A twisty suspenseful book that engaged me from the first page until the ending. A mystery thriller that revolves around an old relationship rekindled, a rich wife that mysteriously is found dead and an arrest for murder. My only issue with this book is that the main character, Tabitha, continually makes poor choices all through the book and just keeps getting herself into trouble. The character of Connor is unlikeable and he treats Tabitha badly throughout the story, yet at the end she still loves him and forgives him for being a jerk. Despite this, it is a good solid mystery with a satisfying ending. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
The book opens with a jaw-dropping sentence from a diary: "I am writing this to raise an alarm in the event of my untimely death." She does die. Not a spoiler, chapter two tells how.
Nina, the filthy-rich socialite leaves behind her husband who re-marries within a few months. Tabitha, the second wife, is a waitress. We read about how high society lives. People are arrested.
I rarely read a book in a single day, but this one I sped through. Twists and suspense galore.
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for publishing the book.
This was a really good read with some twists I didn’t even see coming!
I thought I had this one figured out until I didn’t.
This was the second book I’ve read by michele campbell and I really enjoyed them both.
I love a good thriller! What I love more is when it starts out with a bang! The story begins with Nina writing in her journal, telling whoever found it, that she was murdered by her husband. Wow! Now we automatically suspect him.
I really enjoyed Tabitha's character. The way Tabitha was portrayed was enjoyable. A single woman, who fell in love at a young age and had her heart broken, just trying to survive. Hard working and never catching a break made it very relatable for me. Conner on the other hand, I could not stand him. He was portrayed as a rich and snobby man, who could do whatever the hell he wanted. He is self-centered, obnoxious, and I really hoped that he was the bad guy!
This thriller is fast paced. The chapters were short, which kept me reading just one more chapter. There were plenty of twists and turns, that kept you on the edge trying to guess how it all ends up.
If your in the market for a thriller with plenty of lies, deceit, betrayal, heartbreak, money, mystery, and murder this is the book for you!
I enjoyed this book though the title seemed a bit misleading to me. I kept expecting something else. Which wife knew too much? I guess both of them.
The writing is good - as Michele Campbell's previous ones were - though the characters didn't click with me. So much of the story was a bit unbelievable but still an enjoyable summer read. I hated the ending!! Didn't expect that at all!
I found this book to be enjoyable, much like Michele Campbell's It's Always the Husband, which I also received as an arc. I'm starting to get a sense of Campbell's writing style and I find I can really enjoy it. The story was well crafted and I found it interesting. What fell short for me was the predictability. The plot twists weren't all that surprising or shocking and I could sense a general idea of the ending as it drew near. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the ride. Overall, I gave this a 3/5 star for the enjoyability.
I wanted to read this book because I read “It’s Always the Husband” by the same author and gave it 5 stars.
I did enjoy this book, but nat as much as the first one I read. The beginning started out incredible. She had me hooked from the first chapter and I immediately told a friend she needed to read it too.
I enjoyed some of the back stories on the characters. The reason I took off one star was the character Tabitha began to get whiny when she was the narrator. Some of the characters personalities were inconsistent to the beginning of the story. And I didn’t “Love” the ending.
The book is defiantly worth reading. It is a great beach read.
I received this galley from NetGalley.
"These things that are pleasing you will hurt you somehow."
This beings with a poor girl meeting a rich boy and falling in love. Poor girl meets same rich boy many years later and falls in love.... but will they live happily ever after? Not when there is a bump in the road and that bump is his wife who is twenty years older than him and incredibly wealthy.
Tabitha (Tabby/Tabby Cat) is that poor rich girl who meets Connor the rich young man at a country club. They fall in love, but his grandmother is having nothing to do with that. You do not date that help is her motto. Years later when Connor walks into the bar where Tabitha works insert scene from Casablanca "Of All the Gin Joints in All the Towns in All the World, She (He)Walks into Mine." They find love all over again except Connor is married to Nina, his wealthy older wife who has an iron clad prenup that means he will get nothing if he has an affair. Then Nina is found dead........
Tabitha and Connor quickly marry and just as fast as their marriage, Tabitha comes to the conclusion that all that glitters is not necessarily gold. There are a lot of people in this book talking about trust. It all comes down to that in the end, doesn't it? Who can you trust in your life? Who has your back? Who will be there when you need them the most? Some hard truths, some twists and turns, some drama, some revelations a bunch of lies, betrayal, and a little ghosting. This was a fast read that kept the pages turning. Will you figure out what is going on? Will you like any of the characters? I wanted to shake a couple of them. Geez Louise, wake up Tabby I found myself thinking a couple of times. Lord have mercy, she agitated me. Wake up and smell the coffee, honey (or least the lies) and Connor, well I have a lot to say but will not so you can read and decide for yourself.
