This story about three friends who first meet at the age of five captivated me. Watching the characters grow up and seeing how their relationships and the people around them changed was fascinating. In particular, there was a fantastic depiction of a mother who was a very nasty, but entertaining, character indeed!
I felt invested in the characters, cared about them, and wanted to keep reading to see what would happen to them next.
I would recommend this book wholeheartedly, especially to those who like reading about friendship and extended families. If you enjoyed Grown Ups by Marian Keyes, you may also like this.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a free advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a lovely story told in an emotionally charged but humourous way.
I've always liked Ruth Jones way with words, so was a little concerned when there seemed to be little comedic content in this coming of age story. However the way Ruth Jones tells the story of these three friends with a fair bit of gravitas, but with a little humour creates a good balance that draws you in to the lives of the people in Coed Celyn (it's Welsh for Holly Wood)
This book kept me turning the pages and I became involved in the lives of three friends Cathrin, Judith and Lana. I loved reading about the ups and downs of their friendship and it was relevant to me as I am a similar age. The writing is lovely and light and while the book has its serious moments, it is always an entertaining read. There were funny moments as well. It’s very skilfully written. It made me think of my long term friendships and how important they are. More than anything, this is a book to get lost in, in these difficult times, and it was just what I needed! Thank you very much for the advance copy. I will certainly be recommending it to friends when it is published.
#UsThree follows the friendship of best friends Lana, Judith and Catrin over the years.
Alternating chapters tell the story from each of the characters view points, and with each chapter you grow invested in all of them. Its a story of friendship, betrayal, love and will make you thankful for the friendships you have.
Heres the description to get you interested...
After the trip of a lifetime in Greece, the three girls are closer than ever. But an unexpected turn of events shakes the foundation of their friendship to its core, leaving their future in doubt – there’s simply too much to forgive, let alone forget.
Ruth Jones is a beautiful writer and I was so pleased to get an early copy via @netgalley. I heard Ruth speak at an @edbookfest event two years ago about her debut Never Greener and she said she was excited about the next book she was working on. So I've been patiently waiting for it ever since.. ☺️
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
Ruth Jones has written the story of 3 women who have been friends since childhood. The story spans 45 years and details the ups and down of friendship and relationships through this time. The book made me laugh and made me cry. I enjoyed this book it was a good read.
I enjoyed this book but not as much as I thought I would. I was expecting a. light hearted read which it wasn’t. I did find a part of it really emotional towards the end, I read it through tears. All in all, well written but not what I was expecting. Don’t think I would recommend it to anyone, sorry
This was my first time reading a book by Ruth Jones and I was very intrigued to see what her style of writing would be. I have to say I expected the book to contain more humour but nevertheless I did enjoy the story. It was a good book but not probably something I would remember later on.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC
What a lovely book, this is the first I've read of Ruth Jones, but I was delighted to get a copy having loved her in Stella & Gavin & Stacey.
Loved everything about this book, the characters of the 3 main girls are so well written it felt like I knew them and I enjoyed all the ups and downs in their lives even if it broke my heart.
I enjoyed all the Welsh expressions and hearing about events from each character's point of view.
I couldn't wait to see how it ended, but now I'm so sad it's finished.
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the advance digital copy in return for my review.
I wasn’t sure how this book was going g to be as I love the author as an actor so wondered how she would be as an author and I shouldn’t have worried! I adored this book!! The characters are so relatable and the storyline has twists and turns and happy parts, sad parts and is just a lovely book to read. I enjoyed every chapter and enjoyed the different points of view. I loved hearing the welsh phrases and descriptions of Wales I wish I could read this book for the first time again
I enjoyed reading this and really hearing Ruth Jones' voice in the writing! I enjoyed her first novel more, but this is a lovely easy read and kept me hooked all the way through.
I struggled with this, being from Ruth Jones I think I expected far more humour than there was. Saying that it was a good story and well written.
Not having read the first book by Ruth Jones I thought it was remiss of me not to give this one a try and I was not sorry I did. It is not my usually genre but it had me hooked from the beginning. The three main characters are all believable and I'm sure most readers can relate to the ups and downs the characters face as they go from innnocent primary school children swearing an oath on a chocolate bar wrapper to adults with families, careers and baggage! I found myself feeling very much part of the characters lives and feeling a range of emotions alongside them. There were many twists and turns as there are in all our lives and this made it a very easy and comforting read.
I thoroughly recommend this book and look forward to the next one.
With thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this great book.
Excited to read this offering from Ruth Jones and it did not disappoint! Amazingly written that genuinely reflects friendships and what they ultimately mean
Having just binge watched Gavin and Stacey and seeing that Ruth Jones co-wrote the TV series with James Corden I was thrilled to find out that she is a best-selling author as well.
‘The Three of Us’ wasn’t quite what I was expecting from Ms Jones – it is a much cosier and less edgier read than I expected, but the story certainly has its moments and I got to really enjoy dipping into it the more I engaged with the characters. It definitely grew on me.
Many thanks to Random House UK, to Ruth Jones and to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. I’m sure it is going to be another massive hit for Ms Jones.
Wonderful, feel good, book but I would not expect anything else from Ruth Jones. Three girls with completely different views and aspirations. Follow the friends from Cardiff over 45 years with their trials, tribulations, sad and happy times.
Was drawn to this book as I love Ruth Jones and must have missed that she’d become an author too. I devoured it over 24 hours, loved everything about it, the characters, the settings, the comedy and even the sadness. I’ve now bought her first book to read. 5 stars from me
This is a new genre for me and I really enjoyed it.
Ruth Jones does a really good job of creating real life characters and weaving them into a really good story.
Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed this book. Ruth is a good storyteller and above all she brings her characters to life!
Couldn't get Bryn from G&S out of my head when i first met Huw in the book.
I think all women my age 40+ can relate to a friendship like the one in this book.
Definately one i will be recommending to friends.
Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. I really enjoyed this, moreso than 'Never Greener' I think as I found the characters far more likeable, and I thought Ruth Jones' writing was easy to read and enjoyable, setting the scene and describing the characters well.
This started out for me as a fun read but the more the story progressed the more I became engrossed in the lives of Lana, Judith and Catlin. I particularly enjoyed the side story surrounding Judith's mother, Patricia, and her antics. It is well written with some weepy moments along the way.
