Woah. This book was so thrilling; I could not put it down. Throughout the book, I kept switching in my mind who I thought was the guilty party. There were lots of twists and turns, I could have imagined any one of them the culprit!
The characters were so well described. I could picture them in my mind.
This is definitely a book I will recommend to others!
Three Single Wives revolves around a group of women who discuss what they would do if they were cheated on, and after a few too many glasses of wine stumble across the topic of murder. Coincidentally one of their husband's is found murdered the following morning--stabbed through the heart no less! All of the women involved are suspects, and each have a motive for murder.
I loved this book! I'm a big fan of Gina's and was not disappointed. Absolutely could not put TSW down and binged the entire book in an evening. Definitely worth reading!
You never quite know what might be discussed in book club, but murder?? This book had me thinking every single person was guilty at one point or another. Everyone had a motive, but who did it?? With flawed characters that you can’t help but sympathize with and interspersed with the court room drama, this book drew me in until it’s satisfying conclusion. “Never underestimate book club.”
Three Single Wives introduces us to a group of woman who discussed murder at their book club, plot twist one of their husbands end up dead.
Eliza Tate: publicist who decides to start her own company, she borrows $60,000 from her in laws and supports her husband Roman.
Ann Wilkes: mother of four small children is married to Mark a detective who she spies on because she suspects he’s cheating. Hires Penny to babysit and is best friends with Eliza.
Penny Sands: Just moves to Hollywood from a small Midwest town, loves to steal, dreams of being an actress, taking lessons to be an actress, has her own secrets.
Marguerite Hill: A NYT bestselling author wrote a book on being a self help and is a feminist extremely wealthy a bit full of herself.
When all four woman discuss with each other about what they would do if they find their partners cheating, each woman who had drank a bit of wine laugh it off as bookclub talk and head home, when they wake up and discover one of their husbands are dead stabbed through the heart, and their all suspects, ,you see each woman had a reason to want this man dead. The book alternates chapters with a trial transcript and the three woman’s point of view. Soon you see each woman had a secret and they all start coming out and each one more shocking! Loved this book four stars!
The lives of three friends are forever changed after the murder of someone close to them. Is one of them responsible for the crime? Eliza, Anne, and Penny are all hiding secrets about the victim that make them prime suspects. And when one of them goes on trial for murder, the secrets each has so closely guarded threaten to unravel their carefully constructed lives.
Set in Los Angeles, Three Single Wives features an unforgettable cast of friends, spouses, and lovers--all dreamers, survivors, go-getters, and opportunists in their own way--whose choices and behaviors have profound impact on the future of them all. Of particular note is LaManna's focus on the strong bonds of female friendship in the characters of Eliza, Anne, and Penny, who support each other despite the personal cost of secrets laid bare.
The character-centered plot of intertwined relationships and numerous, credible suspects makes Three Single Wives a fast-paced, consuming, suspenseful read and satisfying page turner.
Three Single Wives was an entertaining, fast read. You were never quite sure was going on and who the finger should really have been aimed at after it's found that one of their husbands has been murdered. Each woman might have wanted him dead, for one reason or another. As the book moves forward, these reasons become more and more obvious.
I suspected who the real killer was about halfway through the book and I found I was right as I neared the end. It was a great ending to a good book. It was not incredibly obvious throughout, which I liked, but it did make sense when all answers were finally revealed.
I recommend this book if you want a quick entertaining read. Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for the advanced readers copy. All opinions are my own.
This mystery is written in a different format than your typical book. (Though it is similar to Pretty Guilty Women by the same author.) The story surrounds the love lives/marriages of three women who are each having personal issues in their relationships. The crime doesn't take place until near the end of the book. The story starts right before the crime, and then goes back to months prior (with current court transcripts thrown in in between chapters eluding to motives of each.) We learn early on who the victim is (through those transcripts,) but each woman, we learn as the story progresses, has a motive, along with a few other characters. It's a pretty subdued read. Not much in the way of laughter or happiness. It's not really dark, though there are some darker elements. Heavier topics mentioned. These women are smart, and strong, yet they each have vulnerabilities, and they each hold secrets. So many secrets. There are a few surprises tossed in. The plot starts out a little slow and gets moving quicker as you get further into the book. It's written from a third person narrative. This book is a little more grittier than most of the other books by this author. It's not as 'clean' as her usual work. The subject matter, the language, the sexual content (though minimal,) is all more 'real.' Nothing is sugar coated.
*I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley.
Wow...this book was hard to put down. Three women with motive to commit murder, but who is the guilty party. This is a story that has you guessing throughout...first, who is the murder victim and then who committed the crime. Just as one of the characters was putting the pieces together, and just before the answer was revealed, is when I finally figured out who did it.
This suspenseful story was well worth the time I spent reading it...which was done in one day.
Three Single Wives is an intriguing thriller that is told from the alternating perspectives of three women and with brief excerpts of police transcripts. The secrets are well hidden and slowly unravel as each secret is exposed. Three Single Wives is a fast-paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very shocking end. Full of glamour and intrigue, it’s an addictive story you won’t want to miss.
Have you ever thought about killing your spouse? No? That's not normal? Get four women together who are sick of being treated as ignorant, expendable and submissive, and the topic may some up. These woman come from very different backgrounds, only to come together and find out they are all dealing with the same problem, Roman Tate.
There was so much to this book, and it came together so well. I flew through it, because there was one particular aspect I could not figure out and I had to know what it was! A great thriller and whodunit mystery, where you won't know who the good guys are and the bad, and find yourself changing your mind about each character as the story progresses. If you are a fan of Leanne Moriarty and Shari Lapena, then this book needs to be on your bookshelf.