This was entertaining, parts easy to figure out, characters that had me shaking my head, an ending I wanted to be a little better, but still enjoyable. Another book that lets the reader escape from all that is going on in the world and fall into the pages of this book.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own
A fluffy summer thriller. Most of the story is wildly unbelievable, but it’s a fun read. The action really picked up in the second half and it kept me turning pages.
Thank you Netgalley, and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book. Michele Campbell is just so great! This book did not disappoint.
The book opens up with Nina, a very famous and rich business woman, she is writing I believe in her journal, about what is going to happen to her in the next few hours, she is married to a younger man who she feels is after her for her money!!! And I love how Michele kept us hanging by a thread with this alone, she had me at the edge of my seat trying to figure out, is it just Connor or a group effort over here?
Anyway, I loved Tabitha, she is the other woman, and she is someone who has loved Connor mostly all of her teen years until now. Years later she sees him pull up at the restaurant where she works at, and Connor being the charmer, and Tabitha being helplessly in love fell for him. But their past is something that marked how I saw Connor. Connor comes from a family that had money, and they were very prestigious, and like most love stories, Tabitha is the beautiful poor girl and Connor is the rich kid who can’t hang with her because of her status, blah blah!
But one thing I will say is that Money is the root of all evil. There are so many twists and turns, and “I hate this character, I love this character” type of moments, I don’t want to spoil too much, but there are so many surprises leading up to the end, that will leave you with your mouth open. I was shocked with how everything happened, I wish the end wasn’t the end though, I wanted pure JUSTICE!! Other than that, it was a good one.
Thank you to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The story starts out with a summer romance between Tabitha, a girl from a poor family, and Conner, a boy from a well off family. They meet at the beach club that Tabitha works at and Conner's family has a membership at.
It was a romance that wouldn't survive the summer.
Many years later Conner walks into the restaurant that Tabitha is working at and their lives become entangled again. It is a tricky situation because Conner is married to a very wealthy well known woman.
A death, a marriage and a second chance for Conner and Tabitha but things won't be as easy as they are hoping.
The situation is far from simple and some revelations will have you rethinking what you thought you knew.
A great summer read sure to be loved by everyone looking for a little escape.
This book was released on 7/28 and if you have read and enjoyed past novels by Ms Campbell this novel is a pinch different in my opinion but that's not a bad thing. It's an AWESOME thing. Total grand slam of a novel.
Once I started it, I couldn't put it down.
Ms Campbell writes freaking fantastic characters- ones I love to hate and hate to love and cheer maybe when I should or shouldn't and oh you get the idea LOL. And her mixed story telling, yet again elevates what could have been a so-so book into an even better one.
This book broke my heart just a tad- again,I found this a bit of a departure from Ms Campbell's previous novels but I LOVED IT. Every twisty, compelling word.
I give this book 4.5 hearts (out of 5).
“The Wife Who Knew Too Much” was the first book that I’ve read by Michele Campbell. It was twisty and I enjoyed the story. The pacing however was a little slower than I would have liked. And while the story was great, it was also predictable at times. I guessed what was going on as the book went on. Overall, it was an ok read. Perfect for some summer reading!
This was a well-written psychological thriller. It kept our interest and we stayed up late finishing it!
Tabitha meets Connor Ford when they are teenagers. He’s rich and a member of the country club she works at. They immediately have a connection and fall in love, but that ends when his grandmother forbids him to see her anymore. He lets her leave and they never speak again. That is, until he comes back into her life when he walks into the restaurant she works at twelve years later. Connor is now married to the wealthy and famous Nina Levitt, but when he reconnects with Tabby they can’t stay away from each other. Problem is, Connor gets nothing if he divorces Nina and she finds out he’s unfaithful. When Nina is found dead at her annual July 4th party, Tabitha takes her place as Mrs. Connor Ford. Was it suicide or did someone murder Nina to get what they want?
First, I want to mention that this book has a great opening paragraph. “I’m writing this to raise an alarm in the event of my untimely death. This is hard to admit, even to myself, let alone the world. My husband is planning to kill me. For obvious reasons. He’s in love with someone else. And he wants my money.” I mean this just drew me right into the book.
