This book was just not for me. It was frivolous and the twist in the plot in the middle didn't make any sense. I usually love Jennifer Weiner, but this one was a big miss.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I chose this one as a BOTM add on a few months back but I wish I hadn’t waited so long to read it! I instantly fell in love the characters, particularly Daphne, who is complex in so many ways. I could easily identify with her which made me love her even more. I enjoyed the way we were able to explore her relationships with Drue, her family and Nick and herself . They each were in unique and completely relatable. I love a book that is both empowering, a love story and a “who done it”. This book was all 3!

Daphne has always been a big girl and it has consumed her thoughts for her whole life. When she turns an embarrassing situation into online fame, she quickly gets sponsors and followers on social media. One even offers her the most beautiful, flattering clothing she has even seen. She knows this could be big for her! When she is invited to her old friends wedding she cannot be more excited to have the opportunity to expand her following. She even meets a great guy and things get steamy!
She wakes up the next day to find out that someone has been murdered and both she and the “great guy” are suspects. As Daphne works to solve the mystery , she begins to unravel a lifetime of secrets of those close to her. Will the secrets be the end of Daphne’s instafamous lifestyle or the end of Daphne?

The great thing about a Jennifer Weiner book is that I know it is going to be well written, engaging, and fun to read. Big Summer is exactly that, focusing on the story of Daphne, the changes in her life, & how she deals with a major friendship in her life. I loved Daphne’s moxie & her fully realized portrayal made her jump off of the page. This is a great book, the perfect summer read. I loved it!

It’s been a while since I’ve read a Jennifer Weiner book, so I welcomed the opportunity to read Big Summer. It’s a story about friendships, forgiveness and feelings. Throw in a little romance & a mystery and you’re set. It started out a bit slow, but picked up soon after. I enjoyed the storyline and thought that it was well-written. Thank you Atria and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Another great read from Jennifer Weiner. I grabbed this at a time I needed an escape, and her story gave me a much needed distraction, as well as something to wonder about. Lots of unexpected plot turns, and the great character development Weiner is known for. Five stars.

This book was a conundrum for me. I read it quickly and it wasn't necessarily "bad" per se.. I just felt like it was two different books, with one being *much* more interesting than the other.

The first half was pretty captivating, (I loved Mrs. Everything and it felt pretty comparable to that) and I dove right in quickly. As it got into the second half and became a sort of who dunnit however, it started to feel a little cheesy and fell flat for me. I read another review that said within that genre switch-up they were hoping for Liane Moriarty and got scooby-doo, and I think that sums it up perfectly.

I wish I could have read the first half of the book, completed. It seems Weiner is at her best when she is tackling women's issues and our relationships with each other. But as is... I was just underwhelmed. I'm absolutely not writing her off yet, I'll still check out her next offering. Just hoping she hones her suspense skills or gets back to that more literary fiction feel.

This book surprised me SO much. I recommend that you go in without reading a lot about this one as part of the joy of it (for me) was discovering the story as I read. It was better for me to go in with little expectation ... it made the book full of surprises for me. The narrative focuses on a few themes that resonate well with me - female friendship, body image, expectation. And I was so pleasantly surprised at how well they were covered in this novel as they are all tricky and easy to get wrong. Love that this is a great read but also full of substance. Very thoughtful and a wonderful read altogether!.

Big Summer pulled me in immediately. Cape Cod, a wedding, a murder-- it was the perfect quarantine read! It will be a great beach read as well! Daphne was an Instagram influencer and posted fashion for plus sized women. She was asked to be the maid of honor for an estranged childhood friend and everything was going fine until someone is murdered. Daphne tries to solve the mystery - who can she trust?

I love Jennifer Weiner's books, and this one was no exception! I love her characters and the depth that they all have, both the main characters and the secondary characters. I could see this one being turned into a movie.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish and can't wait to read more by this author. This book gave me all the feels. This book was a great emotional read that was well written and easy to connect with the characters. I can see this book being a huge hit for book club lovers.

There were some things that worked and some things that didn’t. It felt like I was reading two different books but only getting half of the story from each novel. I wish that the focus had been on body positivity period without the added mystery.

This is my fault. I need to realize that while I used to enjoy women's fiction, at this point in my life I am over it and prefer darker stories. That being said, I did love Weiner's first book, GOOD IN BED, SO much. She is a wonderful writer who really gets to the heart of women's thinking. However, these types of books are just not my style anymore so I don't enjoy them and cannot recommend them personally.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Atria Books for my copy of Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner in exchange for an honest review. It published May 5, 2020.
I have to start off saying that I regret not reading this sooner! I started yesterday morning, and it was absolutely unputdownable. I was invested, and when the *thing* happened, I had no clue that was coming, boy was I surprised! I thought this was starting to become just kind of NYC people book living their NYC lives and their NYC problems, (can you tell that I'm burned out on those types of books?).
I have to admit, though, that I really enjoy books with Instagram influencers, they seem elusive and mystical, and I appreciate books that break it down a bit, and show that it isn't as glamorous as it seems. Plus I like all the IG jargon.
I also enjoyed the body positive message in this book, along with the descriptions of fashion. That was a fun addition.
I do want to give a caveat that there is some language and a sex scene that is easily skippable.

Loved this book! I will say I didn't read too much into the description before picking this up, but I went into it anticipating it would be light and breezy "chick lit" (I hate that phrase please help me find a new one) about an aspiring fat influencer and her friendships and relationships, but about halfway through it turned into a page-turning mystery/thriller! I also really loved the cast of characters- the size, racial, and ethnic diversity surprised me in a book where the main two characters are white women.

Thanks to NetGalley & Atria Books for an advanced copy of this novel!

I don't think that there has ever been a Jennifer Weiner book I have not loved. BIG SUMMER is the best type of beach read, but it is also the best kind of "get you out of your head" read. The humor, the heart, and a look into friendship all made this an amazingly great read.

This book just wasn't for me. While I appreciated the female leads voice and plight I didn't connect with her thus making it really hard to connect with the story. As it unfolds and becomes more of a mystery than a romance/women's fiction book I just found myself disinterested.

Another excellent light-hearted Jennifer Weiner read but does delve into some hot topics right now like body image and social media. Highly enjoyed!
