This was a fun book. I loved visiting all the different European countries and the men the MC met while she was there. The food descriptions were delightful and I really fell in love with Jason. He seemed like such a good guy but made to be the bad guy because of his position next to Chelsea.
I wanted a bit more resolve with Chelsea and the passing of her mother. It definitely seemed to have affected her life, but aside from adopting some quirks and working for a company that helps fight cancer (and her boss/mentor’s diagnosis), I would imagine there would be more emotion involved?
I wasn’t a fan of how slowly the end resolved either. I know That her and Jason would get together, but her hesitancy with him especially as a coworker kind of bugged me. Also, her indecision to stay at the company despite all the hard work and effort she put into it. Kinda didn’t make sense.
Overall, a good book but wish there was more head-on discussion of the loss/grief and re-finding herself.
It starts off slow and kind of dense, but once the action begins, it's hard to resist the story as it drives forward. It reads as a true epic, one that makes you feel the world really has been reshaped as you read it. Would recommend.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I thought it was a cute read. It definitely has all the emotions and pulls at your heartstrings. The story was a little predicable and there were certain moments with the rance that made me cringe a little but over all it was a fun read.
Superb character development, elegant world building, and compelling plotting. Paris is always a good idea, definitely will appeal to those who watched Emily in Paris.
Tw family loss, cancer, self harm
This was sorta cute. Paris Is Always A Good Idea is a travel romance. This is definitely a romantic local type of romance that will appeal to those that love those stereotypical romantic destinations.
While I loved the idea of this book, the execution was not to my taste. I found the main characters to be extremely immature and the tone of the writing to be really cheesy. I know rom-coms are supposed to be like modern day fairy tales, but this didn't even remotely feel realistic.
What a great read as we follow Chelsea Martin attempt to regain her happiness.
Realizing the last time she had unending happiness was when she traveled abroad and met so many fabulous new friends. She decides to retrace her steps and possibly reconnect with a few of those fabulous friends in Ireland, Italy, and France, but of course, even the best laid plans can unexpectedly go completely sideways and Chelsea comes to realize her happiness was in the most unlikely of places.
Time well spent reading this one.
This book was a great idea! Fans of The Hating Game will adore this light-hearted romance. Travel along with Chelsea as she revisits the times that she felt loved and was truly happy, as she tries to discover that feeling again. I loved the characters in this story and will definitely be adding it to my physical bookshelf. A must-read that I guarantee you'll enjoy!
I really enjoyed this one and the heroine's journey really resonated with me - holding on to who you used to be and chasing after her via a trip abroad. I was also pleasantly surprised that it a more solid romantic storyline than most women's fiction I've read. It's one of the few books I would recommend to readers of both genres.
The library won't buy this because it is to old but I will probably buy it for my personal home library! It is so cute and funny and the voice is so engaging. The writing is full of romcom sassiness and I just kept reading. This is a must for romcom fans.
I was drawn to this book immediately from the title and cover!! It’s perfection!! And I was happily surprised with how much I enjoyed this book!! I liked the self discovery aspect and all the traveling!! I will say that this had some serious issues that I wasn’t expecting and it pulled at my heart strings! My heart reached out so much to Chelsea!!! I loved all the tropes in this and it was really nice seeing Jason and Chelsea overcome everything and fall in love!! I loved their banter and their chemistry was so good!! Highly recommend!
Cute and light hearted! Love the cover and loved the traveling, especially since most of us aren't traveling right now.
This wasn't my favorite but the traveling aspect made it a little better. It was the romance bits that were a little too unbelievable for me. The run-ins with the past loves, it was just too much. Although I will say that I enjoy a good enemies to lovers trope. But even this one was a little over-the-top as well. Overall not that great and would not really recommend.
This was such a cute and light hearted romantic comedy. I loved the characters, loved all of the various settings, and loved the roller coaster of emotions that I felt. This was such a perfectly well rounded book and I really really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more from McKinlay! Thank you netgalley for sending this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Jenn McKinlay’s new book, PARIS IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA, is a fun romp of a book. There’s not much behind it that draws a reader in except for the setting and the comical characters, but I think it’s a great book if you’re in the mood for something light.
If you’re a person who enjoys reading about a lot of traveling, then I think you’re going to enjoy Chelsea’s story. There are a lot of funny and sweet moments in this book, but the romance didn’t really take off for me. Chelsea has the tendency to be immature and so I wasn’t always on board with a lot of her decisions made in this book. For a twenty-nine year old, she seemed kind of inexperienced and immature. I think this is the case because of the tone that the author was going for. Light and funny, it made the more important decisions feel a bit flat. I think that might be the reason why Chelsea’s character might fall flat with some readers.
So while there are some good and bad things about this book, I think readers who just want something light might find this book enjoyable, especially if you’re interest is the travel rather than character development or plot.
Although I had some trouble connecting with the characters and the voice at the start of this book, the plot was a fun, escapist rom-com with relatable themes, and it ended up being a fun, quick read!
A little predictable, but in a good way. Chelsea Martin is startled when her father announces he is going to remarry. Chelsea's mother had died several years ago and Chelsea was still grieving. One magical year, seven years ago, she had gone to Europe and fallen in love - in Ireland, in Paris, and in Italy. She decided it is time to go back and try to reconnect with that girl she used to be and see tp see if there are any sparks left between herself and any of the men she had fallen in love with that year.
Chelsea is on a journey of self discovery after losing her mother to cancer and finding out her father is remarrying. She travels through Ireland, France, and Italy and reconnects with old flames in hopes of rediscovering who she was before the loss of her mother and work consumed her life. This story is sweet and easy to read, despite the themes of loss, which were dealt with sensitively and appropriately. There were laugh out loud moments and heart wrenching moments, and overall this was a story that will stick with me for a while.
This is the first book I’ve ever read by Jenn McKinlay and I will definitely read her again! The book starts off with that moment where you hate the main character because she’s the absolute worst person, but as you go along you just need to keep finding out how her story will continue. She is like anyone who has suffered loss and just forgot how to live. As you read through the book, you’re swept up in her story of love, loss and finding yourself after your grief. I laughed with Chelsea, cried with Chelsea, I was Chelsea.
