The story line....poor girl falls for rich boy in high school only to meet many years later and marry him, may not be a unique one, but Michele Campbell's spins and twists definitely make it unique. She has built her characters to be sympathetic, you want Tabitha to be happy even when you know the background music says that something bad is coming. That's the movie music in my head, just in case you were wondering. The community is full of suspicion when the new couple come home so the welcomes are not really warm. A tension filled thriller without a slow chapter so you can set it down and go to bed. Great story, great characters and the ending....you'll have to read for yourself.
This was a book I could not put down! The ending was unpredictable which is different from most thrillers. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of romantic relationship between Tabby and Conner. It started out so strong and quickly diminished. The ending could have been a great way to rekindle that relationship, but the ending fell short.
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC of this book. I have had a lot more free time to read since we have been quarantined in Covid19. I loved this mystery/thriller.
All I can say is, Wow! Michele is a brilliantly talented author. I couldn't out this down and finished it in a day. Couldn't wait to find out what happened with Tabitha and Connor. Didn't see the twist coming with Juliet. Can't wait to see what Michele comes up with next.
I will recommend it to our patrons once we open again.
5 star!
I was drawn into the book immediately by the diary entry by Nina that basically said that she knew she was going to die. Then, the plot slowed down, but I persevered in reading and was thrilled when the pace picked up again all the way to the end. Nina is a wealthy and eccentric woman who is married to Connor, a younger man who is desperately unhappy about the pre-nup he signed with Nina. He meets up again with his high school love, Tabitha, a girl who seems ripe to be used since her life is a bad fairy tale. She is working a dead-end job as a waitress when Connor comes back into her life in his pricey sports car, sweeping her off her feet and taking her to a mansion hideaway to start an affair. When Nina is killed, the action really begins. My heart raced as one suspect after another was vetted, with totally awesome clues as to whodunit. As an avid reader of mysteries, I think that helped me figure out the ending, but there were still some unexpected surprises. This book became totally absorbing about halfway through and was hard to put down. Fans of thrillers will enjoy it for sure!

I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. At first, I thought this was a typical psychological thriller about a woman falling in love with a married man and then the wife is found dead. The first half of the book was basically along this storyline but the rest of the book was really good. Every time that I thought I had it figured out, I was wrong. I really did enjoy this book. At the beginning, I thought the main character, Tabitha aka Tabby was just so naive and acted like a teenager in love. But I have to say that her character really changed and by the end of the book she became this strong woman who was going to fight for those she loved.
Another great offering from Michele Campbell. A first purchase for most general fiction collections, especially those where thrillers are popular.
When the hot rich guy from her teenage summer dreams walks back into her life, waitress Tabby is swept off her feet by Connor once again, even though he is married. He keeps promising to leave his older and rich wife, but Tabby isn't sure if he's not just playing her again like he did as a teen. But his wife dies of a suicide after a party, and suddenly Tabby has the guy and a baby on the way. But has she really gotten a dream come true or a nightmare?
This was a case of a book that was just not for me. I didn't find any of the characters particularly likeable and all were selfish people making selfish decisions. Because of the affair I didn't really care what happened to Tabby, and seeing how Connor was as a teenager, he was pretty awful and I don't know why anyone would want him.
The part with the murder/frame job was well done though.
As far as domestic thrillers this is a more unique take. I got a Rebecca, neo film noir vibe from this novel at times.
This would be an interesting film adaptation. The pace changes, time jumping and Tabitha's lack of self preservation are vexing at times but my attention was kept.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much starts with ultra wealthy Nina writing a letter saying that if she is found dead, that it was her husband who killed her. Connor is about twenty years younger than Nina, they've only been married a couple of years, their courtship could be measured in weeks/months, and yes, he was dazzled by her wealth and once he got to experience it, he didn't want to give it up. But, did he kill her?
Tabitha had a summer romance with Connor when she was seventeen and he was nineteen, until Connor's well to do grandmother made him stop stop seeing Tabitha. They haven't seen each other in twenty years but then he walks into the restaurant where Tabitha is a waitress and he wants to continue where they left off, despite the fact that he is married to Nina. After asking Tabitha to wait for him, Connor practically ghosts her, once he has to go home to Nina. Then Nina ends up dead, in a suspected suicide. Or was it suicide?
Against anyone's better judgement, Connor and Tabitha quickly marry and Tabitha learns that maybe the hardworking, never enough money, waitressing life was a much better deal than the life she has just entered into. Despite the riches, the glamor, the mansion, cars, helicopters, all the trappings of wealth, Tabitha realizes her life really may blow up in a very bad way, as she begins to doubt her husband's innocence in the death of Nina. She's trapped and she doesn't know who she can trust.
This is a very quick read and there are a yacht load of people who'd like to bring down Connor and Tabitha. Rich does not look like a good thing in this book, with all the back stabbing, hating, jealous people surrounding the couple. Among all this animosity, could Connor be Tabitha's worst enemy?
Thank you to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC.
This book kept me completely engrossed and on the edge of my seat the entire time. I did not want to put it down. Loved the storyline and the writing.
