Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book! I was hooked from page 1! Sometimes I struggled with thinking that Tabitha was stupid or naive!? That could be a challenge at times just thinking about why she didn't stand up for herself more? This story really shows you how hard it is to trust people even those you think are closest to you (like your husband)! "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" definitely rings true in this one! I recommend this book if you are looking for a twisting story that will hold your attention! Thank you again to NetGalley!!
Tabitha Girard and Connor Ford meet at his country club and have a summer fling that meant everything to Tabitha. Then, years later, Connor turns up again in Tabitha's life, now older, richer, and desperately unhappy. He had married Nina for money, a wealthy, neurotic, controlling woman he never loved, he already loved Tabitha. Nina takes her own life, and Connor can finally be with Tabitha. But Tabitha finds a diary. In it, she finds the chilling statement written by Nina. "I’m writing this to raise an alarm in the event of my untimely death, If I die unexpectedly, it was foul play, and Connor was behind it. Connor—and her.” Who is "her"? Who is Connor Ford? Why did he marry Nina? Is Tabitha his true love, or a convenient affair? Nina's death has Tabitha wondering if what a wife knew will get her killed.
I thought the premise of this suspense novel was intriguing - a woman from the wrong side of the tracks (Tabitha) reunites years later with her rich boyfriend from high school only to find that he's in a complicated marriage to an extremely wealthy woman. Through a series of twists and turns, Tabitha ends up tossed into the world of the rich and famous, only to find that the people around her will do anything to gain access to money.
I'll have to admit there were a few twists towards the end of the book that I didn't see coming. I always love when a plot twist catches me off guard. However, there were a lot of elements of the story that just didn't come together for me. The beginning felt like it started out really slow, so there was way to much buildup to the thriller aspects. It was also kind of hard to believe that Tabitha was as naive as she came across - there were many decisions she made that felt completely ridiculous to me. Then as the climax of the book came about, there were tons of plot holes that were never resolved (and later made me frustrated to think about!). Most of the characters' actions and behaviors didn't really make sense in the grand scheme of the book. Although there was plenty of action in the end (car chase, shoot-out, etc.), I just couldn't get past the inconsistencies in the plot.
Thank you Netgalley, St. Martin’s press and Michelle Campbell for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! This was a fast paced read! I haven’t been loving thrillers as much this year but this one caught my attention right away and I couldn’t put it down.
Tabitha and Connor meet over the summer when they’re in high school. It started off as a reverse Dirty Dancing. She works at the resort and he’s the wealthy boy. When he pays attention to her she quickly breaks the rules for him and falls quickly in love. Of course when his relatives find out it doesn’t last long and they don’t see each other for more than a decade when he walks into her restaurant. I felt their connection was a little far fetched after all that time, but they quickly rekindled their romance. The only problem is he married to a wealthy woman named Nina. He tells Tabitha he wants to be with her but can’t until Nina breaks it off or he’ll trigger the prenup and be left penniless. She goes to his wife’s mansion to speak to him and then the chaos really starts.
I really enjoyed how the story progressed and enjoyed the twist. I did feel like Tabitha idolized Conner more than she should have since he got her into a pretty bad situation. I was very bothered by Tabitha saying she was told she could have a glass of wine a week during the second trimester when there is no safe amount of alcohol.
Overall I enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend to a friend.
I will add the link once I share it on my Instagram page.
This book was definitely captivating. I didn’t want to put it down. Michele Campbell is a brilliant author that always surprises me! I never know what to expect from her books. There was so much build up and suspense. I didn’t know who to believe and who to trust. A few of the plot twists, I kind of suspected right before it was revealed. But others, I definitely wasn’t expecting that.
This review is only 4 stars because I keep a bit let down by the epilogue. I’m not sure what exactly I wanted. But the book seemed to have a big boom and then fizzled out quickly.
Overall it was a really good book.
Once again Michele Campbell has written a ‘must read’ novel. I couldn’t put down ‘The Wife Who Knew Too Much’, reading late into the evening until it was finished. This is my second Michele Campbell book, and I am definitely a fan. The twists and turns of this novel take you from the rural countryside of New Hampshire, to the opulent and over the top Long Island super rich. Ms. Campbell integrates mystery and romance in the page turner novel. I highly recommend ‘ The Wife Who Knew too Much’, and Michele Campbell as an author. Thank you for the great read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. When Tabitha runs into her ex-boyfriend sparks fly, but there is more to the situation than it seems. Their budding reconnection is hampered by several things, including his marriage. The author does a great job of building the history between Tabitha and Connor, as well as the other relationships in their lives. This is a classic whodunnit that leaves you guessing until the very end. I read it in one sitting and I bet you will, too!
