Beth White has done a great job with all the historical aspects of “The Daughtery House” series. This was a confusing and somewhat dangerous time period in our country’s history. Viewing it from the viewpoint of the Daughtery sisters has helped me understand the complexity of dealing with all the different issues during that time. I loved the character of Aurora. She’s confident, brave, caring, and very much the “take-charge” sister. I also loved the fact that she talks so much, and is attracted to a quiet, good guy like Zane.
This story has its humorous moments, but there’s also quite a bit of action and a look at some serious issues that impacted the country at that time. The Daughtery sisters never failed to take a stand for right, and their faith is clear and constant in every situation. This story is easily read in its own, but if you like Christian historical fiction, you’ll enjoy this whole series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
This is book three in the Daughtry House series. I feel it is somewhat of a stand alone book, however you do miss some history of the Daughtry sisters and some of the criminals, but you will not be lost.
This book focus' on the youngest Daughtry sister, Aurora, she is a beautiful, talkative, spontaneous girl who is not afraid to speak her mind. US Marshal Zane Sager is not real sure what to think of her and her ways. I loved the sparks between Zane and Aurora. The entire Daughtry family have a fun, loving and strong relationship.
I was given a complementary copy of this book for my honest review.
I have really enjoyed this series and I couldn’t wait to get to Aurora’s story. She is a fiery young woman who likes to talk. I love her boldness and the way she went after Zane. I mean, I probably wouldn’t have acted that way but way to go Aurora.
Zane is a wonderfully, flawed hero who doubts that any woman could love him, but especially someone like Aurora.
The faith of the characters is strong through this book as well, which is something I always appreciate.
This is a great conclusion to this engaging series.
A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
This novel penned by Beth White will capture your attention from it's beautiful cover art...and will not let go until the final chapter. A lovely story...heartfelt and real. You will not be disappointed. Five Stars.
I’ve been head over heels about this series ❤
I love the spirit of the Daughtery sisters, their determination and resilience. Combined with that Beth White’s impeccable research, the story comes to life!
I’ve been eagerly anticipating Pete’s story. And I did not imagine a hero like Zeke for her. He was perfect!
Aurora is determined to not be left behind, even as her sisters have both found love and are building their own families. She is certain that fixing whatever mess have been keeping her family awake at night is the perfect solution to prove her worth and loyalty. Though the new Marshall is not excited about letting her help, Aurora will just show him true Daughtery fire and steadfastness.
In “A Reckless Love” by Beth White, when federal deputy marshal Zane Sager meets his match in the feisty, vivacious Aurora Daughtry, whom he once admired from afar, his carefully erected defenses begin to crumble. Theirs is an opposite-attract romance in a unique historical setting; with its perspective on the restoration period after the Civil War, with even a touch of Western flair in a southern setting. The charming relationship blossoming between attractive Aurora, feisty, bubbling and effervescent, with her own special brand of buoyant humor, contrasts sharply with Zane’s quiet, straightforward strength. It is interesting to see how the characters work together to unravel the baffling threads of mystery, as they selflessly serve their community with justice, fairness and honesty. This book features a unique cast of characters with depth, passion, grit and grace, as they grapple with a gripping plot with unexpected twists and turns. Beth White skillfully combines her carefully researched authenticity with intriguing history and inspiring romance, coupled with a touch of mystery and suspense thrown in for good measure. This is a highly recommended historical romance for readers of post-Civil War stories.
A unique opposites attract story. This was a wonderful story. Though the last in the series, it doesn't feel like you've missed out on much.
I loved the way the main characters complimented each other, though different in their very own rights they both worked well together. Aurora is different, strong and independent. I loved her characters strength and tenacity. Zane is also delightful, I loved the growth process he went through throughout the book.
This beautiful community working together to build each other up post the civil war is something beautiful and definitely not to be missed
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed are solely mine.
I really enjoyed reading bout Aurora and how she is good at getting done what needs to be done even when the circumstances are not the best. She has done the best for her family getting them settled and ready to move to the next step, but now she faces a different challenge in the form of a
deputy marshal by the name of Zane Sager.
Zane is there to find a killer and keep the witnesses safe and has a not so great outlook. Aurora puts it on herself to try to help lighten his outlook and get a better outlook on life. About the time she is getting thorough though things happen that reinforce his prior outlook on life.
This book is great read and I would recommend it. It is the third book in a series, but can be read alone. I received a copy to read, the review is mine.
