Really enjoyed the experience of reading this book. After It’s Always the Husband, I knew I was already “IN” on this one! I love the way Campbell writes, and I always enjoy her characters. A really great thriller all around.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much – Michele Campbell
Thirteen years ago, young Tabitha Girard chanced to meet Connor Ford – she, a ‘pool girl’ working at the local country club, and his family members of the same club. Being worlds apart economically, they had nothing in common, but young love was not to be denied, and they carried on a whirlwind summer romance until Connor’s grandmother caught them together and angrily sent Tabitha on her way.
Now, Connor is making headlines as the husband of the infamous Nina Levitt, so Tabitha is stunned to see him walk into the Baldwin Grill where she’s a waitress – even more so when the hostess seats him in her section. Shocked and seemingly elated to see her again, Connor asks Tabitha is she’ll meet after work to catch up on things. Turns out he’s in town investigating a potential business venture and is staying at the home of a friend – a night of talking reveals that being the husband of a famous woman isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and Tabitha and Connor start their relationship once more.
As Tabitha waits impatiently on the sidelines, Connor desperately searches for a way out of his marriage without forfeiting all of the money that he’s married into – until the fateful night after a 4th of July party finds Nina floating in her pool, a presumptive victim of suicide…leaving Connor free to be with Tabitha. But an evolving set of circumstances lead police to re-open the investigation…with the suspicion that Nina was murdered.
As Tabitha – now Tabitha Ford - tries to adjust to the jet setting life Connor leads, he is equally determined to remain above suspicion. But then Nina’s diary turns up – and its’ words leave Tabitha speechless – and turn her world upside down. Now she must discover if anyone in the household can be trusted – or if her whole world has become a well-orchestrated lie…
This is one of those books that hooks you right from page one and keeps you frantically turning pages just to find out if you’re right (or in my case wrong!) about the roles of each character you meet inside the cover. This one kept me up well into the night (yes, I know, many of my books do) because it was just that good!! Highly recommend!!
The characters in this book are a hot mess from beginning to end. It's a study in leaving your past boyfriends in the past and letting that temptation to rekindle something die a quick death. Every decision Tabitha and Connor make is disastrous, and frankly, they're both terrible people. It's hard to enjoy a book with such unlikable people as the focus, so I struggled with that. It's also hard to ignore the bad decision making and just enjoy the rocky ride through the story, because you know everything is going to turn out badly. It was a quick read, and I was sucked into seeing how it ended, but it felt more like morbid curiosity than actual enjoyment.
Another winner for Michele Campbell! She writes fast-paced thrillers that never fail to keep me on my toes! I had a hard time putting this one down, and ended up finishing in one sitting, which is rare these days. A wealthy character wrapped up in a murder scandal and add a cheating partner on top of that? PERFECTION.
I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.
Thank you to the author Michelle Campbell, the publisher St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for my candid review.
I read this book quickly as it was suspenseful. It begins with the WIfe writing a warning in her diary saying that if anything should happen to her =====they should look at her young husband. Then you quickly find out that the wife is found dead the same day.
They story bounces around a bit in past and current. It is a familiar story----- the husband is having an affair, the wife has a strict prenup that will give him nothing if he cheats, and the wife dies. The question is; did he do it? or is he really just a guy in the wrong place?
As I said, it is a somewhat familiar story with a cast of suspicious people, but I found that the coincidences and plot were somewhat stretched and unbelievable. It was a good read, but I will forget the book, the characters and the storyline as soon as I put it down.

The Wife Who Knew Too Much is one of those books that leaves me with mixed feelings.
Starting with Nina's diary entry, I was engrossed by this twisted and messy read.
The writing is fast paced, with a storyline full of intrigue and suspense.
Meeting Tabitha and seeing her relationship with Connor revealed left me wanting to both root for her and tell her not to trust him. Not that I know yet what's actually going on.
It's a gripping tale, with twists and turns to keep you reading late into the night. That said, I don't love it, as I don't like any of the characters, keeping me unsure of how I feel in the end.