I loved this book! I'm a sucker for a thriller with commentary about wealth so this book sucked me right in. Tabitha is a complex character but still rather likable. I loved the suspense and the way the author described the setting.
Quick, fast paced, gripping, dark thriller. This was a wild ride that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Thank you to the Publisher and Netgalley for the advanced reader copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
I loved this! It was very engaging and it held my attention from start to finish. This book deals with the deep questions of what really motivates people. My only complaint is that I found the main female character to be a bit immature and annoying sometimes but overall I enjoyed!
Things have been exactly easy for tabitha! Her life has been a struggle from very young age.
She met and married a man who wasn’t what he seemed and through this broken and failed relationship she seemed to go for more of the same.
When an old boyfriend Connor came back into her life She just couldn’t resist the charm, good luck and now very wealthy.
But tabitha Had this niggling feeling something wasn’t right.
Things started to spiral and one thing led to another. This book kept me on the edge of my chair wanting more.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this early. Highly recommend.
Another amazing book by Michele Campbell!!! In life who can you trust? Is money really more important than love? Who murdered Nina and was it for the money? Read and find out!!! Enjoy!!!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins Press for a free DRC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh boy, I wanted to like this. The description sounded awesome which is why I requested to read and review it. I’m so sad how this turned out because I wanted a mystery not a creepy love story. My problem with this story is how naive and obsessed Tabitha (the main character) is that I actually can’t stand her. I also didn’t enjoy how unrealistic the storyline was that it actually pulled me out of the story quiet a bit.
This is just my opinion of this story but there’s tons of 4 star reviews for this book so if you’re interested you should still check it out.
I didn’t care for this book at all. The pace was slow, the lead character so unbelievably naive and the twists were fairly predictable. By the time I got to the end I didn’t like any of the characters nor did I care what happened to them. I wouldn’t recommend this.
This book knocked my socks off! I’ve read every book by Michelle Campbell and she never ever disappoints! This book was so good! I read it in one day! Couldn’t put it down because I needed to know how it all was going to end! I love that it was another book set with a beach background! It was a very well laid out who done it to the very end!
Tabitha and Connor reconnect years after a summer romance that left her shattered. Connor is now married to Nina, an older wealthy woman but swears the marriage is over. When Nina is found dead of apparent suicide, the pair waste no time getting married. However, suspicion and greed around Nina’s death immediately challenge their union. A who one it mystery full of plot twists.
.
I enjoyed this fast-paced read as it had me intrigued from the first chapter. I was somewhat annoyed by how naive Tabitha was and how insensitive Connor was.
Wild thriller that keeps you on your toes!
Tabby Girard hasn't seen Connor Ford for thirteen years, since he broke her heart as a teen. Back then he was the handsome rich kid whom she fell in love with while working at his country club. But she wasn't good enough for the Ford family, especially Connor's grandmother. Tabby quickly learns Connor is richer than ever now. He's married to Nina Levitt, a wealthy and famous woman twenty years his senior. He married for money, not love, he tells Tabby, and he's miserable. He portrays Nina as a controlling and jealous wife. But if he cheats on Nina and leaves her, their prenup dictates that Connor receives nothing. Then Nina is found dead in the pool at Windswept, her Southampton mansion, where she had just thrown her annual fourth of July party. It seems like Tabby and Connor can finally be together. But Tabby quickly grows suspicious. Was Nina's death really a suicide? And if not, does that mean she's in love with a murderer?
"I'm writing this to raise an alarm in the event of my untimely death. This is hard to admit, even to myself, let alone to the world. My husband is planning to kill me. For obvious reasons. He's in love with someone else. And he wants my money."
It's funny, the writing in this book felt simple and stilted at times. However, I cannot deny that this is a thrilling read. It's fast-paced, and I flew through the pages. Campbell kept me guessing--something that isn't always easy to do--and offered some excellent twists. Kudos to her there. Alternating perspectives between Connor and Tabby works well, as does throwing in some flashbacks from Nina. It all adds up to a very suspenseful, slightly crazy, and quite enjoyable thriller.
Best written book? No. Wild and crazy ride with lots of surprises? Yes. (And also, make better life choices, Tabby.) 3.75 stars, rounded to 4 here.
Another amazing book by Michelle Campbell! Loved it!
Just when you thought dreams don't come true, the do! However, be careful what you wish for, it may not turn out the way you thought it would! Full of twist, turns and excitement! I would highly recommend this thriller!
Michele Campbell does it again! A twisty, winding road of trickery that I gobbled up in one sitting.
This book wasn’t a home run for me. I found it to be a bit boring and completely unbelievable. I didn’t like the main character at all. Her constant second guessing was very irritating.
I did like how the book began with Nina’s diary entry. I also enjoyed the pacing of the story.