This was a wonderful ending to a fantastic series. This made me laugh and cry. This gave an idea of how the southerners saw the northerners after the war and hopes the northerners saw the aftermath of the war. As it shows all people were to blame for what happened after the war was over. It was hard for everyone to be able to change with the times. Change is hard for all. I really liked how the Ku Klux Klan was handled at this time. That is not a time period I would have wanted to live through. I loved the characters in all of these books. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
This is the third book in a series but can be read s s a standalone. That being said you will want to read the other stories so you might as well buy the set. Great story that will pull you in fro the start.
A fantastic conclusion to a historical romance series!
I absolutely love both Aurora and Zane! They are incredibly well developed and easy to relate to. It was wonderful seeing how their personalities were presented slowly and their backgrounds came out throughout the book. This is especially true of Zane. It was fun to catch up with Selah, Levi, Joelle, and Schuyler too. I enjoyed seeing how their relationships had progressed since their respective books.
The plot of the story is great. It captured my interest and kept me focused and reading. I was fascinated to read the information given in the note at the end of the book as to how much of this book was based on historical fact.
I was so caught up in the lives of these people that when I turned the page and saw the words, “A Note to the Reader” my first thought was that it couldn’t be over yet. I would love to see the author write another series continuing the lives of all of these wonderful characters.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, through NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All of the opinions expressed are my own.
A Reckless Love gives me another reason why Beth White is becoming one of my must read authors. Though, I am sad to say goodbye to the Daughtry House series. I have adored getting to know this family in the previous books and this one does not disappoint. Aurora is probably my favorite of the sisters and it was fun reading the scenes with Zane. Such an entertaining and delightful read. I loved every single page.
A Reckless Love gets a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy clean historical romance.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Reckless Love
By
Betty White
Reckless Love by Betty White was a wonderfully written book. This is the first book I've read by this author and will not be the last.
This is also the last book in a series of three books. The series is called "Daughtry House". I didn't realize this book was a part of a series till I already started reading. I would recommend reading the books in order, since some story lines are continued in this book.
The character's are likable and relatable making the book hard to put down. Aurora is a strong woman and knows exactly what she wants. Zane is a deputy sheriff whom is there to get to witnesses and searching for a killer of his long time mentor. The book is written in a accurate vision of the time period which was right after the Civil War.
Rating - I give this book a rating of a 5 out of 5
I received this complimentary copy from Revell publisher company in return for a honest review all thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone.
A Reckless Love by Beth White - 4 stars
“How would he protect her, if she recklessly ran toward whatever she wanted? Especially if that was, unbelievably, himself?”
.
I have been reading new authors for the past months and it’s been really fun. @bethwhite is also new to me. This book is the third in the series. You can read this as a stand alone. There are many retellings of past events experienced by the two older sisters, Selah and Joelle, in the first half of the book. It was good in providing me a background story but I felt it dragged on a bit.
.
I enjoyed the second half better. Zane, a deputy Marshall is very serious with his job and his goal. He tries to stay away from Aurora. But Aurora is a very determined, gutsy and persistent young lady. Zane has no way out. They are cute together. They are alike but also very different in many ways, financially or physically.
.
Various forms of discrimination, intimidation and politics are some of the issues covered in the book as this happened after the Civil War. But it also also includes the fact that there are people with good hearts and open their homes to those in need like the Daughtry’s. It was an educational and fun read.

*Thank you #netgalley and @Revell books for the free copy. All opinions are my own*
This was a very well-written and enjoyable read. The pairing of the leads was great, the romance sweet and the setting enlightening. It has been interesting to follow this series set in such an interesting time in US history - the Reconstruction era, especially in light of the recent widespread protests against racial discrimination.
The plot revolves around such a medley of characters, criminals and crimes that it got pretty hard to keep track of who was who and who did what. Additionally, there are some plotlines that weren’t quite resolved. Imagine the validation I felt when even Ms. White acknowledges that she also struggled with the complex plot in her note at the end. So, while this novel would be okay as a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading this series in order (and as quickly as you can so you the characters are still fresh in your mind).
*Spoiler alert* The end threw me off a bit with what seemed like a hasty marriage. In a sense, it's fitting of the title, “A Reckless Love”. But you’ll already be rooting for Aurora and Zane anyway, and a shotgun (kind of) wedding does fit in with the times.
All in all, this was a great closing to a great series. It gets 4 stars from me. Many thanks to Revell and Ms. White for a complimentary copy via NetGalley. These opinions are mine.
