I read The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell while on a beach vacation, and that was the PERFECT location to read this. The story is a fun thriller, with all the soap-opera antics a vacation read should be!
RICH WIFE-She is killed and her diary casts suspicion on her much younger husband.
TROPHY HUSBAND- He married for money and the lifestyle Rich Wife could give him. Unfortunately, an ironclad prenup says that unless wife leaves him, AND he hasn't been caught cheating, he gets absolutely nothing.
NEW WIFE-She married the newly widowed hottie because she has loved him half her life after a failed teenage romance with him.....oh, AND she got pregnant during an extramarital fling with him before the wife died.
Both the widowed hubby AND his new wife are suspects in Rich Wife's death. But then, don't the rich and famous have plenty of enemies usually? So there could be any number of people who might want her dead: Her first husband's business partner, his ex-wife who believed Rich Wife ruined their marriage, the long-time housekeeper who knows lots of family secrets, but who never says much, and so on....
Add to the growing list of suspects the ex husband of the New Wife. He is trouble and an ex-con to boot. How does he play into the mystery?
While I did figure out part of the mystery fairly early on, I was mesmerized with the melodrama and was surprised quite a few times. I would recommend this thriller to anyone who wants a lighter thriller that is fun and even a bit over the top a few times. I really liked it and will continue to follow Michele Campbell as long as she keeps writing addictive, fun, beachy thrillers.
It’s not often I share the bad reviews, but I am so tired of characters that fall in love with men in a week and ignore all the bad parts of them. These characters were idiotic! Sure he was having lunch with someone who wasn’t his wife, sure he ghosted you, sure he was awful when you were young, sure his wife is suddenly dead, and what a surprise, you’re (the character) suddenly pregnant. This is dumb. This is worse than the one character in the horror movies that you know is going to die first.
I am tired of pretty, but dumb female leads. I am tired of jerk-ish male “heroes” being the key to happiness. And I am SO OVER picking up books labeled as thrillers to find that, surprise, they aren’t. Toss this into the romantic suspense genre and call it a day. There is no mystery, there is no thrill, the only thing going for this book is the pace and the one small twist that bumped it up to two stars for me. What book did y’all read?!
If you are better at the suspension of disbelief than I and you like to pine after “the one” from your less-than-stellar past then this one is for you! I’m going to toss this one into the “I-can’t-believe-I-read-this-garbage” stack and hope the next is better.
Nina Levitt is the rich widow of a philanderer. Because of that, Nina thinks she is extremely cautious before she marries Connor Ford. But Connor is a con man. Connor reconnects with a high school love. He spins a tale about how he and Nina have fallen out of love but he can’t divorce her. If Connor files for divorce, the pre-nup means he will leave the marriage with nothing. He “loves” Tabatha but has to figure out how to get Nina to divorce him. When Tabatha discovers she is pregnant, she tries desperately to contact Connor. Finally, she gives up and drives to their oceanside manor. It is the Fourth of July; the date Nina gives a huge party. Tabatha manages to crash the party but things don’t turn out as she expected. Nina had plans of her own – she was going to throw Connor out because she had proof of his infidelities. Nina is found face down in the swimming pool the next morning. At first it Nina’s death is declared a suicide but nothing is as it seems. Tabatha’s life falls apart when she is arrested for Nina’s murder. It seems like the same old tale and in some ways it is. But there are several twists to the story that keeps it interesting. I am going to be looking for more books by Michele Campbell.
I wanted to love this one, but unfortunately it didn't stand out to me among the (many) other wealth-and-privilege-fueled domestic thrillers. I found the past, about Tabitha's early romance with smarmy Connor, somewhat compelling, but the rest of the plot simply didn't get me in its thrall. Perhaps I should have known better than to pick this one up, as Campbell's 2019 thriller, A Stranger on the Beach, was a major miss for me as well—but I enjoyed the writing in that one, which led me to believe that a different storyline might make another of her thrillers worth reading. The writing is still strong, and the pacing in The Wife Who Knew Too Much is a bit better, but it still missed the mark and felt a smidge too formulaic.
This book starts off with juicy diary entry from Nina explaining if she is found dead, her husband did it. After that it jumps over to Tabithas POV. The first part of the book was a little slow for me, and I found myself bored with the flashbacks to Tabitha + Conners past. And I wanted to see a little bit more from Nina’s POV throughout the book. ⠀
About halfway through the book it does pick up, and I wasn’t sure which character to trust. Some of the twists were predictable for me, but there were some that still surprised me. I wasn’t able to guess how it ended, I truly thought I had it all figured out.... but I was wrong!