Tabitha starts telling her story in chapter three, and to me it was written a lot like a police interview. Like she was telling her side of the story. It was an odd way to read it when that wasn’t what was actually happening. I didn’t like this style of writing at all. I did like the few chapters written by Nina. They were much more intriguing.
I figured the big twist out very early on. I thought it was completely obvious, but I still needed to know more so stuck with it. This book held my attention and was a quick read, but it didn’t live up to its potential. I think there were a lot of unanswered questions even in the one year later chapter that I wish the author had answered.
I didn’t find any of these characters likable which made it hard to root for any of them. Tabitha was so naive and an unreliable narrator. Connor was a spoiled rich kid who became a greedy adult. Nina was probably my favorite character if I had to pick one, but she’s not in the book very much.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Tabitha and Connor had a summer romance when they were teenagers. It went no further. Years later, Connor suddenly reappears with quite a story. He had married for money and there is an iron clad prenuptial agreement. He is unhappy, but admits he isn't willing to give up his lavish lifestyle. They rekindle their relationship and Connor vows to find a way to divorce his wife and not lose his fortune. Tabitha agrees to wait for him, but he becomes impossible to reach when she urgently needs to talk with him. An attempt is made on her life and from there things become even more complicated and dangerous.
In this well crafted story, it is hard to know who to believe or trust. Tabitha appears to only want to spend her life with Connor, wealth or no wealth. Connor knows himself very well and will do whatever it takes to keep his wealth. How far will he go to do this?
The Wife Who Knew Too Much is a psychological thriller that moves very quickly and keeps readers engrossed until the very end..
I received a complimentary copy of this book through St. Martin's and NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
If you love thrillers you will love this book! I was unprepared for all of the twists and I LOVED IT. I will definitely be reading more from Michele Campbell in the future.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review! The Wife Who Knew Too Much is available now.
I’m pretty middle of the road on this one. I think this is a great summer poolside read, but not much more than that.
Let’s start with the positives! I loved that this one really kept me guessing and I didn’t trust any of the characters. Everyone was shady and it seemed like every character had something to hide or some ulterior motive. I had a feeling about one of the characters at around 60% but Campbell threw in a bunch of additional twists that I didn’t see coming.
On to the negatives…
Tabitha was really the only character that felt fleshed out. The rest of the characters seemed underdeveloped and very surface level. I especially wanted more character development from Connor since I didn’t feel I really understood his motives or who he was in general. I also did not get any chemistry from Connor and Tabitha even though they were supposed to be soulmates reconnecting years later? I almost feel like there wasn’t enough dialogue between them for any chemistry to be developed. I also didn’t find the teen-summer-love-enduring-into-your-30s storyline very believable.
The pacing also felt off which is really important in a thriller, in my opinion. The book started to drag at about 30-40% and picked up again more towards the end. I also felt that all of the intense scenes were very short. I was left wanting more from the the action scenes and less during the in-between scenes.
I also felt that there were a few things that weren’t wrapped up well and we didn’t get a clear explanation. I usually don’t mind authors leaving some things up to the reader, but it didn’t feel intentional here. It just felt like it was forgotten or was mentioned too briefly.
Overall, I’m pretty meh on this one. Read if you want to!
⚠️ TW: mention of suicide, rape, cancer
Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this read. It wasn’t executed well enough for me and I didn’t like the main character Tabitha. I can say that the action in the story kept my attention long enough to read the whole book but overall the book felt like it was missing something or it felt like a book I have already read , a movie I already seen. I would have liked to see more of the wife mentioned then the main character. She was bland and naive and irritating at times.
From my blog: Always With a Book
Michele Campbell is becoming a go-to for the ultimate summer popcorn thriller. Her books are so twisty and addicting that you just can't help but read in one or two sittings and this latest one is no exception!
This book hooked me right from the beginning and it never really let up. The characters draw you in and while you might not love them all - there are definitely those love to hate kinds of characters here - you can't help but become consumed with them as you become invested with what is going on. I also found I wasn't sure who I could trust - everyone seems to be hiding something.
I always love a good obsession story and this one takes the cake! It had so many different twists to it, my mind was spinning. Every time I thought I had things worked out, something new would be revealed. This is definitely a book where nothing and no one is as it seems and it really keeps you guessing.
This book is one that will totally consume you once you start reading it. You will be desperate to know what really happened to Nina - that journal entry alone was pure brilliance! - and even though it's a crazy read, you won't be able to put it down until you get to that last page! I definitely recommend adding this book to your summer reading list...it's such a fun, addicting read.