Three Single Wives is a compulsively readable thriller about three women, a book club, and a murder. Anne, Eliza, and Penny are friends, who, during one wine-fueled book club meeting, have a hypothetical discussion on how they would get rid of a cheating husband. Sometime later, one of the women's husbands is found dead, and all three women had a motive to kill him.
Three Single Wives is a very entertaining and absorbing read. I didn't have the slightest idea who the killer was. The story kept me guessing until the end. I highly recommend this book to all domestic suspense readers.
I did not see THAT coming, or THAT or THAT! As a matter a fact I didn’t think this book would be this good. First of all, I thought that this book was about 3 women and a book club, but its more than that. The book club was actually created by coincidence, but this was such a GREAT COINCIDENCE!
Who killed who the husband!!!
I might say too much and give it away, but these women, Eliza, Anne and Penny, have so many secrets, lets sum it up a little without giving too much away, I hope lol. Eliza is a very successful publicist with an acting teacher as a husband, Anne is a stay at home mom and her cop husband Mark, they have 4 kids and you can imagine how hard these times were for her being a mother of 4 children, and then there is Penny, the new girl, she just got to LA from Iowa, and she is ready to take over the world, but she’s also very heavily involved in this book, its WILD, every character has a secret and is lying about something, juicy!!
This domestic suspenseful book was worth the read, there was so much stuff going on, I couldn’t put the book down, it was drama on every page. Thanks, Netgalley and Sourcebooks for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
Gina LaManna has self-published a lot of humorous and paranormal mysteries and cozies. Three Single Wives is her second industry published novel, after last year’s spectacular book release, Pretty Guilty Women. While Pretty Guilty Women showcased LaManna’s excellent skills at character development and an insider’s look into female friendships, Three Single Wives takes a dive into the flawed nature of humans and looks at how murky morals can become.
Although we know there’s been a murder, the reader isn’t told who it is until later in the book. This comes out in the trial transcript that is incorporated into the novel and helps to not only move the novel along, but also adds some tension because you kind of have an idea of what is going to happen next and this makes you want to read faster so you can see what really happens next. With the three women as suspects, we also end up getting two more as the book progresses. This helped to add more layers to the novel and was a way for LaManna to give us misdirection and lots of red herrings.
You may end up disliking all of the women or you may see yourself in one or all of them. I enjoyed seeing the different stages in a life portrayed by these women and felt a bit of sympathy for all of them, while at the same time wanting to shake them and have them make some better decisions. To me this is the sign of a great book, when you can see yourself in the characters, but become angry with them at the same time.
I did feel the ending was a bit rushed, which often happens in suspense and thrillers. I did not figure out who the killer was, which always pleases me. But I did have a couple of questions at the end and wondered if I missed something, or if it was not explained well or at all. This didn’t stop me from enjoying the book though.
Another fantastic read, and if you enjoy domestic suspense, you should definitely check out Three Single Wives and Pretty Guilty Women!
Absolutely wonderful edge of your seat thriller. I had no clue who the culprit was and LaManna kept me turning the pages right to the end with the unexpected ending. Easy to follow, a fabulous thriller.
Okay- who is dead? And who murdered him? This is a tawdry tale told in the third person by three women- Eliza, Anne, and Penny- and with snippets of a trial transcript. Eliza, a publicist, is married to Roman, who cheats on her with (among others), Penny, a young woman fresh to Hollywood. Anne, mom of 4 and Eliza's friend since college, is married to Mark, who she is concerned is cheating on her as well. These three women all keep secrets from each other and, really, themselves. Each of them has a motive for murdering the victim (no spoilers from me- you should find out the way I did, halfway through). Throw in Marguerite, an author Eliza is promoting, and you've got a brew. I found each of them sympathetic in their way (although, to be honest, not so much Penny and forget about Marguerite, whose personal history is apparently relevant but never explained). This moves back and forth in time (and it gets a little muddled on the time line for the book club) and it does keep you guessing. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A page turning entertaining read.
Book Review: Three Single Wives
5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
WOW I did NOT see that ending coming!!!!!!! I caught the suspension and creepiness but dismissed it with other "who done it" thoughts. This story was an amazing thriller. The twists and turns of this story make you think you know 3 or 4 times who did it but them BOOM you knew nothing!!!!!!! Lol Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for ny honest review.
Anne, Eliza, and Penny belong to a book club. During a meeting, the topic comes up of murder. When the girls tell their take on how to murder a cheating spouse, little do they know truth is stranger than fiction! One of their husbands is found murdered! The book is told by all 3 women's point of views and from courtroom transcripts. The plot keeps you guessing until the very end and is well played out. I really enjoyed how the story was told. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
Thanks to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Landmark publishers for this free ARC.
Well that ending sure got me! I did liked the style of going back and forth from the day of the trial to months leading up to the murder and then months after. Dragged in some spots but otherwise a great mystery.
Three Single Wives was a read in an afternoon book for me. A twisty psychological thriller/whodunnit that kept me turning pages until the end.
Plenty of people wants Roman dead.. but who killed him? 3 women discuss killing their husbands in a boozy bookclub one night. The next day Roman as dead. That is how it begins and then we go back and learn the story of each of the women and their lives. The courtroom transcripts add to the story. Any of them couldn’t have been the killer, and I did no guess it in the end.
Thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read.
The story revolves about 3 women who are in a bookclub together and then one husband is killed. Through flashbacks, police interviews and different POV's you discover which husband is the victim and then the big question is: Whodunnit?!! The women are all so different with their own motive for murder. And the victim was absolutely not blameless.
Gina LaManna weaves an intricate tale and I totally enjoyed finding out who the killer is. Normally I am not into mystery/thrillers, but for Gina I would make an exception again and again!