This is a thriller that will pull you in right from the first page. This is my third book by Michele Campbell and it was definitely comparable to her other ones. The story is a typical domestic thriller where the husband cheats and someone winds up dead, but the rest of the book was not predictable so I appreciated that. There were quite a few suspects and the twists were all well done. The pacing was really fast paced and kept me reading. Overall this was a great thriller and I look forward to her next book.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much follows Tabitha Girard, a waitress in rural New Hampshire as the boy who broke her heart years ago comes back into her life. Connor Ford comes back to New Hampshire older and significantly wealthier, having married his fabulously wealthy wife Nina for money. Connor tells Tabitha that he never stopped loving her, and does not love his wife. When Nina is found dead in her pool, in an apparent suicide, Connor moves Tabitha to the couple’s grandiose Hamptons home, Windswept. As Tabitha becomes more involved in life at Windswept, she starts to question how well she really knows Connor. Did Nina really kill herself or was she murdered?
I really enjoyed The Wife Who Knew Too Much. There were so many twists and turns, it was hard to know who to trust from one minute to the next. Similar to Campbell’s last book, A Stranger on the Beach, it is told from multiple perspectives. The ending totally surprised me! It twisted in a completely different direction than I expected, and kept me guessing until the very last page.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michelle Campbell
Brief Summary: Tabitha fell in love with Conner ford as teenager and when he reenters her life years later they engage in a chemistry charged affair. When Conner’s wealthy and famous wife Nina commits suicide, he is finally free to be with her. But it’s never easy to quickly step into another woman’s life and as usual in Michelle Campbell’s novels; things are not what they seem to be. This is my third book by Michelle Campbell and I eagerly anticipated her follow-up novel.
Highlights: This is a fast paced thriller read that I was quickly sucked into. Campbell does a great job creating shady characters with questionable motives. I was soon questioning how reliable they each were and what was actually going on in appreciation for the brilliance of the author’s plot twists. This is one of those novels that you don’t want to go into knowing too much. I really enjoyed trying to figure out who I believed and what was really going on.
Explanation of Rating: 4.5/5 stars- this is a perfect scheduling clearing read I finished in two days during a busy week. In addition, this grabbed my attention during a book hangover from The Night Swim. This is definitely my favorite book of hers and shouldn’t be missed this summer.
Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review
I stopped this book at the 50% mark. Tabitha in my opinion is too old to be this naive and it really irritated me the way she acts in this book. Connor was a jerk and I didn't like him either. The only person I did like what killed and I pretty much long interest in continuing with this story.
Buckle up because this one will take you on a wild ride! Full of twists and turns, THE WIFE WHO KNEW TOO MUCH by Michele Campbell ramps up and keeps you flying through it’s twists and turns, reminding me of the rollercoasters I love so much. Just when you think you know what’s happening, Campbell throws in a curve that has you re-thinking what you thought you knew.
A thriller that keeps you guessing, it is the perfect escape from every-day life. Make sure you set aside enough time, you will hate putting this one down.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

This psychological thriller is the story of Tabitha and Connor. An odd couple that right to the end I didn't think were in a healthy or trusting relationship. They met as teens from different economic and socio backgrounds. They began an unlikely relationship that was squashed by Connor's family. Fast forward years and now they have reconnected but Connor is married to a wealthy and powerful woman. The fireworks begin when Tabitha and Connor reunite just before the death of Connor's wife. Enter into this many side characters that play different roles in the mystery of her death. A good thriller to keep you up at night finishing this one!
This was an okay thriller. I pretty much saw what the plot twist was. It would be a good starter thriller if you aren't used to reading thrillers very often.
I recently read The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell. I was intrigued with the journal entry by Nina, a wealthy socialite stating if she was found dead that her husband did it. Of course, the next thing we know - Nina Is Dead! This story fell kind of flat for me, and I kept wanting it to be more twisty thriller than it was meant to be.. I think if you wanted an easy, breezy beach read that this would be perfect. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
Tabitha Girard had her heart broken years ago by Connor Ford. He was preppy and handsome. She was a pool girl at his country club. Their affair should have been a summer fling. But it meant everything to Tabitha. Years later, Connor comes back into Tabitha’s life—older, richer, and desperately unhappy. He married for money, a wealthy, neurotic, controlling woman whom he never loved. He has always loved Tabitha. When Connor’s wife Nina takes her own life, he’s free. He can finally be with Tabitha. It seems to be a perfect ending to a fairy tale romance that began so many years ago. But then, Tabitha finds a diary that makes her question everything. review: I have really enjoyed the author’s other books A Stranger on the Beach and She Was the Quiet One, so I was really looking forward to another book by her! The Wife Who Knew Too Much packs a punch from the very beginning and will leave you questioning who to trust throughout the book. The short-lived love triangle between Nina, Conner and Tabitha is what soap operas are made of and leaves a mess in it’s path. Throughout the book I had a love-hate relationship with the characters – one minute I would be rooting for them, then the next I was rooting against them. It made for a really fun domestic thriller and fast-paced read. rating: 34 out of 5 ⭐️

There’s something about teenage love, that first love, that always stays with a person. Sometimes you find yourself thinking back, remembering those days…in this story, not only does Tabitha get the chance to rekindle that first love, but it shines almost as bright as the ring that gets placed on her finger.