I rather enjoyed this. It wasn't my absolute favorite and it wasn't the most original thing I've ever read. But it was interesting and kept my interest until the end.
Extremely enjoyable book that hooked me from the first page! I really enjoyed the twists and suspense that built throughout the book. I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
I love Michelle Campbell’s writing. Her storylines are always interesting and her characters are well-developed. Her newest novel won’t disappoint.
LOVED IT! This book was so suspenseful and kept me guessing. I love Michele Campbell's writing and recommend
The Wife Who Knew Too Much follows the story of Tabitha who when she was a teenager got her heart broken by Connor Ford. Years later she is a waitress in the same town she grew up in and completely unhappy - until Connor walks back into her life. One major problem - he’s married. When his wife dies unexpectedly all roads are starting to lead towards murder!
This book gives you all the psychological, domestic love triangle thriller vibes!! I really liked how the beginning started with a diary entry that immediately got you sucked into this drama! It was super fast paced, twisty, and a love story-ish.
The last 25% of the book I felt was a little rushed and kept repeating itself. The ending, to me, was not the juicy goodness the book initially gave me, but still satisfying.
Overall, if you enjoy a good domestic thriller this one you will enjoy. Don’t expect life changing reading here, but still a good curl on the couch and read type of book!
Another amazing page turner from Michele Campbell!! Her suspenseful tales are quick reads because you just have to get to the end to find out what happens!
A waitress who works at a shabby old diner that has seen better days ends up waiting on her old highschool crush. And of course he is as successful as ever, and conveniently he now has a interest in her? She is swept up on his lavish lifestyle and he seems like the perfect guy... or is he? A girl one of his house parties ends up dead in a swimming pool. Suicide? Murder? Accident? This felt a little cheesy at times, but it was a fun read.
I really loved this book in a new to me author. The characters and location really and to the story. I can't wait to read the next one. This book keeps you guessing until the end.
I hate to write a negative review, but this was not my favorite. I had to suspend a lot of disbelief. The characters didn't act consistently, even considering the ending, and Conner was a jerk.
Michele Campbell did it again. I really enjoyed The Wife Who Knew Too Much. Affairs are always messy, add in a death and suspicion and you have the ingredients to this thriller. I didn’t know which character was trustworthy and I liked the twist. There was a lot of romance in this book, but it didn’t take anything away from the plot. If anything, it added to the main characters. I would recommend giving this a read.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC.
This was an interesting one. I fully expected a "husband wants his wife's money, kills his wife for it and also has an affair" but it was a bit different.
Tabitha and Conner were teenage lovers. They lost touch but she always knew where Conner was. He married Nina and war all over the news with her. Tabitha and Conner meet once again and start an affair of their own. Then Nina dies. Even though it's ruled as a suicide, some suspect foul play.
This was a very readable thriller and not all so predictable as I thought it might be. I never really suspected Connor but there were a few doubts. I really liked Tabby. She does good at the end but I don't want to spill much for that that haven't read yet.
This was just ok. In fact, I struggled to get through it. Too much detail I think, and I didn't like either of the main characters very well. Not recommending for purchase.
My second book by author Michelle Campbell, I loved the first one, The Stranger On The Beach. I had great hopes while starting the book. But I didn’t like Tabby from the moment she agreed to have an affair with Connor, knowing he was married.
The story started well, barring the steaming of sheets, I was truly unsure if Tabby was naive or a master strategist. But as the book progressed, I felt the distinct lack of suspense. I wanted the book to be pumping excitement in my blood, not sappy lines of true love or the one that got away.
I liked that every page made me hate and doubt the characters even more. I wanted to know where Tabby would end up, jail or with millions.
The parts where the author added the twists were great, the rest was romance.
A good read
I liked the idea of this book, I felt like the plot and setting were great. But the characters drove me crazy! I felt like the story could’ve been good if it weren’t for the characters. This is definitely a fast paced thriller. It wasn’t for me, but it’s worth checking out!