This seems to be a timely book to read right now as our nation faces division. It was quite interesting to read about the Mason-Dixon Line. Not everyone was thrilled that slavery had been abolished and you could feel tension in the air.
Aurora and Zane are quite a pair as they try to maneuver through a relationship. I wasn’t sure who had the stronger personality as they both seemed to get on each other’s nerves. I have to say I enjoyed reading how these two could change their minds about each other at the drop of a hat. The author really does a good job of slowly allowing us to witness their emotional growth in several areas.
The story does tackle sensitive subjects like racism and the KKK. Zane has his hands full trying to protect witnesses while looking for a murderer. There is a lot of pressure on him and you can sense his need to rely on his faith to not give up. The author does not shy away from subjects that are uncomfortable but delivers a powerful account of a time period that caused many to become enemies against friends and family.
I’m sad to see the series end but am very pleased with how each book flowed gracefully into the next without missing a beat. I do recommend reading the books in order to familiarize yourself with characters that make appearances in the other books. The author’s writing is like a breath of fresh air as the stories intercept each other in an epic adventure of faith , hope and love.
I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishing. The review is my own opinion.
Don't skip the prologue.
Many readers, including myself, often skip the prologue. In this case, it should have been chapter one especially for those who are jumping into the series late. Without giving spoilers, there is crucial information the reader needs to know.
I have not read the other two books in the series. Beth White did a good job of filling in the back story so I didn't feel lost. The main characters were well developed. Spunky Aurora is a good match for the more taciturn Zane.
Set in post Civil War Mississippi, this book highlights struggles of racism and the early fight against the KKK.
While A Reckless Love can be enjoyed as a standalone, I highly recommend you read the other two novels first. I think a lot of the interactions between Aurora and her sisters, as well as Levi and Schuyler will make more sense. There are also some plot threads White finishes in this novel that will make more sense if you read the first two books.
The romance between Aurora and Zane is well-developed, although there were times it seemed Zane suddenly changed his mind without notice and I had a hard time keeping up. But otherwise, I enjoyed their interactions. The way they go back and forth with each other is not only entertaining but also telling. I think it tells the reader a lot about them and how they’re changing throughout the novel.
I also liked how White wove in Aurora’s and Zane’s backstories into the way they respond to one another. The prologue did a great job of showing the reader what drives the characters, and I was able to understand their goals.
I liked the saloon/boardinghouse conflict. It definitely brought some humor to what is otherwise a very serious novel. But the storyline I paid most attention to the conflict between the townsfolk and Zane as he tries to guard two prisoners and find a murderer.
White does a great job of wrapping up the overall plot threads from the first two novels. She made connections I wasn’t expecting. I also loved seeing characters from the past two novels again. I like the Daughtry family, and it was like revisiting old friends.
However, I have to say I did not like this book as much as the first novel in the series. That didn’t take away from my ability to enjoy A Reckless Love, though.
Overall, if you like action and romance, then you’ll enjoy this book.
(Note: I received a complimentary copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.)
This is a new author for me. I enjoyed her writing and this book. This apparently is book 3 of a series, which I have to admit, the previous books I have not read. But will certainly consider doing! I thought the book came in a timely period of our current days as it dealt with the post-war days of the Civil War and definitely relates to our current politically stressful times.
Aurora is a vivacious young woman whose path crosses with a Deputy U.S. Marshall who wears an eye patch. Their interactions are fun and enjoyable. I love how her grandmama tells her not to let Zane fall in love with her! Does that ever work?
I love how they inherit the saloon and the "employees" that come along with it. Loved it! Aurora is the youngest of the Daughtry sisters, one married, one engaged and Aurora!
There is suspense, tension, and some sweet romance. Zane definitely is drawn to Aurora! The book is very engaging and I loved reading about the historical events that took place in the deep south during this turbulent time. In was written with careful research to the post war times. It was very good! I loved the part where it was written she prayed for him, and prayed with him.
I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishing. All thoughts are my own.
A reckless love is the third book in the Daughtry House series.
Aurora Daughtry is the third of three sister and therefore a bit on the wild and reckless side. That is until she runs smack in to US Deputy Marshall Zane Sager who had been assigned to Tupulo Mississippi to try to help bring things under control in the aftermath of the civil war.
Aurora and Zane are complete opposites, yet the author manages to build their relationship without it feeling pushed. They made a really cute couple and if they were a real couple I could actually see they together.
I have not yet read the first two books in the series, but I found that even though there were references to the first to books, this book did stand quite nicely on its one.
I found a great new author.