There were times I wanted to shake this girl, tell her to see that this summer fling was just using her and yet, I kept turning the pages, even when I thought for sure I understood what was going to happen.
I was wrong.
The story starts with a diary entry that will stay with you, niggling at the back of your mind, skewing how you read this book. I loved it! These diary entries is what kept me reading, when I should have been sleeping.
You’re going to enjoy this one. Grab it, be prepared for the twists, the turns, the teases…because it’s going to be worth it.
Yet another twisty love (?) story that kept me reading until late at night. Still a bit on the predictable side.

The Wife Who Knew Too Much is a domestic drama with lots of twists. Conner and Nina are a power couple, rich and beautiful. Tabatha was Conner’s first love, she is still living in the same beach town waitressing and dealing with the fallout left by her ex-husband after he was sent to jail. When Connor comes back into Tabatha’s life, who will she be able to trust?
Pretty standard domestic drama, but I do love to lose myself in these in the summer. Especially the ones set in the lives of the rich, they always get themselves in the most dramatic situations! For me, it’s the best summer reading because it is definitely an escape from real life for a little while!
The beginning of The Wife Who Knew Too Much started off great for me. It was fast paced and gripping. It starts with an entry from Nina’s diary about how she’s discovered her husband has been cheating on her and thinks he may kill her. She mentions a mysterious “her” that also may be behind her death if something goes wrong. Not long into the book it get sort of blah for me. It felt like the author tried too hard to pull fake outs and in the end it didn’t come together. This one fell short for me and I just didn’t love it.

This book jumps right into the story and the intrigue right from the word go, and works to hook you from page 1. This story is mostly told from Tabitha's point of view, but we also get a few chapters from Nina Levitt's point of view, both from her as a narrator and through a few of her diary entries. And the first entry that we see very clearly says "If you find that I've died unexpectedly, my husband and his lover have planned it." Talk about drawing you in early! So we spend the whole story with the new wife, Tabitha, trying to figure out if Connor really is responsible, or if he's innocent and someone else is to blame, or if Nina simply commited suicide.
I know there were some mixed reviews on whether readers enjoyed Tabitha as a character, but I really enjoyed her. She makes plenty of mistakes, and there are a few choices that she makes throughout the story that you'd like to believe that you'd be smarter than in the same situations, but I think that's what I liked about her the most. I love reading a flawed character. And Tabitha, while she has a really great heart and a pretty solid moral compass, she is definitely flawed. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to spend this time in her head trying to figure out the mystery of who to trust. Especially as she was so suddenly thrust into this crazy world of money that is brand new to her, and watching her try to navigate it. I will say, I also really enjoyed the character of Nina, and I wish we could have gotten a few more chapters of her story. I know, she's the supposed victim, and dies right at the start of the story, so we can't get too much time in her head, or there wouldn't be a mystery for the readers. But still, I said what I said. I enjoyed her as a character, and I wanted to get to know her better.
For the story, there were plenty of twists and turns to keep me hanging on until the very last page. There were a few littler twists that I guessed might happen, or that I slightly saw coming, but none of them were big enough that I found myself less invested in the story or how it got from point A to point B. This book had me staying up late and reading in bed past my bedtime, because I wanted to get to the end and see what happened next! I definitely felt the "fine, just one more chapter" draw over and over again while reading this one.
I would definitely recommend this book to my friends, and especially to anyone who, like me, was a fan of A Stranger On the Beach which is also by Campbell. This book had me hooked and feeling invested right from the beginning, and I didn't feel like it let me go until the last page. I think if I were to reread this book I would want to read it in the evening by a fireplace with a large glass of red wine!
This one hooked me in right from the start. The entry in Nina's diary was intriguing and gave me just enough mystery and suspicion. The story was full of twist and turns and some pretty shallow, callous people! I enjoyed trying to figure out what was going to happen, however, the clever Ms. Campbell kept me guessing right to the end.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Ms. Campbell for an ARC copy of The Wife Who Knew Too Much in exchange for my honest review.