Some books you read, you just know they’ll be good. That’s because they’re authored by extremely talented writers. Michele Campbell is that author.
Thank you to Michele, St Martins Press and NetGalley for this really intoxicating read. I started and I just couldn’t put it down!
Who killed millionaire, Nina? It’s always the husband right? Or could there be more ulterior motives? An old girlfriend perhaps? After all, a woman never forgets her first love, especially if they’re broken apart by other people and still hold a candle for one another.
This fast reading novel comes out on July 28, so grab it when you can because it’s a must read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Let me start by saying, I loved this story...But hated the main characters, Connor was a selfish greedy money hungry man and Tabitha was a naive middle aged women who couldn't see what was happening because of her "love" for Connor, until she did see! Thats when this story soared! Everything about The Wife Who Knew Too Much was captivating right from the beginning. I had to read the whole story in one sitting because it kept my heart beating and my mined racing with all the twists and turns it was taking. The plot just kept getting better and better with each chapter. This was the first book I have read by Michele Campbell, but it will not be my last. Her writing is exquisite and her story telling is intriguing. Cant wait to read more of her books.
Thank you netgalley for this ARC! This book kept me engaged throughout and I'm glad I read it! I'm not sure how I feel about the ending but the suspense throughout was great. I appreciated the different view points and didn't know who to side with and support in the novel. I'd be interested in reading more by this author.
Wow, I couldn’t put this one down. After reading the synopsis I knew I was going to be hooked. It was a page turner from the beginning & all of the characters sucked me in. The author keeps your attention & you can’t stop reading because you have to know how everything plays out. So many twists I didn’t see coming & I loved The author’s writing, this was my first book to read by her & she didn’t disappoint. I was captivated from page 1 all the way until the end. I didn’t want it to end, best thriller I’ve read in a while!
Thank you to netgalley, St. Martin's Press & The author for providing me a copy of this book for an honest review.
The thriller is just that, a thrill-a-minute one that I read in about two sittings. I just kept flipping pages starting with the wonderful diary entry from Nina that sets everything up. This one made me glad that I am not a widow with a huge fortune and cautious about every man who befriends me. Does he really love me, or does he just want my money?
Part of the book covers the summer romance of Tabitha, a worker at the local club, and Connor, a member of the club and from one of the wealthy families in town. The two have a fabulous summer, but of course, the truth comes out about the relationship and it is not pretty for Tabitha or her grandma who also works at the club. Connor disappears from her life for years, until one fateful day when he walks into the restaurant where she now works.
It was fun to read about how the rich live but having all that money does not always make you a happy fulfilled person! The first 75% of the book was enthralling, but the ending was a bit convoluted and maybe not that realistic . . .. not a perfect read, but still enjoyable and a good read!
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy of The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell.
Nina's first husband, Edward Levitt, was one of the wealthiest men in the world. People used to say she was a gold digger. Unfortunately, Edward passed away and left Nina extremely well off. Now she writes in her diary on July 4th that if an event of her untimely death, her second husband, Connor, is planning her death for obvious reasons. He's in love with someone else and wants her money.
Who does she think hes in love with? Can Nina prove he is seeing someone else? The author pulls you into this book on page one!. Another page turner!!
Holy roller coaster!!! Michele Campbell sure knows how to keep a reader enthralled from the very first page right through the very last!
There were a couple of jaw droppers and a very satisfying ending!
I really like how she wrote her characters to be relatable and real, flawed people. (Even the evil ones...)
Thanks so much to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for allowing me the privilege of reading this ARC! I will definitely be recommending it to my friends!
First, a huge thank you to NetGalley for sharing the book in exchange for an honest review. As for my thoughts on the book, I'm definitely in the minority here as I was not particularly impressed with the book. It does make for an easy beach read, so it's publication shall time nicely with the season. However, while I'm not one to shy away from the suspension of belief (it's one of the reasons for reading fiction, right?) the characters drove me bonkers and while I would've liked to know more about Nina, I found Tabitha to be more pathetic than empathetic and Connor to cookie-cutter shallow pretty boy. For me, the idea was there, but the pow factor I prefer in a psychological thriller.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much is such an easy read. “Tabby” had a summer fling with Connor in high school and was the one who got away. She still thought about their time together and the memories of their young love. Connors family was different; his grandmother very wealthy and Tabby’s barely made ends meet. Having different backgrounds caused them to lose touch and move on.
Fast forward years later and Connor comes into the dinner Tabby works at. They rekindle and it almost feels like fate. The only problem is that Connor is a married man and in the eye of the public. When Connors wife turns up dead, things take a turn and Tabby becomes a suspect.
I really like REALLY liked this book right from the beginning. Once things turned and I was halfway through it I almost felt a drag though. The twist was a little predictable but I didn’t completely guess what was next.
Overall, I enjoyed this read and recommend it to others! Thank you St Martins Press, NetGalley and the author for the ARC.
OMGosh, I am so sad this book ended, this was one of the best books I’ve ever read. Soooo many twists and turns, the definition of a psychological thriller book. You felt for the characters and you never knew who was speaking the truth. I just absolutely loved every part of it. Thank you Net Galley and St. Martins Press for an early copy.
