on the docks after Wan Huang's brother hi was killed. Wan is part of the Triads and wants the head of Vaughn for the death of his brother, Henry who is protecting Vaughn from Wan at least that is the way it appears. Henry has his own problems with his wife Tia, her sister Tammy and then later with daughter Milly. When teenage girls show up dead around the area the police become looking for any help and Cooper turns to Franny someone he has known from his past. At the same time with Franny working for Wan she has also wondered why Alfie has not returned any of her calls.
With most of the characters from the last book plus others, you have a good story. Though I found the last book to be a more fast and gritter story for me I do think people will like this story especially towards the end when you begin to see more of the twist and turns start to play out and that is when this story begins to remind me of the previous book. Still a good book with good characters. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com (less)
Wow. This book was heart stopping right to the end i loved it. Main characters were fab. Storyline was gritty. Hope there is another one soon jacqui rose?
Yes!!! Stop what you're doing..........Find a quiet place and open your Kindle........But, make sure you have a drink etc handy!
You won't want to move from your seat once you start reading this new installment of Alfie, Vaughn Sadler, and Franny Doyle and Wan Huang.......OMG what a brilliant book Rival by Jacqui Rose was.
Jacqui's books will get your heart-racing if you love new gangland books. If you love reading these authors Kimberley Chambers’ Queenie and Martina Cole, this is the new author to get your teeth stuck into.
Another 5 stars from me Jacqui, Your books just get better and better!!! Bloody Brilliant.
Looking forward to the next installment especially as this one had a cracking OMG ending!!!!
I highly recommend this series of books.
Big Thank you to NetGalley, Avon and the author Jacqui Rose for the digital ARC.
My opinions on the book are unbiased, honest and voluntary.
We catch up with Alfie, Franny and Vaughn who are still in a bad place with each other. Wan and Harry seem to be calling all the shots now, but are things exactly as they seem. This is a great read following all the scraps they get themselves into. Will they ever make up and will they all get through this alive. You need to read the rest of the series first if you’ve not already, but they are a great series so you won’t be disappointed. Another five star read from Jacqui.
This is my favourite book in this series so far. It was great to find out what Franny, Alfie and Vaughn were up to again and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
With the fallout from the previous book the three of them have gone their separate ways and each of them is as unhappy as the other with where they’ve ended up.
Wan and Harry are drugging underage girls and making them take part in sick and twisted sex games with anyone willing to pay.
Carter wants to stop this but needs some help from the inside.
Soon two of their lives are in danger and with Wan and Harry after them, they have to do the unthinkable.
This is a gripping gangland crime thriller that I can highly recommend.
Thanks to Avon and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Another gripping gangland thriller from the very talented Jacqui Rose. Like all the other books by this author I loved this one and races through it . Superb writing.
Another great read from the Doyle Series!
Always good to catch up with the gang and there exploits.
An intense gangland read full of
Suspense, Suspicion, Drama,
Jacqui never disappoints 🤗
I was looking forward to reading this new instalment in the series with Franny,Alfie &Vaughan and I really enjoyed it. I have loved the whole series and this is just as good. A real gritty suspenseful storyline that I didn't want to put down. Bring on the next one!!
I’d like to thank Avon Books UK and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Rival’ written by Jacqui Rose in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Wan Huang is head of the Triads gang in London and Vaughn Sadler and Harry Jacobs, who Franny Doyle wants to destroy, are working for him. When Franny is given proof that Wan and Harry are using and disposing of young girls, she and Vaughn put aside their differences and work together to put Wan Huang behind bars.
Jacqui Rose has done it again, she’s written a gritty action-packed gangland thriller that’s addictive reading. It’s great to once again meet up with the characters who’ve made the previous novels so popular, Franny, and Alfie who makes a welcome return from Spain. ‘Rival’ has a strong and fast-paced plot, sometimes bloodthirsty but always compelling, lots of drama and suspense, repulsive characters, and shocking twists and turns. The final page leaves us with a cliffhanger – will she or won’t she? I eagerly await the next in the series to find out what happens next.
Absolutely loved this latest instalment in the series following Franny, Alfie, Vaughn and Harry. The story is fast paced and gritty. Full of suspense. Loved it. Can't wait to find out what happens next.
Thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books and the author for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'd never heard of this author or read any of her books previous to this but I'm a fan of the genre. It's not as raw or violent as some other authors who write in this style which I missed a little because I felt a lack of tension. But if you sometimes find other authors a bit much, this would be perfect for you. It had the typical gangster feel, revenge, enemies, with a touch of love thrown in. I really enjoyed the story but I felt disconnected from the characters, there wasn't enough depth to them, which maybe added to the lack of tension I felt. The more I read, the more intrigued I was about the characters. I felt like an outsider who was late to the party. As soon as I finished the book, I looked up the description of all her previous books because I was convinced there must be previous books including these characters and there is. The book can be read without reading any others but I was hooked and want to know the history of the characters so I can't wait to read her past catalogue.
Enjoyed this latest from Jacqui rose following the story of Alfie Vaughn & Alfie but I didn't love it. I think it would be good to see some new material now.
