♡ Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.
Delighted to feature this title in the big annual Holiday Gift Books Guide (in print in the weekend edition Books section on November 28, 2020) in The Globe and Mail, Canada’s national newspaper, in the giftee archetype For the Wellness Guru. (full feature at link)
This book had really great ideas for making your home living space a more functional to maximize your health. There is so many safety and accessibility ideas for the home, that I never thought of. Would make a great housewarming gift.
Wellness by Design is a beautiful book to help the reader adjust their current living space to maximize health. Admittedly, this concept sounds a bit woo-woo initially, but the author provides valuable tips to optimize your home in 5 areas: accessibility, safety, functionality, decor, and connections. There are design tips for every possible room you can think of and includes gorgeous photos. At times some of the design tips are a bit out of touch for the average person and are likely directed for wealthy individuals, but I still was able to apply many tips to my own apartment. I really enjoyed the chapter on Smart Living as I currently live in an apartment with many smart home features. The author provides pros and cons for all of the recommendations so you can make more informed decisions on how you implement some of the tips, which I found helpful. Overall I think this would be an interesting conversation piece on a coffee table that you and guests may enjoy looking through!
Thanks to NetGalley, Tiller Press, and the author Jamie Gold for the ARC of Wellness by Design. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed reading this book and learning some wellness tips. It has a lot of informations and tips for each room of the house. Tips for safety and how to make your home feels better and more welcoming. Great book! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
Really enjoyed this book. I have been working on both remodeling my house and improving my wellness, and this book had some great ideas on how to combine the two. One of my doctors has recommended I get a water filtration system, and this book has some good tips on that, though I would have loved some more detail on how to choose one. I really liked the pictures of some of the design ideas in this book and would have loved to have seen more of them. I am something of a wellness-obsessed person, so this may be a more appropriate introduction to someone who has not yet thought of things like HEPA filters and grounding outlets. But there were lots of great new-to-me ideas here too such as the idea of zoning your kitchen. This is a great informational read with a wealth of information - would have loved a few more pictures with aesthetic design ideas to round it out.
Thanks to NetGalley, Tiller Press and the author for the advance copy of this helpful book.
I thought this book had really great ideas for making your home functional and comfortable . There were a lot of references made to adding or changing things that likely would only be done by someone with an unlimited budget so a bit unrealistic for the average person. Overall I would recommend this book. It is an easy read with good tips.
I don’t believe I’ve ever highlighted a book quite so much. Wellness by Design is PACKED with commonsense, current, and relevant recommendations for a better living experience. I received this book as a pre-pub from Netgalley. I am going to purchase a hard copy as soon as it is available to thumb through as an ongoing resource. Perfect gift for young people in their first home all the way to retirees, who want to revitalize their abode.
This is a well illustrated book that aims to give you tools to design your home to provide good health in terms of safety, chemicals, etc. It goes room by room with suggestions and features a lot of lovely photos. It is most definitely designed more for wealthy people who are building their own homes or doing major remodeling, rather than just giving steps for anybody to make their home greener and healthier. There were a few areas where I was surprised by things not included. For instance, with the focus on safety in other areas it doesn't mention in the nursery section that furniture like bookcases and dressers should be bolted to the wall (small children are tragically killed every year from accidents where they try to climb them and are crushed, especially with lighter furniture) and that it recommends buying vintage furniture to save money in the nursery but doesn't mention that it's not generally safe to use a vintage crib or that many vintage children's toys, dishes and even books contain dangerous levels of lead. Still, it's a helpful and inspiring book in general.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
The whole kitchen chapter was helpful for me! It explained how to declutter and reorient your kitchen. I loved the advice and help that I didn’t realize I needed! But that was my favorite chapter. They also talked about each room and outside sections, so if there’s something in your house you want to fix, this book has what you need.
